This was a really lovely experience! Due to Covid, I pretty much had the place to myself on a Wednesday around noon. The collections are well organized and there is a lot of variety. If you dont like whats in one room, just move to the next. Its all worth considering. Three floors situated around a beautiful atrium.During Covid, they are taking your temp at the entrance and the two people I saw were wearing masks. I had to pay admission in the gallery gift shop. Afterwards, I chatted with the security/temp-taking guard and the information desk/admissions lady and they were super friendly and suggested nearby Bake My Day for lunch which didnt let me down! All in all, a very nice time in a beautiful location.
This museum has very nice artwork on display. They currently have a project called do it, which I recommend you see. It has many different artworks that were produced from a basic set of instructions. The neat thing is to see how others interpret the instructions and everyone winds up with the same project but each looks different. Really neat. I would recommend this place to others if youre in the area.
Inexpensive and everyone there was so nice! Can’t wait to come back!
Really nice museum. Great park area around it. 4-5 hours of fun
Helpful friendly staff, very clean, super collections of all forms of art. Could spend several hours going through. Enjoyed so much and cant wait to go back.
Absolutely beautiful museum. I recommend it for a lazy Sunday with family and friends. The staff were very knowledgeable about the exhibits and recommendation on what to look at. The museum was spotless and kept nice a cool. Great place to escape the summer heat. The huge windows offer beautiful natural lighting.
Immaculate experience bro! Check this place out!
From wonderful attractions, paintings, sculptures, and architecture this museum has it all. So humbling to walk through slowly and appreciate the art and artists who put so much time and effort into their craft.
The museum is truly beautiful. It’s not the same though!! I used to go there ALL THE TIME as a teenager and just wander for HOURS. The little cabana outside by the lake was my happy place where I spent so much time listening to music and hanging out with friends or even just alone watching all the ducks and other birds that love the area too. The art has always been fabulously curated, often with collections by extremely talented local artists. I was fortunate enough this fall to get to tour the museum for the first time (I’m really ashamed to admit) since the huge complete redesign. It’s really overwhelming the expansive renovations that have been done. Other than my little gazebo, there really wasn’t much that I recognized. That was really sad but I will say that the place is amazing and I applaud all that the city and the arts alliance have done to make the museum one of THE best attractions in Mobile. The scenic beauty around it that includes amazing hiking and history trails, botanical gardens, the municipal park “Langan Park” lake, the Japanese gardens across the street, and even more attractions within walking distance. I love this place and truly hope it stays here forever!
Great museum, price seemed a little high as it is not a huge museum but there is a lot to see and my daughter lives art so we had a nice time. Not a place we will frequent because of the price . Staff was very friendly and helpful. The museum and the restroom were very clean. We didnt visit the childrens area as it was a separate charge. Nice experience over all.
Had a great time while there. My husband and I went on a Thursday, and we were happy to find out Mobile residents get in free on Thursday. I highly recommend for date night, or a family outing. We will definitely go back again.
We went during an event so entry was free. There were some interesting exhibits and some that just didnt appeal to me. It turns out that the childrens play area costs extra...dont do it. Its a couple rooms and there isnt much there. My wife and I agreed that overall the sculptures outside are more interesting that than the artwork inside. With that said, I enjoyed the items that were not paintings.
Its a very nice museum and the staff have a wheel chair that my mother used! We were going to have to leave due to her foot pains. we were able to enjoy the whole museum and it was a lovely afternoon.
It was great. Id advise you to use the flyers they put out. Its easy to miss a room and miss a lot of great art.
Always unique pieces on display here, from traveling artists and local ones too. Great kids camps and programs here! One gripe is their Asian space plays off outdated stereotypes, so much so that we avoid that area out. This could just be a reflection of a curators choices. Overall, the Museum is a great Mobile addition.
Very nice Museum has so much to offer. The glass sculptures were beautiful and amazing. So much to see and the staff was really lovely.
Went to the kids area, it was really great. I am gping to get a membership. It was relaxing for me and fun for kids. Cant beat that. My son told me in the car ride home how much fun he had
Both the exhibit about Mobiles architectural history and the traveling exhibit are amazing. Theres a landscape by Hiram Williams. Amazing.
Well curated museum with some unique pieces. Worth a visit.
Wonderful collections beautifully displayed and interpreted. And a lovely park setting.
