The good things about it, location location, Mission beach is super close, restaurants all around, great view, great staff, great for kids and dogs! Great hotel in San Diego. The entrance is beautiful and lush with tropical plants a Koi pond with a fantastic waterfall. This place has been around for quite a while. So dont expect shining new rooms but they are clean and well kept. Service is great and the views are amazing. It is a great place to bring kids because of all the water activities. We dont have children anymore since they are all grown up. But good to keep this in mind.

We had a great 4-night stay at the Catamaran. We had a bay-view suite with an incredible view and enjoyed playing in the bay every day with the kids! Due to COVID, there was no housekeeping, but the staff was super nice and brought us fresh towels and whatever else we needed every day (at our request). I wiped down our room with disinfecting wipes when we arrived and was happy to see that the room was SUPER clean! I dont think a speck of dirt came off on the wipes. The rooms are dated but comfortable. I would love to see them add child-proof locks to the doors, and drawers/storage space in the bathroom would be nice (for their next remodel).

This resort is amazing. I had a wonderful stay. It is located right in between the bay and the ocean. Near lots of restaurants and things to do. It is a little confusing getting in and out of the property at first but you get the hang of it.I would recommend adding more signs with night lighting and directions in and out of the resort towards mission or towards the beach. Currently your staff has to escort each individual out every time they ask which is still very nice of them.I will be coming back here for sure next time I visit. For breakfast, I recommend the carne asada steak burrito from Woodys near by.

Hotel staff welcoming and friendly. Stayed for 3 nights, requested cookware to be in the room, was not completed. First night needed maintenance to fix tub plunger to bath or 9 month old. Second day the stove was not working, only 1 of 4 rings worked, it’s probably older me and I’m 40 years, time to update. Collection of waste and utensils very slow, with Covid only disposable utensils which we needed to all reception each day for. Gardens are lovely and location is great, Parked on the street as resort parking was $27 per day. Restaurant was very good, no issue there. For the rate $$ this resort should invest in there rooms, I’m sure in the 1980’s this was a top hotel

Fantastic location and pretty grounds but the room (956) was absolutely horrible. Bathroom door wont shut, toilet wont flush, sliding door to patio wont open. And then theres the kitchenette.....the 4 burner stove is probably from 1975 and the 1 burner that works doesnt even heat all the way. The hotel provided zero plates, glasses, silverware, dish towels or cooking utensils. The full size fridge and comfortable beds were the only redeeming qualities of the room. Its in desperate need of an update and for those reasons I cannot stay here again or recommend it to anyone else.

If you want the commercial beach experience with restaurants and more action just go across the street to Mission and Pacific beaches. The resort location cannot be beat and the view from our room was SPECTACULAR. However, I dont recommended eating at the Oceana Restaurant inside the resort as the food choices were extremely limited, overpriced, and while tasty, nothing to write home about. Almost everything is closed still due to the pandemic-- no sunset luaus (even though they were up on the website), the Jacuzzi, spa, and Bahia Belle boats, arcade etc. are all unavailable atm. However, you can rent kayaks and boats to take around the bay and enjoy the lounge area. We loved kayaking! And the private beach. The room we were in was quite outdated for the price (especially the bathroom), but very spacious & comfortable. I only wish there was a little table we could actually sit & eat at or a microwave. Otherwise La Jolla is fantastic and this is a beautiful resort. The best part of the trip was exploring the sea cliffs and eating at amazing local restaurants. Enjoy your vacay!

