Weve enjoyed staying here a couple different times over the past 7 years. Short drive down to the waterfront. Walking distance to Balboa Park and San Diego Zoo. We park for free on the streets close to the property; valet parking is available for $20/day. Small kitchens in each unit does not include an oven. Laundry available in the basement. A couple of restaurants within walking distance - none on site. A nice rooftop view of the bay and city.
Amazing staff, amazing room, amazing comfort. My new Favorite in San Diego!!
Comfortable rooms with really unique décor. Love the black-and-white tile mixed with colorful paintings and prints. I especially enjoyed the soft beds, quality linen and bath products. Having a kitchen filled with pots, pounds and glassware is a super plus.
Fantastic hotel, very nice views. The front clerk receptionist was the damper... said she was unfamiliar with the complimentary room upgrade Im accustomed to getting & I had to spend unnecessary vacation time on the phone to have things resolved (still isnt fixed). Parking is excessive. I suggest driving around the block at least once to save yourself $20 a night parking.
We loved it here. It would have gotten 5 stars if the parking situation was better. Right now, if you want to park in the parking lot, you have to pay $20 a day.
I love this historic property just across the street from Balboa Park. There were plenty of places close to the hotel to eat, shop, get coffee, have spa treatments. I was easily able to get to anywhere in the city via ride share. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They helped me book my next stay for my birthday and even planned a special in-room surprise for my birthday. I enjoyed the kitchen. It helped me continue my healthy eating habits while traveling. The robes in the room were nice to lounge in the evenings. The shower was quite spacious and plenty of room for all my skincare products.
Nice staff and hotel. My room had a weird smell but overall good place to stay.
Everything was good except there were a few complaints there was a leak in the bathroom that they need to fix, the knobs on the doors were hard to open on the balcony door but probably because it was a old building and also we felt rushed because the meeting we attended for the timeshare went late but luckily they still gave us a late check outbut the lady at the front desk was rude and we felt she wanted us to leave to get checked out the lady was trying to rush us out of the hotel and she felt happy when we finally checked out of the hotel. But besides that everything was great for when we stayed there.
Nice hotel nice location with a nice view, parking is expensive so I chose street parking. Really like how the rooms are decorated etc. Comfortable bed nice sized closet, kitchen was ok better then nothing . Would definitely recommend
Beautiful locationOlder hotelHas charmNo poolUnfortunately they try and get you to go to a time share breakfast - not classy as you check in.No daily housekeeping, which is okay if there were hooks for your towels but when you are in a two bedroom suite with 5 people you need hooks.Beds were small but comfy.Kitchen was very well appointed- even a blender. Plenty of glasses etc.Livingroom was huge with a big window.Windows opened and had a great roof top to sit and take your own meal or drink to enjoy.Hot water had an issue turned brown while we were there with no pressure- staff should of kept us abreast of what was going onEven a note under the door would of been good.Valet was fast and always available.
Professional and very friendly staff.Great cute room.
Positive: Friendly staff. Negative: The room was dirty upon entering. The cabinets had coffee spilled on them, and there were empty food packages in the cupboards. The overhead lightWouldnâ€t turn off with the fan being off, and bathroom blinds were broken and didnâ€t go down a
The inn is great and the staff was wonderful! The 3 stars is due to the local area. During our 3 days there we saw junkies doing drugs and a guy get arrested within 1-2 blocks of the inn.
Comfortable Room with good location.
Check out is at 10AM, check in at 3PM. That leaves the cleaning, sanitizing crew 5 hours to go thru and clean rooms. We arrived a little before 3PM and had to wait over an hour for our room to be ready. We were not offered to sit and wait in the lobby, I had to ask if it was OK if we did. I was waved off and allowed to wait on a hot lobby. Not sure if the air conditioner was broken or if they just didnt have one, because the news had been advising for days that we were going to go through a great wave, and so you figure theyd be prepared. Anyway, hot lobby, they dont offer water, the staff greets you with a smile but the customer service is lacking behind the smile.