Beautiful setting, interesting building, well thought-out, engaging exhibits
Beautiful variety. Lovely building and grounds.
Beautiful! I was pleasantly surprised about the collection they have here and how it was arranged. The grounds are beautiful too. I was born in Mobile & lived there for many years, but never went to the art museum. I asked my family why they never too us and said it was not a nice as it is now. So worth going! There was a stain glass exhibit that took my breath away! I wanted to live in that room! When my friends ask where and what to visit in Mobile, the art museum will be on the top of my list!
Fun fun fun field trip with 2nd grade from Mary B Austin. take a day and visit tbe museum beautiful exhibits
I absolutely adore this museum. They do a phenomenal job curating their exhibits and keeping them fresh and exciting. Their education department is amazing in both their classes for adults and children. I love their night markets and special events - from performances to witty film viewings, this museum is simply amazing. Mobile is an an amazing city. My only critique is that the museum should have a café and offer adult refreshments to prolong the stay. The museum is small and a patron can go through it pretty quickly. It would be nice to sit and enjoy the surroundings and natural shade if there was an independent café on the grounds.
This is a great place to bring your kids to bring him over here and let him say the art museum Municipal Park fun for the whole family and friends amen
Love this place! So much to see, must make a weekly pilgrimage. Dont miss the seaside installation piece in the front curved gallery. Loved Monica Beasleys mixed media on canvas works. Pared down glass collection for a specially selected grouping chosen by Rachel Wright. Not at all a fan of the dark gray used throughout the area. The mobile-style jellyfish are fun and impactful. Pieces from the permanent collection I had not seen, or dont remember. More silver displayed, with miniatures especially memorable. Current exhibits were so diverse, with Alabama Artists displaying a wide variety of media, most were works on paper or canvas, etc. And few ceramics, sculpture. Loved the salon style display of landscapes, and portraits. Interesting some chairs-on-a-wall exhibit, w/two Eames pieces. Largest gallery of changing work features black/white large scale photography that has a bit of eye trickery. And black/white watercolors leading into those were very subdued. Also art quilts, Asian art and Native American art.
MM of A is totally amazing. Only saw a few exhibits, need to go again to see more.
Very intelligent place have been going since I was younger. Always amazes me.
This museum gets better and better! I loved all the exhibits and the childrens area was fun for my 8 year old. Id definitely recommend visiting.
Great place to visit- theres almost always some interesting exhibits going. The two that most caught my eye this round were the Reflectorama which was very imaginative, and Southern Masters featuring Bruce Larsen (a personal favorite), Nall and Casey Downing Jr.
The museum is located on a very peaceful and scenic site. It is away from all the hustle and bustle. The museum itself seems new and well maintained. It has different areas offering different exhibitions in different medium. The staff is very friendly and helpful. At the time of my visit, it has some Native American art, Asian art, a visual art through video and audio, an art with reflection effect and other traditional art. If you play Pokemon Go, it has several Pokestops and pokemons around.
This is such an important museum for Mobile, Alabama, and the Gulf Coast in general. Very nice and helpful staff and the quality of exhibits is breathtaking.
Great collection of varied art! I toured with a group today that included my young grandson. The docent was great with the mostly senior crowd that we had but was also patient with my grandson, including him in the exploration of the art and the artists. I cant wait to go back again and explore on my own!
I really enjoyed my time here. This place has so much information that you may have to take two trips to really just sit and process our past and where we come from. Id love to be able to go back and learn more about our city.
Nice, clean, calming atmosphere! Very educational.
Art museums really aren’t my thing but they had good well displayed work; no real complaints but I’m really for natural history museums.
Ive only ever been on the outside of the museum. Great for playing pokemon go
It is a very nice art museum
Outstanding. My favorite was the Old Masters, Royalty, soul stirring..
The security gyards followed me around and harassed me. I was just taking notes on some art for a school report, nothing suspicious. Guess they had nothing better to do but Im never coming back.
One of my favorite stops when in Mobile.
This was a family trip for the kids to see some of their own artwork displayed in a real museum. The staff at the museum went out of their way to make all the participants and guest feel at home. They provided light snacks for everyone present. They were nice to the kids and helped everyone get to the exhibit site. They also helped parents navigate around to particular areas of the museum where their child might have pieces displayed. Also, the rest of the museum was open to everyone and it was free. That is an excellent price. This is not a big museum but it has a big heart
A hidden gem! Ive lived in the area all my life, but never visited this museum. Well, I regret that now. Its very impressively done, great exhibits, the layout is well executed and the atmosphere is serene without being clinical. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. Highly recommended for those looking for something to do on a weekend.
