I’ve been living and working in Tucson for a few years now and I try often to visit various tourist spots around town. I thought I would give this place a shot. In a nut shell it really wasn’t for me. First of all it was quite pricey just to enter the park and I know that they use that fee to maintain the area and that’s great. The scenery was excellent as usual with the cacti, mountains etc. What I didn’t really care for was the business on the Saturday. There were so many cars that you really had no chance of pulling over and parking at the various lookout locations. Each spot seemed to have only two maybe three maximum parking spots so they were constantly occupied. If you can brave the 8 mile loop by walking then you got it made but by car it’s very difficult when it’s busy. My favourite spot was the Javelina rocks look out point. That was the highlight for me otherwise there really wasn’t anything else special on the drive. It is a great place for a work out though if you’re a runner or a cyclist. I don’t think I will return but I do recommend it at least once. ️
Visitor center closed due to Covid, but maps available, and restrooms open. Park entrance registration on honor system; loop drive pleasant enough, with many hiking opportunities. Pricey entrance fee for a public area, (good for 7 days). Depending on your purpose, consider the Desert Museum -- less expensive, more varied photo opportunities.
This is the eastern side of Saguaro National Park. Its the smaller half of the park which is fine because we were tired from hiking the Tuscon Gem and Mineral show. They have one main road that leads to a scenic drive through the Rincon Mountains and give a different scenery to the iconic saguaro cacti. Come especially around sunset because the sky seems to be lit with beautiful colors.
Saguaro National Park is a true gem. It’s not very large, so the scenic loop, a short hike, and a stop at the visitor center can be done in a few hours. One of the most beautiful places in Arizona.
Beautiful and awe inspiring. Worth the time to slow down and see everything!!
Very nice! The volunteers very nice and knowledgeable. The video presentation was very informative. We enjoyed Saguaro National Park.
So many cactus and many varieties. Very well maintained park. A must see park.
Very informative. They have displays and a great gift shop. Take the loop road to drive around a portion of the park.
Saguaro National Park is breathtakingly beautiful. The wonderful undisturbed tranquility and native plants are a national treasure. Take time to walk the nature trails and learn about the ecosystem.
This is the quintessential southwest desert landscape. Of course the Saguaro steal the show, all sizes and many with great character, but so much other cacti here. Dozens of trails through the park hundreds of choices for hikes of all lengths. The visitors center is small but is very nice with the informational museum and park rangers there to help and a souvenir shop.
A great place for a ranger talk, but beware the parking lot is pretty small so if its a busy day you will have a hard time parking. Inside is also on the small side with a gift shop and small museum. There is a good educational video and a few exhibits where you can learn more about the saguaro and the desert where they live. You can also pickup your Junior ranger books here, be aware there are a few pages that need to be done at the visitor center! A nice place for information and a good starting place for your visit to Saguaro National Park.
Saguaro National Park is so beautiful its definitely worth the trip to see it
Very friendly staff. Clean bathrooms. Trails easy to follow and can take strollers with large wheels on the path. Good parking and beautiful views of the area.
Picked up a booking jersey. Love supporting public parks
Though COVID-19 had the center shut down, the bathrooms and water stations were clean and well maintained. There is also a small botanical garden walkthrough around the visitor center that I would implore you to walk through it. The rangers had their emergency contact and park information conveniently placed outside the building. I would note that this is the East side of the park and though it has some very impressive trails, the West side of the park (which is about 45 minutes away from the East) has a denser population of saguaro.
We visited the east side and will be visiting the west side of the park tomorrow. We have been fortunate to visit during the rainy part of the season. Everything is green and/or blooming. The desert is alive with green, red, brown, yellow, blue and purple. Simply amazing. Stunning!! Stop at the visitor center. Get some info on a hike or two. And drive the loop on the west end. Enjoy!
Great place to hike and experience nature with all it’s wonders. We managed to see some wildlife as well.
Followed every Covid-19 rule, including stamping the National Parks Passport onto stickers, so there werent numerous people touching the same stamp.
Just a neat place to visit with giant cacti.
Great place to experience nature with tons of hiking and a nice one way loop drive. There is a entrance fee for the drive that is good for 7 days. The fee is $20 per vehicle which isnt bad if you plan on spending a few days going in and out of the park. There are picnic areas plenty of pull out and interpretive areas to experience
Nice place. Small visitor center with under informed volunteers. Friendly folks but not very helpful with regards to facts about the location. Less crowded than the visitor center on the west side but Red Hills was nicer.
Pretty. Nice bike ride around the loop, if you dont mind a sharp grade.
Very helpful rangers and volunteers at Visitors Center. Nice small museum area, theater with 20 minute movie about the park and a nice gift shop with variety of small items. Clean restrooms. Pavillion with ranger programs. Attended 30 minute program about bats presented by knowledgeable and friendly interpreter. Worth the stop.
Great movie and exhibits. The vegetation marked were good.
