This was awesome . Had a great time here for a birthday event and the ambiance was so chill. The host was really cool and very welcoming. Our axe throwing professional Damien helped out so much with everybody. We be returning for the fun and to play around the world.
I had such a wonderful throwing axes at kick axe. I had previously learned how to throw a n axe with no success at another venue at which point the instructors told me to give up as I was not successfully getting anything. I walk into kick axe with my best friend who has never done axe throwing. As soon as I told her my past history with axe throwing, she told me that today I am going to learn how to throw an axe and to never give up. She personally made it her mission to teach me and boy did she ever make me a fantastic axe throwing newbie!!! I love this establishment and hope to join a league here this spring!! They are so welcoming here. I cannot wait to throw an axe again!!!
Awesome experience! James was our instructor and he was great at teaching two rookies. The facility is brand new. Note that the bar/food is not yet available. Bar plans to open in May for their grand opening. The location is BYOB though. Will definitely be back with a larger group (each range has a max of 8).
Don’t waste your money on this place. I had a much better experience at bury the hatchet. First of all, you’re paying an hour to throw a hatchet for a few turns only to share your time with 4 other people. If I wanted to take turns I would have went bowling. Also, they pretty much force you into playing certain “games” with the other members of your hatchet throwing section. I was really just looking forward to throwing hatchets without someone directing my every move. I understand there needs to be an attendant but it was a bit of helicoptering. I will give this place 2 stars for the ambiance and asthetic. If you’re looking to drink, eat, be social and occasionally throw an axe, this is the place for you. But....if you’re looking to enjoy throwing hatchets for the sake of that, find another hatchet throwing place.
Thoroughly fun night. Get lumberjack on it? Discover the Viking roots you never had? There is something magical that happens when you throw a real axe and it sticks into a solid chunk of wood with a thunk! Will the trainer got us to comitt to the motion. Make reservations in advance for what is definitely a good night.
This was my first axe throwing experience, and this place was awesome. When I first walked in I was greeted and asked to sign the waiver. It was a Tuesday so it wasn’t busy. The place has a ski lodge outdoorsy feeling which is super cute. We were set up with Conner as our instructor and he was fantastic! He kept our evening fun! 10 out of 10 would go back and request Connor.
SUPER FUN. We came with a group of 8, and had a blast. Our coach Josh was a great referee and teacher! We played several games (4 vs. 4) and an hour and fifteen passed by so quickly! Drinks were reasonably priced. Highly recommend!
First time Axe Throwing and I can tell you this is one for the ages! You don’t want to be that person that’s scared or hesitant about this activity! It’s so much fun!!!! I went with a good friend and we had a blast.First 5-10 minutes you receive instruction and safety guidelines from an Axe Professional. We had the privilege of having SINGER! If you want to have lots of fun, cut loose responsibly, she’s your woman! Highly recommend her. You’ll get hooked, once you get the hang of it. You won’t want to stop.
Tonight I threw with Josh. This man brought such a great energy to the group. He was very supportive, taught the throwers well, and made the experience a 10/10. Such a blast. Could have thrown for hours and was so, so much fun! Thank you, Josh!!!
Not sure what the price was since it was for a birthday and was already paid for, but the drinks were definitely overpriced. I get it, they dont want people getting drunk and throwing axes, fair enough. Our helper was a ton of fun and we all had a great experience!
Had an awesome time! Daniel Mauchly helped us out and was incredible. Really friendly and helpful and honestly pretty cute. Definitely worth the visit and the very attentive help made my first time throwing axes super enjoyable! Will definitely be back!
Love this place, so much fun. Our pro was very helpful and kept us on track. A wonderful way to spend some time in a great environment.
