Great hike for groups or line hikers. Very easy trails with different branches for nice variety. Great views of Catalina. Elevation from 200-500ft on the path I took. Very mild inclines.

Greenery and quiet make this hike beautiful and breathtaking in more than one way. Steep incline on the trail we traveled, so beware if youre traveling with a pulling dog! I will definitely be back. At the peak height of the trail, there is a beautiful view of the ocean. Lots of lush greenery and a walkway maybe 1 wide make you feel pretty immersed.

Great hike, took the patch starting from the right side of the gates. Peaceful area with great photo worthy moments. Able to see Catalina island.

Trails in this Reserve are dirt but very well marked, and as one climbs up the trails to their highest levels, & as you descend, the views of the town below, the coastline, & the wide expanse of the Pacific Ocean are worth the moderate switchback climbs.

Great beginner trail, seeing as how it’s the beginning of spring there are plenty of wildflowers everywhere. It’s very beautiful and provides sweeping views of the ocean. I went early in the morning so the ocean breeze really helped keep me cool even with the sun shining. There are designated trails for hiking, cycling, and horse riding which is very helpful. My only complaint is the dog poop, please pick up after your pets, people!Take nothing and leave everything as you found out.

Amazing view of Catalina island. This hike takes you on a winding and narrow path in beautiful nature overlooking the ocean. Some steep inclines but nothing too hard. Not stroller friendly.

Nice place to chill out but its mainly dirt paths (so youll get dusty). Parking can be tricky but its free. You can park by the soccer fields and walk to the trails and sometimes the gate is open so you can park closer... But not sure what the rhyme or reason is for the gate being open...?

We stayed in Los Angeles for a week and our last day was hands down the highlight of our trip. We spent all day hiking the winding trails on a 10+ mile trip. The difficulties varied from *very* challenging to beginner level hikes. It was so cool to get to the highest point and see the helicopters below us!

Went looking for nature and we found it! And not where we expected... Spotted some raptors going through a courtship display in the sky above the trail, as well as a few rabbits on the trail itself, but saw a rattlesnake down by the soccer fields. Loved the Cacti Trail too. Very interesting walk for a couple of nature lovers from NZ.

Great Local hike with many small branching trails! I was a little hesitant to review this spot because its a nice little quite gem! Never really very busy and if you do run into people its usually only 2 or 3 groups. If you come on a weekday, you probably wont see anyone on the trails!

Indulging in too many chocolate chip cookies inspired me to attempt a semi-serious hike over the weekend. So I headed to Forrestal.Problem is, I found so many interesting places to stop along the route that by the time I got here it looked like rain any minute.Oh good! I have an excuse not to go very far up the trails. It didnt rain.Best part about being here: the fragrance in the air. Sage, perhaps?Whatever it was, flying insects like it, too. Buzzing everywhere. I felt something crawling up my leg, afraid to even look down to see what it was.A ladybug. Only a cute little ladybug. Whew. And when a ladybug lands on you its good luck. :DSo far, so good. A sign alerts to the presence of coyotes. I dont mind coyotes cuz theyre not spiders. I lived with em in Colorado. I lived with em in Woodland Hills (a few in my front yard almost every morning).I doubt they will bother you unless youre the size of a cat or a chihuahua. The thing that worries me about coyotes is that they sometimes appear to be too skinny.I didnt see any here this time.No rain, no coyotes or rattlesnakes in sight, no tarantula on my leg. The scary part of Forrestal is the short stretch of road just inside the entrance. Its paved, but feels like a series of unexpected speed bumps. Go slow.If you survive the rough road theres plenty of street parking near the soccer field. Then choose from a selection of trails. Some cliffs are unstable (common for this area) so heed the warning signs.Forrestal is remote, scenic, devoid of big crowds & smells really good.155 acres of rugged beauty. My photos would be so much better against a blue sky. Just as I was leaving the sun came out. : (Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love!
