World War 2 memorial with representation of all states and a few countries. Beautiful fountains in between the Washington Memorial and Lincoln Monument. Several quotes engraved into walls about the veterans of this war and a wall of stars honoring those that were lost. Definitely stop here if you’re visiting either the Washington or Lincoln structures on either side. Just enough light at nighttime to see all parts of the memorial and enough darkness surrounding to catch both memorials on either side from the WW2 monument.
Definitely a place full of history and symbolism. The 3-D murals leading up to the memorial each tell a different story. The two sides of the memorial are identical but honor both Pacific and Atlantic regions. Each side has circle of doves carrying a laurel wreath to symbolize the alliance. Also each side has individual wreaths for each member of the alliance. A fresh wreath stands in the center to honor lost soldiers. I guess it’s a daily thing?
This is a very nice and tranquil memorial. Youll see people here with their feet wading in the water, resting having lunch, or just enjoying the scenery. The fountains are so remarkable. Also make sure that you walk the entire memorial. Its really nice to get photos of the bronze eagles. You can also get very nice pictures of the Washington monument. At certain times of the day the best photos are taken in front of the big reflection pool.
Very powerful memorial; especially The Price of Freedom section. The fountains are beautiful. Though you are not allowed to walk or play in the water, you & your family are allowed to sit down and dip your feet into the water. It really feels great on a hot August day. Definitely spend some time here, talk to one of the park rangers, read the quotes, find your state or territory.
Came across it by luck, it is impressive. Made me think of my old history class allies vs axis. How the world truly was divided. The Sculpture is done really well.
If you appreciate architecture and perhaps one of the best masters at designing it (debatable). Check out one of his smallest residential designs.
Amazing history here. Well worth the visit. Has the names of all 50 states. A must see in D.C.
Its a piece of history and Architecture that should be seen and experienced if you are in the DC Area.It wasnt crowded like my 1st visit in 2017. Happened to see this on 28th Nov during the Covid situation. Everyone were using masks and were respectful to each other.A must visit place along with the lincoln memorial, washington memorial, world war memorial And the capitol bldg.If you are an entusiast, do visit it at Night as well. The view of the washington monument and the capitol bldg in the backdrop at night is a sight to remember. I did not have my phone on me at night to capture that brilliant view.
I love this Memorial. If you let yourself really be immersed in why it was built and who it was built for its really meaningful. Not to mention beautifully designed. Its nice to look at the Atlantic and Pacific statues that hang in each portion of the monument. There is even inlay in the marble in the ground. Well done and beautifully kept.
Its a really well done monument, sitting between the Lincoln and Washington memorials. This is in no way a comment about the memorial itself, just an fyi of you plan to visit...we went in the start of the fall and the memorial is adjacent to the reflection pool, I believe this may have been breeding season for gnats because there were plenty out there. That is not a reason to not visit the memorial; however, just be prepared
I love the view of this monument. There is a tourists guide that will tell you the stories about this war so you can learn a lot about it.
A true memorial to the World War II servicemen and women. This was in honor to the Greatest Generation, its fountain is breathtaking, and the matching pillars and collumns are astounding. We spent some time here admiring the details of the whole Memorial. When you see it in person you will see why pictures cant do it justice.
This memorial is amazing. The architecture is beautiful and the fountain is spectacular. The park around it is a wonderful place to walk in. The scene I saw when I went there was striking. There were kids playing an swimming in the fountain and adults basking in the beauty of the memorial.
Quite impressive, a monumental memorial for all that fought during WWII. Soldiers from all around the world and all over the states too. It’s a beautifully manicured and well tended too property. One doesn’t get the magnitude of how big WWII was until you see all of the dedications and honorable mentions. It looks like a concrete park in the middle of the mall. I think if I had gone with my grand-dad or another veteran or a historian, I could have had my own tour guide, more than the bit I learned during school at least.
I visited at night with my son as he recommended it this way. Hes been to it in the day and night and prefers it at night. It was beautiful
This memorial is so beautiful! The fountains lit up at night along with views stunning view of the mall at night are a must see!
Went 1st time is Beautiful, like the place were some spider webs if they clean, is great place to visit
Beautiful memorial with great fountains and sculpture. Well worth a visit especially at night. Easy walk to the Lincoln Memorial.
Impressive!! We were here close to sunset on a Wednesday night. There werent very many people around and the place was gorgeous!
