Beautiful Museum and you get a detailed tour of the mighty a exclamation point it took us two hours just to tour the battleship so plan three to four hours on your stop! You can climb inside the garden turret from the outside and go down into the powder magazine! The tour is very well organized with excellent signage describing whats going on in every part of a sailors life on the ship of this size.
The best spot in Mobile Alabama. My husband and I did a day trip to Alabama not much was open as far as restaurants or shopping areas due to Coronavirus. But the USS Alabama Museum I should say is awesome family oriented they have at least 10 porta potties outside and just enough space to keep your distance from others. It was $4 for parking and $14 to enter battleships in submarine. I believe they told my husband $2 discount for veterans but we didnt use it.
Great experience. Lots to see and learn. They have kennels you can lock your dog in with a ten dollar deposit. Which I must say is great because we always vacation with our dog as she is part of our family but sometimes limits what we can do. Tickets are very reasonably priced with discounts for veterans. We had a four year old with us and did all three self guided tours in about two hours, although shes pretty tough all the steps did take a toll on her. We had a great time.
This place is really interesting! The ship is in excellent condition. The staff is kind and respectful. Everything is clean. The amount of history in unbelievable. We couldn’t have enjoyed it any more. We recommend touring this battleship. They also have a plane inside a hanger that was one of the Tuskegee airman’s planes. Very very cool. If you’re passing through Mobile, makePlans to see this place. It’s worth the time.
I really enjoyed my visit to the USS Alabama. Ive typed a couple of battleships before, but Im pretty sure the Alabama provided the greatest access to the various compartments. All the main turrets were open and you could see the breeches of each gun, although you couldnt get all the way down to them. Three self guided tours covered different parts of the ship, from the 08 level (easy high up) down to the machinery /boiler rooms. Worth the visit!
Worth the money and visit. Easily spent over 2+ hours exploring and still didnt see it all. Arrive early before crowds to make it more enjoyable.
$15 for adults, $6 ages 6-12. Parking is an additional $4 for my pickup truck. Very fun, unique stop. I remember visiting 30 years ago and wanted to bring our kids. There is a LOT to see and do. We took 2 of the 3 self-guided tours of the battleship, had a bottle of water in the museum, then walked thru the submarine - and that was 3.5 hours! Had we read a lot, watched videos, or taken the third battleship tour wed have easily been at 5 hours!Lots of cool photo ops! Also lots of ways for them to take your money - green screen photos ($53), fighter jet simulator ($5 each person), vending machines ($3 for bottled water), gift shop. Concession stand was closed.
This place is awesome! So much history to digest, we tried to see everything but started to get hungry and tired. Pack a lunch or fish from the pier and catch very own ocean monster! Everyone is very friendly and helpful! Enjoy.
*MUST VISIT*What an amazing place! The memorial to our service men and women is truly amazing. Being able to actually climb where the boots of others have trod is very humbling.Everything is kept up so well. We enjoyed climbing all over the U.S.S. Alabama. We hope to go back soon to visit the U-boat.This is a great place to take kids for field trips, school trips, etc. The youngins may get a little tired, but i believe 8 y/o and up would throughly enjoy this visit.
Last minute trip after coming off an hour wait on the bridge due to an accident. It was nice to get out and stretch our legs. $4 to park and multiple discounts available when going inside to tour the ship and submarine. We loved it its definitely a must see, with or without kids.
Recovering from hurricane and covid practices put a damper on it but still very interesting.
It took me a while to figure out the self guided tour but once I got the hang of it it work great.
Its such an honor to be able to walk through the ship and aviation center and get a small glimpse of what life would have been like for the military personnel that lived during the time. It reminds you just how grateful you should be!!!!
So much to do and see! Lots of climbing/walking up and down, so bring water and appropriate shoes. We spent about 3 hours here between the ship and submarine, but could’ve spent so much more time here. Really neat learning about the history and touring the different floors. Be sure to grab a tour guide when you pay (will help you from getting lost).
That battleship has a lot of history. It was a lot of fun to go through and walk through the ship and read about the different things that happened aboard that ship. It is definitely worth the visit!
Beautiful dog friendly area. The ship allows service dogs on board and has kennels with fans outside the ship to leave your dog. Dogs are allowed around the park and you can see all the cool history. Get awesome photos, and if you go on a day like today, see a car show!
Great place too visit, so much to see and great staff. If youre in the area stop in!!!Well worth the 15 dollars.
