Very nice memorial. Spent time here in the 80s as a submariner. Was nice to come back for a visit and see the memorial.
.My dad was a sailor. Really glad I got pictures for him. It was a great day!
A historic place that has been taken by private contractors and shiprepair. Nothing like it use to be when the navy ran it. major disrepair.
A nice memorial that is very informative. It is on the edge of the North Charleston Riverfront Park and designed creatively. You get a feeling for the real people that served there. What was as interesting as the actual memorial was the residential area for officers. The housing there was started in 1909. The Admirals resident and the Commandants quarters which also housed the administration building were both mansions. They are started to refurbish all these older homes. The one that looks complete looks fabulous from the outside. It looks like it will be used for events. I rode my bicycle all around the area several times. It was a great place to ride. If you walk then it would be a pleasant walk. The trees are huge and it is almost totally in shade.
Beautiful park to visit
It was a pleasant educational experience. I learned a great deal about the Navys presence in Charleston.
Beautiful little spot. They have a fountain and play grounds for the kids. There are events out here on a regular basis. Some of the best sun rises in the lowcountry. If its mosquito season, be sure to wear bug repellent.
Charming little area with a lot of great local history about the presence of the Navy in North Charleston and the contributions of the region.
Such a beautiful relaxing place.
MM 2 Lyndal D Williams, served on the USS Jesse L Brown and USS Simon Lake 1975 to 1978. In Ship yard Simon Lake 1977. Loved Charleston area. Last time in Charleston 1980.
Great place to walk and view the river.
I was stationed in charleston, aboard the uss charles f. adams ddg-2. i so much remember pier papa (P) and i also remember entering the harbor passing the docked mine sweepers... there were a few times i went to the base pub. was ok. the bands played too much beatles crap... loli really enjoyed downtown charleston. every time i had the weekend off, a few of us would rent and share a room across from the citadel... the managers only request was that all of us didnt use the pool at the same time since only one paid for the room...............(too funny)i very much remember the three nags saloon where they had a record player and you could use both their records or ur owni saw man walk on the moon in shortys pub, on the strip, just outside the base gate...another memorable moment was when we saw a hells angels girl walk by...my friends said look at that...i said probly a lesbian.................she decked me............................OMGfinally..............for years i drove limousine in nyc for nbc/universal/the today show.... one of my passengers was from charleston.... i was remenicing when she said that it was her dad who owned all of the taxi cabs outside of the base gate.THE END..........peace
So beautiful and a hidden gem!
There is a water area at the start of the park where kids can play in. Follow the memorial path by following the man-made reflecting stream that guides your journey.
