Great theater. Nice location inside Balboa park
Ive seen some amazing plays at the globe. Cant wait to get back to more amazing shows.
I have shared season tickets with my dear friend Bonnie Lorden who grew up in Manhattan with fine theater! We are writing this together. The Old Globe offers a stream of the finest theatre this side of Broadway. They have four out of five hits in every single season. The artistic director is straight from Broadway and we truly feel he is a theatrical genius.
My first visit to Old Globe. A birthday present from my sweetie. We saw Hurricane Diane, very enjoyable. Friendly staff, good seating. I also appreciated the heads up that it was a 90 minute show with no intermission, very thoughtful on their part :)
This is a great venue to watch theater. We were close to the top of the seating, and still had a great view. In fact, because there were many seats available, the ushers told us we could move forward, but our view was already so good we chose to stay in our seats.
Globe outdoor stage Shakespeare Festival Romeo and Juliet. Barry Edelstein blew the doors off! Fabulous show. Really made it very accessible to a wide range audience. The staging and the interpolation of contemporary music made the script bold and alive. A must see. A wonderful way to spend a San Diego Summer Evening. Bravo!
Thus was one of the best musical productions I have seen since The Heart of Rock n Roll. So funThe music took the story from start to finish. Absolutely wonderful. Loved watching the patrons walk out with happy faces!
Another fantastic performance of Dr. Suesss How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Really enjoyed the show. Actors were top notch & make us want to return year after year. About 1 hour & 15 minutes, no intermission. Comfortable seats, easy to see stage from just about anywhere in the theatre. Light bites & drinks (including beer & wine) sold at the theatre before the show. But you have to finish prior to entering. Only water allowed inside. Parking can be tricky at Balboa park so keep that in mind. Free parking close to zoo lot, easy walk to theatre. We are fans!
We went and saw How the Grinch Stole Christmas at the Old Globe, a family tradition that started with my daughter over 19 years ago. The staff is great and its very kid friendly, we enjoy going and they have a Grinch Tree and many other decorations and things for the children to enjoy outside the theatre. If you have never seen it you definitely should, you will definitely enjoy the experience.
The Old Globe is a marvelous theater house with a long and distinguished history in Balboa Park. Opportunities are year round to see a favorite stage production. Supporting the Arts by seeing these magical performances is a win win for everyone. You gotta Go!
Always fun to come here!!! Clean fun family oriented atmosphere!!! Try walking around the whole facility, everyone that works here are friendly and really helpful.
I love the Old Globe! They bring interesting productions to San Diego in a sophisticated, but intimate environment. I used to be a subscriber, but even now, I see at least two shows there each season. Casting and directing choices are usually refreshing, so even if youve seen a show at another theater, you should see it again at the Old Globe. Parking can be challenging and the food could be better, otherwise, youre in for a treat at the Old Globe.
Saw a strong and nuanced production of August Wilsons Jitney. Excellent character portrayals and interaction. Zooms in on 1970s Black America. Very much worth seeing.
A really great place to see a play or other performance - not a bad seat in the house. Centrally located in Balboa Park with a variety of parking lots and close to El Prado which is a great place to have a snack (or dinner) before walking over to The Old Gobe.
It was absolutely wonderful. The outside area is beautiful. I cant wait to see another production.
I watched a show in every section. There are no bad seats. Parking can be challenging especially during daylight hours. I recommend arriving at least an hour before. The Prado restaurant and other eateries are within short walking distance.
Love the Old Globe. Great plays, acting, and good selection of entertainment/variety. Friendly and helpful staff. Even have a little cafe & gift shop. There was live music outside area before play. The cast came out and said hi to the theater goers afterward. Dont know if they do that all the time, but kids loved it (Tales of Despereaux). Play was excellent. Very imaginative, well done and fun for adults too.
Saw Jitney. Great play. Lots of emotion. Great mixture of Drama and Comedy. Highly recommend seeing.
Great intimate venue to watch plays. Entire staff is friendly and want you to have a great time. Use the valet parking if you cant get a space close to the theatre.
Love this venue! My extended family goes every year for Shakespeare. This year was SO good. Laughed so hard. Thank you.
Beautiful venue in the outdoor theatre. I saw Romeo and Juliet and the modern production was excellent. The costumes, acting, music (especially the pianist) were so good. It is a top notch theatre company.
