Loved this whole area. We were there for low tide and my son had a blast looking in the tide pools. We found a little cove to set up our chairs in the sand out of the wind. This is NOT a good swimming beach. Lots of great views and perfect for sunset, of course. If you have small kids, be especially careful of the cliffs up by the road. Get there early for sunset as parking can be tough. Bring a chair if you can.

If you visit San Diego . Sunset at sunset cliffs must be on your list. It’s beautiful to see the sunset standing on the cliff. You can’t miss this view. Just gorgeous!!

The park has 2-3 miles of coastline showing the spectacular jagged cliffs, sea caves, stairs leading to secluded beaches and sea caves and birds. Parking is limited. Be careful the cliffs are crumbly. There have been reported accidental deaths before. There’s a stair the leads to the tide pools towards the end.

The walk down to the shore is easy with a staircase. You can cross a patch of rocks to get to the sandy beach area. Usually lots of people out surfing or just hanging out waiting for the sunset so I suggest you arrive at LEAST 30 minutes before the sun sets. The hike back up the stairs is quite steep and can make you winded (especially if wearing a protective mask), but it is 100% worth the view.

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is amazingly beautiful. Its a 2.4 mile out and back trail. While there, got to see a few surfers in the water which was pretty cool. The view and the waves are settling. The steps which lead you to the cave was really nice. Nice background for pics. There was even a yoga class in session on the cliff. Do not expect every one to be wearing face masks though.

As a local from San Diego I must say this gorgeous Sunset Cliffs is one of the best place to visit . We’re always here for our exercise, a little bit of trekking see the spectacular view of sunset, sunrise, pacific ocean, waves, cliffs, birds, surfers or body boarders enjoying their barrelitos, relaxation, and meditation or name it! It’s everything in here. The staircase going to Garbage beach is extreme when you want to use it for your leg workout maybe 3 sets of going up and down and it will give you a lot of muscle endurance and heart pumping cardio.

This is the most favorite places of mine in San Diego. The Natural Park is currently closed for renovations (hopefully a new parking lot) but theres plenty of street parking most of the time. Then you can take the trails in from there. Its definitely worth it to take the time and visit.

This place could be awesome if the city would stop construction on it. Its been almost 4 years and theres still some ugly orange fences along the trail. It was so much better before when it was left alone, and truly(wild) Natural and people werent forces to stay close together on tight paths. The beach below is some of the prettiest in San Diego and is still worth the walk down.

This place is absolutely breathtaking. The views are something like out of a movie, and it’s not too hard to find parking usually(except for weekend evenings in my experience). The only reason I give 4 stars is because of the “vibe” the locals/residents of the nearby neighborhood give off. I did visit in my converted van, but I picked up after myself and made sure not to be a nuisance, or stay past allowed hours. Many dirty looks/long stares from locals, treating as if you are up to no good. While I understand some “van-lifers” have ruined it for the rest of us, I don’t think we should all be treated as criminals. They don’t seem to be a fan of out of town visitors.

Really lives up to its name. Some fantastic sunsets. Its a bit uphill to get here but worth it. Some parking available. Can get windy and a little chilly. Lots of locals and tourists. A few professional photographers. Wished they would limit the use of drones though. Even though there are a lot of people, the Cliffs are long so you can still find a nice place to relax. There are also some caves.

Out of all the places Ive been in my life, and all the places I have experienced in the world, Sunset Cliffs is by far my favorite place on earth. Growing up in San Diego, I was lucky to be able to visit all the time, and you could say it was my backyard. The perfect zen moment

Review №34

I think this is a San Diego must-see because its an experience. Head for 4501 Ladera Street so that you can park right on the side of the road and then use the stairs. People hang out on the stairs but you can go all the way down. At low tide you can access the beach. But even when the tide us pretty far in you can still stand on a flat ledge and avoid the spray from the big waves. Great photo spot between the crashing waves as the sun slips beneath the horizon for the night.

An
Review №35

Beautiful spot for photography at all times of day. Super crowded though, so I hope your photoshop skills are good so you can remove people from your shots. Also, be careful, cause you can easily fall off the cliff if you slip and the waves will ram your face into the rocks. There are some areas where you can descend close to the water but the algae makes it slippery, so be careful for that too.

While you will see signs for Sunset Cliffs Natural Park in several locations, the actual entrance was closed for renovations at the time we were there. However, there are many places along the way to pull over and take in the serene breathtaking views. There are spots where people will jump off smaller cliffs into the water. Closer to the park entrance is a steep walkway down to the water used by surfers or anyone willing to get wet or wants a closer view. Be sure to look down at some of the amazing rock formations.

Walk along the cliffs or explore Oceanside by going down the stairs (great photo ops down there).Get there at least an hour before sunset to park as it’s a popular place and don’t forget to be mindful of the neighbors as it is a residential area.Love me a good sunset this this one was way up there in the top favs.

The parking lot is closed. A re-vegetation project is keeping much of the area off limits. Folks are still jumping barriers to sit on the cliffs. We didnt go down to the beach (there are stairs at the North end). I couldnt tell where people would hike to get to the surf; we saw 2 people in wetsuits. The rest were walking dogs (one lady in a thong bikini for some reason) or just out for a stroll.

This is my favorite San Diego location for elopements or engagement photos! You dont need a permit to do a smaller photoshoot here but you will need an event permit to have an elopement or wedding ceremony. The fee is around $200 so its not bad at all! Even during the gloomier months of May and June, this location is beautiful and fun to explore but when if you have the chance to visit on a sunny day youll understand the name Sunset Cliffs. Golden hour here is an absolute dream. Since its kind of a big “Insta worthy” spot, it can become very crowded and hard to find parking. Make sure to arrive early!
