Marion Square Park has been a mecca for the homeless. I have nothing against homeless people as individuals there are just many that are just not the best of the best you know! I would not in a million years bring my children or grandchildren here. Directly across the street to the north is a facility that provides assistance to the homeless this in itself is fantastic however recently they have allowed a tent city to build up around this particular building, in Clear Sight of the park. Until a few weeks ago a tent city was actually existing in Marion Square Park however the police clear the park out at least twice a year. Again please dont judge my attitude toward the homeless Ive been there! Many are good, but many are not. In addition Marion Square Park is within a block of the Mens Mission therefore exacerbating the homeless issue. Now that the tent city is gone you can actually see the basketball court in the park and there is a skate bowl there too. Unfortunately Ive seen the decline in the skate Bowl where once there were a lot of happy youngsters and teenagers now its the ones that are destined to be gangsters and end up in prison. Again my message is not intended to offend anyone ( although Im sure it will ) just to warn those in advance reading this review that they probably dont want to waste their time by visiting Marion Square Park. At least at the present time. PS, as I use speak to text for this review my husband who is sitting beside me at the moment has suggested I may want to add if you are going to visit the park leave your valuables at home, park your car as far away as possible keep and your hand on your phone ready to hit 911.
Seems like the displaced housing population does the best that they are able to do to keep those tbat they dont want thete out of the park. Just saying.
It would be a very nice place if there wasnt so many homeless people around there make you feel uncomfortable
Good clean please but theres a lot of homeless
It is what it is. Could have a bigger bowl
Great place to walk have your pet on leash except for a huge dog park area. Also plaqards explaining area and wildlife.Good for fresh air and beautiful Oregon weather also bicycling. Lots of trails, restrooms. Wheelchair freindly. Open air for all ages.
First trap park I ever have been to
Sad to see so many homeless strong Salem
Newport was beautiful
It needs to be redone..poorly made
Homeless situation is more cleaned up, litter is picked up majority, still gonna have issues but its a start. I love the new bridge and trails. Some are still flooded but had a good time riding.
Do not take kids here. Hypodermic needle‘s everywhere, the park has turned into a homeless camp. This is a historic park and the first park in the city of Salem, that should be enough reason to preserve it.Make your complaints to the city manager.I definitely would recommend.
Great if you like hanging out with the homeless
Fights and drugs
Just a basic park
Its a nice place for kids to play in the summer time.
Its nice for little guys get there gig on
Low class skateboard and bike u tube park. Somewhat unhealthy park due to presence of many homeless and filthy people.
Not a place I would take my children to, or go. We didnt get out of car
Cause there are many different types of attractons to check out
I wouldnt recommend letting your kids skateboard there. Bad environment.
Good skate park, but theres alot of sketchy peoole around
Its a very pretty vew
Place was clean and not to many people.
Good bike ramp park & kids having fun, always alot of homeless under bidge..
This is a place where the homeless hang needles all over meth baggies tweakers run the park drug dealers all over keep ur family safe kids and women should stay away tweakers can harm to easy if u must come husbands bring a shot gun to protect ur family I am dead serious!!!
Love coming here.
Not the greatest park in town
This used to be a great place I mean the Park is OK but with all the people around it makes it very hard to masterbate. You will get begged for cigarettes constantly and the hookers arent as good looking as they are up north. Hopefully the SPD will make this park a fine example of excellence once they move in across the street.
All of this area is over ran by homeless
Too much car noises and motos an stuff like that
Bathrooms always locked.
Great for skaters!
Terrible park. Literally dozens of homeless people live in the park and surround the area. The homeless people use the basketball court, which is fine, except for the fact that they seem like theyre on drugs-- slurring their words and saying weird things. I left as quickly as possible. NOT a family friendly park!!!
I love the church services on Sundays!
All homeless drugies there not a place needed in salem. Need police there constantly cause too many drugs there
Green trees
Lovely place
Nobody can stay the night in the park, you will be arrested if you do. It is the place where a lot of the homeless hangout, mostly due to the free dinners now served everyday by the local faith community adjacent to the park under the Marion Street Bridge.
This a park usually used for homeless, spaces nearly always for all others. A place for the charitable to be Christ like.
I love the Park very much
Nice park, lots of transients though
Great day for a outing!!!
Soup kitchen overflow area for the destitute and downtrodden, squatters, transients, can collectors, alcoholics, drug addicts, the mentally ill, gutter punks, railriders, thieves, crusties, felons, prostitutes, drug dealers, panhandlers and their ilk. All this and more, plus a decent skate park.
Garbage and homeless doing drugs all around
Beautiful
Good place to ride around
Great park
Get a hot meal five days a week here
Beautiful
Not very well maintained by the city.
Drug addicts everywhere
Nice
Very clean
Great PLACE
Pretty cool
Not a place for young children.
Pretty
Nice and cool there now :)
The place is a war zone
This is not a very safe park!
Thanks
Not a good park
Not safe for kids
Decent park but many transients
To many cops
Great for teens
Sketchy homeless people hanging out and stealing each others stolen bikes.
Great park but over run with trouble.
It sucks
Home sweet home!
Its inhumane to lock the bathrooms and not have water fountains for that park. It seems like were just adding to their already undignified lives. It could be us out there. For the sake of Heaven, is there noting we can do? Please, somebody do something.
