Came to City Fun Center for the first time today. Its an arcade that has a variety of games that include connect 4 basketball, miniature bowling, laser tag, and much more. I definitely had fun playing laser tag with my friends here.VALUEThe cost to play was alright. Not too cheap but definitely not expensive. It seems the lowest amount you can put onto a card is $10, which gives you 30 points. Adding more than $10 will give more bonus points. Most of the games I liked playing were 3 points, which roughly translates to $1.WOULD I COME BACKI would probably come back if I had a sizable group to come with. I feel this is the type of place that would be really fun if you had a group of friends or family to go with.TIPSI personally think its more value to pool the money in your group together to share one game card. That way you can obtain the higher points bonus (the more money you put in, the more free points you get on top of what you already paid for).
I was so happy they were opened today, just a reminder only thing open is miniature gold and go carts which is fine . My daughter has been stranded home with no parks or anything she had a good time today
Everything is awesome. But one could have more slot machines. More new slot machine.
The sign from the main road says Nickel City, so being from Illinois originally, I knew about the place, then I googled to make sure and it says ‘variety of games for a nickel to play’. We go in and see the front desk girl explaining the prices, first there’s an admission 2.75 per person going in, the excuse for that ‘there’s free games!’ None to be found by the way. The cheapest game card to purchase is $10 for 30 points and the games inside range from 1-6 points. The biggest and most enticing ones to kids are about 3-6 points. So figure it going to cost quite a lot to play the variety of games. My one star is for the many games they did have, and it’s a great space, but coming from a person that has been to nickel city, this isn’t it. Bait and switch. So please be advised that if you’re looking for nickel city, this isn’t it. Despite the marquee out on the street, and the game cards even saying nickel city. We even asked why they still have the name nickel city and the explanation received was that google takes awhile to update and they haven’t taken the sign down yet, they’ve been this way for a year and a half.
This is a pretty cool place to take your kids or just play some video games. They have a bunch of free old school games along with the new games. They dont use tokens or quarters, they use a credit card like system and points to pay for games that are not related directly to how much you paid. Because of this little kids have a hard time understanding how much money they are using per game and if youre not careful theyll blow through a bunch of money before they figure it out. Other than that this place is really fun. You should go there.
Comparable to most fun activity centers. This location shines with the addition of laser tag which sets it apart from most other chains. Kids will almost have a blast. Game token cost is as good as Johns incredible but cheaper then dave and busters. Nothing special in the ticket reward center.
Ive always enjoyed bringing the kids here for arcade, but now with laser tag, this place is amazing. Just celebrated my sons birthday here and they are so friendly and make the whole experience so fun!
This place is AWESOME! So much fun. Everytime we go it is different and something is new. The place is so clean. Games are super fun. Cool prizes and great food. Something for everyone!!
We had a great time. Thank you for supporting High Tech High. We will be back.
We like the games. The cards themselves are free unlike other places but there is an entry fee. They have some great 80s games that are free after entry though so you can play Q-bert to your hearts content.
Great place for a fun evening with the family! The staff is always friendly and responsive; a good selection of games; a pretty decent rate of return on prize tickets; and the whole place is always spotless. The only negative is the food feels a bit like an afterthought. However, its tasty in a pinch... and, Id rather the arcade excel in being an arcade than a restaurant!
Super clean, great mix of arcade and ticket based games, and even laser tag! Great laser tag field to play in, brought me back to my earlier years! Cheap priced games for sure and friendly college student workers earning an honest buck!
Pro:I cant tell you enough of how amazing this little gem of an arcade is!! Its amazing my son always wanna go every week never bored or tired from there racing games to the amounts of crane games they have we always come home with more toys we can store! The price and the experience is this amazing arcade are top notch and cant find it anywhere else we better to so many trying to find our son the fun and best arcade out there and he refuses all the higher franchises. Its never crowded so youll always have a spot to play over and over the prizes I can say are fair again alot better then other places!Con:Wish there wasnt but again we all need to hear the truth. Over the course of time it is aging as this place is new which mean that few of there games are either broken or missing a few balls and highly move away from them starting to see the fun ones falling apart with become unplayable and not fun rough guess at least more then 15+ are broken, unplayable and just plan out not fun.
