Very interesting little spot. One of the neatest things youll ever see. The fact that it has survived is amazing. The story behind it is pretty neat as well. Many themes are represented from biblical to the old west to local buildings. This is a free attraction however I encourage everyone to donate a couple bucks to keep this little gem preserved for years to come.
It was really cool to walk around the garden. Amazing to think about the history of who masterfully constructed the monuments. Pulling up to the house was a little strange because it is in the middle of a neighborhood. Once you are in you look around and see the craftsmanship of a man forced out of a job during the height of the Great Depression. We took our two girls and both of them were walking around in wonder. Great visit.
This place is amazing! Quietly placed in a neighborhood where people are welcome to visit anytime! A cool must see!
Awesome little day trip. Cant wait to go back in warmer weather.
We had a delightful time at the Hartman rock gardens. Fernando has done an amazing job with all of the flowers and the succulents. They add so much to the garden. It is in full glory. If I could add a photo I would! It doesn’t take a long time to visit and it’s definitely something you don’t want to miss if you are in Springfield.
Definitely a fun family place of interest and historic significance. Educational or just fun to look at what someone can make with just inspiration and hard work.We had a run in with a cactus plant so be careful not to touch the cacti near the Noahs ark rock sculpture. If you get there and think they couldnt possibly be harmful think of tiny (smaller than hair) sized spines stuck in your hand. And they hurt :-(
This was an interesting experience. Its literally someones backyard in a residential neighborhood. So, it felt a little strange just walking around their backyard. It was kind of neat though. Its clear there was a lot time and talent put into this garden. Not to mention, Hart. It deserves to been preserved and seen, so make sure to leave a donation.
A friend and I went to see the Hartman Sculture Gardens last Saturday. This was my third visit and my best visit. We talked with Fernando, the property caretaker. He was weeding the gardens despite the heat. The gardens were beautifully kept. Fernando is a great ambassador of the grounds and we enjoyed talking with him. It was completely delightful to walk around the stone sculptures of so many different genres. The sculpture garden is in a quiet neighborhood. Do yourself a favor and co.e see these sculpture gardens.
Fun little place to visit. Might smaller than you image because it is more like a well decorated house Garden. But it is very delightful to see all the work there.
Fish and Chips are so good here...even the fries taste extra good!
Nice little and interesting getaway. It transports you to another era. Luv it.
Its truly amazing what people can do when they set their mind to it.
Great eccentric stop. Definitely worth your while to get off the freeway and take a look!
A very cool place to visit. The story and the history are worth the visit. Very unassuming house with a cool attraction in the backyard.
Certainly a unique place. I found this on Atlas obscura. It was worth the trip. Some of the creations need some cars but overall it was pretty kept up.
Hartmans labor of love is a tiny treasure cove of rock structures and concrete. If youre close, swing by and spend 15 minutes admiring his handiwork, a pure example of Americana folk art.
Eclectic and in need of upkeep. Worth a visit, but wouldnt go far out of the way to do it.
It was really cool seeing all the rock creations that was done by hand.
Cute little place that is worth checking out. You can spend 30-45 minutes just checking out the great detailed work and not even realize the time has passed.
Just a wonderful exhibit of a gifted soul. Enjoyed it very much.
Found out about this attraction through Roadside America app. A rock garden made into different displays is pretty cool to look at. We were only there for 15 minutes but it is worth it if you enjoy seeing odd roadside attractions in America.
Really neat place to visit
Very disappointed, dont waste your time. Found out about this place on the internet, nothing like the pictures. The rock creations are neat, but the grounds need a lot of work.
The Hartman Rock Garden is one of the most intriguing visionary environments Ive visited and seen, an outsider art phenomenon where self-taught artists construct fascinating worlds out of concrete, metal, stone, and whatever else they can find. I highly recommend this place. This is quite small and youd see everything in an hour or less.
This place is so cool! Would live tobhave met Ben Hartman!
This is one of my favorite places to bring friends from out of town. It’s been well taken care of and is just such a gem. Be sure to get Schuler’s doughnuts after!
A little, little known gem! Mr Hartmans almost lost hobby quest created over years of his leasure time; truly a simple and complex legacy that is inspiring to anyone who comes to see.
A really cool little spot to check out.
An amazing collection of American folk art. Nice place to bring family and friends to enjoy something truly special and authentic.
This place is magical! Took so many wonderful pictures, and had a great time looking around. Already have many friends wanting to visit.
Amazing!! Must see!
Grew up around the corner and used to visit Mrs. Hartman when I was little. She allowed us to help her clean up in between visitors. We had a local story about the rock castle that only neighborhood kids knew about. They were an amazing family, and the places is and was always beautiful.
Super cool place to visit!
Nice to place to see stone folk art.
A wonderful short stop during a day trip. Very blessed to have experienced this.
I really liked the art that is on display here. This is what happens when a creative person is out of work for a while. I recommend this to anyone that is interested in art or history.
