This is a jewel of Utah. The hike is absolutely amazing the entire way. If you havent hiked it, I strongly suggest you do. However, its not for everyone. This is not a low impact hike or even a medium one. If you are planning on going to the summit you should be an experienced hiker. Or at least be with someone that is.The start of the trail head is quit easy and very beautiful with the first thing to really see being Stewart falls. From there it is all up hill. The switch backs make this a very easy climb with many areas of the trail cutting through the rocky cliffs and shear drop offs making for some awesome views.By the time you find yourself at Emerald Lake and what I will call the base camp at the base of the glacier, you may have already seen the herd of mountain goats that claim this area their home. Quit an amazing site. They pay no mind to us minor humans and only ask that we respect some distance for their young sake.Once you leave this place, the climb truly begins. Your start will take you through a scree field of many boulders that can be ankle twisters if you dont plan out your steps. Stay on the marked path as best you can. Stay down and away from the beauty glaciers that you can see along the way. Getting up on them and too close the sides of the shear cliffs could be a poor idea, as at times there are large boulders that do come off and down into the scree field. As you work your way up from there you will clearly see a very steep and quit loosely gravely incline. This is your first and only treacherous portion of the climb, but it will steal your energy and refuse to give it back. When you find yourself at the saddle at the top of the very steep part of the trail, you will want to take another break. No shame, as almost everyone does. This is a great place to stop for lunch. It has incredible views of both Utah valley and Hebber valley with Deer Creek in full view as well. Now you have reached 10,280 feet above sea level. The summit is close, but take a good break and have a good lunch. The next part of the climb is mostly straight up from here. However, dont worry, you have already conquered the hardest part. Just about 30 minutes from the summit now, you will look ahead and think, looks easy from here. With a path about 400 yards long to where the cliff climbing starts. Its hard to tell if the path takes you to cliff climbing, but again not to worry. This cliff climbing is easier than it sounds. When you get to the top of the cliffs you can clearly see the summit now. Again, from here it looks tough, but you can do it. Looks are deceiving. Take your time and give yourself a break or two along the way. Dont forget, you are tired from all the work you have already done. Now you are at the summit and at 11,750 feet above sea level, and the signature hut. You can sign your name in the book and or on the Steel look out. Almost everyone does. The views from here are indescribable, so Im not going to try and fake it. You can take as many pictures as you want, and it will still never come close to what you are seeing or could discribe. It is truly awe inspiring and soul finding.By now, you will be asking yourself, I hope I packed enough water for the trip back down. And I hope you did as well, with this being my best reminder for you.Water is heavy and tough to pack. I suggest packing water bottles. As you drink them you lighten your load, and larger drinking containers will only slosh around and shift your wieght. There were just the two of us, and we had to pack 14 water bottles, just for us. You will use less water going down than you used going up, but make sure you give yourself plenty for the trip down. Please keep this trail clean by packing it in, and packing it out.Have a safe and wonderful journey. I know you will.
Aspen Grove, being one of the two ways to get to the summit is a wonderful hike. It is steep and after 2-4 hours of trail time you are rewarded with a tour of emerald lake. But then the real work begins as you traverse the scree field to get to the saddle, which is probably close to a mile of very sharp rocks, steep shear slopes and glacier snow. Punctuated with a very steep 200-300+ yd climb at the end to connect with the Timpooneke trail and on to the saddle. But the views are worth it.From there you are approximately a mile to the summit. Surprisingly many people do not take that last stretch and summit the mountain. It is +/-11,000 feet - only about 700 elevation gain to the summit. But due to the altitude those 700 feel can be a chore all the way round...Regardless, to summit Timpanogos it is best to go up Timpooneke and down Aspen Grove. This requires logistics planning to make it happen, but you do get to see most of the mountain.
Well worn, marked, and maintained path in absolutely gorgeous lush country. Much is shaded and soft dirt. The rock decent cant be helped but it is worth it 100% to see Stewart Falls!
Really fun hike. The kids loved it. It was a little bit more intense then then my 7 and 4 year old have done in the past. But they managed. The waterfall didn’t disappoint! I will be going with my daughters again on this hike!
