Sunday May 30, 2020 It is a relaxing place for those who like fishing. If you like exercising then there plenty of space to ride your bike or to just walk. There are tables with shade for an enjoyable picnic for friends and family but, you need to reserve them ahead of time. At the entry when you pay, they do have a sign posted about practicing social distancing.
I enjoyed this park because theres many areas you can fish and its absolutely relaxing. A bonus is the water stays on a very regular temperature since it cools off the power plant. (Its not a nuclear plant or anything, you dont come out of the water with an arm on your forehead, okay? LOL Its perfectly safe and people have been playing in its waters for many, many, many years. )If you have a boat, youll appreciate that the boat launch is right after you enter the gate. No need to be pulling it everywhere- straight to business!Theres many picnic bench shelters you can reserve, likewise a playground you can reserve too. Theres also picnic benches galore that you dont have to reserve too, they just arent covered ones. Speaking of reserves, you can camp overnight as well! The only downside I can see from this park is that:-The gravel road part that you drive on to find a good spot to settle into, its not wide. Im pretty sure only one car/truck can fit it so others have to drive on the grass to get around another car. That needs to be wider for sure.-Its definitely a park you need to pre-plan if youre going to go on a weekend, otherwise you may end up around too many people. So go super early to find a great spot or in the later evening for one. Just remember, the park closes at 8pm!I only recently have gone, so Ill update this review later when I get some fish, haha.
Can be a nice place to relax but fishing from shore is not good. Most days you will be lucky to catch 1 fish. Entrance fee is expensive and charged per person, you rarely see anyone catch a fish, potholes everywhere on the roads, boats and kayaks sometimes pass too close to where you are fishing, overcrowded sometimes and overfished. This is suppose to be one of the best fishing spots in San Antonio, but after visiting this lake several times and not seeing anyone catch more than 1 fish during 12+ hour days, Ive decided that its not worth the entrance fee. If you want to spend time with your family relaxing outdoors, this is a fine spot as long as youre okay with the entrance fees and dont visit on an overcrowded day.
The entrance fee was $9pp?!?! Too expensive and an additional fee if you start m stay after 6pm? Thats crazy. It was nice but I think thats a little too much. We caught a red and 4 carps. Had a good time.
Good fishing spot for the weekend. They have a boat ramp and rv spots. Not sure if rv spots are open during all this mess.
The park ranger/security was nice enough but he wasnt very helpful and was a little lacking in people skills. He wasnt rude just, awkward. The location was good but you had to keep your camper behind the barriers which were a good bit away from the water. The were thousands of mosquitoes so bring your repellent.
Be careful if you are taking a boat... would not let me in because the wind was S @ 10mph...said too windy. What a joke
Its nice and quiet! I like to see how my boyfriend enjoys his quiet fishing time.
Had a great time with the family, plenty of good spots to fish. Recommend getting there early Park closes at 8 unless you have an annual pass which is around $130
Had a great day there cant wait till covid19 is over so we can camp out the kids had a blast
Great place for fun, fishing, friends my favorite place to just get away and relax.
Been here several times on my boat and have caught a few fish from the boat and pier. Came here on the 24th of October, paid 9.00 each for my wife and I, only to see that the pier was closed. Very upsetting since its hard to catch anything from the bank. Also to mention that it is getting quite expensive to go In, and no upgrades have been done. The bathrooms smell awfully bad and very few of them. Concider going to a state park. Its cheaper, cleaner bathrooms, better fishing. CPS takes advantage of the people since Calaveras and Braunig are the only big lakes around San Antonio. If coming from out of town dont waste your time here. Go to Austin, Bastrop, or lake Corpus christie.
Great catches very clean grounds and very relaxing. Great to chill and enjoy.
Family time for our brother n laws birthday and mom n laws birthday and father in law memories.
Horrible customer service and a worse lake. Don’t waste your time go to Calaveras.
Like spending time with family and friends, or maybe some private time by yourself??? Visit Braunig Lake. This park has camping areas, picnicking areas, you can watch for birds or other wild animals or insects, offers a playground, plus fishing & boating in a man-made lake. They also have special areas for RVs, if you want to spend some days at the park. Pavilions are also available for private parties or other activities. Dont forget the camera!!!I highly recommend you visit the Braunig Lake store, which offers many items....from fishing equipment and gear...to foods and beverages. This store is also one of the few lake park stores to sell Fishing Reactant Compound for both bait fishing and lure fishing. It also has first aid items. If you need to heat up some microwavable foods, they have a microwave for you to use too and free of charge.Restrooms are very clean, as well as all the grounds of the lake. Preserving nature is their motto...Now with the warmer weather, visit Braunig Lake this week...
