Was looking fore something informative but inexpensive to do. This did not disappoint. My family of 5 cost $24 and we were there for Two Hours. The aquarium itself is Very small with two touch tanks. The outside portion has picnic groves, educational areas, and a decent walking trail. On our walk we saw small crabs, multiple different birds and a deer!! There is no food sold on the property but is a short drive from a Publix and Kroger. The whole family was very happy with our experience.
Expect and educational experience and a kind staff. I highly recommend checking their schedule and doing one the programs. We did the family field trip crabbing and had a great time. They walked us through education on different types of crabs. How to identify the crabs and interesting facts. Then we walked outside to a pier right outside the building for some crabbing. They baited the traps and directed us on how to set them. It was a great time seeing the different kids or adults catching a crab. This was a catch and release program and great for people of all ages. The aquarium is small so keep in mind that your visit should be in hopes for education as this is a research facility before an aquarium. They still had a crab touch tank and a large room of exhibits showing off the local fish.
Just called at 11:10 am on a Friday to make sure they’re accepting walk ins and get pricing, it says they’re open online. someone keeps picking up and hanging up the phone after a few rings. I’ve called at least 5 times giving some time in between.
Doesnt have a large aquarium. It has good animals though and a nature trail
Nice nature trail and great views of the skidaway river. Good stop if you are trail biking near by. No bikes on the nature trail though.
Great place! Not real big but for just $6 it was worth it.
Small aquarium but worth a visit. Three nature trail was soooooo beautiful.
Educational field trip for the local schools! Kindergartners loved learning about the sea life on their Georgia Coast. Touch tanks were an awesome experience for the kids. The actual aquarium tanks were a huge hit with the kids paired well with the i spy activity sheet identifying different characteristics of the fish on display. There is a covered pavillion where the classes ate lunches and afterwards, the kids enjoyed a little stroll on the nature trail next to the river searching for the wildlife they had just learnes about!
Loved it, its smaller but allows you to enjoy and talk to knowledgeable people. The trail was gorgeous!
The aquarium itself is pretty small compared to others, but the displays are well done. There are viewing bars my 2 year old climbed on for a close up look. The octopus and sea turtle were extremely entertaining. He also enjoyed the touch tank and now tells me all about how crabs use camouflage. The hiking trail was a highlight as well, we saw many wild birds but pack your bug spray. All in all a good place to take kids in the Savannah area.
Another great place to go with the family. Very inexpensive. After going into the aquarium section, make time to go on the nature walk. Doesnt disappoint. If going during the warmer months, the ghost crabs that line the paths are fun to watch and play with.
My family and I enjoyed the aquarium. On the day we went they were doing a look behind the scenes that was incredibly interesting. The grounds surrounding the aquarium are beautiful as are the trails nearby. Definitely recommended.
Small but nice aquarium. Beautiful walking trail out back that is free.
Great place.. good walking trails.
My grandson and me had a great time he loved all the displays and nature trails.
This was a delightful surprise and we were so glad we decided to visit! If you like tanks of fascinating fish, seahorses, turtles & lot of diverse other sea creatures, you can spend hours here! I got the biggest kick out of finding all the flounder, such masters of disguise they are, hiding in the sandy bottom! This place is great for all ages, although some of the tanks may need parents to hold their small kids so they can see in the tank. The grounds are nice, too, and you could have a picnic lunch right by the river in good weather!
Loved this place! Great place for a family especially younger children who can enjoy the indoors aquarium. I enjoyed walking the trail and reading the info on the boards there. I will return!
Today was our first visit! It was perfect for the kids (ages 3 and 1). The touch pool was their favorite of course. I appreciated the shaded areas for lunch. A few areas of the path could use some maintenance but it was easy enough to find the way. We had a great time and will definitely be back!
Small, but so much fun for my toddler. We loved the local fish at the aquarium, and the nature trail just outside.
Always a fun time! They do change the animals out and rearrange. Very nice touch tank for the children. It is small but all local animals.
This place is amazing, you can pet stingrays and they love it! The grounds are beautiful. I really enjoyed the day here.
It was very nice, they have lots of things to see
Small quick type visit. Kids liked seeing fish, the outdoor area overlooking the water and the trails. Trails not really stroller friendly. Plenty of places to stop and rest on trail.
Very small aquarium- and a very big nature trail. Perfect size for a 2 and a 5 yo- not much outside for them though. Unfortunately was on the other side of Savannah.
My baby loves to touch the live crabs and things. She has so much fun. It’s very small not much to see tho
Its fun but very small. My friend and I saw everything in less than an hour. I still recommend it, though. My daughter really enjoyed the touch tank.
A lovely aquarium best suited for preschoolers. We attended the touch tank program and the interns were very nice. It’s a small aquarium but certainly worth a trip.
It was decent. A little crowded to pay $4 each and with only cash- I hope in the future they allow debit/credit cards as payment. And such a short time but one of my children really enjoyed seeing the turtles.
