Need more mooring Buoys. Other than that I was good. We were there in November
This island was stolen from my tribe have fun tarnishing my andsesterd for a good kick
Puget Sound paradise. Hope Island State Park is exclusively open for canoers and kayakers to camp on. My kids and I make it out here in the canoe every year. Its an adventure worth repeating year after year. The thrill of exploring the Sound in a canoe and then exploring the island doesnt get old. This is the preserved beauty of the Puget Sound.
The only way to this island is by boat... unless you like to swim. I did a little research online on where to put a kayak in to boat across. I came across a place near Steamboat Island but to my surprise when I arrived it was all private property. I did find a park, Frye Cove County Park with water access but it is a long paddle from there to Hope Island. Boston Harbor is also another option with access to water but plan on a longer paddle time just to the island. What I did find is a further drive west and further north but very well worth it. Drive to Arcadia Point and there is a public boat launch that seats close to Hope Island. A very easy paddle across the inlet.Once at Hope Island enjoy the scenery by paddling around the island and watch the wildlife feed from your kayak. I watched racoons feed on fish, one herron caught several fish as we were passing by. At low tide I got the joy of watching clams squirt the water out of their holes. On the island is a nice easy hike all around the island. Highly recommend you pack a lunch and have enjoy the views across the water from the old homestead. Mt Rainier is also visible on sunny days. I do love the fact NO PETS are allowed on the island. Dogs are part of the wolf family and dog pee smells the same as and wildlife will disappear from the scent of it. Also, no fires are allowed on the island whatsoever. So bring a lunch that requires no heat to cook it with. There are restrooms on the island but no running water. Bring plenty of water and juice for your adventure. Camping is 12 bucks a night and the camp sites amd restrooms are nice... extremely nice for primitive camping. Enjoy and have fun!!!
Really nice park, lots of trails and beaches between high tides. Accessible only by boat. Boat masters beware of unmarked large underwater rock at lower tides on the SW corner. Keep your eyes on the depth finder
Great place to boat to. Good home on the island and the deer were very friendly. 3 of the 5 state park mooring buoys had tribal fishing boats on them so we had to anchor.
Accessible by marine craft only. Beautiful historical island. Limited camping facilities. No fresh water, camp fires. Pit toilets well maintained. A kayakers dream.
The buoys provided by the park systems are great, but sadly have been reduced in number during recent years
Small, quiet and overnight camping. Popular with kayaks. You need water transportation to visit
Amazing park. Quiet. No electricity, no roads, no running water. Great place to canoe hike around the island and just relax. Pack it in pack it out and enjoy.
Love the remote camping and wildlife
Great place for social distancing
This place is great for day. Really small but cute and great for kids to express. Sorry Rover, no pets : (
Awesome place! Lots of hungry raccoons. Be prepared to fend them off.
Great place to visit and camp. There is a campground reserved only for paddlers. Theres a hiking trail around the perimeter of the island that passes through woods, forests, and a homestead. There are boxes to secure food from raccoons. Beautiful views of islands and mainland. Even though youre only a half mile from the mainland, it feels like youre in the wilderness.
Great soundings, quiet moorage, fun island
Island surround by wadder No like Wadder.
Cool little island in our own backyard.
Great trails
I love going here enjoying nature and beauty!
Took 3 grandsons there for picnic and exploration. Great time was had by all. Island is well maintained yet still mostly natural. Primitive campsite with tables and a latrine. No fires allowed so be sure to being water and a propane stove if you stay there.
Awesome beach for swimming and kayaking (or any other water needs you may have). The marina cafe feels great and has inexpensive drinks and friendly people.
Only accessible by watercraft. We kayaked and camped. There are only a limited number of camp sites, no way to reserve, and it can be busy. We almost didnt get to camp. No open fires. Absolutely beautiful and wonderfully secluded park.
Quiet Anchorage in the South Sound
Fantastic location, only downside is no pets, found 4 mooring buoys but easy to anchor, just watch the tides.
Well maintained trails and restroom. Great views of Mt Rainier
Was a wonderful kayaking experience and visit to the small yet secluded island
I love this park! Such a beautiful island, full of wildlife!
My wife and I kayak there alot. its a great place. there are 2 camp grounds there. we live at carryon beach which is a private community so its easy for us to launch and paddle there. I dont know a easy way to launch from other places but I do see lots of other kayaks from other places paddle to get there. there is a small fee to camp and bring water. there is toilet facilities there. so paddle or sail or power over. its a great place to camp and trails to walk around the island on.
The confusion or strange humor in some other reviews notwithstanding, this is an undeveloped, wild, old-growth forested island in what we call the South Sound region. Its wonderful, because it has remained wild. Not even a dock. Open year-round, and adjacent to the tribal property Squaxin Island, it is somewhat sheltered from most heavy waves (by local standards). Its a great overnight stop for marine trail type kayakers, and has a few mooring anchor/buoys near it for recreational vessels not suitable to beach. Nice short trails. Typical Puget Sound gravelly barnacle beaches. There can be surprisingly strong currents in the area with certain tidal action and winds, but not exactly rips.
Splendid
The end of January beginning of February very quiet .come by boat and enjoy the winter time in Washington State
Awesome island you can camp on with lots of friendly wild life
It has 5 buoys for cruisers. However, they are very exposed to the SW winds and can get very rough. Lots of kayakers spending the night on the island. I gave it 3 stars because it is too busy with power boats running around.
This is an awesome place to exscape to for the day or the weekend but has the potential to be crowded at times.
Nice secluded place accessible by boat only!
It a beautiful island.
I love it can I spend a year there
Amazing
A gem for boat in only day or camp trips
So beautiful!
Very pretty