Not bad..but charge parents for admission. also have beer but nobody there is 21 to serve it on Sunday during football.
Though in an unusual location as most arcades are in dense mall-like areas, this IS of the better arcades in the San Diego area! During our vacation between Vegas and California, we visited 6-7 arcades and this was the only one we went to twice (we are avid arcade goers with our 2 year old). Games were fully-functional, a nickel play and a free play arcade section with laser tag, bowling and beer! I would say the prizes are also pretty decent with lots of candies to choose from, too. On the first visit, there were a lot of young employees so on review, we noticed there were some criticism on customer service but Id say that for young employees, they handled chaos and dozens of screaming and excited children very well. On our second visit we met the owner Steve who was super friendly and you could really tell when he conceptualized this arcade, how much the visitor experience means to him. He went above and beyond to help comfort my screaming 2-year old in the midst of theterrible twos. Definitely a place we will return to on our visits to SD!
Kids love this place and its not going to cost you an arm and leg like dave and busters.
Nice arcade. The place is clean and usually not overcrowded. The machines are well maintained. They do have a snack bar. I havent tried the food yet, but it looks decent. They do have a small entry fee to access the gaming area. On the plus side, they do have a small section of classic games that you can play for free.
Kids have lots of fun at birthdays here. Wish it was a bit more organized and less free for all.
Had so much fun at City Fun Center! They actually have cool stuff to trade your tickets with. We spent a lot of money, thats how much fun we had!
Busy Sunday. Had a birthday party, seemed to be understaffed. Considering my son REALLY wanted to win that Claw machine, we know they can afford the help. =)
Pretty neat place, laser tag, mini bowling thing, arcade all in one, didnt try the food. Came for laser tag, they have a decent sized laser tag for what they have going on, its lit nicely and they have a good staff.
Really amazing spot! They have retro games like Centipede and Marvel vs. Capcom, and laser tag. Some of the games give out tons of tickets!! Will be back again, highly recommended
Ordered food and waited for 15 minutes so I have to follow up on my order and they said that their fryer/oven or whatever is broken. Then they offered me a free pizza because weve been waiting still Ive waited 5 more minutes so I just asked them to cancel my order but they said they cannot cancel the order anymore. After 3 more minutes they served our food and again without our drinks so we have to asked for it again. Costumer service is so poor the guy who was serving us dont even bother to apologize. Will not coming back in here anymore. Our first time to come in here and so disappointing. We never had fun at all didnt get to enjoy with my family.
Went in on a saturday evening. Ordered 3 orders of tater tots and some chicken tenders. I dunno why it took so long, perhaps they had to actually grow the potatoes fresh, but it took over 20 minutes to get food that takes less than 5 minutes in a fryer. The place was not slammed. There is absolutely no reason for this to be the case.
The new kids on board seem to be really pushy to get everyone out to close up. We were there on a sat and doors close at 9pm. They keep the arcade open for people already in the arcade but they turned on every light in the house as some kind of sign to get out. We noticed others still inside so we hung out a bit (not to mention we just loaded about 75 bucks on a card at 830pm). So the others start leaving and its just me and my 5yr old. We decide to cash in our tickets and I noticed the workers chatting and signing each other that we are finally leaving and that is why i had to give 3 stars. Was not a very welcoming feeling at all. I think we are done with this place.
Wow what an amazing placeBetter than Chuck E. CheeseEasy parking clean bathroom birthday rooms lots of different activitiesBowling old school nickel machine that actually dig real moneyAnd lots of other cool gamesEasy to win lots of prizes at the end for the kids good service for food comfortableVery recommend
Its cool... Something fun for the kids. Their selection of free games though are limited to only 2 or 3, one of which is a single-driver(?) racing game, completely in Japanese. If you live nearby it might be something to do. But if you have to drive more than 30 minutes, you may consider something closer to home.
Had a good time, but you go through the tokens really fast here.