Off the main tourist trails this research outpost offers a quiet exploration experience for kids and parents alike. We loved the walking trail (do the longer loop) and free print materials as much as the touch tank and exhibits. Must see for the low key nature experience.
Small facility, but very good educational info about local ocean species and hands on for children to be able to actually touch and feel some of the animals. My grandchildren loved it. Also a walking path with history of families who lived in the area with outbuildings available for touring.
Small but learned a lot. Great for a family and little kids if you want to have time to watch the fish without having to worry about crowds or crowding the tanks to obstruct others views.
The saying goes you get what you pay for. Its not a bad exhibit. My preschooler loved it. He spotted crabs and fishes. However, I wish there was a little bit more marine animals.
Cool but small, not a lot to see/do. Good for like 30 mins with children.
Really enjoyed the various tanks with local fish and critters. The nature trail and boardwalk over the marsh was nice. The history of the area was interesting. Visited with adult children for about 2 hours and we all enjoyed it.
A cute little place to take your kids! Our 3 year old really enjoyed it.
Potentially excellent. Beautiful location and trails. I support the research efforts wholeheartedly. Tanks horribly small. One turtle desperate to get thru the glass. Invest in better habitat for specimens.
This was a great little place. they have a sort of open house and let kids come in and educated them about the center and marine life. They had food trucks out front and activities for the kids too get involved and be hands-on. It was a great way to spend the day and I cant wait for next year. The people there were super friendly and helpful the entire day.
Very interesting with a great selection of local fish and descriptions ok n of the regi ok nail aquaculture. It is a far drive from m ok st anywhere.
A good way to spend a few hours the aquarium is smaller but is both educational and entertaining for kids. The touch tank is one of the more popular exhibits with sea creatures you can interact with.
This place is small compared to your typical Atlanta or Columbia place but, its pretty cool. The tanks have a lot to learn and the petting tanks are cool too. We took the nature trail and took the short route and it didnt disappoint. The 300 year old tree, the red pleated woodpecker, the little crabs crawling around on the ground like they are bugs its just a cool place. Also, we got to let a juvenile alligator. It was so quiet the woodpecker was right above us it sounds like a jackhammer on a tree and pieces of the tree falling all around us. Its was just cool. She didnt even mind we were right there didnt even pay us any attention. Go youll just love it! Check out the spiny lobster too! Hes pretty cool!
This is an awesome fish. The center itself is really great and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
I loved it but they need to make it a lot bigger. I kept wanting to see more & was disappointed when the tour was over. It was definitely fun & offered hands on tanks. Very kid friendly and not expensive.
Great place to walk your dog on the trails they have there. Also Im sure the museum is nice too but I just use the trails.
Nice LITTLE place. Cheap admission, but poor purchase experience. Ive visited a good amount of parks and natural preserve in the area, if you want to see natural stick to the parks - they have better views and are cheaper per person. If you want touch tanks this is the only ones I found in the area.
Very interesting for kids and adults. Beautiful grounds.
Small but nice, great for small children, price is good, Its cash only here, no credit/debit card machine have that in mind. There are picnic areas in the back, and a 1 mile walking trail.
Nice for the pre-K kids. Wish there were more sights to see
This is a great place to spend the day with the kids. They have several tanks of fish and animals as well as a crab petting area that our kids love. They have trails including a short and a long one along with a pier out over the marsh.
Gorgeous scenery
Has a fun little aquarium that my son really liked, they have an open water area where kids and pickup small crabs and such. The nature walk was really nice even if we only did the short loop.
The aquarium was a nice place to visit and bring the kids. Our kids (ages 11 to 16) loved the touch aquarium the most. There were horseshoe crabs, snails, and an assortment of other crabs in the touch aquarium. We also got to see the sea horses get fed. The kids enjoyed that too. The cost was reasonable, but it wasnt big. Being smaller it made for a quick visit.
Great place to take the kids on a rainy day.
The aquarium is 6$ to visit (4 students) and has a couple of handfuls of tanks. A nice trail and pier are by it. Its worth the admission but visitors need checks or cash or they can buy a pass on their phone with a credit card. A great place for kids and newcomers.
My 6 and 1 year old had a wonderful time, especially with the animals in the touch tanks. The guides here are friendly and patient with questions from little people. We’ll be back!
Lots of stuff to do, not overly large but just enough to get a good amount of animals in. They have a really nice area that you can touch different beach dwellers in.
I would like to give this aquarium more stars because its great, but it is very tiny.Take the time if you go to really enjoy the tanks and some of the sea life that is hiding in them. Also take the nature trails and go see the live oak.
I loved it! Its a great place to bring children.
