The North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum and Educational Center is a great place to visit and learn about firefighting and fire safety. The museum has a lot of cool exhibits, place to play, and things to climb on. This is a awesome place for kids and adult kids to have fun and do something that will teach important lessons that could one day save many lives. I have had a great experience every time I have been here and look forward for the chance to come back again.
This is a real treat for the kids. My twelve year old remained engaged through the interactive true/false “quiz” and my four year old loved everything- especially the fire pole. Our kids learned a lot while having fun. The price of entry made The Fire Museum a top choice on our trip. I would recommend this experience to anyone and everyone!
This Museum exceeded what we expected! Definitely will come back with our children!
Great place for fire trucks. Kids love fire trucks. Has a fire truck simulator that kids can drive
Very cool display of historical fire engines. Lots of interactive learning displays for kids!
This is so much fun for all ages. We had a group ages 18 to 57. We were not disappointed. Thank you to all the helpful and courteous staff.
An amazing collection of fire fighting equipment in pristine condition. The museum is well laid out, has great staff and very inexpensive admission. A wonderful adventure for all ages.
If your a FD family you will love this place. The old Fire trucks are beautiful. There is stuff for the kids tyo do also.
Great class trip for the little ones kindergarten class! The guide was able to make the experience and material appropriate for a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds.
I visited here with my family and everyone had a great time. The kids loved the badge maker and especially the virtual fire truck emulator. They played in it several times. They also enjoyed the playground in the middle of the museum as well. There are several fire trucks on display dating back to the 1800s. Lots of fun and leaning here plus it isnt super expensive!
This place is amazing ! Alot of history on fire trucks
Great museum had alot of nice old fire trucks. Was a great place.
We brought our two young grandsons. ...and they had a blast! They especially loved climbing up the big ladder to the platform and then sliding down the firemans pole! What a great place to visit!
The actual collection of fire engines and the informative portion is great for kids, however the staff was kind of rude and abrasive. The gift shop was closed when we came in over an hour before they closed the museum. There was an assortment of interactive exhibits, but half of them seemed to not be working. Not as much to see as I had expected so it was kind of underwhelming. There werent any instructions on how to operate the simulations. The fire pole and slide were cool but honestly if the fee wasnt included in my Charleston one pass, I probably wouldnt have come and unless in the future Im bringing toddlers, I probably wont come back.
Great tribute to fire history and those who serve. Also, good education for safety.
Great couple of hours for the toddler, learned about fire safety, drove a fire truck sim, play on the ladder and pole play area, see a bunch of awesome fire trucks and experienced some local history.
This place was great for our 2 year old. He was obsessed with the fire engine simulator. There is enough info and history here to keep an adult entertained while watching his or her children.
The old fire trucks are amazing. My 13 & 8 year olds really loved it.
The vehicles they have there are in awesome shape. They utilize technology to get the fire safety message across to all ages. Very well done.
One of its kind and very knowledgeable open minded guide helped us through the history of fighting in US. You will not see it anywhere else in US.
Would be a great school field trip for children. Really had some impressive exhibits here. Lots of shopping and eaterys nearby.
Very cool! Lots of old extremely well maintained engines. Lots of stuff to keep the kids entertained. There is a slide and fire pole to slide down.$6 per adult and kids under 12 free. Good couple of hours
Very cool, they have some good activities for kids and lots of history to read about for the adults!! One of the displays dated back to the 1800s. Most were early 1900s.
FANTASTIC!!! A lot of money went into this educational and entertaining attraction. The museum boasts the largest collection of American LaFrance frie engines in the world. They are not kidding. Their collection includes a side stroke manual pumper and FOUR steam pumpers! Big deal when you know that there are only 50 known steam operated fire engines left in the entire United States. Downside? Right in the middle of the establishment is a play area for the little ones. Having no kids of my own, I could do without that. Would I return in the future? Very possible. Lastly, there is a place set up to host birthday parties.
Great for fire apparatus fans and kids alike. An amazing display of patches from around the world ... and American LaFrance fire engines over the decades. Great educational tools for kids. Well done and inexpensive.
It teaches children so much
Very cool little museum near the Tanger Outlet Mall in North Charleston. My four-year-old throughly enjoyed seeing all of the old firetrucks on display. There is also a slide and fire man pole to slide down inside. Would highly recommend this attraction!