My favorite part was the beautiful birds and chatting with the bird trainers. The grounds are impeccably kept. There is a gym available to guests, but the nice sauna and hottub require an additional daily fee. The location was great - we walked easily to the ocean, restaurants, grocery store, and amusement park. There is also a fun boat that goes across the bay (free for guests to use, bar on board). My wife and I picked the Catamaran and Oceana Coastal Kitchen to have our wedding reception and dinner last weekend. The property is beautiful. It has lush landscaping with ponds and a waterfall in the lobby. There are exotic birds, ducks, turtles, and koi fish as well. Very beautiful Polynesian style to the property. We got 2 rooms for 4 nights and paid a tad over $1500 with our travel network. Upon check-in, we were charged another $535 for resort fees and incident deposit. The $400 incident deposit was a surprise, never saw that amount stated anywhere, but it was refundable. Once we got to the room we were immediately disappointed. We paid for a room with a garden view, but received a room that had a view of the parking lot, parking structure, and the side entrance and exit to the property from the front. From the back, there was a large patio area with a view of a small grass area with a few small trees and the side of the next building and its stair case. No garden in sight, this was a lawn. The garden was in the center of the property. The room itself was clean but very old. Wallpaper had bubbles in it and was peeling in many different spots. The light in the entrance way, the light above the vanity, and the light in the bathroom all flickered very badly. To the point that my wife couldnt get ready for the wedding in there. She had sit out on the bed to get ready. The AC was a central design and took 5 hours to cool the room. There is no fan in the bathroom. Only a 1 x 1 square window you can open. Whoever did the grout for the tile floor in the bathroom was terrible. Ugly stray grout marks all over the place. The toilet was crooked and pointed towards the wall. Which made sitting on it interesting. The faucet in the bathtub was broken and literally turned in circles on the wall. Last time we got a hotel room, my wife and I got a Motel 6 room for about $55/night. It was nicer, newer, and cleaner than the room at the Catamaran for $158/night.Moving over to the second room which my father checked into before we got there. We prepaid everything for my father so he could just show ID and pickup his key. Which worked out well. Somehow, my dad ended up with a tower studio that had a full kitchenette and a 7th floor balcony view of the ocean. Needless to say I was a bit jealous considering I bought both rooms and they were supposed to be the same, and Im the groom. However, the second room still had the same flickering light issue in the vanity area and in the bathroom. My dad did not like the bed in the room. The room was also dated but didnt seem to have as many issues as the first room.Fast forwarding to the night of the wedding, we came back to the property for our reception dinner at Oceana Coastal Kitchen. We ran a little late and the restaurant was gracious enough to hold our reservation. But the food was subpar. Ribeyes were thin cut less than 1 thick, Sea Bass was overcooked and dry, Roast Chicken and sushi was ok, and the Crab Fritters were great. Service was absolutely terrible. Waiter was unattentive and missed peoples orders. I had to actually get up and walk around the restaurant to find someone to help us on multiple occasions. Bill was $736 for 17 people with 18% gratuity. We gave the waiter $750 and he brought me receipts. No change. I had to go ask for my change. The waiter tried to play it off like he meant to give it to me. But cmon. I fully intended to give it to him, but since he was gonna steal it, I gave him nothing. I already paid over $100 in gratuity anyways. For over $2250 spent for what we got, we are highly disappointed. They only good thing about this place is the location and the coffee shop. Eat at The World Famous across the street on the boardwalk. Far better food and service. Catamaran is just not worth the money!

There are several other spas within walking distance that are less than half the price for a the same massage. I’m sure it’s good here and I wouldn’t even mind paying a little bit more but just over double is just crazy. The restaurant is amazing and the food and service are superb but again the prices are very steep so maybe just 1 meal, there are so many other resteraunts nearby for a lot less! I recommend the World Famous!I don’t understand why hotels/resorts charge so much. You’d think they would be within reason of other comparable amenities nearby and I’m sure more people would just spend their hard earned money here at the resort rather than elsewhere if it was.despite this we would certainly stay here again and recommend others do as well as it is a very beautiful place and at Christmas it’s warm enough to still sit around the beach in your swim suit and at night go for evening strolls in shorts and a light sweater.

However, the rooms are definitely outdated, and an uncomfortable bed. But still that view. We didn’t have time for the spa... the fitness center was great... and the food was an 8 out of 10. And I would definitely go back here even if just to chill at the bar or eat at the restaurant. The movie on the beach was a nice touch. For the price... you are getting a fantastic view and there seems to be a lot of activities for families, but I wouldn’t consider this a place for a romantic get away. Still a solid property. Did I mention the view and the beach

We came here for our anniversary and Mary at the front desk made us an anniversary card from hand! She sent us champagne and chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite) as a gift! We got an upgraded room looking over the bay. Im so impressed with the customer service and kindness. The arcade is free, the pool is nice, they have a restaurant with moon jelly fish and a spa. But again, Mary made our vacation and anniversary the best. Thank you Mary