This is the place to visit when in Savannah or Tybee Island. The setting is beautiful with the Wilmington River flowing by and dolphins swimming by. The aquarium and artifact displays are top NY notch
Great educational center with a beautiful mile long walking trail through the marshland. They also offer day camp activities for kids 6 and up, though my daughter didnt get to try that this year
Its small, but I love that they have easy to climb steps for kids to climb up. It didnt take long, but my 2 and 4 year old enjoyed themselves and we enjoyed the nature walk to tire them out.
My kids loved it. We had soo much fun!!
Good bike paths to ride and a nice little center to unwind and look at the fish.
Excellent trails
Really cool! Very helpful staff.
Pricing is fantastic, its a little hike from Savannah, about a 25 min car ride but the touch and feel part of the aquarium is filled w/ horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, other crabs and live conch shells which the kids loved and the walking trail is fun for the kids to walk the sea banks and some history fun for adults. Its a small aquarium but the trail is a 1/2 or full mile depending what you choose and there are some plant and insect life that the kids loved along the way.. its worth the $20 for our family of four
You have to check this place out. Small but fascinating aquarium, beautiful grounds, and a wonderful walking path.
Great docents great facility and to think its in my backyard! We should all be so proud!!!!
Beatifull small place with outdoor trail to walk in a wild nature.
The UGA Marine center is a great place to take kids. They have some wonderful little tanks full of local fish. The interns talk and educate the kids and offer interactive events like crab fishing they can participate in. Its only about $4-6 to get in. They have fish tanks, touch pools, and a pretty little walking trail as well.
Excellent place beautiful scenery very interesting display tanks inside educational materials to take away for the children very friendly staff highly recommended nice Trail Outback along the Waterway also
I had to spend 20 minutes trying to pay online with my card AT the ticket desk because you guys cant be bothered with card readers? Even the pinpoint museum had one. Even the free Savannah Wildlife Refuge had one. Why do I have to buy the online tickets while Im there?
Small but very nice. The walking trail was enjoyable.
It was fun for me and my little girls. One is 3 and one is 6. We all had a blast
It was nice just kind of small but the kids loved it.
This was an awesome experiemce for myswlf and kida. Really loved it !!!!
A quiet place off the beaten path, nice, small aquatic center to see the oceans wildlife. Nice trail to run the kids, and a large deck out on the river. Everyone should go a few times a year, just to get away from the city life.
Very fun lots of trails and olds cabins to walk through small aquarium but priced fairly
The place does great work. The area is beautiful. I wish there was more to do for little ones, but the exhibits are plenty educational.
Interesting educational facility in a beautiful coastal setting
Its a great place to learn more about the wetlands and ocean life
Was actually there for a memorial service for a brother-in-law outside by the water. It was a huge turnout & an excellent place for that. Very beautiful spot under the huge old trees. I went in the aquarium afterwards. Saw a turtle nesting. Ive been to much larger aquariums but this was a cute little place.
Nice little aquarium, good for smaller kids and toddlers. Prices low
Super fun place, lots of interesting aquatic critters and a fun touch tank. The trail is quite pleasant and the views spectacular.
Great for small children. Very well done and nice nature trails too by the river.
Small place. Does have a nature trail if you want to take a little walk. About 1 mile round trip. They only take cash or checks here. So if you go make sure you have one or thr other. They do have a couple touch tanks. If you go look for a brown brick building as there is no clear sign of which building it is as you pull in. It is worth the money.
Family day is a really great time for the kids and adults. Have been several yrs now and its great and free.
Went on a Thursday from Tybee Island. A bit of a drive but pretty easy to find via GPS. Plenty of parking. They had a small museum worth some interactive exhibits that was fun and kids would really like. I learned horseshoe crab blood has a purpose in medical research and how plastics are clogging coastal habitat. Great walking trails with beautiful scenery.
So far, this is been the prettiest part of the trip! It is educational, slow-paced with excellent information and Facilities. This should be on a must-see list for any trip to Savannah.
Attractive and interesting small aquarium on beautiful grounds. A nice air conditioned outing for small children or others who wouldnt handle a lengthier aquarium or museum type experience easily. There is a hands-on exhibit as well as the fish, seahorses and turtles to enjoy.
We evacuated from Myrtle Beach, SC to Savannah, GA due to the hurricane. We were looking for something to do with a 1, 4, and 6 year old. This was inexpensive and the boys enjoyed it. It isnt a big aquarium. But it was ok and then we walked the nature trail.
Skidaway Institute of Oceanography. Kudos on their monthly open night and open labs learning opportunities. They have a very diverse mix of ocean science disciplines and their academic staff has a good dynamic range in age that keeps them on the forefront of oceanographic research. Dont miss their Ocean Sciences day they have every year in October.
Small but nice aquarium.
Small aquarium. Well kept. Nice staff. The walking trails were outstanding.
Great place to take a stroll through the woods, unwind, and/or learn a ton!
Medium size local aquarium. Lots to learn. Not crowded, free parking, picnic area is free. View of ocean.
Great outside walking path. Nice aquarium too.