You must visit this place if youre in Washington DC.Its just beautiful.
On 11/11/20, Veterans Day, I went to the WW2 DC memorial to pay my respects on the 75th anniversary of 1945. One of my relatives fought his way from France to Germany in Operation Lumberjack. We will always remember the brave heroes who brought conclusion to that terrible war.
Relaxing, informative, beautiful. The children enjoyed it as well
Tremendous experience. It commands respect and you cannot but help to remove your hat and honor the great americans who sacrificed everything to keep the world free.4 stars because maybe 15% of the lights are burned out and i spent most of my time there cleaning up the litter as people were just throwing bottles and masks everywhere.
I would say its more superb at night, definitely safe too. Historic site
A Great way to honor Our World War Veterans for each state. It was special to stand next to our state. A great way to reflect and honor our war heroes from home and others.
I knew this memorial was here, but I didnt know anything about it. It was amazing to walk around and read all of the inscriptions and see the beautiful structures. It was very moving to see and absolutely worth the time to visit.
What a truly amazing memorial. I have now visited this memorial twice, and I saw things I either dont remember, or didnt notice the first time I was here. For anyone visiting D.C.m not visiting this memorial would be a disservice to the members of our military involved in WWII, our military in general, and to yourself, for missing such an amazing memorial to the men and women who keep our country free!
Spectacular! Very special to see. Easy to find parking and not a far walk! January was a great time to visit with the weather being 60. Perfect for a sweater. Not over populated with tourist at this time of year. Highly recommend visiting!
Beautiful monument that shows all of the countries that participated during WWII on the Americas. Shows the Pacific and Atlantic sides. The Fountains and the Pool around it is amazing. If you ever get bored, look forward to the Washington memorial or look back for the reflecting pool and the Lincoln memorial. Many movies have been shot there so its good for photos as well. Everywhere around this memorial has a dedication to something very important in U.S history. After all that exploration, there are also nearby food places which is very convenient.
It right in the heart of D.C. The water fall is amazing. They have benches to sit, you gonna need one idea a lot of walking, there are people from all walks of like. It a perfect place for a family outing.
Great place to reflect and thankful for the freedom they sacrificed. Place is clean and everyone is following social distancing and mask.
This is such a beautiful memorial. I love that you can dip your feet in the fountain as memorial to the soldiers who celebrated the end of the war by dancing in fountains. It just brings that extra interactive and meaningful element. It allows the guest to immerse a bit more and it makes the monument more interesting and welcoming. Smart design. Its also beautifully sculpted with the rest of the design. A must see if you are in DC!
An unusual open air memorial with water features. Commemorates the states and territories that supported the war effort and the theaters and some of the major battles fought.
Awesome & peaceful place of reflection to honor those who fought in WW2 for the freedom we enjoy today!
Amazing space to sit and contemplate how privileged we are to have and enjoy the freedom that others have fought and died for. So many have given up everything!Picnic, walk and cultural awareness time spent.
The entire area is beautiful. Its very nice to see the history of America. I did do the golf cart tourvit was 80.00 andcwe gave the guy a 20.00,he was very informative.
Grandiose is the best word to describe this amazing DC site. Definitely not to miss. It’s right at the end of the reflecting pool directly opposite of the Lincoln Memorial. It is a massive monument with pillars honoring each state and territory the soldiers came from.Be sure to not to miss the wall of stars. There are over 4000 good stars each representing 100 servicemen who gave up their lives in the war. Truly awe inspiring.Don’t walk in the water.
This place you could feel. It was so beautiful and such a great tribute to those who served in that war.
Wow unforgettable moment my son wants to do swimming and he did
Super cool! Note: A lot of people allow their kids to play in the water. It is not allowed and you will be warned by the police.
Incredible place. We were there at sunset and it was beautiful. We had walked quite a lot, so sitting and resting our feet in the water was a welcome respite. My daughter loved it so much that she bought a lego-type building set of it at the Smithsonian.
Not just this memorial but D.C. is a place everyone should see. There is so much history a d just a sense of patriotism.
This place is really neat. The fountain is breathtaking and I loved the historical quotes from various events shown on the walls of the memorial. Just seeing them took me back to days of hearing about them from elders and learning about that in history class. If you want to know what the great country is about, visit all of the memorial and museums in DC. It is a history lesson in itself.