Clean, beautiful area. Went just to drive around and look at the water. A lot of shade and grills to cook on.
Great place never seem to catch anything but its conveniently located
Dnt Waste your Money or Time No Fish HereOnly small fish there and the lake is super out dated..Also the lake needs major upgrades..I can only imagine all much money they are making per yr...
Still pretty but you cant camp there anymore.
We have been fishing here for over 40 yrs. Just wished they improved the RR or updated it a bit. Or added where to wash up when stayed overnight
MY husband went out on lake with our Kayak, the wind picked up. And he Capsized. He near DROWNED. PLZ all boaters be aware of your surroundings.
Lot better than calaveras . Clean and friendly
Had a great time. Didnt catch many fish.
Always a good time there. Polite and courteous people running the place.
Used to love this place, now I dont think I will be returning. Today I bring my family out and it was a busy day. Cost us almost $40 to get on the property. Not a single open spot with a grill or water access. But plenty of empty reservation spots were open. The water line is over grown in most spots so no fishing access. Most of the grills are missing, so unless you bring your own, youre out of luck. No regulations on how many poles can be used per spot, so the guy next to you can set up 10 or More poles if they want to (and they do). Therefore occupying a large amount of space that someone else would like to enjoy. For the price they charge, I think some upgrades are in order. On top of it all with all those poles in the water, no one was catching.
F LOVE IT!! IVE BEEN COMING HERE FOR A FEW YEARS!! MY 2ND HOME
Close to home convenience and very chill spot to hang out w friends and family for any occasion!!!!
It costs $9 a person to get in. Ridiculous. And you dont catch anything here.
I really enjoyed this place. The fee to enter was fair at a rate of 9 dollars for adults and 6 for children between the ages of 5-11/12 . they sell wat u need for fishing there except the rods
Love this lake, so peaceful and a great spot just to get away and relax. The fish are pretty big as well.
Big lake, nice place to fish
Great lake to fish around
A little swampy... Fishing is probably best off o d the boat.... Not good for bank fishing imo.
Its a very nice place
$9 to get In to fish dirty treated waste water. Lot trash. Fishing gets worse every year.
Still a great place to get away for the day. Still no overnight camping allowed.
My daughter and I love going for redfish and catfish at this lake.
Awesome lake for any beginner of fishing, awesome place to fish over night with friends or solo. Fire rings, picnic tables, and barbecue pits at plenty of spots. I believe its #8 per person for the day and $18 for overnight including fee per person. The entrance has a store with bait and other necessities. Hours differ from holidays, spring, and summer time. Try Calaveras Lake as well!
Always fun. nice peaceful place.
Great fishing! So good my rod exploded!
The management there is not up to par wanting charge full price for two hours left in the day then asking you to leave cause they close at eight pm
A beautiful and peaceful place. Great place for fishing and relaxing with the family.
Amazing peaceful place to fish with family and friends
If you want to spend $$ at a place where there’s absolutely no fish... this is the place for YOU. Other then that I don’t recommend:)
Great park but didnt get one bite lol
Lots of space to venture out
Great place to just get away from San Antonio proper. Although being less than half an hour from downtown. But it feels like youre a hundred miles away. Except for holidays and weekends. You will want to Totally avoid this park at such times. The fishing at this reservoir really really really sucks!!! After more than a year of fishing this water hole I have not caught one fish. (Note: I am a certified expert angler. I know fish catching. Any type of water, anywhere. Ive fished waters on at least three continents. An throughout America). I go to Braunig to chill, camp and paint. The amenities at this place are all basic. A small store. A playground. Boat ramps. Full RV sites. Primative tent/RV sites. Port-A potty bathrooms here and there. A picnic pavilion or two that are reservation only. Lots of shade trees and picnic tables though. There is an entry fee. With discounts for travel clubs, military and others. I pay $17.00 a night.
Clean and plenty of spots to fish off shore.
Its expensive! Every year or so, the rate changes. Its dirty, trash all over and the grass is very tall. And no fish. So you pay $9 just to sit there.