Comfortable bed. Very impress with decor. But, room smells like urine.
Very nice staff and close to a lot of of attractions. Right across from Balboa Park. The rooftop patio has an awesome view.
We stayed in their 2BR deluxe unit for three days. The units are lovely — old but modern. Very clean. Only cons is there’s only one toilet and bath connecting the two rooms and the laundry is not inside the unit but in a common area. But we still had a great stay because the staff are very friendly, attentive and accommodating :) When we arrived, I saw that there’s a rainbow flag outside the building! That’s a plus!
Loved the 1 BR room with kitchenette attached . This hotel was built around the 1920s and they have kept this feel in their recent remodeling of the rooms. Loved many things about the place. This is a Wyndham resort property and they will try to sell you vacation/timeshare properties . For some this could be a good deal. I did not purchase one but would definitely stay here again. Great location, walking distance next to Balboa park and the Zoo. The basement had a speakeasy during Prohibition!Wish the hotel would turn it back into a cool bar. Also, spectacular view of San Diego and the bay on the roof with their wrap around patio.
Great place to stay. Just know its a timeshare hotel. We used our timeshare points to stay...will be back. Its a 1925 refurbished hotel with full kitchens. They tried to keep the original 1925 feel and architecture with some modern updates. The beds are extremely comfortable! You will have to pay for parking unless you want to leave your car on the city street overnight. We didnt! They no longer have the historical Inn at the Park restaurant, so youll have to leave the hotel for meals if you dont wish to cook in your unit. There are plenty of eating establishments within walking distance. There is also rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the city, Balboa Park and the bay.
The staff when we arrived was very friendly and inviting. The room was absolutely gorgeous and spacious enough for my daughter and I. Conveniently located next to Balboa Park and the best Mexican Restaurant! My daughter and I are planning our next trip already and we just got back!
First of all I’ll say, the property itself is very nice, the rooms very comfortable and well designed, and location is great. And I purposefully stayed here a second time because I enjoyed my first experience so much. BUT, I avoided getting the “welcome packet” last time because I was in a hurry. This time they stopped and ends up the welcome packet is just a scam so they can “invite” you to a breakfast to hear a sales pitch for their vacation rentals. This isn’t even a full hotel. Many of them are vacation rentals or condos. In the end, this hotel feels more like a feeder for a vacation club and I felt uncomfortable the rest of the time there. Sure the staff is friendly, the rooms are nice, but they don’t even offer daily cleaning of your room. I won’t stay here again most likely and while I wouldn’t necessary say it’s a bad place to stay at all, just be warned to expect the sales pitches. Also, strangely, since I booked through Expedia, they refused to give me a discharge receipt which I needed for work.
This property has been nicely renovated but is still an older property, older room configurations, small windows, small lobby, slow single elevator. What could have been charming was quickly spoiled when the “concierge” turned out to be a time share salesperson. After checking in, the front desk clerk directed me to the concierge for my “gift package”, five pieces of hard candy and a protein bar. This turned into a screening session to see if I qualified for their time share program. I didnt feel welcomed, just handled. Won’t go back.
... for me the best place in San Diego! We will definitely return!!! Nice and huge rooms, clean and very comfy. If they offer you a selling party, just say no and you will ne fine.We loved it :)
Nice lobby, clean and friendly staff. The only concern was the fact the air wasnt on in the middle of a heat wave.
My room was extremely comfortable. The rooms are beautiful. The hotel itself is a historic building and well restored. The only flaw was the elevator itself was so slow I often took the stairs. I was on the 4th floor. The front doors to the hotel where sometimes difficult to open. I did not see a handicapped entrance but there could have been one. A slight Challenge but by no means a problem was housekeeping. This is a timeshare that rents out rooms at a hotel and so your housekeeping is not daily. Garbage is picked up daily which was great towels were often replace or refreshed daily. Full housekeeping service was one day a week.
