Beautiful canyon on the edge of Provo. I have hiked here for years. Last time I saw desert bighorn sheep! Be aware that it is pretty steep. If you take the side hike to Squaw Peak, it is even steeper, but 360°views!

Wow, thought it would be colder today (Nov 28). Warmed up as we got moving. It is a fun intermediate course (not for the faint of heart)!

Nice very uphill hike. If you’re sick of the Y trail, this has a similar incline, and foot traffic, but significantly more shade (if the season is right). Also has a water fountain about a mile up the trail. The creek bed was dry when we hiked, in mid June, but the fountain was cool and refreshing. Look for ‘bridge #4’ if you’d like a quick detour to check out the Rock Canyon cave on the left side on your way up. That’s as far as I got on this hike (brace for a steep, consistent incline the whole way up).

I love this trail. The cliffs are so stunning. I run up to the campground and enjoy the mix of forest, cliffs, bridges, waterfalls, and butterflies this trail has to offer. You can access Bonneville Shoreline Trail at the trailhead, or continue up to Squaw peak and other mountains.

Nice walking trail with places to go off trail! Some parts of the trail are nice, cool and shady. Go in earlier morning to avoid crowds. Lots of spots to rock climb too with tethers. Very rocky terrain.

This hike is not too strenuous and gets more and more beautiful as you get nearer to the top. Even small children can handle the slope of this hike, although they wont likely make it the entire 5.5 mile round trip.

This is GORGEOUS! Its slightly steep, but not bad. I loved hiking here. I wish I had known there was rock climbing there so we couldve come prepared for that! There are seriously rock climbing bolts put in all up the canyon, and there are some good bouldering spots, too. Next time Im in Provo, I will definitely be coming back here. If you really want to have an adventurous hike, I would bring chacos or waterproof hiking shoes so you can explore around the creek a little more.

Rock canyon is awesome it has something for everyone, all year round. Winter is a great time to hike up and sled down. Or take a fat tire bike, or even ski. Squaw peak is also reachable year round. It’s quite a steep hike but very reachable all year round. A fun cave can be found across the stream between bridges 3-4.

One of my favorite easy trails to hike. There are restrooms and a drinking fountain at the park where the trailhead starts, and two drinking fountains along the trail. The trail goes along a creek most of the way and there are five bridges that cross it along the way. Ive seen deer, and occasionally rattlesnakes off of the beaten path, and I had a moose encounter just past the Squaw Peak turnoff.

Beautiful hiking trail. There are places where you can rock climb as well. Also great for hiking in the snow in the winter. There are good camping spots along the trail as well as at the end of the trail. There’s a fork a couple of miles in, if you go left you end up on Squaw Peak.

Rock Canyon is a beautiful place to visit if you want to explore the outdoors. There are hiking trails that run up through the canyon, there are plenty of rock climbing routes, and there are outhouse services at the bottom of the canyon.I have spent hours climbing, exploring, and enjoying the natural beauty in Rock Canyon. Ive gone there a couple times for relaxing hikes, its where I went outdoor rock climbing for the first time, and there are plenty of rock climbing routes suitable for beginners. This place is definitely worth a visit, especially in the late summer or early fall when its still warm, but the leaves are starting to change color.

My childhood canyon. Lots of secrets and caves to explore when not crowded by insufferable BYU students trying their hand at rock climbing.

An
Review №46

This canyon is amazing. Super close to Provo, and some of the best climbing in the world can be found here. The 4th longest sport climbing route in the entire world is located in this canyon. Search squawstruck if you want more information about that. The mountain biking and hiking are both also excellent. I do have some specific recommendations for people coming here.Parking: The parking lot is located at the mouth of the canyon. There is usually plenty of parking, Saturdays in the summer excepted.Restrooms: There are male/female restrooms at the mouth of the canyon. These are pretty primitive, so be prepared.Trails: There is a main trail going up the canyon, with many offshoots. Please stay on the trails and help prevent trail erosion, which is a serious problem here.Safety: If you are climbing or biking, wear a helmet. It is not worth your life. Way too many climbers run the risk of serious head injury. Climb within your level. Also, exercise caution with the weather. It can get very cold, very fast, even in the summer. You gain altitude quickly in this canyon, and the majority of the trail is in the shade. All in all, great canyon. Please take good care of it, leave no trace, and we can all enjoy it for years to come.

One of my favorite trails in Utah County - the rock formations going into the hike are beautiful. If you are a rock climber, look no further as there are countless routes available for your climbing pleasure. I prefer a morning hike - there are 2 spring water fountains on this hike with fresh mountain water. I prefer to stay to the right instead of going up Squaw Peak. More steep than I prefer. Great for families, dog friendly (please pick up poop!) and a perfect way to recharge your internal batteries.