What a great day to celebrate the 4th of July! Amazing displays, great staff and perfect weather made our first experience to Battleship Memorial Park one of the best holiday vacations this year! We were very happy to see how veterans were honored from so many branches of service through so many wars. If given the chance, make some time to see the USS Alabama, USS Drum and A-12 Blackbird when youre in Mobile, AL.
Must see if youre in the area...also you can tour the USS Drum (WW2 sub).BB is well maintained and you can easily spend 2 hours exploring the ship. Great piece of history and it is well-preserved.
You can spend hours here traveling between floors of USSAlabama. Very unique experience. Make sure you cover yourself as sports bra will not be enough with ticket clerk Kimberly. And I understand why. 5 stars if she would not embarrass us while in line for tickets.
Great Place well worth the admission. The sub and battleship was great and the planes and tanks outside were great. My 2 kids 5 and 7 loved it.
Great experience. Interesting to see the technology that was available to our sailors and marines during WW II.
Dad and I were traveling late. Left Forest Mississippi around 6pm. About 20 min before getting to the travel stop we planned to set up the RV and camp, out of the darkness, there it was. The mighty USS Alabama. At that very moment our plans changed. Upon parking our eyes were wide open. A flippin submarine was out of water and on displayed. This is about the Alabama though. What can i say? This ship is amazing and gives you a sense of pride just looking at it. I have 100s of photos and countless video clips. I havent had the time to edit the data i have but eventually will upload a video to youtube. Search Daryl Rosenberg to find it. Itll take about a month as Im still on the road. If you have half a day I strongly recommend you see this. Free to all active military. Oh and btw, they have a Confederate submarine on display. Another must see
We loved this sightseeing trip but needed much more time to see everything! The USS Alabama was amazing and very interesting! The preservation group has done a fantastic job of restoration and presenting the various parts of the old battleship in a relevant and interesting way!
Very, very cool. Glad we went. My dad was a Navy veteran of WWII. And on destroyer ships and mine sweeps as a diesel mechanic. I was in awe of the engine and boiler rooms knowing this was what he worked on. Go and support our troops. Their sacrifice is why we have the lives we do.
Great time! I walked around with my 5 month old in a chest backpack and had no problems. Ladderwells can be relatively steep compared with typical staircases, so be warned. The submarine was also a cool experience! Much more confined there
Great visit. Masks and/or social distance observed, but due to spread out area was not really a issue. Wish they would have different prices for the three exhibits. Children get tired with so much to see. Picnic area was very clean.
Brought our 3-year-old. I enjoyed it as much as he did. So much history... Be prepared to go up and down lots of steep stairs. Its very interesting exploring the ship.
We stopped at battleship park to see the sights and have a picnic lunch. As far as tourist attractions go it is awesome and the kids loved it.There is a sub the Drum, the battleship the Alabama, planes, tanks, boats, and more.It is immense so bring comfortable shoes and bottled water!
It was amazing, the different planes submarines and ships we saw were amazing. The USS Alabama was so fun to explore and walk around in it! I learned so much from that trip, I definitely recommend going!!
Amazing piece of American history! Great tour! Easy to get to. Ample parking and wheelchair accessible. Great views of Mobile bay. You may even see porpoise, Herons, Bald eagles, or Ospreys, and amazing sunsets.Boat launch near by if you want to see it from the water. We took our Jetskis!Close to downtown to grab a bite if you so desire or meander around the city. Click a like if this helps and enjoy the history of Alabama and America! #alabamastrong.
Largest warship Ive ever seen. Sadly we missed the guided tour. Just went on our own and took pictures of the different aircrafts and tanks around the place. Were in awe of the aerial and naval might of this glorious country.
This was my second time there 2 dollar discount for retired vets and free admission for active duty and I believe their spouse so for both my wife and i it was 28 bucks and 5 for parking it wasnt super hot but hot enough that the ac was struggling if you know what I mean and cost 3 dollars for a bottle of water water fountains were blocked off and the ice cream machines were out of order cool wildlife we saw a gator a turtle and alot of fish and the exhibits were awesome and well portrayed one big think I didnt like is it didnt have a guide so we got lost a few times and circled back a few times. Over all good piece of history done it twice wont do it again probably would of been better if I were in the navy and could relate
The USS Alabama is one of the most interesting historical sites I have been to. We spent 4 hours there and could have stayed way longer, but we did not have enough time. It was well worth the trip!
More amazing than just a tour. Made it in time for the mock battle and flyover. Such a great experience for the family. Cant wait to come back.