Fun place to hang out with your family or friends. However the place is fairly small and the games are limited/pricey. There is also an admission fee for every person in the party. Nevertheless, its an amazing place to unwind during the weekend. Also, the miniature bowling this place has is fun (spent all of my money here), but it might not be worth the 5 bucks.
Clean and fun place the ONLY main issue is the fact you have to PAY just to get in.Usually I give my little boy 10 bucks to play. Well for the two of us to get in we pay almost 6 bucks. This is so dumb. Especially because he doesn’t even get a sticker or anything to justify the fee to be around the games without paying.Check the crowd first. You’re paying no matter how busy it is and how few games you’ll get to play.
Fun arcade games with the perfect mix of new school & old school for all ages, cool prizes to win, laser tag & bowling, great hang out spot, friendly staff, affordable and easy to get to! Our family had a great time there and will definitely be going back
What a fun time we had. It was our first time there and the staff took the time to explain what to do and how to best enjoy the arcade. We will be recommending this place to our friends.
Took my boys and they had lots of fun but the credits go fast!!
We love this place! My kids have a great time, completely safe, we sit and talk near the door and the kids are playing happily. We have brought our camp program on many occasions, they all love it! The tickets system is great! Really adds a super fun element for the kids. The place is so clean and new. Its large and full of games, all kinds of games, even has a small bowling alley. Around the bend is a hard to see (when you just walk in) area with so many more games. Also they have really nice party rooms! All in all a great place for kids and family that is really inexpensive/affordable.
Fun place to celebrate the bday! My 6 year old son had fun with friends. They have bowling, an are with 5 cent games and even a retro game area which is free!
We like the new changes theyve made recently. Nice indoor activity for kids. Id probably recommend this for 5 year olds and up.
Love Nickel City!! Great place to bring kids and be a kid yourself. Very clean and well run.Had a hot dog and fries..delicious. Great prize wall and lots of choices. They now have card swipe which is much easier than putting in coins. Also, try the mini bowling..had great time with kids.
Neat place. Lots of fun. Pricey
Best arcade I have ever seen. They always change up their games and if anybody has any trouble with the games, they help them. My only small problem is that they need more people at the front desk. Also, they need to keep changing what they have for sale for tickets. But overall, I recommend this place for people who like to spend a little bit of money but still want to have fun.
Really fun experience for all the kids.We planned our sons birthday party here. The party hall is very clean and tidy. Kids got 100 coins to start with, which were more than enough. Bowling was real good touch for a change. Bowling is about half the size in length and lighter balls. Kids were all ~5 yrs old and it was good fun for them. Place is a lot cleaner than Chuck E Cheese and games also give upscale feel. It is a lot bigger play area and kept very clean by the owner. Hosts were also very helpful and friendly. Overall it was a great experience for all the kids and parents. My suggestion for the owner will be to increase options for Vegetarian food.
Nice little arcade for the entire family. About half of the games are for ticket earning and the rest are arcades. They have a few free arcades in the back as well.
Our family had a very nice experience here. Came for a little family fun and was very impressed. Everything is clean, the staff is very friendly and the food is pretty good. We loved that they also have bowling. We will be back soon all the way from Oceanside for sure.
I like this place. The games and food are fairly priced. Its clean and neat actually very well organized for an arcade
I like the easy to use cards. Its $2.75 a person for entry. They still have approximately 15 games that you can use nickles. They also have a huge dinning area to eat their food. They have reasonably priced packages for entry, tokens, and food. They have pizza, soda, cotton candy, and more. I had a great time with my 2 kids. They have ticket prizes as well.
Great amazing cool place to take your kids...
Came for this promotion, which I have participated in before twice, the employee tried to tell me the promotion hasnt started yet, although I was reimbursed 5 dollars in point values for the arcade machines (deal of the century) I was upset that the public page found it acceptable to use a holiday week as an excuse for the lack of the promotion posted on their page. Shouldve added even more promotions instead if that was the case. Either follow through with your specials or discontinue them altogether, No more False Advertising.
It was most enjoyable seeing nickel city have life breathed back into it. I had been going to nickel city since I was a child and had the joys of taking my children there during a visit home. Definitely a new and improved experience.