They tried to do a lot in amenities. Good location near balboa park. However, the building is really old and internet is broken. Must Improve it cleanlinessOverall, our family had an awful experience about this stay.1. The room is just behind the elevator and we can keep hearing noise pulling the elevator up and down at night. 2. Wall is thin. Even at 6th floor, you can hear the street noise.Complained the issues to the front desk however, they said the manager is out. Awful.3. Internet is sluggish. The internet from your phone is even faster.4. Room smells and we got some bites over the stay. Need to clean out thing when we got back home
Fantastic place to stay. I was surprised how big and nice the rooms are. The staff are very nice and helpful. Will absolutely stay here again.
A real treat all these museums old churches statues really cool
Great service great location for downtown and the zoo. Room very nice and the shower was excellent. The view on the roof was nice as well. Can’t wait to stay again!
Honestly this is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in, which surprised me because it was pretty affordable. The room was perfect in the sense that I couldnt help but admire the interior design, from the tile work in the bathroom to the curtains it seems great care was taken to make the space perfect. The bed was so cozy, the full kitchen was super handy, and everything worked. As on top of that the friendly staff and security made me feel safe and secure in this home away from home. Strangely, its the only hotel I was tempted to just stay in and enjoy versus exploring. Highly recommended.
PRO: beautiful location. Fantastic hotel. Room out of this world gorgeousCON: Watch out they will try to sell you into timeshare!. Room 407 near elevator made noises that kept us awake so ask for a room away from the elevator. No parking. Street parking or valet parking
LOVE the location. First time in San Diego and it put us in a beautiful and safe spot to begin our exploration. By electric scooter, bike or by foot, it is fun to go north to the fun Hillcrest neighborhood, to the east is the amazing Balboa Park, and then Uber it to Old Town San Diego, the pier, or any one of their incredible beaches. The staff is not as attentive as other Worldmarks but everyone else in San Diego easily make up for them. Dont forget to take in a gorgeous sunset from the rooftop patio!!
Place is amazing! Decors is 1920s so its like a great gatsby theme! Historical building and the people here are friendly and nice. Very close to downtown but not center of downtown where you cant find parking. They have valet parking and also you can find lots of parking at the Park across the street.
Basically good place, but with some serious issues. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. But getting to my room and finding gifts labeled to another family was strange, to say the least. And the room absolutely reeked. This dissipated in time, but it didnt make starting out very nice. I also dont care for the pushy salespeople. Still, it was pretty enough, and aside from drunk people partying too late, my stay was pleasant. Having the kitchen was marvelous. Do keep in mind, though, that the cookware is very low quality, and bringing that water to a boil will take forever. All this being said, I would stay again.
So very cute, clean and fancy . Loved it!
Room is gorgeous and the valet attendant was absolutely amazing and friendly to my whole family
The staff was amazing. Everyone! We were particularly impressed with the valet staff. They were courteous, quick, and genuine. Loved the overall decor, the history of the building and the rooftop. Our studio room with full kitchen was so comfortable and had a beautiful and pleasant atmosphere. Loved all of it. Would love to come back
This will be a multi day stay at this Worldmark facility and I will update & modify my review until we leave in 2 weeks (February 25 to March 9).No problems at check in. They advertised there was wine & cheese on the 7th floor from 4-5, but when we went up at 4:30, nobody was there and no wine or food...very strange to say the least.Be aware there is no curbside same level entry on Spruce St, you must schelp every thing up a series of steps and into the few carts they have. There is a rear entrance with ADA ramp, but nobody mentioned it.Parking is Valet only @ $20.00 a day (with in & put privileges), so we will look for some options. Day 3 and we have been parking on the east side of Sixth St. it may be challenge if to find an open spot mid day, but in the early evening spots seem to be available just across the street. I was concerned about leaving the car overnight, but so far, so good. San Diego ordinances requires you move the car ever 72 hours.Room is very large (bedroom & living room). Kitchen is small