Very small but youll see lots of cool stuff its very clean so its amazing
Honestly...their art exhibits are pretty boring. Very disappointed. One exhibit downstairs with huge black and white photographs printed on glass look so real they will totally fool you into thinking theyre real! That was the Only interesting exhibit.
Only saw the ground floor, but it had fantastic art for such a little museum! Loved it all! The only drawback was the strict enforcement of drinks being restricted from the gallery. We couldnt even have a water bottle!
I loved how I was treated by all the ladies working here; however, I wish I could have seen more. I dont think it is for kids even though we visited the childrens exhibit.
I love the art! its so beautiful here and there is lots to do!
There are a number of quality exhibits that provide a good representation of art in the world. The museum is ADA compliant and have resources to move one around if help is needed. Also, there is a childrens area where local Childrens art is displayed. Highly recommended for a family visit. We joined in modern art...lol
Wedding reception at the MOA. Just a gorgeous venue and many photo points available.
Interesting pieces of art. My only complaint is that they charge additional admission to get into the kids section. I think thats unnecessary and kind of gimmicky.
Exhibits havent changed in 3 years and now they charge extra for something Ive already paid for.
Gorgeous. Had lots of local artists
I love to visit The Mobile Museum of Art on Thursdays when they open to the public for free. Their gift shop has many interesting items that are made by local artists which is nice if you want a special gift that is indicative of the area. And what I like most is to walk the grounds and view the outdoor sculptures. It is a repeat visit for me every few weeks.
Surprisingly beautiful landscaping outside. Plenty of local art and interesting shows inside. Kuddos to the curators for being creative. I was happy to see the glass exhibit, usually not a favorite medium of mine. Be sure to stop by the gift shop.
Great place to take the kids to burn off some energy on a rainy day. Cute exhibits
This is a beautiful museum with diverse exhibits. I am grateful to be a member of this Museum and look forward to many new exhibits and Community involvement. This is also a great location to go for an afternoon walk and quiet time to think and reflect surrounded by beautiful art
We had a great time
Well organized, information technology and art rapped up in one.nice people
Informative, the Desk Clerk was very helpful and knowledge about the Museum and Art.
So much Interesting things to see
Free in Thursday’s for mobile county residents and many activities, scenic by walk
Very interesting place and they have a lot of pokestops and Pokemon there
Lots to offer! I love seeing the local work
Not a lot of Art used to be more exciting
Loved it walking outside with art was good to
The cultural jewel of the Gulf Coast. The museum is home to some of the finest works of art by famous artists from all over the world. Class tours for students are exceptional.
The best way for me to describe this place is peaceful. The displays are well put together and they also offer free admission occasionally.
I say good sir pass the Gray poupon. Youll probably still be poor when you leave but youll feel richer knowing that youll have learned something new
A new and exciting show, every time I return.
Its a great place to visit and enjoy the art.
A really fun place to walk and look
I think our museum is wonderful! We have traveled to many of the worlds best museums and many have more masterpieces but I believe our museum has some wonderful pieces and collections. There has been a whirlwind of activity since our new director, Deborah Velders arrived. Many exhibition spaces have been re-done and improved. You should not miss our collection of glass, as well as American Crafts and art of the great Depression. When visiting Mobile I know youll love our Museum!
I never been inside. But thanks for the free wifi at municipal park
Offers a wide variety of art from local as well as national artists
Best area for pokemon walks
Very interesting and my daughter liked it.
One of many wonderful places to visit in mobile
Terrific for getting away from it for a while. There are plenty of interesting outdoor exhibits to walk for exercise in the fresh air, and a foot bridge that leads over a lake into Langan Park.
Ive been here so many times & I always enjoy it. Whether youre visiting the museum or walking around the grounds, its a great place to visit.
Very educational and informative
Cool place to chill
Great Exhibits
Such a nice place to visit and the childrens area is very cool and has stuff for them to do after we look at art
Wonderful lil museum. Has a lot to offer.
Great place to spend the day
Just perfect in every way!I always enjoy the new exhibits and the usuals.
