This was a tough hike for me, which is good because I like a challenge...but it was a challenge. The views are amazing. Its a fun hike, with different types of terrain. Biggest cons: way too many people and I was annoyed at how many people want me to listen to their music. Please, everyone, headphones.

We went the first Saturday in October aiming to summit at sunrise. Timpooneke parking lot ~80% full at 3am. Beautiful views throughout the hike - trail of headlamps and stars on the way up and early dawn light and autumn color on the way down. Maybe 75 people on the summit for the sunrise.

Great trail, not easy, but not horrible. Worth the views. Hike it at night to enjoy the sunrise or just to avoid the summer heat and crowds. I like to start between 2330 and 0000. Shot my photo about 0230 from the summit. Had it all to myself and it was glorious. The last half mile is a calf burner to be sure.

One of the best hikes in Utah, and maybe in the US! Loved it! So beautiful!! The views were kind of hard to see due to recent wildfires, but still beautiful! We started at midnight from the Timpanookie trail, and made it up around 6 AM for the sunrise. We weren’t in the best shape, so it took about a total of 11 hours to hike round trip. My steps ended up totally 16 Miles. So rewarding when you get to the top!We went at the end of August. No snow at the top, but it was in the 30s once we hit the summit. Super windy, and super cold, so you want to dress warm. Loved the hike!!!

Well maintained trail and busy on the holiday weekend. My group arrived at 2am to find the parking lot mostly full already. Different parts of our group made it to the saddle or summit for sunrise, taking 4.5 hours or less to hike up. Though the trail was busy people on the trail were very friendly. We saw runners to sandal wearers at the top. Going from the saddle to the summit the trail looks daunting to come back down, but coming down from the summit it was much easier than we anticipated. Will definitely go again!

Very hard hike, summited it my first time with my girlfriend’s dad 3 hours 15 minutes from bottom to top, the way up was pretty hard but why not? The views, the wildlife, all the people you meet on the way, you can see the diversity on humanity, some stronger, some with more heart than others to summit it, such an amazing experience, BECAUSE it gives you time to reflect who you really are, highly recommend it, it’s worth keep going to the summit.

This is the second summit that I have reached. I hiked the summit with my brother. We are always pushing ourselves but conserved energy at the beginning. Turned out not to be as bad as originally expected. The altitude at the top made us a little dizzy. The did the hike from the timpanooke trail to the summit and back in under 5 hours and spent an hour at the top. This trail is heavily hiked with about 100 people at the summit when we reached it.We started a 7 AM which was a late start I guess. The parking lot was full and ended up parking about a mile from the trail head. Talked to someone who reached the bottom the same time and they said that they started at 3 AM.

The beauty of this place cant be overstated, and its well worth the hike. Either trailhead offers stuffing views and scenery. Timpanookee is easier, but longer than Aspen Grove. A caution to students coming from out of state who have heard this is an easy Saturday jaunt...this is a hard hike, and you must plan accordingly. Bring plenty of water and a good jacket for the summit.

The scenery is beautiful, from both the saddle and the summit. But the hike up was brutal. As of Aug 31st 2019 there was still snow along the hike, there were 4 places you crossed over snow.We started at 6am, the mosquitoes started to come out soon after sunrise and they were a frustration, but as the heat increased they went away.It was surprisingly very busy along the trail, and this made the hiking time more than normal, there were runners, hikers (both experienced and not), large groups, small groups individuals and couples.Generally all were polite, except for the runners, for the most part they were rude and expected you to part the way like Moses parted the red sea, what just because youre a runner? And where the heck do you want me to go. There is a cliff on one side and a rock wall on the other, so you mr runner and mrs, slow down when passing people and have etiquette!!Also there were a number of dogs on the trail, 90+% were off leash which sometimes was a pain as well as the dogs just squeezed through and sometimes knocked into you. There was wildlife along the way, from the annoying mosquitoes to other insects, chipmunks and we also saw a large white mountain goat which came close, before a dog started to chase the goat down the side. All in all a long sore but fulfilling hike. Glad I went all the way to the top this time. Mount Timp

Beastly hike, prepare to have your breath taken away literally and figuratively. Second time hiking Timp both sides. I prefer the Timponokee side over the Aspen side. Super beautiful either way. More waterfalls on the Aspen side though.I needed almost four litters of water so judge accordingly. Better to have more than less for a 10 hour hike.

This was a beautiful and amazing hike! Some of the most beautiful scenes in Utah! Its a pretty difficult hike so make sure you go prepared and are in shape for a long hike! This hike is about 12 hours if you are going at a regular pace. We started the hike at 6 am and got done at 6 pm. Make sure you bring a lot of water, snacks, lunch, first aid, toilet paper, etc. Make sure that you are wearing good shoes as well. Also parking is crazy in the summer, so you depending on how bad it is, you may have an extra mile walk just to get to the trailhead. If you get to the saddle, hike to the summit, it is about an hour longer, but it is worth it! You can write your name on the hut and sign the book!