It was nice and quiet. Very informative with a couple of interactive exhibits. A simulator and some shows for the younger audience. Admission was reasonable at 6$ for an adult(dont have any type of heritage pass or anything when I went, they have special museum passes though) and I am overall quite glad I went.
For toddlers go right at 4 before they do last admission. It will be quiet and u can do the simulator and touch screens as much as your tot wants! Otherwise its better for older kids who can read.
Didnt realize they charged an admission fee. Otherwise probably wouldnt have checked it out. It was interesting to see someone of the trucks and skits on fire safety. Being in the fire service for 30 plus years it was somewhat interesting to see.
This is a magical place!
Great place to take the kids. The staff was very friendly. We spent hours there, even though it is a small facility.
Great place. Worth all of $6 per adult! My son also loves it.
Wish they just had a little more to do for like kids.. Had not changed in forever
As soon as I knew there was a fire museum, I had to go. Being the daughter of a firefighter, Ive always loved the trucks. The simulator is fun and we even found a Tennessee patch on the wall! I cant wait to take my son when hes old enough.
This is a must see if you are interested in fire fighting history
This place is awesome for learning more about the history of firefighting and the simulations/games are wonderful and teach children about firefighting. The simulation of the causes of fires is very interactive and will teach everyone something about preventing fires.
Really fascinating and fun museum!! They have about 10 or so fire trucks from the entire last century, which are all very well kept. The staff is exceptional and the guide is very engaging and professional. I learned a lot that I would not have otherwise known. Its a pretty compact museum- I got through the entire museum in about 30 minutes. It would probably be great for a brief trip with the kids. There is a machine where you can build your own badge and a fire truck simulator- which are fun for everyone. Its very refreshing to get a quality history lesson without much controversy.
Beautiful restored Fire Fighting Equipment
Fun and educational for kids and adults both
Was fun and a great learning experience for the kids. Had a blast and will definitely be coming back.
This is a nice place to take kids or if you’re into fire trucks. A lot of different styles of fire trucks displayed from throughout the last century. There are also some interactive activities for the kids. It’s nice they also have a Charleston visitor center in the same building.
My wife and I brought our two grandchildren ages 5 and 3 to the Fire Museum on a Thursday morning. We weren’t sure what to expect, but after spending two hours walking around the exhibits and viewing the dioramas we give the museum an enthusiastic 5 star rating. The exhibits of antique fire engines and antique and modern firefighting equipment are very well done. There are informative placards for all the exhibits, and although you can’t touch the immaculately restored fire engines you can get close enough to admire the craftsmanship that was part of their construction. The kids’ favorite parts were the fire engine simulator, the fire station pole and the household fire safety diorama. It is no exaggeration to say that the dioramas are done at the Disney park level or better. The staff were friendly and helpful. They gave the impression that they really like their work/service at the museum. We highly recommend a visit to the Fire Museum for young and old alike.
Great displays, very nice selection of old fire trucks. We had a great time.
First time here today with my 2 kids and I highly recommend. Cheapest way to kill some time and to learn a lot at the same time. Their simulator is fabulous,my son ride it a few times, and the little show what they have about fire safety is amazing. We love it!
What an outstanding collection of restored fire apparatus. Make time before your flight out of Charleston to spend some time there.
Great for family with young kids. Hands on activities. Fire prevention shows. Amazing collection of firetrucks. You really get to experience what its like to be a firefighter. $6 per adult kids 12 and under free.
Its been a great place to see the history of fire engine services of USA.
I took my family here years ago and we had a great time. We need to go back real soon.
Beautiful place to visit
Great way to learn about fire saftey for kiddos, and the vintage trucks are fascinating for all ages. The Museum is small, but we still were there almost 2 hours.
Everyone should love this place!!! My grandsons 4-12 loved it
We had a great time in this museum. The staff was very informative and made us feel welcome. We enjoyed seeing the different fire trucks and how beautifully they were restored.
Went for a birthday party and had a blast.
For the space, they can pack it in. The history of fire trucks and to see how beautiful they made them back when. To learn about fire and see ways to protect yourself, the best ways you can from it is always enlightening. They do a great job in showing what it means to be a fire fighter.
Great for kids and adults alike! So affordable too.
Awesome place. Great place for kids. Educational and interactive activities.
