I spent a good two hours exploring this fort. I love how Savannah has preserved much of its history. Super friendly staff. Willing to answer all of your questions. Enjoyed watching the actors drum roll in, and shoot off their musket rifles. The actors were also very informative with the history of Old Fort Jackson. They even sounded off the large Cannon, not the small ones in remembrance of Independence Day. Highly recommend if youre into history. Just make sure you bring some bug spray for your arms and legs. Those insects were biting!

The history here is able to be felt in the air. As you stand in the spot where men fought and died you can FEEL a presence there. It was so overwhelming at some points I was nearly brought to emotions. The reality of what went on there, the men who stood up for what they believed in to the point where they were willing to lay down their lives for it....its inspiring!! You will NOT be sorry for this trip!! DO IT!

A nice piece of history. Being from up north, we love going to the southern historic sites. They offer a whole new perspective that we may not have seen before. We were able to see a presentation and then a cannon being fired, just before the downpour. Good timing. The guy who did the presentation was excellent. He was entertaining, informative, and fun. I give him a lot of credit.

Sgt. Bradford is the greatest host Ive ever experienced during a tour or otherwise. He was full of history and willing to answer any questions from the guests visiting Fort James Jackson. The young lady in the gift shop was wonderful also, very pleasant and gave us additional information about how we can use our receipts at other historical locations. They actually fired the cannons and muskets, super exciting. Overall a great trip for the kids and myself!

Very well preserved and presented piece of American history. First Sergeant Bradford did an outstanding job of sharing the history of the fort. He got off 4 shots from his Enfield in under a minute, all while explaining the moves he was making, amazing! Cannon shot was equally impressive. If youre in the Savannah area and value American history, which is more important than ever to know and appreciate, you should stop here. And again, First Sergeant Bradford did an awesome job honestly detailing the history of the fort and area. Refreshing!

A great afternoon at a National Landmark. Fort Jackson was designed to protect Savannah from a sea invasion. Unfortunately Sherman came from the land side. Either way this all brick fort is is great shape to show life during the civil war. More people were hurt by nature (mainly with malaria) than by war. The staff really know their local history and YES firing off the 12 lb cannon was a real plus.

This is a really great place! The day we visited, the winds topped 40+ mph, but we still immensely enjoyed ourselves! Its right on the river, of course, and the views are fabulous from up top, as well as from the rivers edge! You may get lucky enough to see some HUGE BOATS go by! The history of the fort is very interesting and the interactive interpretative program (dont miss it!) was lots of fun. The cannons are fired several times a day, too. Its a great place for kids, as there is plenty of room for them to run around and be kids, although you would need to keep a close eye on them since there are so many nooks and crannies and they could be out of sight in a heartbeat. Ive toured a lot of forts along the GA coast and I think this one was my favorite. Note: there are restrooms inside the little cabin where you enter, as well as in the corner to the right of the fort entrance.