and they don’t expect their guests to cook much (but we do). Only a two burner cook top which will barely boil a pot of water!), microwave and full size fridge in a galley style kitchen with a 2-3 person dining room table. Cooking & prep area is limited.Bedroom is spacious & Bathroom sink area is separate from shower & toilet . Shower is good size, but way too mirrors in the shower room. Not much counter space at bathroom sink, which is in the bedroom! Closet space is generous as is the dresser.Beware of the WiFi here as it boots you off as soon as your done surfing the Internet or checking your email. On your smart phones & older iPads. You will need to check your settings each time to make sure you are connected (even if you have Auto Join on).Infrastructure: The rooms are nice with modern amenities, but they did not upgrade the windows (original single pane type & old style latches), the floor joists squeak (very obvious from the activities above us) and the plumbing needs help. The old windows allow for the airport take off noise to infiltrate the room easily (we face to the south so the airport is not too far away). Rooms on the north facing side might be somewhat quieter.Laundry: No in room washer & dryer like most other modern Worldmark facilities, but they have two washers & dryers in the basement that cost $1.50 per load. You would think for what they charge for a room or what you get for your points that they would provide them at no cost, but that is not the Wyndham style.Construction: This is a common event at almost all Worldmark facilities that we have stayed in, so it was not surprising to have it here too and just below our balcony. Workers are there from 9:30 to 4 or 5 and the saw they use is on and off during the day. Oh well, just our luck to have it close to our room! And then we see they are upgrading the WiFi in all rooms and they may need access to do some work...lucky so far we have not been disturbed by this activity.Cable TV: The number of channels available is limited, but all the basics are covered. Problem with some channels is the reception...I mean this is cable after all (I assume they are not using Dish or something similar), but several of the stations have poor quality and/or poor reception and this is a pain!
For a building that was built in the 1920s it has been very well maintained. The room we were in was very nice. I will definitely go there again.
Accommodations were excellent and the staff were great. The views, the available amenities, the local suggestions were welcome. In town for an event, will have to make a visit on a simple vacation. Even if life is never simple. Even Kirk, one of the valets, was helpful in arrival. As always, I save the final star for the next visit.
We made last minute reservations here and everything was great. We had a king studio which was large, comfortable and decorated in period but modern taste. Staff was very helpful and courteous. The building itself is an awesomely restored classic one that is lovely. The location is close enough for Uber/Lyft or walking to anywhere you’d want to go.
Wyndham/Worldmark timeshare property. Third time visiting this property in the Hillcrest Area of San Diego. Walking distance to Balboa Park and excellent restaurants! Love this place and area.
My only 2 complaints. 1) Parking is a nightmare so we had to spend 20.00 for parking through the valet service they offer. 2) the air is set to where it wont go below 67°. I have breathing issues so I keep my air on 64°, but the ceiling fan helped a bit better. The room was super clean, it was more spacious than the pictures show, the bed was comfortable, staff super friendly....all in all my 2 little complaints would NOT keep me away. I hope to get room 405 again
By far my favorite place to stay in SD.
Great location, very clean and a rooftop patio.
Awesome staff very great location with a spacious suite, what more can you ask for at a great rate. I traditionally choose big name brands but found a great gem here, walk to the zoo, walk to Balboa Park walk to Hillcrest and easy parking.
Such a beautiful historical Hollywood vibe at this resort. The front staff are on point and super helpful. Just a quick walk to downtown too.
The hotel has a great history and you can’t beat the location. We did not do the timeshare presentation, not sure what it’s like. They staff was great and they offered discounts to local restaurants and activities/museums. 2 great restaurants with in walking distance. Jimmy Carter’s mexican(hotel will give you a 10%off) and Hash Hash Agogo. The kitchen is very well stocked. 2 grocery stores within 1.5 miles. I downloaded the Entertainment coupon book, Groupon and living social for San Diego. I got a discount on everything activity/tour/museum we went to. The iride scooter tour was sun too.
