Been to many film festivals and holiday films with my friends. Always a wonderful experience, its great to see history being preserved.
Classic cinema atmosphere. The double deck seating is nice if you prefer a more leveled viewing experience. Crowds are very quiet and respectful.
Very nice time there, great atmosphere! Loved the old movie and the informative talk about the director prior to the movie.
I would love to give 5 stars but no food or drink allowed in the theater. I understand that it has been renovated and you would have to hire more staff for cleanup, but enjoying some popcorn with a movie is what I enjoy.Other than that....awesome place. I have no reason not to return. The friendliest staff you ever wanted to meet.
Great theatre experience. A lovely venue with comfortable, clean seats and enough leg room, 35 mm print, excellent sound, and an interesting short talk by a film historian before the screening. It just does not get better than this.
Excellent old time Movie theater that shows the old films in their original format
Saw Its a Wonderful Life, and Scrooge!
The Dryden Theatre at the George Eastman house is a Rochester landmark. Its a small, intimate movie theater that shows classic films and other art type film offerings. There isnt a bad seat due to its small size. Often they have guest speakers who were involved with the film being shown which is a real treat.
Great experience in a beautiful theater!Came here with the family on a whim to see a showing of Planes, trains & automobiles and was very happy we did. The theater is awesome especially since it has a nostalgic look to it; thats probably because they preserved the look, although I dont know because Ive never been there before. Most any seat has a perfect view but if you want to get one of those upper balcony seats that are right on the front come early.
Great place. Enjoyed the visit
Love the Dryden. Nothing else really like it in town. Truly a beloved cinema institution in Rochester or anywhere else in my opinion.
Great environment. Shows movies not likely to be seen anywhere else.
Love the scene and 90s movies. Plus cheap tickets lol. My go to in Rochester.
Saw Bestia (1921) tonight with lncredible live piano! Wow!
Great Rochester NY historical atmosphere. Snack / Food bar good. Staff is friendly.
Enjoyed a matinee including the live piano music preceding the show. The theater conditions are top-notch. The Drydens classic film library is impressive.
Amazing to be able to watch film rather than digital! Good seating. Often an informative and entertaining lecture before a film. A treasure.
Great film screenings here. Always learn something & see good art. Theater has plenty parking, reasonable price, clean, nice patrons.
I enjoyed it very much
I went to the Dryden Theater for the fast forward film festival. It is a beautiful theater attached to the George Eastman house and unlike other theaters no food or beverages are allowed inside. There is a stage next to the screen where probably directors or producers can make a speech or in the case of fast forward film festival where the winners of the festival are announced.I had not been to this theater prior to the renovation and cannot comment on the quality or the necessity of the renovation, but it sure is a beautiful setting.I am all for supporting anything local and would love to go back to watch movies.
Nice theater that shows great films you wont see anywhere else!
Amazing movie selection that helps me feel informed about movies of the past and present
The Dryden is a great theater with lots of different events and festivals.
This is a film nerd sanctuary. The updated facility makes for a cleaner, more comfortable theater. The sound is superb, great film selection and the panels arent like anywhere else.
One of the best places to see and embrace film
World-renowned for its collections in the fields of photography and cinema, the museum is also a leader in film preservation and photograph conservation, educating archivists and conservators from around the world. Home to the 500-seat Dryden Theatre, the museum is located on the estate of entrepreneur and philanthropist George Eastman, the founder of Eastman Kodak Company. The estate was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966.[Wikipedia]
Older uncomfortable seats and not alot of elbow room.
They have some good movies to see on the big screen.
Marvelous place to watch some very interesting films. I particularly enjoy the themes that tie together films that one can see on thebig screen once again.
Love this theater. Its a real gem and makes me feel lucky to live in Rochester.
Awesome classic films shown. Saw its a wonderful life original 35mm film. Doesnt get much better than that
Perfect place especially around Christmas time.
Great little theatre.
A Rochester treasure. Their showtimes are friendly on your schedule and the introductions by staff tee you up for a wonderful experience. Whats playing at the Dryden? is always a good starting point for an evening with my wife.
Loved it here was here for a fundraiser never sat in the theater before but I loved it Im going to be researching more about the Dryden theater so I can go more frequently had a great time with my friends.
This is one of the best places to view a movie in Rochester. Clean, modern facility. They introduce the movie with a brief synapses before each showing. After the movie, stop at the cafe for dessert.
Always enjoy the senior matinee.
A Rochester secret that I drag all my friends from out of town to. Excellent curators and film selection. The place has personality and exudes an aura of good taste.
Nice atmosphere and usually interesting people.
Enjoyed a silent movie here. My first time with this type of movie. Ample seating, great atmosphere.
Great place to see classic movies and new movies
One of the most versatile theaters left in America in terms of film and digital formats. Excellent events showing a wide variety of American and foreign cinema.
Great for old films though the screen requies a head tilt from too many locations
It was a great environment and easy parking
Best place to see the classics or classics to be!
Great place to watch classic movies.
One of the few places in the world that can show nitrate films, virtually every other type of projector known, and a film collection second to none !Martin Scorsese and many others have donated their collections to this theater. One of the most outstanding collections of films and equipment in the world, backstopped by an outstanding staff of curators.
If someone is new to the area and they ask for a great local place to check out, I always recommend them to the Dryden Theatre as one of the many choices to see. Even before the recent renovations to the theater (which theyve done a fantastic job in modernizing while still keeping the place classy), nothing beats seeing an old film on the big screen. And what they bring to the local indie film scene is great with the festivals they service throughout the year.Make sure you plan ahead from the monthly schedule thats available on their website and check out this Rochester staple!
Had a blast.
Usually a great place, however I will not believe their website for movie times! We checked their website multiple times for the movie Henry V & the website said 8 pm but it was wrong. We showed up at 8 pm with other people and found out it was wrong! Always call for movie times! Such a disappointment for our guests.
Beautifully restored, and brings a sense of class to East avenue entertainment.
Nostalgic, timeless films in a theater full (or not so full) of fellow fans of classic cinema ;-)
Frequent visitor. Love seeing the upcoming selection. Great curation.
Love all these old movies, fun night out.
Classic films cannot be beat!
Great classic theater
Good acoustics
Best sound system in any theatre of Rochester and perfect acoustics. Concert style bay seating in balcony.
Love the Dryden. Great theater with tons of Rochester history.
Seats old and small.
Wonderful theater playing the best of the best
Only watched one movie here, but there was a guy who fell asleep and snored to loud!!!
I’m sure Netflix has killed some of the crowd here but still this is a cultural icon.
Wonderful theater
The place for film in Rochester.
World renowned.
Wow!
Awesome old and rare movies!
If I want to see the original Ghostbusters on the big screen, this is where I go.