This place is nice but never has fish. They say they refill them but when you go there is never any bites or anything. I spent a whole day here trying with all kinds of baits.
We caught a 38 in red today yummy tonigjt
Very nice lake. Fishing is good the water is fairly clean. Will be back for more fishing adventures.
Its open good fishing also
Not only is it overpriced for adult entry at 14.00 and no veteran discount but the roads are in need of maintenance. We went for a little night fishing at the pier with my brothers advice. Well, nice pier and no light. Theres only 3 lights on this pier and none of them work, if you know light attracts bait fish that attract big fish. Then to top it off, my daughter drops her phone while packing up because she couldnt see it in the chair. Now I have to pay for the insurance to get it fixed. Accident that could have been solved by simple working pier lights. Spent 20 bucks at the store for snacks and bait. Im now 34 dollars into a short visit for fun and had a somewhat good time because I dont let the little things bother but, they do add up. Not worth the money in my eyes, better to just go to the river and not be skunked at the lake.
Braunig lake is a wonderful getaway. It feels that I am so far away but yet Im just in the back yard of San Antonio. Fishing is good certain times of the day. You must go early to find a great spot. If you would like to reserve a spot then youll be set. You are able to camp out. The rates to enter are very reasonable.. love braunig lake
Trash, trash, and more trash. I filled up a 50 gal trash bag with bobbers, fishing line, lures ect... Lake is restocked with hybrid and brackish water fish (none are capable of reproducing). More than half the lake is unreachable, a part staff told me that the other portions of the lake where closed and would not be reopening. Plenty of parking but few places to tie a boat.
Charge too much to get in and you need to leave by 8 p.m.
Nice park, but paid 16dollars to get in and didnt catch one fish.
A Great Place to spend the day
An amazing place to relax and catch some Redfish.
Cool, comfortable, shaded areas oh an fish also
Hit and miss. ThatsFISHING
Over price over fish annual pass are ridiculousBbq pits are brokenFor the money would rather go to the coastOr somewhere else that the fishing is better. And spend a lot less and have a lot more fun
Love going to the Lake and relax and fish
Great place to drown a worm & enjoy being at the lake!
Nice place to take family
Looked good but they dhould not ask for entrance charge when we just wanted to check it out so we come back later. I wont go back there.
Been coming here for years the staff are friendly and it has such a great feel. Plant of space to fish or if not to take the kids out for a bbq and have some fun
Great for catching Big Redfish in the summer and you dont even have to drive to the Coast
When you got to get away this is the way to go
Well run, clean and...delightful experience.
Quiet, not crowded, but not really comfortable for day trip. The water looked gross and all the decent places to set up were taken super early. If you didnt stay for the day that you paid for, even after only 5 minutes of driving through the park to look for a spot, they will not refund your money.
Pretty lake. Very inefficient check in. Everyone waits in long line to pay one cashier. Line out onto main road. Staff were incredibly rude. Traveling across the nation with bikes, kayaks, and camper. Only wanted to stay one night on our way through. We were charged 8 $ per boat even though we had no intentions of using them. No showers. Crude bathroom facility, like a prison. Camp pads are nice and clean areas.
Nice lake but entry fee is ridiculos not much to offer
The lady at the front was terribly rude!! Ruined are vibe we were so happy to get there and she was so rude and closed the store 10 minutes before 8pm. The park is nice but the face of it was incredibly disappointing!!! She should get another job if she is not happy at the lake. When we asked questions about hours she answered us w a question!?! so rudely!! Terrible customer service from the fat white lady!! Other than that once we were settled it is so nice.
Love this place good fun and fishing spot.
Had great time (lots of relaxing time).
Usually very peaceful and quiet but not tonight with music so loud
Nice lake. Very few people. Next trip Ill actually catch something. 6 hrs on the water...1 bite.
Us leaving the park n enjoyed the day stay just hanging out
If you want to go fishing this is the place to go
Good fishing, but Kayak launch sucks need to be cleaned
They need to post when they are closed or open at answer the phone !!!!
I dont know if its because we were in the back behind the power plant or what but it was supper hot! Water was warm and every now and then you would get a breeze of hot air.
Giant red fish here.. bring crawfish
Charge too much and have too many rules. Place not kept up, restrooms were nasty. No friendly customer service,
Nice and relaxing place, perfect for goin out with family
Nice but really pricey to get in