Every state and protectorate is represented. Beautifully somber and powerful crashing water falls below distant views of the lincoln memorial.
One of the must visit monuments of DC. A splendid iconic monument. SO well planned and executed. Great tribute to the people who sacrificed their life for what we have today. Although the place makes us sad thinking of the sacrifices made by 16million people it equally is an honor remembering their lives and what did for the country.I have been here multiple times and never get bored of it. Truly peaceful and serene. The history is written on the wall and the pillars represent each state.
The WWII memorial is one of the coolest places in DC. Awesome tribute to our greatest generation!
The Memorial was lovely. The whole mall was beautiful, and clean. We were surprised to see organized sports going on in the open areas, but rather than take away from the majesty of it all, it reinforced that it is the peoples park, and added a liveliness to the solemnity of the Memorials. Balance. Abe Lincolns Memorial was my favorite.
Absolutely loved visiting the world war II memorial! You can visit the Lincoln memorial and a few others right there in the same park! Electric scooter and bike rentals available where ever you see one sitting you just need to download an app and get around easily to see multiple monuments! The World War 2 monument was amazing and very dear to my heart as my grandfather served in WWII and it really was magnificent! Fountains every where! Worth going to see for sure!
Beautiful memorial for those who proudly served our country.
They were still building it the last time we i was here, very HAPPY to experience it for the first time with my 7 year old Grandson & extremely Pleased & in AWE, seeing it at night!!! MAGICAL
Always beautiful to visit. Goosebumps!!
Love the tribute for those whos service we cannot repay.
It is my opinion that the World War || Memorial is undermined by some of the other popular structures in Washington DC. To stand among heroes and realize the mammoth efforts that over 400k Americans made to make this country what it is and give the US and the world its gift of freedom needs to be highlighted. Visit the memorial and spend some time here. The kids found this experience both educational and emotional.
A wonderful place to reflect on the incredible sacrifices made for freedom. Highly recommend.
This monument continues to grow on you and a great tribute to our WWII soldiers!
I love my country and this place was just beautiful and was a honor to be where my president sits. Si many great things to see and they font cost anything. Its s must see for anyone
The World War II Memorial is a memorial of national significance dedicated to Americans who served in the armed forces and as civilians during World War II. WWII was tough time in America. Thankfully, we ended the mess Germany made in Europe. Without the brave men and women of the United States, we could be living in a Germany ran world. This memorial was impressive and it was hard to take everything in. I will be back again to visit this memorial and just breath. Im thankful that I live in the United States of America!
Very impressive and awe inspiring. I sometimes despair if we, as a country, and as a world, could pull together like this again.
A stunning piece of architecture that recognizes a stunning time. Filled with names and quotes to remember those that served, this is a beautiful place to reflect and take a quite stroll to realize how fortunate we are to live in a world like this today. This is must stop. Pro tip: while day time is a great way to see this area, the evening is equally as stunning so if you can time a sunset then you are there at primetime.
This monument includes a place to cool off your feet (please no walking in the water). Theres a tribute to each state and some really good quotes along the walls including some great quotes highlighting the important role of woman. The star wall gives important perspective on how many people died. Just behind the reflection pond near the Lincoln memorial. Dont skip it....
Impressive tribute to so many who sacrificed so much to fight evil and protect freedom for the world. Thank you all who served
Amazing memorial to see, and a must on anyone’s list visiting D.C. It’s beautiful in the day or night, and was very educational with all the historic information provided on site. The sad part was in the hot summer days, people were soaking there feet in the water. As a Veteran I found it very disrespectful. The Park Police said they can not control that.
I spent here one of the best moments of my life. Absolutely amazing to run around here at night.
This place is amazing!! The Memorial is huge with lots to look at. My favorite part about the Memorial were the golden stars within the park. There is a fountain in the middle to the memorial. Each State has its own column so go find your state! You can walk to the Washington Memorial and the Congressional Gardens from here. I dont believe there is a gift shop but you can get your National Park Passport stamped at the Washington Memorial gift shop. Its a must to see while in DC!
Beautiful, each column represents a state / territory. The two towers represent the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.larger in person
Clean and well kept memorial, some great historical quotes from well respected people. Absolutely Beautiful fountain and relaxing area
One of my familys favorites. Day or night, the fountains are beautiful and the sound of the numerous jets of water is soothing. After a hot day of touring the monuments, its nice to sit and soak your feet in the cool water. And even though theyre not supposed to be, its fun to watch the kids further in the pool, splashing and playing.
