Since the museum moved to this location there has been one fabulous exhibit after another. The current exhibit, Woven Interiors, has textiles from early medieval Egypt dating back to the fourth and fifth centuries. Most if the textiles are glass framed so you can go close to study each detail. The basement gallery for the permanent collection is currently exhibiting tapestry-woven textiles from around the world. One of the most beautiful and vibrant exhibits Ive seen there. Just a couple of blocks from the Foggy Bottom metro and a short walk from the Renwick, this wonderful museum shouldnt be missed.
A fascinating and unusual combination of historical information about Washington DC and collections of textiles from around the planet. Well worth your time, especially if you take a guided introductory tour - the one I was on was led by an excellent and very knowledgeable individual. With regular events and projects covering wide variety of topics, I am certainly that Ill be returning to this museum regularly!
Great open museum at George Washington University. World class collection of textiles and Washington history. Right near the Foggy Bottom metro or easy bus access from Pennsylvania Ave. Sign up for their email list or follow them on social media to get information about lectures, curator talks and tours, and exhibit openings. A wonderful community resource.
The George Washington University Museum is one of my favorite to visit in DC. Ive seen the Kilims of Anatolia exhibit, Norman Rockwell exhibit, the Textile Museum, and the Albert H. Small collection. Each of them have been outstanding. On average, I usually spend about 1-2 hours in each exhibit.
Absolutely great school on a very small campus.
Amazing experience! Thanks for the tour, hot tea and free coat check!
While the concept is interesting in theory, in execution its quite lacking. As some reviews before mine have noted, the frequent rotation of exhibits makes it hard for the significance to really register with visitors. In fact, the cultural aspect of textiles isnt something you really want to be rotating that much to begin with as its a niche field that few people know much about. The presentation and layout of certain exhibits also arent very engaging. The building and staff are nice enough though.
The textile museum rotates its exhibition every few months. I feel the selection is too varied for visitors to get a good understanding of what theyre trying to show. Itll be much better if the exhibits can be narrowed down to a particular region. Theres a nice little gift shop on the ground floor selling cute items.
Collections of rugs & clothing from around the world, dating from 3000 BC to the present.
Tiny museum, well curated collection of Hamilton related items from their permanent collection. Its real collection is textiles, which are currently Anatolian weaving, which is amazing. Nice campus to walk about as well
What a gem! Earrings, umbrellas, cards, oh my...have my eye on a hand printed table cloth
Calm and vibrant. Visit this peaceful museum to get inspired.
Beautiful small museum, they had a very interesting exhibit about using industrial leftovers to create clothes and bags. Well presented, not crowded, the permanent exhibition was also very well presented. 45 was enough for us to see everything.
Its awesome museum. One of the few in the world. Keep an eye for the programs. They are the best.
Lots of old pictures and lots to read. Not crowded and its free. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.
Friendly people nice environment, art exhibit had good presentation. Comfortable surroundings. My second visit.
The textile museum was very well done. I was pleasantly surprised. Well worth visiting.
Precious art gallery... A very nice Asian art collection... A nice place to spend a couple of hours
Great school and friendly. Enjoyed the tour.
The Textile Museum possesses a fascinatingly diverse collection that is approachable to someone with no familiarity with textiles. They regularly rotate exhibits and feature special events, so be sure to pick up a brochure to keep track of them! Gift shop also has great selection, though many items are steeply priced.
I spent a good afternoon at the textile library immersed in books. The librarian was very helpful and knowledgeable on the subject.
Please help me im located at (24.434769, 45.023488)

Exibit is pretty small. Not enough description to read
They have a nice, small collection.
Its a beautiful free museum to hang around its small might not take more than 30 min and the exibita constantly changes from 4 to 6 months
Interesting exhibits on the history of various textiles and textiles from around the world, especially Central and South Asia!
Great collections. Great exhibitions. Great programs.

I have an old piece of texture .the name of this texture art is (TERMeh) I would like to show it to museum
The museum shop is beautiful
Unusual, but cool combo of textile arts and connected exhibits on DC history.
Hard to find, doesnt open until almost mid day, great gift shop, but the collection has just lousy explanations to go with the work on display. Unless you know all about what you are viewing you will not be enlightened by what you read.
These is an educative museum good for tourists who are willing to pay a visit
Lovely place