Probably the coolest thing Ive seen lately. Everywhere you turn theres a touch of creativity and history. Ive been sending everyone here to check it out!
Pretty cool place to visit. Impressive stone work.
Very cool and neat history. Perfect for a couple of 8 yr olds.
Small but very unique. I love that a place like this has been preserved.
Really quiet neighborhood that holds a sight to be seen! Enjoyed the history, art and heart put into this backyard creation.
Amazing folk art sculptures. Must see
Wonderful people take care of this. Be kind and donate if you can.
Very cool little garden off the beaten path of usual tourist spots.
Fun day trip that had been in our list for years. Its definitely an interesting piece if folk art. I wish it was better maintained, but understand why its not. Worth the trip is youre in the area.
Cute place to see rock art. Short visit.
Cool garden, wouldnt recommend going in winter like I did since theres no flowers. Its a fairly small place so not worth a long drive, but definitely worth a stop by.
Geocaching led me here. Cant believe I didnt know about this place sooner! Absolutely gorgeous intricate structures. I hope this place remains for the foreseeable future.
This is a unique and rare place, so got to give it 5 stars!!
A wonderful place that is a must see. I know my husband and I will be back. Its a very relaxing place. And the owner is respectful and will talk to you.
Impressive rock display with great detail. Much more impressive than I expected.
Ill say that it is definitely unique. Limited parking. Go in the spring or summer to see the flowers. Great craftsmanship and love in all of the sculptures.
The time and effort is amazing. The beauty is second to none.
Quaint site. Loved the castle. Various representations of historical buildings and biblical scenes. Its free and open to the public. Its on a corner lot in a residential area so not much walking.
Very cute cool little place
Really interesting place. Takes about half an hour to see everything. Young children might be bored.
The amount of work and thought that this man and family put in to building and maintaining this awesome piece of folk art is amazing.
This is one of the neatest homemade creations Ive ever seen.so much detail and care was put into making and maintaining these works of art.very cool! Also we enjoyed a scenic dive on the way back to the highway.if you enjoy quirky little spots on an otherwise boring roadtrip this place is well worth the small detour.there is a donation box for helping with the upkeep and a really sweet cat.
Amazing hidden gem in Springfield!
Cool free place to vist ..
Ive lived in Springfield on and off my whole life 59 years. I decided to check this out. Wow I was surprised. Such a wonderful little place. My friend picked up a Pamphlet that I looked at later. I now have to go back. A must see.
Cute place. Small but full of history. Great way to fill a hour of our time. Looking at the way Ben Hartman did what he loved. And for his wife to continue it after his death was a beautiful testimony of love. My kids found it fasinating and took it all in. A great addition to part of the history in Springfield.
Very educational for younger people.
What a beautiful folk art gem Springfield has buried in an unassuming neighborhood. Luckily it has been preserved and maintained for decades! Something to be admired almost one hundred years after it was created. Creative and original; one of the places that makes me proud of Springfield, Ohio.
This place is awesome. Been going here since I was a wee little wipper snapper with my grandparents.
Nice quick 30 minute stop with the kids on the way to Cincinnati. Beautiful art in a surprising place. Attention to detail was amazing.
Loved it beautiful place.
This place is amazing! Beautiful flowers, beautiful creations, beautiful place all around! If your in the Dayton area its a must see!
Amazing what this guy did, good side trip if you are in the area. I would not make this the purpose of a long drive. It is a small area in a backyard of a residential neighborhood.
So unusual, right in the middle of a subdivision. Worth the trip
Such a wonderful little garden! The story behind it is amazing, you can tell it was made with love.
Unlike anything I have ever seen. A unique hidden gem.
Beautiful little place, really quiet and well maintained. Highly recommend it
Beautiful work.of art!!! Thanks for sharing your talents with the public!!!
Really neat and affordable place to take children. Free to see but you can make a donation if you like.
Well kept piece of history!
Fabulous example of outsider art lovingly preserved. Great background story and every time you look again you see something new you missed the first time around. Not an all day experience, but well worth a stop for a half hour-an hour. A gem in a quiet neighborhood.
It was my first time .
Very nice. One of a kind. A lot of time and work went into this garden
Was a very interesting rock garden for sure. The time spent on some of the very intricate features is amazing!!
Amazing work. If you like folk art you dont want to miss this.
This is a very cool place that was once in disrepair very much and it was taken over and now lots of high school kids work there and do chores and give explanations. They accept donations its a very cool thing to see. And its definitely something that is kid friendly you should definitely check it out if you live in Springfield
Small but worth the visit!
Very interesting. Would have been awesome if all of the water features were kept functional
This is great. It is so Good what this man and later one his wife loved it
Really cool place, the work that went into it is amazing!
It was cool. Took a lot of timr and work. I was in the area so we stopped.
It was amazing what Mr. Hartman accomplished. Enjoyed the garden and all the flowers.
This was an amazing place. The detail in the work is just amazing.
Very beautiful
Amazing beauty in an unassuming neighborhood.