What a great quaint and intimate venue that almost guarentees a great view from almost every seat. The caliber of the shows that flow from the Old Globe are proof positive why so many of their works get a nod towards Broadway! Located in the heart of Balboa park with such great sight seeing and dining options, a night at the Old Globe makes for a spectacular evening!
The Old Globe is one of my favorite theaters Ive been to. The atmosphere is great and staff tends to be super friendly. Ive seen the Grinch there, as well as two Pig Pen Theatre Co productions which were all amazing. Additionally, they host special events for people with autism that prevent shows from becoming overstimulating which is such a great way to integrate everyone in the community.
Beautifully organized tree lighting event. The people were very friendly and my kids enjoyed. Free popcorn provided.
I have been to two shows here (Time with the Conways & Red Velvet).Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here each time and would recommend to anyone looking for a good date idea. Friendly staff and very nice venue with good quality acting.
My wife and I, senior citizens and American citizens by generations, we’re seated in the balcony waiting for a performance to begin when woman and a man apparently intoxicated came in to be seated when she looked at us and said loudly “look illegal aliens “ it spoiled our evening. The staff were not concerned or apologetic.
We came to see the Grinch. This is a small intimate theater. Not a bad seat in the house. Small courtyard out front to buy snacks and coffee.
A great place to hang around and photo shoot in front of an awesome christmas tree!! I enjoyed the atmosphere, vibe, and the weather here!
Fabulous play, Hurricane Diane. Old Globe is a wonderful venue and the sun was out and shining.
Always a great time, though standing on line at Lady Carolines is a buzzkill.Seen smoother operations at school fundraisers.
Came here with my sons class and it was pretty kool to see everything behind the stage. The gentleman that gave us the tour was so knowledgeable and so nice.
Love this theater, we just saw the Jitney which is a great show
The Old Globe is a very good venue for plays, musicals, and similar performing arts. Whether you purchase single event tickets or partial/full season packages, this is the place to take in theater--from Shakespeare to contemporary productions, including some great original debuts. Even seats at the extreme sides have good sight lines. Tip: Pre-order your coffee or beverage for intermission before the show starts. The free lot at the Spreckels Organ Pavillion typically has parking spots available.
The play was interesting and we loved our seats at the Davies outdoor theatre. Bring a blanket for the evening. One of the ushers was trying to bully me but otherwise it was fine.
It isnt often I get the privilege of seeing shows at The Old Globe, but all three theaters have great sight lines for intimate performances. Almost Famous was amazing.
Not sure what is this building for but it looks cool.
Balboa parks premier theater... The Old Globe
Always a good time at the Old Globe! Familiar was awesome and Just saw the great cast of Gods of Comedy!
Great atmosphere, great seats, great play. Lovely experience!
Never been inside as of yet... but I have worked atop its roof. Nice place, Balboa Park is a favorite of mine. Thank you Jesus
Yes I loved it. Lovely venue. Easy to get to, and a great show Life After. Watch out for it. It will be on Broadway, no doubt. the music and the voices were superb, and the story was strong
Saw the play Gods of Comedy at the Old Globe tonight and it didnt disappoint. Next is As You Like It on the festival stage. Come really, walk through the park, listen to music the that organ pavilion and then a bite to eat at the Pardo. Theres no better place to be in San Diego.
Amazing place, I enjoy going to see plays here. Prices are great, they offer military, student, and under 30 discounts. If you are looking for something to do with friends or date night consider a play, well worth the money.
Beautiful small theater where you can really be absorbed into the play that you are seeing
Almost Famous is a very good new musical. The cast has excellent voices. The films story is well served by the new songs.
Never disappointing! Another amazing performance under the stars with highly professional actors. This is a beautiful, small, open air theater in the round, with excellent and friendly staff, well organized and maintained.
Excellent venue. Every seat has a great view of the stage. The sound was amazing.
Nice venue. Not too big so you can get close to the stage. Like the snack and drink options. Only negative is the restrooms are down stairs
The Old Globes theater presentations are outstanding. There are no bad seats in any of the three theaters. The plays presented are top notch, and some have moved on to Broadway or off Broadway. Wonder addition to Balboa Park.