Pretty cool place! The games are relatively cheap! The place is clean. Most of the games work. Its a bit on the smaller side but Id recommend checking it out. Its like a mini Dave and Busters.
My cousins son had a birthday party here. I used to go to Nickel City when I was a kid and it was located in Caramel Mountain. Now it moved to Miramar and its in a much bigger location. Back then it was only an arcade. Now its a huge arcade with two private party rooms you can reserve. They also serve food here now and theres a little dining/sitting area. I like the updated version. My son had a blast here!
Its fun...But could have more games. But the bowling game was cool. And dont like the admission charge.
Pretty fun place. Cheap place to get the same amount of fun as Dave and busters. Play for the joy, not for the tickets or toys because it is hard to get tickets and the toys are bad. Try the table hockey it is super fun. Also the fishing wheel game near the back is one of the easiest ways to get tickets.
Good games but pricey had more fun at chuckie cheese for half the price
I bring my kids here. Great place to reminisce and play your kids on the old Midway games, especially because I can beat them on them, lol.
Great place for kids. They constantly update their game selection. They price for admission is ~$5, but the games are only a nickel, and you could bring in your own nickels from home. Also, they allow you to bring and form of change and exchange for nickels.
On the pricey side to kill time playing pinball.
Always fun for the kids. The games arent that great but we have a good time. And they do a great job on their birthday parties. They make their own pizza and it is delicious!
Clean place. My kid had fun at a birthday party here. Nice cafe area for parents who dont want to be in the arcade. Would be better if they served beer & wine!
1) nice staff 2) mini bowling is faulty 3) not even faulty in my favor
Not as much fun since they went digital. Seemed like 1 in 5 games was out of order or broken in some way.... also its swipe your card and digital ticket credits... Kind of takes away from the tangible experience of plinking nickels in and watching the tickets count out on a win. But the kiddos still enjoy it. Good experience, just no longer great.
Go back to nickels. Or rename this place credit card city. Used to love this place but since they started using the credit card system it took all the fun out of nickel city.
The birthday party started with a nightmare due to manager/ owner not keeping with his words. He was unprofessional and rude. While other staffs were friendly, the person who was in charge of the place lacked complete manner and respect for the customer.Basically, we decided to have my 2 boys parties there. The night before he gives me a call and tells me that he would move us to the glow room which was a better room. He probably needed the other room for a bigger party, so we complied. We then bought extra glow Sticks and bands to enjoy the room we were going to be in. The day of the party we settled into the glow room. the manager then comes in and asks us to move to the regular room. this is after a couple of guest have already arrived. He states that the original room was now available.... Now, we tell him that he already promised us, but he told he could not put us there because we did not pay for it. We were a bit unhappy, and told him that he shouldnt renege on his upgrade promise.....Well we already had guest and our kids thought we had a glow party, so we paid up. He reminded us that he already did us a favor for not charging extra for having our 2 boys party at the same time. very RUDE.He should not have said something if he was not going to make it happen. I should have read the reviews of this place before I spent so much money.
I had fun. All the new games are really cool, especially the basketball game with the lights that follow the ball. Glad they switched to game cards.
The new Nickel City located on Miramar Road is outstanding. We enjoyed the previous location in Carmel Mountain, but the new location is much better. They have an expanded lounge complete with large bathrooms in the lobby (compared to a dark corner in the back at the old location), low walls to allow parents a complete view of the gaming floor and a more secure enter/exit location. They now have a full snack bar that serves drinks, candy, pretzels, popcorn, pizza, fries, nachos and more. Nickel City is family owned and operated and it is a joy to be with them while we are here. My favorite part is the free wifi; I can work on things I need to get done while allowing the kids a supervised time playing games, having fun and enjoying themselves. With admission being only $2.00 per person (those playing games) and games starting at one nickel, my children usually each go through a $5 bag of nickels in about an 1 1/2 hours. Fun, safe and reasonably priced.
This place is great but they changed it from being Nickel City to Card City. Now they are using cards, which kind of change sthe point of it being Nickel City without using nickels.
This place is clean, friendly and safe. Also very patient with my chatty son. Exceeded my expectations.