They’re doing a great job keeping everyone safe yet still keeping everything open
We have visited a LOT of Visitor’s Centers in parks. The rangers and volunteers at this one were ready to answer our questions and guide us in the right direction for our daily activities! Loved this section of the park!
Extremely friendly staff, told me about the annual pass and saved me a lot of money since i was on a road trip covering 7 national parks. The video played at the theater helped get a good understanding of saguaro
Our group loved to see the amazing Saguaro Cactus! We visited during the Government shut down. Luckily we got to drive the park! But couldn’t visit the visitor center! Thanks to their volunteers that helped out!
They have movies that explain the history of the park and their conservation efforts. A store to buy souvenirs and Wi-Fi, as phone service is non-existent in most parts of the park. Its beautiful to drive through or go on small hikes in the park, but with all the cacti and venomous animals, I stayed on the trails. Its very beautiful when the cacti are blooming.
One of the most beautiful running/hiking/cycling road in Tucson!! 1 loop of is approximately 14 km of saguaro valleys and forests!! Enjoy the nature in all its beauty!!
Very clean facilities well managed and friendly staff. I was there to bike and run around the park and loved it. Since there is a one way road in a loop you feel safe and you can do as many lap as your legs and schedule will give you. I good warm up or a full day if you mix it with a trail walk or run. enjoy
Visitor center is closed. The gift shop is open from 8am to noon. There is no rangers to answer questions. But they provide phone number that you can call at, in case you need information.
Good museum and visitors center for Saguaro National Park EAST. This NP is special because it has an EAST and a WEST location on separate sides of Tucson. Both have great trails and scenery. EAST is best for sunset vistas.
Good drive and better hiking. Saw a jackrabbit and a great horned owl.
It is typical of most N. P. visitor centers. But it has a picturesque setting that should be a draw for any body that loves the Stark beauty of the Sonora Desert. But the Western part of the park had a crested saguaro!
Beautiful peaceful drive in the cactus forest.
Actually work here so i wont comment but let others decide for themselves.
Beautiful place. Pets not allowed on trials a big draw back.
They were able to identify a cactus we saw that wasnt too common... cool!
Clean bathrooms. Water Fountain. Beautiful loop. Love to bike it! Parking (not shaded) BUT does have shaded benches and tables. Hiking trails
I drove the loop in a 1931 Ford Model-A. What a wonderful experience ! Nature at its best & beautifully kept.
Very nice place, excellent presentation from the ranger! This park is impressive!
Amazing place to ride your road bike
Wonderful center with a film, items to see, and a nighttime critter cam that was fun to watch.
Very pretty and well marked.
I give one star. The rudest people Ive met in Tucson AZ........ The women in the office were just flat out rude.... Bummed out that people like that are running the visitors section... You should find replacements.... Place was clean, lady outside of building that greeted us was extremely kind...
This is one of the smaller visitors center Ive visited. It still had a great learning environment. They offered walking tours of the ecology trail. Two stalls in the ladies room. Clean. Friendly rangers and volunteers.
Very nice. Beautiful dessert!
Very friendly volunteers and so much wildlife! There is a pond behind the visitors center where you can watch animals drink, and there is even a cool birds nest in a cactus you can see from the center. I would definitely recommend going on the drive (or bike) around the cactus circle, so many different cactuses!!!
The visitors center was very crowded when I was there, but there is a good observation area and some exhibits to explain the area. The gift shop is also nice and staffed by knowledgeable rangers who can answer trail and park questions.
I enjoyed the movie about Saguaro National Park and the ranger talks. The movie was one of the best Ive seen from the National Parks. The gift shop had lots of fun things about the Saguaros, the park, and the cultures in Tuscon.
Helpful people with some good trail tips.
I went to Saguaro National Park East on May 23rd 2019 could we have had an unusually Cool Spring. So it was about 73 degrees when I was there in the afternoon and sunny which is almost unheard of and it was awesome. As far as national parks go it was very minimal but I give it five stars cuz I had a lot of fun and it was close to homeThe cacti were just starting to come into bloom. I was informed that Saguaro Bloom at night and as the day goes on the bloom decreases. I got there at around 1:30 in the afternoon. The blooms were running late because of the cold weather. However I did get quite a few nice pictures of some fully In Bloom Saguaro. The Saguaro Forest is not that thick I was told it was much thicker in Saguaro National Park West. However it was pleasant and uncrowded and there were quite a few Saguaro blooms. And I just had a really nice time it was quiet peaceful and close to home. Not the most spectacular place but still a really great time anyway and I brought a lunch and spent about 4 hours there and drove the 8 Mile Loop and took a few mini hikes. I took about a hundred and forty pictures and after I edited through them I did keep about 50 really good ones so I would recommend it if you are local or live on the east side of town or in Cochise or Graham counties it is closed and easy to get home and you avoid the city traffic. But if you are from out of townBut if you are from out of town and really want to see Saguaro National Park I would highly recommend going to the West District. And Bloom should starting around mid-may and they last about 2 weeks. They bloom a little later at Saguaro East because the altitude is higher and it is a little cooler
Nice, 25$ for,, 8 mile loop, this deturs many...