Had such a blast with April!! She was absolutely a fantastic teacher who actually takes the time to help you axe it! My fiance and I had a blast on our date there. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
This place is sooooo cool! I’ve seen other novelty axe throwing places but this is the first I’ve seen that’s been able to marry the bar/night scene vibe with such. The instructors are hilarious and actually a joy to have around, they make learning easy for newcomers and even challenge those who have axe thrown before to “sharpen” their skills. See what I did there The drinks are reasonably priced and delicious, but pregaming before hand isn’t hard either given the location of many close bars. Be the talk of your friends and suggest this place for the next outing! 10/10
We came to Kick Axe as part of an anniversary trip to Philadelphia. This proved to be one of the best highlights of our trip. We were able to walk in and score an open throwing session. We were paired with another couple, so friendly competition came natural. Lyle was our instructor, and he did a tremendous job. He gave us pointers, encouraged us, and was an all around funny guy. My wife carried us, as she dominated with accuracy and ferocity. We won each round of games because of her. Afterward, we sat at the bar, which is surrounded by lumberjack themed decor. The bartender introduced us to a group of people playing the What Do You Meme card game. We instantly built rapport with them, and ended up playing and laughing long after the place closed (thanks for letting us stay). This is such a cool environment with fantastic people running the show. If I could make a recommendation, be sure to choose the 1.5 hour session instead of the 30 minute session. The time flies when youre having so much fun.
We were just here over the weekend and had a fantastic time! The staff were awesome and our Coach, Stella, was incredible. He really made our night so much fun! If you are looking for something different to do with a group, this is a MUST do. I know you have options out there, but this place is amazing! The atmosphere makes the whole experience even better!!!
First time axe throwing for friends birthdays and it was so much fun! Definitely coming back here again well worth it and our axe pro teacher Daniel was awesome! Couldnt ask for a better instructor!
I went to a birthday party here and it was awesome. the guy who was in charge of our axe bay was really fun. It is a cash free place though so make sure you bring a debit/credit card. you can order drinks and apps from the ipad right at your stall. the food was really good and so were the drinks!
We didn’t actually go for axe throwing, after an evening at the nearby beer garden we wanted to go somewhere else to chill. We ended up eating and playing games here until they closed up. The staff was warm, funny and friendly. The facilities were really nice and the aesthetic was comforting, a bit like celebrating fall and winter in a space. The food was good and when they ran out of the gluten free pizza crust they offered us the boneless wings for the same price as the pizza! Overall we will definitely be back for the actual axe throwing at some point, the patrons sounded like they were having a blast!
Highly recommend! We went for part of my bachelorette weekend and had so much fun. Josh did an incredible job guiding us on how to throw! He led us through multiple different games and made sure we got the most out of our time.
Axe throwing and alcohol? Actually was alot of fun and I still have all my fingers and toes! Have a great selection of beers. A few mixed drinks, but they are not that special. I am from the West Coast and did not realize what a thing axe throwing is. Will definitely go again.
My wife and I visited recently. It reminded us of the Brooklyn Kick Axe, except this place has a lounge vibe. The staff was very cool. Met a cool dude named Dakota had a great conversation with him. We were allowed to check the place out, which looked awesome. My wife and I will return here next time we are in Philadelphia. We think we can lure our hermit friend to drink and throw axes. BTW, bathrooms were very clean.
It was a great time. The staff was so friendly, conversational, informative, and helpful. There is also excellent food!
That axe throwing instructor Conner. Is the coolest guy. Highly recommend you ask for him if youre gonna go.
Far and away the best gluten free pizza Ive had in my life. I ordered the margherita pizza with the gf cauliflower crust and was blown away. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was unique and fun. I cant speak to the axe throwing experience, but I would absolutely return to find out.
Good olfashioned fun. Suitable for parties or dates. Seems like a well run place. Josh was awesome. Drinks are expensive.
Never thought I could have that much fun throwing axes! In the beginning I was terrible and behind in points lol after Josh shared his amazing techniques I came out on top and won the first game! S/O to Josh! The best host @ kick axe!!!
Had a great time here, looking forward to going back with friends. Fun atmosphere and great service. They have staff that teaches you how to throw an axe. Very professional
Our time in Kick Axe was great! We had an amazing guide who made the experience just a lot more enjoyable and was very enthusiastic. The location is very convenient, next to some good eating spots and bars. The overall atmosphere is comforting and ties well with the experience.
So much fun!!! Wasnt sure what to expect, but you are accompanied by an expert thrower the whole time who coaches you on the proper way to throw your axe. I would definitely do this again, I was in Philly for a conference and decided to do this to fill some time and will definitely find somewhere closer to home to do it again !!
By far the worst place you could ever go! Walked in with a group of 4 people paying about $153. We waited about 10 minutes which is standard for a place like this to get the throwing area setup for us. Once we get to our throwing pen our instructor tells us that the kitchen is closed. The main reason we went there was not just to throw axes but to eat and drink and have a great time. The guy at the front desk never told us that the kitchen was closed and just charged my credit card without hesitation. When I went back to the front to ask for my refund based off the fact that we were never told that the kitchen is closed and that was one of the reasons why we came in today. I was laughed and snickered at by the individual behind the counter. This is completely unacceptable behavior from a place that lost business for something so stupid and trivial.