Really good hike up from the Aspen Grove Trailhead. It is a lengthy journey but it is well worth it. It has good views all the way up, and the moment you can see the green heber valley at the same time as the cityscaped Utah valley is amazing. I do not however recommend going back down over the glacier. It is slickery and its very easy to hit your head on hard rocks if you fall or slip. Just go back down through the saddle and you should be fine.

Difficulty: Hard, Strenous...Caution for those scared of heights, the ascent from saddle to summit is very steep and looks right over a few cliffs. Great hike for everyone, but a little more training is highly recommended...Gear: Sturdy hiking shoes (no flip flops!!!), breathable/ sweat absorbing clothing, will socks, light and medium light jacket, and rain slicker, sunglasses and a hat. Bring a camera or smartphone equivalent.Water: At least 50 oz. of water. You cant really have enough water when hiking....Food: Pack at least one meal, with other high energy food ( Clif bars, trail mix, beef jerky, pb & js) dont get stuck without energy on the saddle.Worth it?? Synopsis: youll start in a little parking lot up American Fork Canyon, and start the gradually inclining trail. Lots of switch brwath taking views of the Wasatch, Never, and Utah Valley. More often than not, you get to hike with some of the wildlife (Mountain Goats, Moose or Moosen, Deer, etc...)make sure you have sturdy hiking or trail running shoes.OpportunityBest Time to Hike (my opinion): leave at 1 AM and hike to the summit (the metal shack at the top) for the sunrise. Hike down in the warmth of the sun.Depending on the season, youll find yourself hiking with a pretty diverse group of people from scouts, to college students, to ultra marathon runners... Share the trail and enjoy!!

Popular, challenging hike. Youll see a lot of people on the trail and some hike it through the night and come down in the morning. Be careful where you park at the bottom, though it seems like a lot of people are illegally parked, youll likely a ticket/towed if you park where youre not supposed to. A must stop for anyone who likes hiking.

The view is absolutely unbeatable. It is about 9.5 miles one way from the Aspen Grove trailhead. Allow yourself a full day for this hike. Some parts of it can be steep, some are very pleasant. There is a boulder field at one point, meadows, a couple of alpine lakes. Best in late summer when the snow has melted off mostly. Very popular trail so you will very likely be hiking with other people along the way. Best to hit the trail good and early (5 or 6 am) and you will be greeted by the sunrise over Midway/Heber as you hike up the valley towards Roberts Horn and you will hit the summit by noon at the latest.

Mi
Review №77

Good hike, but its pretty miserable getting up. Only go if you love hiking or are looking for a whole lot of pain

Ed
Review №78

If youre hiking in Utah, this is one you shouldnt miss. There are two main trailheads: the Aspen Grove trail starts just north of Sundance up Provo Canyon; the Timpooneke trail starts a few miles further north on the Alpine Loop. There is limited parking at both locations so get there early. Watch for parking restrictions; theyre heavily enforced. Access to the park and trails is $6 for three days (as of Summer 2017).What makes Mount Timpanogos (also called TImp) so special is the variety of things to see during the hike. The Aspen Grove trail comes up along a series of steep switchbacks which eventually lead to waterfalls along the trail and to Emerald Lake, a pool fed by water in the mountain, and a permanent (but disappearing) snow field which hikers sometimes try to slide down while descending south from the peak (although this is very dangerous and not even possible most of the year). The Aspen Grove trail is slightly shorter than the Timpooneke trail but it is steeper. To get to the peak after Emerald Lake, hikers cross a large field of boulders that have fallen off the massive face on the east side of the mountain. The Timpooneke trail ascends through four phases: the first part of the trail runs through trees and crosses small waterfalls; the second part of the trail climbs from a massive rock plateau through pine trees and across rocky paths; the third phase is the climb to the Saddle on a trail that runs across a huge basin (stay to the right at the trail signs to climb to the Saddle and peak or stay to the left to cross the basin and climb up to the Emerald Lake plateau; (from the Saddle you can see the mountain range to the east and the Utah Valley floor and Utah Lake to the west)); the last phase is the climb to the peak along a very rocky and sometimes challenging trail. At the peak, there is room to sit and take in spectacular views and there is a small metal shack that typically contains a booklet you can sign.Along the trails, it is quite common to see mountain goat herds, rodents, small snakes and lizards, and a variety of birds and insects. The wildflowers are diverse and spectacular. Theres no technical climbing, so the difficulty in this hike is primarily its length. Hikers climb over 4,000 across approximately seven miles from the trailhead to the peak. The top is almost 12,000 feet above sea level. Its often a heavily trafficked trail, so if you want to avoid a lot of people hike early or late in the season and avoid weekends. The peak is a popular destination for people that want to watch the sunrise or sunset, so you can find people hiking the trail any time of the day or night.