Beautiful! But incredibly busy. Some people have to park way down the road and hike to the hike! Lol
Crowded, but a very nice hike for easy/mildly intermediate adventurer.
Beautiful hike! A big avalanche happened this last winter so theres snow over the trail for some parts. Lots of trees were down. We didnt go that far, but some in our group got above second falls before it was time to go back.
One of the most scenic areas to see especially in Fall, and a fantastic place for hiking, biking, and photography.
Beautiful views, easy trail, the Stewart cascades are worth the the hike for sure.
Nice trails with nice waterfall at the end but very very busy today..
A day in nature is always a great day. Make sure that you arrive early as the parking lot fills up fast.
One of my favorite hikes. I have been every season since I moved here. They all are a equally great time.
The waterfall is great and the trail is moderate. Try to go early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid a lit of people (and dogs) on this narrow trail.
Great hike up to Stewart Falls!
Needs better signage for timpanogos falls
The views are spectacular. Note: DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE MAPS to get you to Stewart Falls. It will take you down Private Roads with no access to the Falls. The trail head is inside the National Park. The trail is moderate overall, up and down both ways. Some Rocky areas but not bad. The trail down to the base of the Falls is steep and narrow. Bring plenty of water in the heat.
Beautiful views and great length for a hike. Pack a snack or small lunch and head on up to the falls. Dont forget your camera theres more to see than just the falls.
Great place to hike to Stewart Falls and Mt. Timpanogos.
Plenty of parking for access to the Stewart Cascades hike and the longer Mount Timpanogos trail. The 4-mile round trip hike was completed in a couple of hours with 5 small children. The hike is not strenuous and the children were able to walk on their own.
Really nice I love it
Lovely trail and not too difficult! Perfect hike with varying terrain to keep it interesting! Stuart Falls was spectacular as well!
A beautiful hike and gorgeous waterfall destination, but getting down to the bottom of the waterfall down the steep hill was really dusty and it was a bit intimidating to go down. Fell and got a few scrapes and bruises, but definitely worth it.
We took a hike up to Stewart Falls. It was a fairly easy hike with the Falls at the end. It is a bit too popular as there were too many people there.
Decent parking with a vault toilet, but no water, so bring what you need.
Great access to some of the best hiking in Utah!
Only cool place to be on a day like today.
This was such a fun hike! It wasnt hard but definitely going to feel it later
This is my FAVORITE hike in the Utah county area. Its about a 4 mile hike one way to a waterfall. There is a good mix of uphill and downhill, and plenty of shade from the pines and quaking aspens. It is a beautiful hike, lots of flowers and plants. Its also a dog friendly trail if your dog is on a leash. There is sometimes a parking fee, only $6 per car. This is usually during summer months.
Wonderful place for a hike with stunning views, had a great time with my girlfriend its a really fun. It can be long or difficult for some people so get ready for it. The falls isnt the best part of the trail. I went in summer so I would definitely recommend going in that season.
Beautiful hiking area, stewart falls is a classic. Definitely worth going
Beautiful hikes from here. Stewart Falls, Timpanogas Falls, and you can go all the way to the summit of Timpanogas.
It was a beautiful trail in winter. I should give 5 stars. However, I rated one star because I want everyone to be careful avalanches. It happened at least 5 times avalanches on Feb 2 in the afternoon. Unfortunately, Thank was my friend’s dog fell into waterfall which was covered by ice and snow. The hole was collapsing. We’re very thankful for Utah County Rescue Team to rescue dog after 7 hours. The dog stayed in the hole 50 feet depth. There’s a ledge in the hole so the dog stayed there without cold water. Than every hiker helped us, including helping us to check the dog, asking for help.PLEASE DON’T GO NEAR ICE WATERFALL in winter.
A little steep at times, ricky toward the end, but easy enough for my 9 and 12 year old.
Great spot to access some of the best hiking and camping in Utah county and the Uintah National Forest. The trails are kept up and the signage is easy to read and find. The only downer is the toilets. They smell like a full grown moose died in a sauna 3 weeks ago. Not sure if there is anything you can do about that. When you gotta go you gotta go. Access to Stewart falls was lovely today.
Pretty easy to occasionally moderate 2 mile hike with some great views to some wonderful waterfalls. Supervised children should make it just fine most all of the way. Great family hike just minutes outside of orem.
