Capitol State Forest is a beautiful place to get back to nature; there are trails, primative campgrounds, small streams and off-road vehicle trails. At times there are some rather unsavory characters out there though, so I recommend taking protection and leaving valuables at home if you cant carry them with you should you leave your vehicle for any amount of time.
Capital forest is a beautiful place to visit. The wildlife and the beautiful clean and clear rivers are why I come here, I photograph all the beauty around me. Eagels flying over me and deer first thing in the morning is a great site to see. I bathe in the rivers,no there not that cold there a little chilly but I feel great after my bath in them. I must admit that night time can be a little scary if your alone but its safe. Its easy to get lost in this big forest so have a map of the area beforehand because theres dead zones in some areas,no phone service. This place feels like home to me, I feel at peace when Im here.
Excellent forest. Top of the line trees and all around nature. Perfect design and build execution - I think this forest is going to be around for quite some time.
It was wonderful and fun. The quad trails and berries are very special and I am quite grateful to have this so close to our home. The hosts were kind and caring and very helpful. It was a much needed time away from our home. Thank you.
Great place to get off the beaten path and become one with nature! My kids love coming here to go on hikes, drives, camping, berry picking, and other adventures. Ive set up multiple treasure hunts for them over the years and we always have a good time!
This has always been one of my favorite places in Washington.
Love going to Capitol Forest. Lots of trails to drive around on. Watch out for the homeless. It can become a weird place at night.
I love going up here to enjoy nature!
Fun trails to explore great views and close to Little Rock, Olympia and Rochester. Excellent for four wheeling.
This has been one of my favorite forests since getting here. However, it seems the trash has taken over, and no one honestly cares. Beware, people shoot at anything and everything out there, and my girlfriend and I almost got caught up in something while out viewing the comet. Will not return until this forest is made safer.
Was awesome weather, could do 60 on the dirt roads because it to many weekend warriors there yet! And was with a hot chick that was gathering what the woods gave us even a new dented up fender on my yota runner!
It would be 5 stars if jerks would stop dumping their garbage all over the place. My family took home 4 bags today and it still wasnt enough. The place is beautiful otherwise. Great place to chill for the day.
Beautiful area. Found a nice place to camp on Rock Candy Mountain since Middle Waddle Campground was full.
Beautiful area, lots of trails and forest roads to explore and plenty of room to spread out from others.
Beautiful drive, nice trails.
This place is the best place too off road just watch for other drivers as you share the road.great place to get away from the world an there is sooooo many trails you can off road an some you can get out an walk alittle. trails arnt to hard but can still be dangerous.Watch for wild life too because they are around as well. Over all the best place i have been for lots of different trails.
Why else? Its the forest! A bit crowded during summertime but still a great hike and beautiful setting.
Grew up in this forest and have always loved coming back to visit
Love the riding there. Cut todays ride short due to an arterial bleed from stich es being pulled out
Decent hiking trails if you live in the area. I went out here early in the spring and didnt come across any mountain bikers. The trails are shared between hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikes. The bikes are only allowed uphill so it shouldnt be that big of a Hassel if you do come across someone on a bike. The trail I hiked wasnt wide enough to hike side by side for the majority of it. I did 10.5 miles in just less than 4 hrs. The climb in elevation didnt seem bad at all.
Great place to play with the polaris
I only saw a small portion of this park riding the annual Poker Run they do every year. But it was enough to entice me to want to come back, camp and ride during the open season. Theres so much more to explore and so many more trails to ride. Great for motocross and ATV plus some areas of the forest have campgrounds. I will definitely be back to explore this amazing park again and again!
Porter Creek campground was great, lots of quad trails, people friendly, one person in our group lost her phone, a motorcycle rider found it and asked other camper if they had lost a phone so she got it back, very quiet at night, was pleasantly surprised, will go here again
These pictures are from Mima falls! Hiked about 2 miles in from the trailhead. A really easy going hike.
ATV trails are awesome!!!, take a buddy
If I could I would live there right off the trail. Awesome trails at all skill levels, beautiful views, good times.
Beautiful scenery and a great place to explore trails and camp out with friends. This forest has some of the best views Ive ever seen.
Had a great time on a very well kept (that is for a dirt bike trail!) trail system. Extensive trail system only got to a few; rock candy, Waddell basin West, twin peaks, and Divide North. Parking lot has honey buckets and lots of space for trailers.
The riding here is fairly technical, but there seems to be plenty of trails for everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed the single tracks that varied greatly from location to location, and the views were unbeatable. The trails can be very rocky and full of clay. Be prepared to slip and slide around!
Great locations to hike around and do some outdoor shooting. Wonderful views of mountains and forests. Also great for camping. Be sure to have GPS or a map. You can get lost if youre not careful.
Always fun but very crowded
We love escaping to Capitol State Forest. The views are breathtaking. You can drive miles and see no one. Its a great place for solitude, whether two-tracking, hiking, biking, or camping.
Great place to get outdoors with great views. If you target shoot or camp, please pack out what you use/shoot. I always come back with way more than I take with me. Bring a trash bag and dont be lazy.
Offroad paradise!
Beauty as far as the eye can see. Great for hiking and wildlife spotting
Beautiful views and peaceful. Must have a Discover Pass
Beautiful place to get out of the city without having to drive very far.
Quadding and camping!!! Cant be better then that! Large camp grounds at no cost! The best place ever!