Great outdoor theater,an indoor too.small but very nice... seating is good, an all seats have nice view. Clean .great time to experience Shakespeare outside
A wonderful place to see all the things you love to come out and enjoy!
I just saw They Promised Her The Moon. It was amazing! The Old Globe never ceases to amaze me. We’re so lucky to have this treasure here in SD. I highly recommend it. A night at the theatre is a night well spent.
The Old Globe is a classic landmark in San Diego! Fun theatre to see a show, either play or musical! I am so lucky to be able to see around 3 shows yearly. I look forward for more to come! No bad seats as the theater is a half round!
Such a lovely venue in a superb location. We were in the front row this time! But there are no bad seats. Wonderful neighborhood engagement.
This is a beautiful little theater, intimate, where every seat is a good one.
The Globe is The Globe. Always a great production, and a great place to see it. The summer series is juicy, as there is at least one Shakespeare play, often two: a tragedy and a comedy. Excellent summer evening.
It is so beautiful there. Its like Central Park but its in San Diago. It is a must see.
What an absolute treat in Balboa Park. We had a chance to get the family together from around the country and we stayed a few days in San Diego. My one daughter is at the Actors Studio in NY and I wanted to sneak in a play while we were on vacation. No one, including my other daughter who lives in San Diego had been to the theater. We caught Gods of Comedy and the show was every bit of 5 out of 5 stars. The theater itself was tucked away in a gorgeous part of the park and you thought you were visiting Sherwood Forest. The theater was fantastic, there is not a bad seat in the house and the staff was fabulous. You can not say enough good things about this theater. I wished I lived in San Diego just so I could be close to the Old Globe.
Very fun atmosphere with great classics and new.
Terrific old theater. Acoustics are really good so hearing the performance is never an issue for me.
Jitney, a period play that is touring the country. Worth a look, plus the Old Globe in Balboa Park is a Jewel in the Crown of San Diego
My comment today is about the show playing at the Globe called The Heart of Rock and Roll. This is a musical inspired by the music of Huey Lewis. It plays through the end of October and its a must see. Hueys music over the years provides the narrative of this piece. The crowd loved every minute of it. The voices and delivery of the songs are amazing. The entire company is what I would expect to see on Broadway and I hope this talented bunch get to take it there. Go see this before you cant get tickets!
We went to see They Promised Her the Moon at the little theatre in the round. It was a good show about a program for women astronauts. We had never heard about this! It was a common exclamation I heard from many people who were at this show.
Just saw Almost Famous. A beautiful production as always. You can always count on the Old Globe.
Consistently excellent productions. A jewel of San Diego.
Beautiful old style theatre!
Our cousin was in the production of Almost Famous... The show was Fantastic
I loved Almost Famous at the #Old Globe. Was so fun and cast was great
Beautiful set dressing and plays outside in the fresh San Diego air. A must do while visiting.
Nice atmosphere and great acting.
Noira was great and Almost Famous was even better. The Old Globe has reached new heights of excellence!
Perfect start to the holiday season!
This is the most amazing theatre and production company in the world! From their outdoor theatre to their main theatre, their attention to detail and artistic expression is mesmerizing! Definitely go see a production and spend an evening with them! They are magical!!!
Best place for theater in San Diego. Architecture is fun to look at and experience. They have three styles of theater and if you go to the outside one they rent blankets to you. Food is decent, you can pre-order for half time to avoid the line. I have gone on many romantic and friend dates. I love the post show discussion on certain nights with the cast. Great staple of San Diego. The actors and actresses are world class, I have been blown away by their bios. The set designs can not be touched. Love love this place. Not all plays are my style.
Grinch is a must see performance! Fabulous singing and acting.
Best experience ever! Familiar was awesome!!! The theatre is amazing! Is small but is enough! Ya have to go and see one show!
All Old Globe shows are good, but zjitney is oustanding.
What a charming picturesque place. Smallish well laid out theater with excellent acoustics. Staffed by mostly older folks, some of which seemed like they would make good characters from a play themselves.
Great venue - last nights play was intense
What a great place to see a stage play. Not a bad seat in the house
The play & performances were greatbut the seats were a little tight with NO LEG ROOM!
Great theater, not a bad seat in the house!
Great theatrical performances all year every year