Let me start off my saying that the staff and the resort (jungle vibe) with the wildlife was very nice and enjoyable. With that being said, our room was just horrible. Our stay was from 6/14-6/20 and was put into room 450 of the tower with a garden view. It was not a garden view, more like a view of the parking garage. This trip was for my birthday to celebrate in a different state on the bay/beach, but it wasnt a premium experience for the the price we paid. The windows and walls were paper thin so we could constantly hear people talking or rolling their luggage at all hours of the night. The sliding door to the balcony was always getting stuck and my girlfriend couldnt even open it herself, but once I did get it open it sounded and felt like an earthquake in our room. The last night we was there the door actually can off the track and we had no choice but to sleep with the door open and hear all the people running around outside even more. The t.v. was at a weird angle too and you had to burn and be able to watch it, but that was okay because we didnt watch much t.v. on our trip luckily.Over all I was bummed out over the experience, I recommend someone in the area to stop by and walk through and check it out but would not recommend staying there. The only reason we stayed is because we had already prepaid and it was right near both bodies of water. But there are plenty of other places near by for cheaper.

The only thing we really enjoyed is wild life . The room stinks and outdated. There were spider webs everywhere, looks like no one checks housekeeping work. Not coming back .

Beautiful property. Hotel workers did a great job at keeping everything clean and sanitized. This place is very noisy and lots of people partying on their balconies. Sunday and monday were more family oriented. I will not return on a weekend with my kids but during the week absolutely. They also double charged us so it was very inconvenient.

This place exceeded my expectations, by far the best hotel Ive been to. Its so tropical here and they have a jellyfish and bird exhibit. The customer service in the breakfast dining area was amazing as well. I would definitely come back. Keep in mind you have to pay $26. to park a night. It was pretty expensive to stay here but treat yo self.

I am very disappointed in the Catamaran resort. I’ve been a loyal customer for years, staying there on vacations and going to the spa and restaurant many times. I even booked my wedding ceremony there because it was such a special place for me. The people at the front desk were very rude on my wedding day and would not agree to let me check in an hour early to my room to get dressed for the wedding and get my dress on. We booked our reception there for this June and had to cancel it because of the COVID19 outbreak. We had to cancel back in March because many people from out of town were flying in and we couldn’t ask them to do it. Catamaran forgot to invoice me for the payments and I had to ask them to send me the bill, then they sent it to the wrong email address (complete confidentiality breach) and refused to refund any of the funds we had paid toward the reception even though it would have to be canceled anyway per California social distancing and safety regulations. I am very disappointed in how rude the staff have been and their complete lack of empathy or customer care during this pandemic. It’s no longer the special place it once was to me, I will never be returning again (which is sad because we got married there). I hope they improve their customer service in the future but I will never recommend them again to any friends and family and will not forget how poorly we were treated surrounding our wedding, which should be the happiest memory of my life.

Best place to stay. It has everything. We were upgraded to a suite overlooking Bay and ocean. I would like to add that the staff are the most friendly people you could meet. Leaving tomorrow back to freezing two feet of snow in Calgary.I hope my next vacation comes soon. I will only stay at the Catamaran as everything is within walking distance. I wont be needing to rent a car. Already seen the sights of SD.Fair thee well and if forever, then forever fair thee well

Our trip here was the worst. My wife left her key in the room and asked for a new key while I was out fishing. My wife had her ID and credit card that I used to pay for the room. They would not give her a key. The manager Sondra said her credit card was not the card used which was untrue. They even threatened my wife that they were going to evict her and my kids from the room while I was still out. I can’t believe it, we visit San Diego very frequently and will not be staying here again. Save your money and stay at the Dana or Paradise point if you like service.

This place leaves me breathless, it is the staple of Mission beach San Diego. You are a short walk distance away from the beach and the scenery is to die for. The staffing is very friendly and the rooms are very comfortable. Around the area there are plenty to do I would recommend going to Better Buzz coffee it is the best in town. It is also about 15 minutes away from La Jolla if you want to see beautiful places and go out to dinner with family or friends. Around the back of the building is an entry way to the cove and private beach where you could rent out paddle boats or just get a quick tan. The weather was just that it was on average 74 to about 68 so amazing with the breeze rushing to your body. I would definitely come to this place again and again.