It was the first time my boyfriend and I had been there for a date it was cool
I love taking my daughter here.
I miss arcades. . .a lot. And this one is pretty good! The only thing its missing is beer, Karate Champ, and the old Star Wars vector graphic game, but I cant fault them for that. My son loves this place and its quite inexpensive for a quick trip.
Cuz.But I wish they brought back the coins instead of cards.
Most of the games use a game card now. No nickels. It costs a lot more foe an hour of fun than it used to.
Had a GREAT birthday party here. Very organized. Fun for kids AND the adults. Highly recommend.
Fun, but its no longer a place where you nickels. You pretty much have to buy a card to load up on and it can get pricey. My kids had fun, though.
My kids love this place. They choose Nickel City over Chuck-e-cheeses. I usually just purchase them each a bag of 200 nickels, but now they have a card to swipe around the arcade/gaming area like Dave & Busters and Boomers. It can get pricey though. And prizes are expensive (many points) vs. the points my kids actually earn for $20 each loaded on their cards. The place is always well-kept and clean, even the bathrooms. There is a separate place to eat/drink. You do have to pay to get in, I use my military discount and sign-up for their online deals.
Nice Variety of games but they changed over to a card system so the Nickel part of their name no longer applies. Think of this as a second tier arcade with Chuck e Cheese as first and Dave and Busters being the third.
Awesome place and the old school games for free did it for me
Last night was fun. Thanks to the awesome guys who were cloing up on NewYears Eve! Our family had a blast. We will be back.
Great price. 2.75/ person plus credits. A 25 dollar card lasted 3 of us an hour. Prizes were alright.
Place was nice. Good for the kids. I liked the pool table in the back. Safe and friendly.
Used to be good now almost everything cost more. Just a few arcades that cost 5cents. Im not coming back with my kids again
My family loves this place. I like the games better than Chuck E. cheese.Plus they have pinball for dad.
Something as small as switching from using nickels to pay for the games to a prepaid card takes half the fun away. Also there is a good chance a large handful of games are out of order every time you go.
Prices are too expensive. 20 dollars will leave you with enough tickets for pencil and eraser. Need to reconsider their price arrangements.
My kids love this place, would suggest 8 and older. My kids spent $100 in less than an hour
Lots of fun for kiddos, and you get free points if you do they’re text alerts
Best place ever to take your kid lots of fun games!! I really recommend this place.
They use cards not nickels! It was easier with nickels because you didnt have to split like 3 points.Nickel city, more like card city...
Pay money to have access to the game floor. .. to pay money to play games. .. What? Selection of games is sub par at best. Prizes are equally enticing. Its Saturday night, now I understand why its dead.
Not a great value but its tolerable and kids will enjoy the games that arent broken.
Friendly service .. hey I love video games and they have lots of em
Just had my sons 10th birthday here and it was amazing! Nickel City staff was excellent! Party room very nice, clean, and really was best staff to work with for a birthday! Thank you Nickel City for making my sons birthday magical!
Too bad they switched to gamecards instead of a bag full of nickels, but still a great family fun place!
GREAT!! My grandkids loved the old place...but this is even better. Fun games for every age..weve been three times since they opened.... they are getting the kinks out of some of the games..I think from the move...but its a place for all ages. The pizza is a real surprise..all homemade and delicious.Used to take to kids to other places that cost a quarter..not much fun for the money....but this place is clean the kids and (even me) will be back soon. Judy Wilson : )
Had fun realy for the kids. But over all staff A1 kids come first i like too them, safe atmosphere, grate place to kill time also
Fun arcade, but you pay a cover fee per person (including adults) for entering the games area. They use a card/points system, instead of tickets and coins to play the majority of the games. Theres a few nickel games and even some free play video games like Street Fighter and Galaga. You can convert your points into prizes.
Use to really enjoy this place when they actually used nickels, it was nostalgic and enjoyable for the parents, they however gave switched to a card which takes away grin the experience
Not a lot if machines. Was not crowded on Tuesday. OK place.
Fun for kids and adults! Not as crowded or expensive as other game places.
Much better experience than Chuck E Cheese with some adult arcade games too