The staff was amazing it was a great time for all the people that I went with Be warned it is No cash credit only at the bar and for food
Food there is amazing, can’t wait to go back and throw some kickaxes
Fantastic place. A must if you are in the area. I had such a great time with my colleagues. The axe pro we had was amazing as well.
Its kinda like a lounge/club with axes, awesome vibe and the instructors were so cool
Kick axe was so much fun. Our instructor was so nice. He let us create new games to play against each other and kept it so easy and relaxing. I would recommend this stop for a funny time out.
Connor was a great teacher and I would recommend anyone take lessons from my guy!!
My friends and I took advantage of the free throwing promotion recently and absolutely loved it! Its atmosphere is high energy and welcoming. Go with a group or by yourself if you just want to throw some axes and meet some people. Most of us had never done anything like this before, but our Axe-tructor, Isaac, did a fantastic job the entire time, showing us how to throw both safely and effectively, keeping us entertained, and giving us tips as we were throwing to help us. All of us were able to get a bulls-eye in no time! Overall it was a great experience for everyone, were all recommending it to our friends, and definitely plan on coming back soon for some rematches.
My instructor was awesome. He made the axe throwing process so much fun much and competitive for my group. All axe throwing lanes were private and enough room to accomdate my group of 11. The drinks were good as well. The alcohol was already pre-made but I cant complain. My group had fun and i would certainly try it again at this location.
This place is awesome. Conner was so helpful explaining how to throw an axe correctly.
Awesome axe-pert taught us how to throw axes like a pro and traded some great axe-related puns back and forth the entire time. Great fun.
Booze and axes, what could go wrong? Seriously loved the atmosphere. They dont accept cash. That was a bummer.
Absolutely a fantastic Fathers Day!! Our Axe Pro Brandon Stella was a blast and a great teacher! The food was incredible! I had the Jalapeño Margarita it was delicious too! The atmosphere was a delight!
In contrast to most of the reviews, my experience at this place wasn’t great. First of all, the place doesn’t give a feel like an axe throwing one. It’s a bar which has been converted to axe throwing arena. The lighting is very dim.Our axe throwing instructor Ginger was very loud and pushy. She constantly shouted unnecessarily and didn’t give much inputs when the axe kept falling off the target. The worst part was when I decided to quit because of some back pain, she mocked me. I left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Also this wasn’t my first axe throwing experience. I have done it once at urban axes and instructors there were much co-operative and nice. These guys need some perspective and some manners on how to talk to customers.
Stumbled upon this place and had a blast with my husband! Our axe pro, Ginger, was fantastic! She was helpful with our form and there were different games to play. The music was great! The bartender, Clint, was great too!
So much fun! Woodsy feeling atmosphere, incredible axe guide Ginger made the experience. Paired with another group, we had a throw-off that Ginger scored. Tons of fun.
Came here on a Tuesday night for a work event. I’ve been to other axe throwing places but this is the fanciest looking one. They also really channel the whole lumberjack theme with fake dead animals everywhere (at least I think they are fake). For the work part of this event, we had the area right by the front windows. The music was low enough for us to hear people presenting. There was a big TV set up for our presentation. And the food was good.Flatbread, sliders, pretzels, wings, churros with chocolate dip, and their cookies. Oh man their cookies! They were the size of two regular cookies, soft on the inside and middle and goozing with chocolate. The one item everyone wanted to take home. If they opened a cookie shop I would go to it.We had Daniel and Devon as our Axe Pros. They were friendly, informative, supportive, and really tried to fix my form when I was struggling. I would recommend them if you can request your axe pros!I would recommend doing this as a team building activity. Get people relaxed and enjoying talking about something other than work. And the food is good!
Tried this place out for the first time last night and absolutely loved it! The ambiance was beautiful, the staff was so pleasant, and the instructors were awesome. We got Wave as our instructor and he was so much fun! I would definitely recommend this place for a fun night out with friends or even just a date night!
