The guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. The house is well preserved and its like youre transported back in time. The tour is about an hour long and the kids can do activities in their junior park ranger booklet throughout it. Recommend this historical site to people looking to get their history fix in Richmond.

Small house- great woman! If you have never heard who Maggie L. Walker was, heres the place to find it out! Her house is well preserved and maintained by National Park Service (NPS)/ Richmond national Battlefield Park (RNBP).We visited during the 2nd street festival and were given a short but very interesting and informative tour. Definitely recommend this site to everyone! There is no admission fee and you will leave much richer than you came.

I have visited many famous figures mansions/ houses and this is the most special one. It is why I am taking my time to write a review after the visit. The visitor center is simple and relatively small but the staffs are welcoming. The film is very motivational and inspiring.Maggie was a spiritual and inspiring woman that we should learn from and memorize. Dont neglect the roles colored people play in U.S decades ago.

I, rather shamefully, had never heard of Maggie Walker before coming to this park. I left with an appreciation for all she did for her community (and in turn, America). Park ranger Ben Anderson have a thoughtful and respectful tour of her home where he was careful to note the significance of her standing for the period. After our visit here, this is easily one of my favorite national parks -- up there with Yellowstone!

Visited the Maggie L Walker NHS as we try to visit all of the units in the park system. The staff here was extremely friendly and informative and, due to the low visitor count, we got a private tour of Maggies home.Would recommend visiting to learn more about this woman. Expect to spend 1-2 hours here if you do the tour

This was a remarkable woman who did amazing things with no excuses. So happy that we stopped and visited this site. This American Hero is definitely unsung, she overcame and accomplished things that would be hard to do today, but she did it as a Black Woman in what was the Capital of the Confederacy.

An interesting building with beautiful architecture from an a long time ago. It is located in an area of Richmond that can be a bit scary after hours so be sure to travel carefully. The inside is well preserved with many interesting things to see. The people inside are very nice and offer useful details and information that really help to enrich the experience. Check this place out if you can.

Review №43

Maggie Walker is an amazing woman that should be recognized. The visitor center has practically zero displays on Ms. Walker and the place is small and musty. The house was generously wealthy for its time and location but tight for tour groups larger than six. If you have issues with climbing stairs or standing for more than 45 minutes-this is not for you. I do NOT recommend this for kids under 10...tour too long and they cannot touch anything. I wouldve like to have heard more about her Irish birth father (parents relationship) and less of the accidental shooting. Knowledgable and friendly staff.

Everyone should learn about Maggie Walker in their history classes, but few do. Maggie Walkers home in Richmond has been recreated with all of her original furnishings. And, while the house is nice -- its an early 20th century period house with a few interesting pieces -- its really Maggie Walkers story that needs to be told. An amazing woman who was a civil rights leader and a leader for womens rights and equality. Ask the guide to point you toward where her bank and department store were located in the neighborhood and add them onto your walking tour of Maggies Richmond.

Rude armed guards and unknowledgeable staff and having federal officers with weapons while I tpur a museum is just creepy as fok. There is less security at my bank. When asked they go out of your way to make you feel uncomfortable and intimidated, like some kind of power trip to guard a Courtyard at a museum. Too bad the monuments dont get the same attention... #NotTheOldRichmond #MyHomeIsForeverLost
