One of the best national Civil War battlefields in the East. The NPS has a visitors center in the historic Tredegar building that was used to make ammunition for the confederate state during the Civil War. There is a museum that accompanies the visitors center that tells the history of Richmond and the surrounding area before, during, and after the Civil War. The museum has treasured photos of the destruction of Richmond and maps that give a time period marking all events from 1861-1865. The museum is free to all and parking is available right next door.

Incredibly historical, being that Tredegar was of of the biggest manufacturers of weapons during the Civil War. The original artifacts, pictures and unique storytelling exhibits give you a good sense of what it was like to fight as a soldier on the front lines. For those who call Richmond home, the pictures from the 19th century are near to see as compared to what the city looks like today. When youre done with the museum, take a short walk to the river directly across the street for some hiking, swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking!

Two for one museum for not only Richmond and the war but the ironworks role in the citys growth. Very informative with a great display of artifacts. Attached to a visitor center and gift shop. Parking is 6 dollars but the museum will validate it with admission which is 5.

An important thing to note about this location is that there are actually two separate places here, the historical Tredegar building is owned by the U.S. National Park service and serves as a guide to explore the rest of the Richmond battlefield. The other is a privately owned museum. This place is wonderful. Here there is free admission and a pretty good interpretation of the site and the other sites within the area. There are two interpretive videos explaining the battlefields and Tredegar Iron Works which made cannons during the Civil War for the confederate cause. There are several displays and maps and the guides are willing to help you on your quest to discover the battlefields. A must stop for the Civil War buff!

This is a cool visitors center with a museum, cannons, water wheel, boiler equipment and great information officers. Only drag is that you pay for parking and you have to pay with a credit card at the gate, there is no attendant and cannot accept cash.

Nothing but a slavery museum and far from historicaly accurate. If the war was about slavery why did lincoln wait until 1865 to free all slaves. Only 2 states out of the U.S. did not have slaves. White house, Grant, all of them had slaves. Robert E Lee came from a poor family they did not have slaves, more lies. His wifes family had slaves, who was granddaughter of Martha Washington, President Washingtons wife.

We stopped by at the Richmond National Battlefield and there is a lot of history to learn. There are plenty of exhibits explaining different specific events and a few different 20 minute long videos that also do a great job explaining the history of this place.

Great place to learn the history of Richmond from its founding through the Civil War. The best part is that the National Park visitor center is free--you dont have to pay a lot to get access to movies and exhibits.