Was told I was not allowed in to watch my friends so I sat outside by myself for 20 minutes. I then walked inside anyway seeing other people sitting with their friends and watching. I tried asking a staff member why I was told I was not allowed to go inside in the first place and never received a clear answer. It is also extremely expensive. $26 for a half hour when Bury the Hatchet costs $40 for 2 hours and offers better service.
Great facility, friendly and fun staff, quick instruction and lots of fun. What more do you want. Great experience.
Great place and Pedro was an awesome instructor. Recommend to anyone.
We tried this for the first time in Philly and it was so fun!!! Pedro was awesome!!
Friendly staff, fun activity if youre in to this sort of thing. Was very dead on the weeknight I went, but that just resulted in more attention from staff, I guess!
Took advantage of the free throw promotion with some fellow axe throwing friends from the Philly community and from out of town. We had a blast. April was our instructor/ Axepert and we had a great time. She was a phenomenal coach and our group loved her. The new space is great, very easily accessible, and I love the decorations. Cant wait to go back when the fog machine for the bull is working!
Such a nice first experience. Josh was great!
Great time; a lot of fun. Damien was an excellent Axe Pro/Instuctor
Conner took me from 0-21, real quick !
Great place to kick it with your friends and release some anger at the same time! Highly recommended!
Don’t get the mixed drinks. Nasty. Pre-bottled mixes and danky tap water.
Josh was a great instructor and made axe throwing an experience to remember!
Great venue with an amazing mountain lodge atmosphere, one second your walking down market street and the next your in a rustic mountain lodge. Amazing staff!! If you in philly and looking for a place to relax and grab a bite or your looking for a place to throw some axes with friends this is the spot for you. 100% reccomend!
Ginger was the BEST! Had such a great time. Awesome decor, attentive waitstaff and Ginger made our night so fun with her enthusiasm and humor!
It is a great experience and a lot of fun. Thank you for your really friendly and fast service!
The range is not nearly long enough. Other ranges are way longer. Axe instructor Ginger was great. But the range is tragically short.
Didnt axe throw but it has potential.
Very fun, and April was a fantastic host! I need lots of practice so I will definitely come back
Amazing! Brandon Stella made our visit wonderful!!
Such a great time. Drinks are a little pricey but you are paying for an experience
Fun experience. Staff was great!
Great coaching, fun games, good beer. Despite upsetting the girlfriend by winning...I had a blast!
Ginger was great! We had a blast. Clint was great at the bar too.
Im writing review minutes after leaving this location. We arove a few minutes late as a party of 2 and were added to a larger group of 5. We sat there and watched the other 5 go and awaited our turn, only for the instructor to keep looking at us and then his eyes darted away as he instructed the other group of 5 to continue taking turns. I wave to get his attention, he looks away, my friend waved to get their attention, he looks away. We wave to get his a attention a few more times only to be ignored. It was obvious he was intentionally ignoring us so we just went to the front and requested a refund. I dont know why he would ignore us but we do happen to be black. Anyhow, this absolutely ruined our date night and we wont be back.
Great time & very fun. Staff was friendly
Had the most fun ever. Thanks you very much staff.
Great food. Stella was a very fun coach. Well be back
Its loads of fun and excellent service
The drinks and food were not good. They should have made byob. 10 bucks for a pre mixed (in a snack bar bottle) drink. 35 buck to throw axe at wall for an hour. Bad bar food. I see why when I walk by no one at the bar or tables. Will not return. Good luck with that 10g a month rent. Full bar a must in olde city. ️
My boyfriend and I went here on a date and had a blast! When waiting to throw, the decor is so cute (and has instagram worthy & punny lights to take pictures of/with) the bartenders were very helpful in picking the perfect drink from their unique collection of beers not to mention they have great games (what do you meme, scrabble, Jenga etc) to keep you and your group entertained. When we went back to throw, our axe pro (Dave- I believe) was very professional yet personable. They have lumberjack props that you can put on and have you play games against other people in your group. Overall, it was a GREAT time and place and I 100% recommend it to anyone looking to have a good time with friends/co workers. We will definitely be back!
Great place hang out and eat
Gay pride Philly parade-kids and I had a great time
The fact that alcohol + axe throwing is allowed is unreal
This place is like no other ive ever been to.. is a decorative and luxurable scenes of food, drinks, dining and lounging also a special activity area of throwing axes toward a bulleyes target..it is insanely interesting..lol
Lance, our axe pro, was awesome !!
