Its a habit when travelling with my love to visit local cathedrals and basilicas. The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Mobile is one of the most beautiful Ive ever seen. The architecture, statuary, and surrounding grounds are incredibly beautiful and the atmosphere inside is positively supernal. Dont miss the stairs down to the smaller chapel / crypt below the main floor, and make sure you visit the statues in the grounds to the left of the main doors. A simply beautiful place and worth a visit.

Fist off I would like to say that the architecture of the building is absolutely amazing. As I walked through the massive hand crafted wooden doors I felt goosebumps on my body. As I continued to explore the building there were so many things that made me feel the history in this immaculate structure. I was moved by not only the architecture but also by the religious history present. I proceeded to light a votive for my mother who is fighting Leukemia. It just so happens that she was getting her routine treatment. When I spoke to her after she got home from her treatment she went on to tell me how long the treatment had taken that day. She said she was exhausted but knew she had to drive herself home that night down dark country roads. She went on to tell me that when she got on the dark roads this bright star appeared and seemed to light the road up for her. She told me that the star shined on the road until she finally made it to the lite highway near her house. This left me speeches since I had not informed her that I lit a candle for her until the next day. I dont know if this was a coincidence or something special happening. Thanks for the opportunity to visit your magnificent building and I look forward to visiting the Church every time I visit Mobile!!

This is such a gorgeous Basilica. I spent so much time looking at the lovely stained glass. They have good Mass and keep it clean and safe

One of Mobiles oldest & most prominent landmarks, the Cathedral is centrally located in the heart of downtown and easy to walk to from just about anywhere. While exploring one day I discovered SO MANY beautiful little things I would have never otherwise noticed...including a semi-hidden winding staircase that led downstairs...to an amazing crypt with many of our citys most prominent priests buried there! Not to mention that the Cathedral partially covers the site of what was known as Campo Santo-the oldest KNOWN cemetery in the Mobile area (sadly, nothing remains...above ground...of this cemetery anymore).

Beautiful place. Only spent about ten minutes praying and had to leave but loved how it looked.

We were rushing to pray and see this beautiful church. The man gently told us he was closing dearly on eve of Thanksgiving, but patiently waited for my praying and photography and quietly said good night in hospitable manner.

Beautiful active Basilica with rich history. Stop in to gaze at the ornate ceiling and surroundings, being sure to notice the deep symbolism. Each stained glass window follows the life of Mary, from Her Immaculate Conception to her glorious Coronation.

Love what theyve done with the grand old place! So great to find participation during Artwalk, a performance by one of the choir members. Very happy to see the ramp and automatic door opener into the left of the three entrances off the porch. Now just need one for the restroom. Always lovely to be in this space and meditate for a bit. Gorgeous interior could only be made better by adding cushions to the pews. Recent redo of the grounds is lovely. Historical tours of the sanctuary and other areas of the building would be wonderful.

Outside is beautiful we were meeting friends for lunch, beautiful park across the street.

One of my favorite places during my short visit to Mobile was the Cathedral of the Immaculatae Conception. I enjoyed saying a prayer on bended knees in the lovely and spritiual setting. The cathedral was open but there was no service. I especially enjoyed walking down the spiral staircase. This cathedreal has beautiful high ceilings and stained glass windows. The interior and exterior are an architectural work of talent. My friend and I were glad that the cathedral doors were open during our visit on Saturday aftenoon so that we could reflect and pray.

This place is awesome and it has the dead priests that used to do mass below in the Crypt

This cathedral is simply breath taking inside and out. The workmanship that went into building this place is overwhelming. The glass stained windows are beautiful and the marble floors/pillars magnificant. There is a crypt under the alter where previous bishops of Mobile are entombed. A must stop for anyone into architecture and history.

Beautiful Church, but there is more to the Faith than architecture and windows. The services are very Novus Ordo, with Lay women, so-called Extraordinary Ministers, distributing Mass even when there is only a handful of people there. Might as well just do away with the Priesthood.

Free street parking on weekends. Building is open to public during daylight hours. We were the only ones inside for about 15 minutes on Saturday morning.