One of my favorite trails in Utah County. Waterfalls all the way up to Emerald Lake.
Beautiful Water Fall, hiking trail is moderately easy, best time to go is during summer for you will be able to refresh your self after your long hike.
Great moderate hike. It takes about 45 to 60 minutes one way. Youll spend about 20 minutes eating a snack or taking pictures so round trip is about 2 to 2 1/2 hours if you are starting from trail head where Timpanogos trail head is. There are other ways to get to the falls if you are staying at the resorts.
Great for snowshoeing in the winter...but be sure to check avalanche conditions first! Also, it can be hard to follow the exact trail if theres fresh snow.
This is the best hike Ive been on in Utah! Super easy and youre rewarded the an amazing waterfall!!
Even if its a small hike. Its a beautiful area in the snow
The trail is absolutely beautiful, as are the falls. The hike isnt too strenuous, but isnt a cake walk either, and there are some options at the end to go climbing and adventuring if you so desire.
I actually really LOVE it, but it is so busy! Make sure you go early to avoid crowds. We started at 9 on a Sunday. Definitely picked up by the time we got back to the FULL parking lot at 10:30. 8am or earlier would have been much quieter. It is US Forest land so plan to pay $6. Well worth it to keep the land maintained!
It is beautiful take time to go up it
Gorgeous but horribly crowded. A relatively easy hike.
Great simple hike. Great reward at the end..
Although this is rated easy, I would say it’s more moderate. There are steep inclines both on the way there and the way back. Plus, it’s more of a day hike. If you’re bringing kids, keep in mind it can take anywhere from 2-5 hours to complete. We brought our baby with us in a carrier and he was suuuuuper done the whole way back. Also, the trail is super dusty—I think because it’s so heavily trafficked.
Beautiful trail with a gorgeous waterfall at the end!! Pretty easy hike especially if you start in the morning. Dogs are allowed on this trail and we met several awesome furries throughout the trail.
Great trail. I have 4 kids. The 8 year olds did this with no problem. But my 4 and 2 year old struggled. I had to carry them all the way back. Waterfall was beautiful. Some parts of the hike was rocky and difficult for my kids but other then that an easy trail for the family.
Beautiful hiking area, so packed!
Great Trail. We went on March 7 and the trail was covered in snow but we did it with a baby.
This was wheres we started our 2 mile Journey to Stewart Falls. I am not a strong hiker but I was able to make the trip without much difficulty. It was well worth the effort. The Falls were amazing!
This place had a great little hike perfect for all ages! The views are are amazing and the waterfall is way cool! Beware however, I cut my toe pretty badly on the rocks under the fall. Make sure to wear shoes if you want to do that. Overall a great place!
Great hike. From the aspen grove trailhead its about four miles round-trip. It has some ups and downs, but its mostly just traversing along to the falls. Not too much elevation gain if there is any at all.To get to the upper portion of the falls, most people try to climb the slippery rock slide area. However its a lot easier to just get closer to the actual lower falls and then hike up to the right. The footing is still kind of iffy though once you get to the upper area so I wouldnt recommend it to those who arent sure of themselves. There are also what appear to be some natural springs as well over to the sides. Ive drank from them every time I go up.
Great hike. Not too hard. Views are beautiful. Totally worth it.
Did a quick hike to Stewart falls and it was beautiful! Lots of trees so the hike was pretty shaded, and we got to see a moose as well as other wildlife along the trail. Parking lot had plenty of space; even though there were quite a few people there when I went. The bathrooms were pretty well kept.
Super pretty trail to a dope waterfall, make sure you have enough pull chord if youre going to repel it though
A lovely alpine loop treasure. The theatre in the pines was a surprise with a very accessible amphitheatre. The only disappointment was to see how many mature Aspen tree trunks have been vandalized over the years with thoughtless carvings into the wood.
Fantastic place to cycle!
Beautiful nature walk. Its about 2 miles to go and 2 miles to get back. I went with my parents who are in their mid sixties. My dad was fine with the trail because he is fiscally fit, but my mom struggled big time. I have seem parents with kiddos and they seem to be ok. The waterfalls were beautiful!
It was a nice hike with beautiful water fall, just too many people at the time we went.