This is a great place to take young children. They have a fire truck simulator that the kids can drive. They can print out a sticker with their name for free. There is even a slide that they can go down.
Great museum! The kids loved the interactive displays!!
Its a family place to work love it
Our visit was amazing, from the hands on displays to the playground. My kids had so much fun we went two days in a row
This is a great place to bring your budding fire fighters. My 7yo son loved it. I did too, we had a great time!
Great place, kids 5 and 2 loved it. Fire engine you could pretend to drive with moving screen and siren was the best.
Fun, informative, affordable. Recommended.
Inexpensive museum that was perfect for my toddlers, older child, and adults. Interactive and educational. I wish it was a little bigger. Definitely worth a visit and again great price!
Great place to visit, the kids loved it, the staff was great
Fun and educational. Friendly staff, clean facility. Recommended for any age!
Pretty cool place if youre into fire fighting and its history. You can probably get through the whole place in less than an hour, but there are some presentations available.
LOTS of beautiful history here very neat for kids and adults, explains a lot about firefighting that your average person wouldnt usually know.
Best place to visit the fire museum
This is a cool place. Got the t-shirt and the memories.
Its a really good place to take kids who are interested in firefighting and even adults who want to learn about firefighting history.
My son cant wait to go back
Well kept museum and I would say worth going to for any age. I was kept interested by the various fire trucks on display and the history behind them. My 6 and 3 year old enjoyed the real fire truck you could get in, the fire pole and slide, as well as the interactive displays. Weve been there a couple times and average about 2hrs there.
Always a good place to see some history.
Amazing place! My kids enjoyed it and learned a lot about fire safety! The collection and history of fire trucks is amazing.
Interesting!I highly suggest if you want to be pleasantly surprised by the level of dedication and bravery.
Great for families of all ages. There are lots of old fire trucks to see. There is a slide for kids to play on as well as an interactive area for everyone.
Interactive exhibits, personalized stickers and a punch card quiz were just a few of our favorite features of this museum! Very well done. My kids loved it and learned a lot!
My 3 boys love this museum. First of all, there are tons of different kinds of fire trucks to look at. Theres a play area with a big slide and a fireman pole. Theres a lot of interactive stuff including a fire truck simulator. Theres a interactive video/ movie theater. Its very informative for both adults and children. And you cant beat the cost because kids under 13 are free! Adults only $6. At least thats been the price all the times weve gone.
Super cool piece of history. Everyone should visit
Great collection of fire truck history. People were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Great place for a few hours of family fun. Great history of fire trucks. Our boys love it. Also has a nice private event area. Price is reasonable.
Great place for kids young and old
If you have any kids with an interest in firefighting/fire engines, this is a fun little museum located right by Tanger outlets in North Chas. Kids are free and adults are $6, so its very inexpensive. Museum is basically one very large room with a chro logical history of various fire engines and examples of them. A couple o teractive exhibits and a large slide/ladder/pole in center keep active ones busy. Warning:. Since goal is fire safety, several of the interactive exhibits mimick fires breaking out in home and may be scary for younger ones-they have warnings posted and its easy to walk away if it happens
They have done a great job to this place. Love it
Great day out $6 admission for adults 12+ free under that, play area in the middle with sides and poles. Educational exibits for both fire safety as well as fire engine technology.Bathrooms and parking were more than acceptable, modest good shop but did have stuff like bumper stickers and t shirts as well as other gifts.
They have over 20 firetrucks in this building and u walk from oldest to newest. Its sweet seeing all that history right in front of you
Very well done. Very friendly.
Great educational place for kids. Super affordable and accessible.
Very interesting and some good old fire trucks (nice & polished).
Very informative!! entertaining for all ages
Straight forward displays that engage children at every level.
Family Fun Fire Museum
Fantastic collection of fire fighting equipment thru the years. Oldest: bucket brigade hand to hand passing buckets of water. Also, a very small, original looking, water box on wheels. Full of water, rushed to the fire and dumped on it. More trucks showing the evolving types, and animated house interior highlighting danger spots. Best is fire pole and giant slide. Also, Fire truck with guests inside, horns blaring, windshield film shows ride to the emergency buttons to push, wheel to steer. Super place!!
Nice lay out of fire trucks . Small display and great for all ages .
It fun there if like fire truck
