I love this place. Hard to believe I lived in San Antonio for a long time and only found this place while living in McQueeney. The trails are a perfect mix of paved and gravel with little bonus deer trails. There’s picnic tables a pavilion and a playground down the library trail for the kiddos. It is pet friendly and has poop disposal areas. I just wish some people would use them. Other than that the lookout area s beautiful around sunset and it’s a fun place to take the kids to burn off steam.

I really like coming here! Its full of great memories such as being proposed to last year in December. It has a lovely view at the top, a little past the Tower especially during Sunset. Theres multiple trails to walk through and they are labeled 3 different levels for difficulty and length, my Fiance, our Fur Daughter and I love them all and we have visited twice this past week. Also theres a few Picnic Tables and Benches in different areas, my Fiance and I play a board game called GO on the same lovely Picnic Table near the great view. This place is a must Visit at least once while in SA!

If you want a workout this is the place for you. A hill that goes up and down with many options. A sidewalk with a wide path and smaller paved paths. Smaller and rougher trails with steep grades. At the top is a limestone tower with scenic views. Plenty of workout stations along the sidewalk path. I love hiking and love the many options this park provides. ️

This is a nice place to go for a walk. They have wheelchair access for most of the trails, which is great. My husband and I like a bit more challenge, so we found some smaller trails leading off the main pathway that are a lot of fun. Great for some morning exercise.

Be aware: if you are immuno-compromised or wish to reduce your chance of transmission or infection of COVID-19, it is not physically possible to maintain a 6ft distance from other people on any of the trails. Most people do not wear masks and do not practice social distancing at this park. The park is still beautiful and new segments of paved smooth pathways have been laid and made available.

This beautiful park is so awesome....its a challenge for any person looking to just go for a walk in the area and just walking to the top has some awesome and beautiful views. There is even an open area to hold an outdoor conference or outdoor poetry reading....which is near the Julia Yates library. The trails have some park benches and some working and non-working out machines. Bring plenty of water and good shoes and go explore this one of kind hiking trail here on the north east side of SA. If parking lot is full....there is additional parking in the back of the park in Fox run elementary. But not during school days...obviously.

Review №14

This is relatively short walking trail with moderately challenging walking trails and some shade. I am glad that they are paving more of the trails because the gravel is hard on my feet, ankles, and knees. My biggest problem is all of the dog poop that dog owners leave behind on the trails because they dont clean up after their dogs! Most days there are huge dumps right on the trail. It is gross and unsanitary. The city should do more to enforce the rules or ban dogs altogether. It is too hot and stuffy on the trails because of the dense brush, so being on the trail with the dig pooh smell lingering makes sick.

I give tremendous thanks to the City of San Antonio Parks department every time I visit one of our awesome parks. This one is no exception. It’s a mix of paved and unpaved trails. Some with inclines, some with no inclines. So basically, there is something for everyone here. If you hit every single trail, you can get between 3.2 and 3.5 miles in - but that will include the unpaved trails. A few of them might be considered moderately difficult for a beginner, but not overwhelmingly so, or dangerous, etc. The steepest incline is about 165 feet in elevation change within half a mile stretch. There’s a cool “castle” tower at the top of the hill with a lot of history behind it (it’s fenced off, so you can’t go inside it). There are signs in the parking lot near the trailhead that explain the history, so I won’t bore you with that. The views: on a clear day, you can see the skyline of downtown San Antonio. The bottom line is, this is a fun hike with something for everyone. Use one of the various hiking apps out there if you want to find all of the trails

One of my favorite places to walk around in San Antonio! The view from the top of the hill is beautiful! There are two parking lots one by the Julia Yates Library and the childrens playground off of Judson and the other off of Nacogdoches. There are a ton of trails that go either around the hill to the top or you can hike straight up if youd like. There are accessible trails with clear markers. There are plenty of pick nick tables, benches and exercise equipment scattered throughout the park. There arent many restrooms so keep that in mind. Youll find then at the library or there are porta potties by the playground. The park is pet friendly. Youll see lots of families walking around, joggers, as well as plenty of people with their dogs. If you go as the sun is setting in the summer youll get to see the fire flies put on a show. Its beautiful! Right now the flowers are starting to bloom and youll get a chance to smell the light fragrance as you walk throughout the park. Enjoy!

Love, love, love this park! So many different trails off the regular path. I once found a really cool shelter made of huge sticks that could fit two people. Amazing park for walkers, joggers or runners looking to get some hill or light terrain work in. Not sure how fun it would be for little ones - I didn’t see any parks or playgrounds but lots of places for walking or running with a stroller. Mix of fairly challenging incline hiking with rocks, smooth concrete and uneven pavement. Trails clearly marked for degree of difficulty as well as to ensure you see what you want to see and don’t get lost. Lots of shade, benches along the path. Some water fountains as well if you need to refill.

A beautiful local park with well-kept, mostly-shaded trails, weaving up to the top of Comanche Lookout. Theres a medieval-looking tower at the top for pictures, but stunning and peaceful panoramic views at the top.Great for reflection, prayer, deep discussion, and clearing your head. You can park off Nacogdoches rd, or connect through the Yates Semmes library loop trail. That parking lot has a great playground for little bitty and bigger kids.Water fountains are located at the top and near the library loops, and 2 of them have the doggy water fountains as well. There is a port-o-potty that is maintained regularly. We like to hike, play on the playground, and then relax in the library to cool down. Great for families and to bring your dog.

Review №38

This is a nice local hike that’s easily access with different levels from short and easy to more incline and slightly off the beaten path. There’s a small parking lot that’s free and the start of the trail is just off it. Walking up the trail you’ll see signs for different levels. All the trails are paved, however, there are smaller off the path trails that people have created to increase incline. From the lookout point you’ll be able to see the city including downtown. There’s plenty of bench and picnic tables along with trash can throughout so that was nice. Only reason I gave it 4 start is the people that go there sometimes don’t pick up after their dog so just watch your steps. Otherwise it’s nice to do nature walk/hike that’s enjoyable without having to worry about watching out for bikes. You can’t really get lost if you stick to the main paved trails since they seem to go around in circles.

Went here hoping wed have a view of Neowise, even with the light pollution from the city, but too many trees in the direction we needed and the lookout point was fenced off (albeit someone had torn down a portion of the fence) and boarded up as well. But there were plenty of paths and a great night time view of the city. Will go back again to just take some photos of the city when our comet chasing is done :)

Comanche lookout is a fantastic trail available to all. Parking and park access are free. Many of the trails are paved, allowing for stroller and wheelchair access. This trail connects to several others. This makes it easy to get turned around. It was so beautiful that I just kept going from trail to trail and got lost. Lucky Google maps had a walking setting. It allows to make your location the start point and the parking lot the end destination. It will guide you back to your car along the trails. Youre likely less than a mile from your car from any given point.

Usually a very quiet and tranquil place to walk and/or jog. Workout stations throughout the various trails are an added workout bonus. The topmost part of park, by the tower, is a nice eagle eye view of surrounding neighborhoods, land and clear shot of being able to see Tower of the Americas downtown. The trails are a bit confusing sometimes, and its very easy to get lost, but you always come back to where you started. Do not underestimate the difficulty of some trails, btw. Some trails, though fun, are tight and steep, and it can be easy to injure yourself on those if youre not careful.