What an amazing little historic hotel! I was in town and looking for a room for two nights, and I was also looking to save a little money. The hotel was not very expensive, and the room was beautiful! I had a king suite, and the bed was amazingly comfortable, the wall AC unit kept the room very cool, they had a fully stocked kitchen, and the room smelled fantastic! Also, their customer service was on the point! They were very professional, and made every effort to point out the concierge who told me they were able to get us discounted deals on a lot of the attractions. They only have valet parking, however, every single night I was able to park on the curbside next to Balboa park for free, and it was right across the street from the hotel. Just watch out for the street cleaning days!
Great location and staff.
It’s a very old building but very well kept. Valet parking so that’s not a problem. Mexican restaurant across road is very good. A great experience from a time long ago.
The room was spacious, with an enormous couch and quite usable kitchen. The location next to Balboa Park is perfect if you wish to take a walk or get on over to the museums. The only real drawback to the location is the flight path of planes landing at the airport, which generates a lot of noise early in the morning.
Nothing is worst then being pushed to try to buy a timeshare several times. When I said now. After checking I was approached from a sales person without even thinking about any timeshare. Also the song was not working correctly and shower head ready to fall off.
Service from staff was exceptional. They went out of their way to be friendly and make us comfortable. Room and hotel location were perfect for getting around. Very, very pleased
The place is awesome. Super clean. Very centrally located, the staff is amazing. I took away 1 star because parking is valet-paid, street parking is impossible, and, they do no have a swimming pool or spa.
Walking distance or a quick Uber to everywhere I want to go. Right across the street from the famous Balboa Park.
This is our second visit here. It is a quaint little boutique hotel. It has been renovated since our last stay and now has air conditioning and heat with larger rooms. We are in a two bedroom unit. The living room has a large couch which actually has two hide-a-beds. It is a Shell Vacations Time Share which is now part of Wyndham. Just say no and youll be ok, unless you have a couple of hours to kill for free stuff. Since its not a hotel, youll only get the room made up once in a one week stay but if you need something, the staff are very accommodating. There is very limited street parking so youll probably need to pay for valet parking at $20 per day .... Unless you have a handicapped decal and then its free! Its right on Balboa Park and less than 10 min. Drive to the Gas Light district.
Nice location. Nice amenities. The room is beautiful except for the smell, as soon as you enter the room, it smelled like pee being covered up. I need to spray Fabreeze and Lysol a lot to take off the smell. No self-parking, only Valet.
The staff at Inn at the Park were great! The room was super nice and very clean. The one complaint I have is that it is very easy to hear everything in other rooms during your stay. We were on the fourth floor, and presumably a family with children stayed above us. We were woken up at 5:30am both mornings to stomping and jumping around above us, enough to shake the light fixtures in our room. After 8am each morning, we were treated to loud music playing that was clearly audible through the walls. It is also easy to hear the traffic and goings-on outside. Overall the location was wonderful and we were very comfortable in our room. Would definitely recommend a stay here, with the caveat that the historic architecture lends itself to a bit of extra noise!
Staying here with my husband and toddler at this very moment, and we were having a great time until we game back today and found that our room had been cleaned. It was not cleaned yesterday. I’m all for minimizing waste and don’t need my room cleaned/sheets changed daily; however, we are leaving tomorrow morning so I’m not sure why it was done today. This would be a small complaint except that during this cleaning, it appears as though a plastic bag containing several UNUSED diapers was purged. This is particularly aggravating since we only have the 4 remaining that were on us while out today to get us through until we arrive home at 7:00 PM EST tomorrow. I’m upset that unused diapers were wasted from a financial and ecological perspective and even more upset that whoever cleaned the room thought we left out a bag of dirty diapers
Great time, great staff, placed perfectly in the city
The staff was excellent and always available which is usually not the case for me as a late night person. The grounds were beautiful, the rooftop was a great ammenity. I knew they would ask me about going to the time share thing and I did ponder it but when I declined they were polite and still helpful with concierge services. The location is amazing, the views spectacular, the hotel is beautiful and I found it quiet even next to the busy street. The only complaint I had was that the wheelchair access room, while the kitchen and bathroom were nicely done.. they forgot or didnt know that an ADA bed is low enough to transfer from the chair. However the bed was so high that I had to physically lift my mom from her chair instead of a slider board. This caused me some injury and I had to cut our trip short due to the pain I had from the constant transfers.I still hurt just thinking about it.I would still recommend highly this fantastic property
Nice place to stay
Amazing location, across the street from Balboa park and 10 minutes from the zoo. Friendly staff, beautiful room, super comfortable bed. We will be back!