What a treat today. Visited the USS Alabama at the Battleship Memoral Park located at Mobile, Alabama. For those who have not visited, the museum and park is not sponsored by State or Federal funds. All operations are funded by visitors. This park is one of the best military parks Ive ever visited in the southeastern U.S. It represents all branches of service and can easily take a whole day without seeing or exploring everything.
Great stories from a volunteer Chris who retired and helps on the ship. Tales of main guns named after girl friends, dropped shell in main storage ( look for a dent in the floor) and how an ice cream machine was shot.Overall great condition and well done preservation. We spent hours there.
Huge 5 Stars! Worth the stop. We didnt have the time to tour the destroyer unfortunately but there are plenty of cool things to see and lots of great photo ops. So happy we took the time to stop here.
Loved the battleship and the submarine. Getting to actually go through them was great. Wish the signage inside battleship was better as far as directing through. Also wish they had guided tours. Would pay for that. The other planes, boats, helicopters and tanks were very impressive. Actually have a blackbird spy plane inside.
It provides a glimpse into history. The walking tour is easy to follow and takes you all through the ship. You also get to see the museum inside as well as the WW II submarine. Be ready for a lot of stairs and walking.
Pretty cool place to visit with our history buff 11 yr old! Definitely recommend it! We got there too late to enjoy the gift shop, it closes 1 hour before the place closes. So, get there earlier!
Great place to see military history. Lots of neat aircraft and tanks, but the star of the show is the USS Alabama BB60. Interesting to see how a battleship is set up and all of the guns. Very easy to get through. Also have a submarine which is interesting, but is a little tight for a 6 foot tall person. Great time and lots to learn.
Spent all day here. Loved it. You can go everywhere on the ship, well worth your time to see if.
We took our son here because he wants to join the Navy when he graduates high school. I have visited here before and wanted him to be able to experience it as well. It was every bit as memorable and humbling as I remember. We all enjoyed our visit. Thank you to all who served and those whom are serving and those who are about to serve. God bless America!
I was traveling from San Diego to Miami. When I saw the signs for the Battleship Pkwy. I thought is time to stop and enjoy a little this trip. Lets see what is there. And I love it. Specially the opportunity to be side by side with a great war airplanes, helicopters, tanks, submarine and the USS Alabama. Great educational opportunity.
One of the best places to go if you are near Mobile, Alabama. It is a big part of history right there, they have alot of old tanks, jets, and submarine used in the old war. The price of the ticket was just $15.
A very fun place to go to. A great place to make memories with the family. I went and took hundreds of pictures.
Cool place. Love that they respect active military by letting them in free.
There is so much more to see than just the battleship Alabama. Plan on spending the day. Very well done restoration and explanation to many historical military hardware.
My dad and I took my son here last year (2019 & he was 4), and he had a blast! We all enjoyed getting to walk in the ship, sitting and playing with the guns, and looking through the scopes! We also really enjoyed going in the submarine! They have an inside area that has some planes and is air conditioned. The gift shop is nice aswell.
Fabulous! Breathtaking! Stunning! The Mighty A did not disappoint and i highly highly recommend visiting. Our kids (early elementary school age) absolutely loved it.
My husband loves this boat. Tagged along with him so he could get his military fix while on vacation. It is an interesting day trip if you are in the area and like military history.
What an enjoyable look at history and the challenges faced by our military. The battleship was immense and I cannot wait to go back again and see even more. Also, it became very apparent why I was never a submariner because my 63 frame barely made it through the USS Drum and I could have never slept in the bunks. Wow.
My wife, daughter and three grandchildren loved this visit! We went on the USS Drum and The USS Alabama and they had a great time. I was in the Navy and was able to explain many things to them as we toured both. I recommend this visit to anyone who enjoys the history of The Navy.
Very nicely done memorial. Glad I took the time to visit. A highlight of my adventure for sure
Its a very good place for a school filled trip. Being there brought back memories of my kids when they were younger. We went out for a family 4 day trip on the USS LaSalle.
Fabulous experience! Different route options available... with varying difficulty of moving around. Enjoyed being able to really experience life in the USS Alabama, along with all the history you can read about and look at. Would go back again and try out a different route this time!
See the pics. Great show
I visited the USS Alabama. It was a great experience, The history of the ship and the crew that sailed her can still be felt. The museum does not get state or federal funding. It was a great trip and I will never forget it.