It was gorgeous driving through the Alpine Loop today. So many different colors with the changing leaves! But please, everyone remember the Alpine Loop is basically a single lane road and for everyone to slow down and share the road!
The 38 mile scenic byway is well worth the trip. Incredible aspen forest near the top. Payson Lakes campground has very nice campsites as well as wilderness camping all along the route.
Great family friendly, beautiful trail.
Stuart Falls is a great hike even for smaller children. I got in with my Annual Parks Pass, otherwise there is an entrance fee. Parking was packed, but that was likely due to the holiday weekend.
Beautiful fairly easy hike. 2 miles to the falls making for a 4 mile round trip hike. The majority of the hike is pretty level with only minor inclines. Right before the falls the hike gets a little rocky and a little steep but this is only for maybe 1/4 of a mile. The falls is beautiful and has a nice mellow stream you can play in.
We hiked to Stewart Falls and had a great time! There were lots of people on the trail, but that didnt bother me it anyone in my group. We took food with us and enjoyed making lunch when we got to the falls. The scenery was so beautiful. Well definitely do this hike again!
The trail doesnt give you head, but nice dirt.
One of my favorite hikes
This is a great place to hike. Busy on the weekends but that’s to be expected.
So beautiful and yet its a very mild hike. They are dog friendly so that makes it that much better! So glad I found this trail!
I dont know about the hiking, but u love this trail for biking from the spring until the fall. And I always have to stop and take a picture at the falls.
Awesome place for a hike, whether your going solo, on a date, or with family!
I was cycling and out of water. The trail head has the best water! Plus the beauty up there is absolutely phenomenal.
Nice place to start Stewart or Timp. Avoid weekends and evenings if you dont want a crowd.
Amazing hike, Aspen Grove is so pretty, an incredible hike, whether all the way to the top of Timp, or just partially, I highly recommend it.
This is a beautiful trail. This is a well traveled trail and accommodates all level of hikers. At the end of the hike there is a beautiful waterfall.
Its 3.8 miles in and out. The first half of the trail is through tree cover. Its a bit rough (rocky) in some points. We have an 8, 7, and 5 year old. They needed some rest along the way but they made it. I would highly recommend it.
I havent actually gone up the trail but Ive been to the parking lot and shot pictures from up there including some night pictures. Its a very spectacular setting.
Cute place to get outside with ease. While this is the advantage of is also the disadvantage as it is well visited and nearly impressive to get away from everything to be alone with your thoughts.
Beautiful hike, lots of great nature. Well-kept. Very fun.
What a wonderful time I had drinking water from the waterfall
Took my Scouts camping here. We had a great time!
Easy trail even in the winter. With a beautiful scenic views on the trail and at the waterfall.
Excellent short hike for families. Incredable views from the top.
Amazing hiking
Great family hike. Super easy and the falls are beautiful. Lots of kids and dogs. Super busy on holidays and weekends.
April 27. It was a beautiful day to be in the mountains. There is still a lot of snow so be prepared for that if you are going hiking. Also dont forget the sunscreen. I got a little fried.
This hike is beautiful. But today just went to admire the scenery and snow.
Hiked Timpanogos up to Emerald Lake. Uncle nearly died. I nearly died. The drive home was the worst part. Wont be doing it again for probably a long time. Or ever. More steep and technical than I generally prefer my hikes to be. VERY pretty sights though.
This great I love it thing love hang out with my friends
Great hike for our scout troop.
Gorgeous area! So much beauty to explore and only a 15 minute drive up the canyon!
Good trail except for the last couple hundred feet. Treacherous.
Beautiful views and amazing hikes to take.
Normally an awesome place. Waterfall is awesome and the water seeps out all over from the wall of mossy rock. Beautiful in my opinion. Too snowy right now to hike. Did not 1/3 of the way today. Dang it! Was hoping to see the frozen falls.
I loved hiking Timpanogos. Beautiful scenery for a fairly punishingly difficult climb...the 5 million switchbacks were worth the trudging along.
I got to the parking lot at 7pm and not 1 vehicle was there. We hiked up to Timp Falls and then to Stewart Falls. Foot traction is mandatory or you wont enjoy the trails of ice.