It was a nice place to stay. I loved our room. Good location.
For the price that you pay, you get a spacious room with a couch that doubles as a fold out bed, kitchenette, and walk in closet! Amazing! Plus the location is great as it is walking distance to Balboa Park and a 7 minute drive to the famous San Diego Zoo!
Very convenient location to bankers hill hillcrest and park. Great remodel/reuse of old building, Rooms nicely done esp kitchenette and bathroom. Room did have odd smell however.
So beautiful and everyone so friendly
I love this hotel. The restoration was beautifully done and the rooftop deck is amazing.
Great amenities and features. Great location. Near everything but separated as to be peaceful.
Loved it! Great location, beautiful 2 bedroom room with all thats needed and friendly staff. Will return for sure!
I always love this place. The interior design is really cool, and the rooms are so comfortable. The staff always greet you and are nice. The location, next to the park, is great, especially if you have kids
Tastefully refurbished. Valet parking. $20 per 24 hours.
Great location.... Not the best neighborhood but have always felt safe. Tons of great places to see, things to do & great eats. All in walking distance
You must watch the sunset from rooftop patio!
We loved our stay at the Inn at the Park. It was convenient to so many things and otherwise just a cheap Uber ride away. The luxurious accommodations including the rooftop patio and wine and cheese at sunset were everything we needed for a quick getaway.
One of the oldest hotels in SD, the former Park Manor wold several years ago and has been nicely redone while preserving uts historic charm. Great views of Balboa Park, downtown and more.
Cute units and great customer service. Only complaint was parking. Only option is valet.
The staff were courteous and helpful, appliances were high quality but room was dated and had an unpleasant odor.
Great classic hotel
This place was amazing. Clean every day great view from the roof of Hillcrest and Balboa park
This is a charming little hotel on the edge of Balboa park. Its been there since the 1920s at least. It contains the oldest elevator in San Diego. The have great services form games and picnic baskets for a day in the park, to board games and an extensive collection of DVDs to watch in your room. They have daily activities like free popcorn or make your own Italian sodas. The staff is attentive with out being in your face all the time. The hotel is conveniently located, everything we did during a 6 day stay was within a 10 mile radius.
Good location . Easy to get to zoo. Large room with kitchen.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. It was very spacious and update. The hotel is remodeling but we didnt hear any construction noise. We did hear street traffic some our bedroom was on the end with a nice view of Balboa Park. We parked our car by Balboa Park and just walked over, there was plenty of Street parking everything was very convenient. Downtown was 10 min drive away and extraordinary desserts was a 3 min walk. Definitely would stay here again.
The property itself was stunning, I loved the room and guest service was great. The problem came with the vulture-like concierge who attempted to sell me a timeshare there, humiliating me in the process, which put sort of a shadow over the whole stay. I doubt Id be able to stay here again, beautiful as it is, without being reminded of that experience.
Excellent hotel and staff. Beautiful room. Great family vacation.
A great hotel, but staff is pushing too hard to sell you timeshare. I thought I booked a hotel room. No place to park and check in but only valet parking.
It was noisy, needs more insulation in the rooms. It was well decorated, I enjoyed the antique touches. It would be lovely for special holidays. It was close to entertainment. Great Mexican restaurant walking distance. Good access to public transportation.
Old but very nice
Stayed there through Wyndam. Beautiful building.
Stayed here briefly before I went to a wedding. I was pleasantly surprised how big the room was we stayed in. Will definitely try to stay here again sometime in the future.