Well maintained. great photo ops
Absolutely fantastic place to visit and pay respects. Great architecture and lines of symmetry for photographs.
A memorial honoring the young men who fought and died on all fronts of World War Two
Excellent place to learn history. Please look Pictures for amenities information
A perfect example of a memorial acting as a public space! The pillars represent each state in the U.S., the water works are lovely and the detailing and inscriptions pay respect to the memorial. Would definitely recommend to see this.
Simply beautiful!! It is a must go if you are in DC as a tourist! Be prepared to be sunburned if you go on a sunny day.
There are alot of hidden messages here. Try to find Killroy wS here.
Beautiful! Very well maintained and not very many people. Made for a good experience in mid September.
It is an interesting place to visit as you walk around Washington. The weather was great on the day we visited we had walked a lot so we enjoyed sitting outdoors in the sun next to the water for a short break in a vibrant atmosphere. Then we toured the place, there are very nice quotes engraved all over, that are good reminders of the events they represent.
I enjoyed every second I spent there.
There are 4,048 Gold Stars here. Each Gold Star represents 1,000 heroes that did not come home. This is hallowed ground, a place of honor. The reflecting pools are there for us to ponder the sacrifices made to crush pure evil in Europe and to defeat Japan after their sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. Please conduct yourself in this area with dignity to honor the dead of the Greatest Generation that saved the world.
Beautiful tribute to WWII.
Absolutely beautiful and a total respect to the fallen soldiers I love this memorial!
Beautiful! Each State is represented...great place to go to pray for the nation.
Beautiful memorial dedicated to the American soldiers who served in WW2. Theres a pillar for every US state that sent its men for the war. Its an open area with fountains and flags and beautiful structures all around.
A place filled with a sad history of bravery and valor, yet so beautiful and refreshing, surrounded by lush green gardens and happy families. Its a garden like area where you can walk, jog, study history and architecture and be thankful to thousands if soldiers who sacrificed their todays for your tomorrows. Architecture, water fountains and lightening is super creative. The magnificent sculpture of Abraham Lincoln in the garden, stands with all of its glory. A must go place for all tourists visiting Washington DC. I liked this place so much that I went there twice, the same day:D
It was really cool and calming. The water was great for the hot weather. Shaded sidewalk to Lincoln memorial. The squirrels even get close enough to touch. Lol
Honor... respect... gratitude…this memorial is dedicated to Americans who served in the armed forces and as civilians during World War IIit is between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. The memorial consists of 56 granite pillars. Each pillar has the name of one of the 48 U.S. states as of 1945 and USA territories. there is a water fountain in the middle of the memorial which makes this really beautiful. you can even put your feet in it on a sizzling summer day and relax. everyone was taking photos of themselves in front of the state they belong. it was cool. There are 2 arches on each sides name Atlantic and Pacific representing victory with four eagles. There are seals of world war memorial on the floor.there is a wall just by its name The Freedom Wall’, with a view of the Reflecting Pool and Lincoln Memorial behind it. The wall has 4,048 gold stars, and its written there, each representing 100 Americans who died in the war. In front of the wall lies the message Here we mark the price of freedom. One must visit this when you are in DC.
This complex are good for public spaces, photography, strolling with friends or loved ones. Good architecture!
So big! I felt so small there, loads of respect for all the men and women who fought for all of us to live in this AMAZING country!!!
Wonderful memorial to brave men and women....very busy as it was a warm sunny day....will go back when its quieter.
So beautiful! I liked that you could sit at the edge of the water and put your feet in the water.
One of my favorite monuments to take a minute to sit and reflect. Also great spot to watch the sunset or soak your feet after a long day of walking the sights.
Awesome experience! Photo was taken at sunset.
I wish people had more respect and would keep their kids out of the pool its not a play area.
Beautiful memorial between the reflection pond and the Washington Monument.
Another must see! Find the column of your home state. Such an honor and incredible tribute to all of the men and women who sacrificed so much! Unfortunately it was too early in the season when we visited to be able to experience all of the water features within the monument. I would definitely recommend early April As a time to visit so that you are able to experience not only this memorial but all of the others throughout the city they have water features. So much incredible architecture with all of the monuments.
So beautiful. I cried.i took my dad, he cried too. Very touching.