Saguaro National Park Visitor Center. They will help you find the perfect hike !
Loved it, I always go straight to the patch section. It is my pleasure to collect one patch from each National Park and this was no different. Thank you Park Rangers!!
Very fun and interesting, I would definitely recommend if you love a peaceful drive. Good for picture taking, the mountains make for a great picture
Very nice and knowledgeable rangers prepare personalized recommendations for maximum enjoyment of Saguaro National Park. Thank you!
Nice visitor center staffed with park rangers. If you have little kids ask the park rangers for the Junior Ranger workbook to become a Jr. Ranger. You get sworn in as a Jr. Ranger, a certificate, and a pretty cool badge with Saguaro National Park on it.The information center had interesting information on plants, animals, and history of the area. There are park maps, trail maps, restrooms, and a water filling station.
The visitor center provides great information on the park. Be sure to watch the 20 minute park video.
Very informative about the area. Great suggestions by the staff.
Saguaro National Park is split east and west. Both have visitor centers and they are different. Time for only one west is the better for nature, and short trails. More history at this one on the east side. Planning on back country camping and hiking this has more protected area and is the original.
Very helpful people. Showed us great hiking trails
Very helpful park ranger. Took the time to answer all our questions and get us setup with our new park pass.
Loved the video about the history of park.Rangers were very informative.
Smaller than most NPS visitor centers, but very knowledgeable staff and as always, passionate park rangers
Such a variety of cacti and beautiful setting. Very relaxing.
Never saw so many Cacti in 1 place
Hiking destination. We visited in the winter months....temperature was still over 70 degrees F
Great Park Rangers and a fun informational visitor center. It also look like a fun place to start a bike ride from.
The view is breathtaking. The staff are the best, thank You
Make sure to watch the movie. You’ll learn lots.
Great place to visit.
Veri nice education movie in and every 30 minutes playing.
I imagine this place would be unbearable during the summer months but otherwise in the fall it was awesome!!
Excellent staff, breath taking views, abundance of cacti & plant life.
Saguaro National Park is a must see in Tucson. The rangers were great at answering questions and patient dealing with seniors. Theres lots to learn there!
I always write things by the bathroom. They were plain and well-attended. The business inside the center was well kept up. National parks and monuments never disappoint, at least not yet.
The weather was perfect in December and it was a pleasant drive between each scenic overlook.
Same as most National Park visitor centers. Nice, small gift shop with salves and soaps made of local herbs and candy made with prickly pear. Really interesting displays, etc, about the Saguaros and the Sonoran Desert. My 10-year-old even enjoyed it. Bathrooms are clean, and the people working there are friendly. Its small; 15 minutes and youll be done. Hit the trails from there - its beautiful! We went when there was still snow on the ground. Im guessing its unbearably hot in summer.
Nice center with good information on the parks history and Saguaro cactus. Catch the 25 minute presentation--well worth the time. The loop drive is fantastic. Lots of places to stop and view the area.
Saguaro National Park is Tuscons best feature.
Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We appreciated the heat warning!
Great visitor center. Sadly, no sweat shirts
Beautiful. Great displays. Perfect mix of gift shop items.
As usual, an indispensable stop on a visit to any national park. Questions answered and information provided by helpful rangers and volunteers, as well as a few interesting displays to be seen. Also a small gift shop and fantastic Sonoran Desert views seen through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Good stop before entering Saguaro National Park East. Has good information about saguaros and the wildlife in the area, soviengneers, maps, restrooms, a place to fill your water bottles, and a small garden that describes native plants. One note, they do not sell park passes inside., you have to purchase them at the gate.
Outstanding service and selection for retail portion. Rangers are knowledgable and so friendly. Safety first, with room for adventure.
Great Visitors Center. Knowledgeable volunteer answered our questions about what we needed to see. We filled our water container before adventuring into the national park!
Very helpful staff.
Saguaro national park beautiful & visitor center is very helpful.
Wonderful hikes thru huge Catuses!
Nice visitor center. Beautiful scenery.
A pretty cool ride. Road wide enough for an RV as well. Plenty of spots to park and venture out.
This is the other visitor center for the Saguaro National Park in the west side. It is in the rincon mountain district bigger in size compared to the east side of the park. But there are many offbeaten trails unlike east which has many paved short hikes. The cactus loop drive is so close to the park and it’s fee area
This place is perfect for a family day, picnic, hiking, walk or just relax.
Very interesting place!!!
Small visitors center, half of which is a gift shop. (Merchandise in gift shop is poorly marked.) Two films rotate, both are informative but neither is terrific. The exhibits are professional and interesting, but none especially captivating. Best thing is a monitor in the corner that shows all that a night vision camera has captured in the last year.Outside is a small but fascinating nature walk with educational signage focusing on modern (and historic) users of desert plants.Ranger presentation on the effect of weather & climate change on the desert (and vice versa) is well done.
Great National Park, helpful staff!