Absolutely loved it. Spent 4 hours here. We have toured the Alabama, Drum, New Jersey, and the USS Slater
Very interesting and educational, a good time even for those who dont know much of military history. Lots of walking and tight spaces, maybe not the best for small children. Not stroller friendly.
Magestic old war machines. Fun for everyone. Informative placards everywhere and a neat little gift shop!
It was so fun me and my family went and we had fun. Thaere is a lot of war things like boats, aircraft, submarines, a gift shop, outdoor animal boarding with fan and water but you need to have a bowl for food and water, you can tour the 2 boats, military memorials and other things. Wrote by,Kylie an 11 year old
There is so much to see here! Our family visited a few years previous with our 3 children, and most recently with our now 4 children and our brother/ uncle. I still have more to see! Theres 3 different paths you can take, each showing you different things. They are restoring and adding things as well. A fascinating place.
Go there. Give yourself at least a couple of hours. Well worth the stop.
Were a retired military family, so weve always enjoyed visiting these types museums. We went with our family that came to visit with our nephew who is 6 years old and with our almost 3 yr old granddaughter. We took some snacks & drinks, make sure your drinks have lids (like soda bottles instead of cans.) We started with the ship since we knew there would be more to see and werent sure how the kids would be able to handle the length of the full visit. The kids loved the tour, noting that they were usually ready to move on to the next thing instead of analyzing scenes & reading plaques, but there was so much to see, they both enjoyed every bit of it. There were fans to help circulate air in most areas. We went 3 weeks ago (July 21 at 10:15a.m. until about 4 p.m.) Wear sneakers if you plan to climb up and down stairs of the different levels of the ship; it is worth the time & effort if you enjoy exploring. We then took a break by enjoying the inside cooler air in the indoor aircraft part of museum and there are seats in different areas where you can sit down, great for reading your feet while still enjoying a video giving history of the particular plane. You can have snacks & drinks, just be clean. There are vending machines available if you forgot drinks or snacks. The cafe was closed due to Covid, but were able to go into gift shop and had some snacks & cold drinks there. The gift shop is the way to exit, but you can go back into the museum with your receipt showing your paid, so we went back into aircraft section after break and went to explore the submarine. Surprisingly, the submarine tour went quicker than I expected, but I took longer than my family because I liked looking at all the details and taking pictures. So much to see in a small space. Note: or oldest daughter did not go inside since she is claustrophobic. There werent as many people during this time, so it was very easy for me to move out of the way to let someone else pass me up. Not to many stairs to climb, mostly just going up to the sub then to go inside then to leave. Due to Covid, masks were required. Very fun, a recommend place to visit.
Not only does it have lots of history and artifacts but we were lucky enough to see live action reenactment of a battle. They also have dog kennels under trees with fans and water available for those of us who travel with our dogs. Kudos for that fantastic idea. We really enjoyed our visit!
Fantastic walk through history... The Drum is well cared for. Im a submariner, so any time I get to walk through a boat takes me back. The grandkids had a blast with all of the planes on display. Great family adventure...
So much to see and do. We could have spent three days there going through all the inside displays and outside memorials. Such a wonderful tribute and educational experience.
Lots to see and the exhibits are layed out well but definitely not worth what we paid to get in. Was refused the triple A discount that is advertised. The women selling admission tickets was very rude and discourteous. D Keilyn the girl selling photos was awesome and very knowledgeable about the ship. Overall however I would not recommend this tour unless you just like wasting money and being treated poorly. I will not be back.
Holy huge! The submarine was awesome. Its air-conditioned but claustrophobic definitely, especially with masks on. Very interesting. The ship was HUGE with 3 tour routes. Took us about 1hr or so to do the yellow line tour, which was primarily the guns and captains quarters. It was ALOT of up and down stairs. Most of the down was all at once from deck 6 to 2. I wish we could have done the Red and Green (the under part) to see the everyday life stuff, engine room and rooms like the OR and bakery. But we were simply exhausted with 2 kids (age 9 and 6). id assume you need a half day here.
Pretty cool, self guided tour of the USS Alabama, took me and my Husband about a hour and half to walk through (we kinda went fast) we enjoyed ourselves!
Amazing experience to walk on this Ship that has actually contributed to something in the Japanese part of the second world War a long time ago..Plan for at least 2 hours if you want to explore the entire ship - there is a veteran at the gate that gives you a clear guidance on what paths to follow.. Everything is well explained and easy to follow.. Great reason to come to Mobile
It was a great place to allow my son to experience history. We both loved it extremely interesting exhibits.