My family has been coming here to hunt for generations, in recent years the hunter population has made it a bit overcrowded but the forest itself is as beautiful as ever.
Been twice, with plans for many more visits. Havent encounted any issues. The logging roads are clean, with many places to stop and shoot where allowed. Cant wait to visit again!
A great place to camp, walk, relax.
Lots of trails for all levels! Beautiful scenery, from thick lush forest to serene lake/river beaches and dont forget the hundreds of waterfalls. ️️️
A nice forest for the Olympians, Centralians, and Elmanians. Well maintained trails, but with the disadvantages that come with the fact its a state FOREST, not a state park. With the gun ranges and motorbikes zooming through and making commotion, the natural atmosphere is ripped away.
Fun for my first time....
Love Capitol forest! Great place to hike, pick mushrooms, ride atvs, or just hang out in the woods and appreciate nature.
Nature at its finest.
Beautiful, and available to the people. As it should be
Just out riding ATVs for the day. Just a wonderful!
Very green and beautiful.
Went up to MIMA Falls and didnt even make it to the falls LOL this place is great. Grab a trail and get to hiking! Theres no shortage of places you can go and things you can see. Be prepared to share the trail with horses, runners and bikers.
We went here for My wife. She had classmates camping that she hadnt seen in almost 40 years. The park was big, but easy to navigate. The scenery was Absolutely stunning. The evergreens were majestically tall and beautiful. The campsites were laid out nicely and spaced for privacy, all had picnic tables. We spent the day visiting and never got interrupted. It was totally serene. This is a Great family park and campground. Two thumbs up!
Awesome trails, beautiful sights, and great place to take photos!
Great hot pastrami sandwich
It sucked we had tree huggers stopping our work
Needs a lake or river for fishing and it would be perfect
Absolutely love it beautiful drive
Nice hike not too difficult
Nice forest they keep the trails clean as possible.
Great trails but beware when its wet. The clay mud is quite slick.
Huge place, still exploring it haha I live down the road and love this forest. It has roads through it, camping spots, great places to go shooting, you can go hiking here I mean this place is awesome. Last time we went we went shooting with a couple of new friends before they moved and it was a great time and they even showed us a new spot we had never been to!
Beautiful free public land!!!
Great place to go hang or use an off-road vehicle.
Greatly maintained main roads and spurs. The trails could use a wee bit more maintaining but it is that time of year where maintenance is much more difficult. VERY VERY disappointed theres not designated offroad 4x4 trails and pits
Easy access, campgrounds, beautiful forest!
Great place to explore the outdoors. Ive seen lots of deer here. Ive been here a lot also. You will need a Discover pass. The road system is very good. You can drive for days. Google maps works very well here. Use it. It is easy to get turned around. Fill up the tank before you go.
If we could leave at least a few of the tree Still Standing that be pretty handy but other than that its the best place ever
Amazing park with great trails
Absolutely beautiful!
Great place to escape the city life
Not too crowded, trail well maintained, beautiful scenery
Nice area to explore. Most of the time nice in quiet deeper in but then gets ruined with the noise of the ATVs and dirt bikes. Dont get me wrong Id love to be out there doing that too. I usually air down some on the dirt roads just to make it smoother but its not needed at all
Great mixed use trail. We rode bikes and we saw horses and hikers too. Its a nice easy trail.
Awesome place to explore.
The place is huge. I take my truck up there to go off-road; there are plenty of hiking, biking, and equine trails too, however. Gorgeous views.
Wide open spaces, steep cliffs, highly recommend!
Ive been going to Capitol forest my entire life. Theres so many places to go, miles and miles of quad trails, walking/bike trails and the scenery is just incredible. I recommend you know your way around before you try to explore too much. Very easy to get lost if you do not know the areas. Please respect people riding horses if you encounter them.
Lots of beautiful views once you get up high. We love cruising in our public lands
Most roads well maintained. Beautiful forested area with trails for hiking, motorcycles, and horses. And of course mountain bikes! Lots of trails, marginal trail markings, bring a map or some one that knows the area. You can easily spend all weekend here on vehicle of choice and not get bored with the trails.Do be careful on roads and trails, they are best enjoyed sober! No. Not my vehicle!
This is a good spot to go to Target practice as theres a number of places to go that offer a safe place to sight in your pistols and rifles without risking hitting anyone or having your bullets travel to kingdom come. Discover pass is required to allow access.
Nice wide trail, well marked.
Good place to get drunk with the bois
Fun loop out to Mima Falls. Perfect easy afternoon stroll. Very mild hike and flat trail, but beautiful!
Hella pretty
Best forest in Washington state love it out here you can do as you like as far as target shooting hiking hunting fishing bike riding both dirt and peddle horse backing to just a nice picnic ! Couple years ago we seen a really nice looking bear who stood up to look at us fro. The bottom of a landing we where a top he had a huge white heart on his chest it was really cool i snagged a couple pics and he walked off! All in all its a great place to spend a day!
No service, loud rude campers, disgusting bathrooms
Great place to run our dogs
One of my favorite places to ride and hike. Camping at Middle Waddle Creek makes it so convenient.
One of my most favorite places to ride quads, hunt and just enjoy the outdoors. Always clean too.
Great place to visit beautiful views and lots to do hiking mountain biking or riding your dirt bikes. Any type car can make it up.
Endless photo opportunities. Great trails, beautiful accessible view points, roads well maintained and very well marked. Is my favorite escape.
Fun to see the salmon and hike the trail. Very clean, trails are taken care of