Great place to go, lots to see, I had a great time here. The battleship, the submarine, all of the planes and helicopters and tanks, everything was very interested to see. So much history here, so many stories to tell, so many stories untold, such a great experience. Very kind and helpful volunteers working here, very nice clean and well-run facility. Price of admission is very reasonable. This is one you should not miss out on. You will be glad you came out to this museum, trust me !
Great time viewing old military equipment. Use mosquito spray though!
The USS Alabama is awesome! Preserved for the public to walk her decks and learn about her role in Americas history, she does not disappoint!Love the additional military aircraft, vehicles, and the USS Drum as well!
Be prepared to spend at least 4 hours climbing up, down, through and all around the ship and the neighboring submarine. The displays were pretty nice. It was a hot day but the interior of the ships were not too bad. This is not ADA accessible that I could tell. Also the gift shop was closed when we were there. Masks are required.
NO WORDS CAN EXPLAIN HOW AWESOME AND EMOTIONAL THIS ALL WAS
This place is a must-see, if you plan on visiting! Come and see firsthand how sailors use to live at sea! The static displays are something for everyone, military and not alike!
So much great history. What an incredible machine. Excellent displays.
What history. It costs to take the self tour of the USS Alabama, as well as the submarine USS Drum and the aircraft carrier, and was well worth the $30 for all 3 of us to see everything. You can go everywhere on the ships and there is history and information to take in. There are also several airplanes and tanks on the campus. You could shield a lot of time and learn a lot from this museum. A worth detour on the way into Alabama!
Always a great place to bring the family. They offer water but snack arent allowed so make sure to grab a bite before you go.Despite Covid-19 issues, theyre doing an amazing job at required facemasks and social distancing.
Visited on Independence Day. Last time I was here was 1986. Its awesome. Would recommend all day
The entry fee is more than fair to be able to tour not only this battleship but also a submarine and several exhibits inside the hanger
An awesome piece of history well worth a visit.
Great value, completely worthdy of your visit. Lots of history and great experience for kids.
I absolutely love this place!!! Lots of history here. The battleship is awesome to climb around on and tour the different levels. The aircraft hangar has some really rare pieces. The submarine gave me confirmation of what I always thought to be true, that I wasnt made for that line of work. The outdoor museum has a lot of nice pieces, especially my favorite, the B52. And last but not least, the 9/11 and war memorials. Very impressive. I recommend planning to spend a fair amount of time in order to see everything. My highest recommendation for this place.
A Must See. Wear good walking shoes, take it at your own speed. So much to see and learn.
I am a Navy Vet and would highly recommend this museum. Its a testament to the strength of our great military.
An awesome part of history. It was noble of Alabamians to salvage this great ship and keep it up for everyone to see. You can also see this ship in action in several movies like Under Siege, Crimson Tide and Men of Courage. Moves based on true stories are the best.
Very cool place to visit.
Loved this! Such a cool experience.
Great tour! Our family thoroughly enjoyed discovering every level of this historic ship. We we amazed by all the access we had to look into every nook and cranny of this ship. We also enjoyed the airplanes both inside and outside. Highly recommend this tour!
This was so neat, Getting to go all over both ships was fascinating. Such a great museum.
Very interesting and informative self guided tour. Was just fun exploring the ship and seeing how the crew would live. Give yourself a couple hours to fully experience everything. Admission includes the aviation building and the USS Drum, a dry docked WWII submarine. Good souvenirs in gift shop also.
Definitely an awesome experience. I love coming here and Ive been here three times. I would come here again and again and again. I always find something new when I come to this place. I would suggest coming when its much cooler seeing that the first two levels are quite hot. Especially if you are older or have very young children. The children dont want to experience it and are ready to get out
Beautiful ship with amazing examples of our nations greatest air and sea craft surrounding it. Definitely worth seeing, the size alone is astounding.
We were staying in Mobile for a couple of days and decided to go on the USS Alabama tour. The Alabama fought in WW2 and the tour includes a submarine (USS Drum) as well as quite a few aircraft from the Korean and Vietnam Wars. They also have very nice memorials from these warsYou need to be in pretty good shape as you have to climb and descend stairs and step through constrained passageways but it is worth it. You have access to most of the ship and they have very detailed exhibits of life aboard the battleship. The tour through the submarine is also worth it but requires a few more contortions to walk through the waterproof doorways. This is a great place to visit and you can spend hours here. A fantastic tribute to our fighting men and women in the services.
