Best thing going for kids and families and anyone, really! Fun, interactive experience and the big dome theater is unrivaled. Excellent gift shop. Area about health, the body and medicine is always there, as are other science exhibits with things to do to make those a-hah connections. Changing traveling exhibits, many blockbusters, are a valuable offering to the community. Labs with live stuff happening! One New Years Eve, the lab let us make some fireworks before we went outside to see the citys big fireworks show! They hire knowledgeable former educators, tech types and others eager to bring a great experience to visitors. Management is committed to quality programs. Lovely old building. Great place. Cafe has gone to junk food instead of the quality there used to be, but I guess it is cheaper and what people want? At least you can get a bite to eat bc there is a lot to do in the place and you need something available on site.
I love this movie theater. Its always clean & well organized by employees. The staff is super friendly, plenty of parking space, and the quality of image and audio is incredibly good.
My daughter, my grandson, and I had an awesome time! They were showcasing the dinosaurs and it was amazing. We watched a movie in the IMAX theater describing the story of how dinosaurs lived so long ago and the fossils that were uncovered. Highly recommend that you check this out for yourself! They had so many other exhibits that keeps an active mind occupied! There are gift shops, as well as a small cafeteria for snacks. Will most definitely come back again!
The Body Works exhibit is a great place to learn anatomy and physiology for all age groups. There are a variety of educational games that teach individuals about nutrition, and how to make healthy choices when selecting the foods we put into our body. Also, one can learn about different occupations within the medical field by participating in hands on activities. This is only a small portion of what the museum has to offer. There are many other exciting exhibits to explore. I chose to share this one because it is my childrens favorite.
The Exploreum was a bit smaller than I expected and some of the exhibits were closed for remodeling or updating when we were there on a Friday afternoon. The staff we interacted with was quite friendly and knowledgeable on the exhibits. I think our conversations with one of the staff was my favorite part of the experience. Our older elementary age and middle school age kids were entertained but not fascinated. But I think younger aged kids might enjoy it a bit more.
My kids loved this place. Plenty for my kids age (4, 6, 8) to do. Get the IMax with it. Of course, as with every place like this, it would be way better to buy the membership. We dont live near here so we just went for the day.
The exhibits are wonderful! I LOVED the Gangis Khan exhibit!!
I think I LOVE this place as much as an adult as I did as a child. Any chance we get to spend even an hour here we try to make it count. We enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit during Mardi Gras and it was a great break from the outdoor activities.
A hidden gem. Dont forget to visit if vacationing Alabama on the gulf coast. The children love the hands on experience. The education they receive is priceless. ️
We are frequent visitors here, and we have always been very pleased. The exhibits on dinosaurs and on the human body were no exception to that high quality standard. Good science presented in ways that everyone, from the school kids running around to old science buffs like my wife and I, can appreciate.
Took the grandbabies on a spur of the moment adventure. They are 3 & 4 they had a blast and really enjoyed learning about their bodies. I didnt give 5 stars because the 3rd floor display was empty.
The front desk person was very friendly and helpful. Google says they close at 5 daily but close at 4 tues-fri. We chose a 3:00 digital dome showing. The snack bar was completely clean and basically shut down at 2:35. The front desk person popped us popcorn but we were not able to get fountain drinks/combos so we ended up spending quite a bit more on snacks. The place was smaller than the one in Birmingham but our kids still had fun.
The dinosaurs were great but it was hot inside the exploreum which made looking around miserable.
Phone died so i didnt get alot of pics. But alot of hands on activities for the family and the kids to do.
This was a great trip. Plenty of things for a 2 yr old and an 8 yr old to do! It was very clean. Great educational experience and lots of hands on playing! Recomend for babies and older children! They have a fantastic play area for toddlers!
Nice childrens museum. Interesting hands-on experiments for kids. The DEA and drugs exhibit that was there at the time was not age appropriate for most of their target age group.
Great place for children. My daughter enjoyed the curious George exhibit few months ago and now the dinosaur exhibit they have currently.Parents can relax and let their kids run around get tired.
The Exploreum holds a special place in my heart, truly. However, my most recent visit (my first as a paying adult) has left me incredibly disappointed. The My Body exhibit which has been here for a very long time is basically non-functional. My niece gave up even trying to interact. The dinosaur exhibit, for how much its advertised, is very small and offers very little to learn or do. I will say the animatronics are amazing, very well done on creating the dinosaurs. I just wish there was more. They have also removed the old exhibit that was upstairs, I believe it was called mind on, which had some of the most fun and interactive gadgets. The kids hands on fun zone has been drastically altered and minimized. We barely even had room to walk around, and again, my niece did one walk-through and was over it.I know as we grow up, these places lose their wonder, but even my niece noticed how lackluster this visit was.
Every other year for the past 6 years we have visited the exploreum. Each time has been amazing. Wonderful new exhibits every time.
Great place for the kids and grownups alike
This is a good placefor kids and adults
Ive always enjoyed bringing my family here. Definitely a must for grade school aged children. I would love to see some space related exhibits and events, as well as STEAM/STEM programs that specifically target girls.
My kids love it. It was kind of small but they are doing construction.
Kids liked it. Child area is nice. Some exhibits and paint need repair, cleaning, and updating. Workers are really nice.
Not worth the money. There are some pretty cool stations but at least 50% don’t work. Many areas have limited to no educational value. Took our 11 and 13 year old they were bored after an hour. Most is the things they enjoyed were items we can do at home, LEGO, paper airplanes, snowflakes etc
This place is awesome. Brought my kids. But I think I enjoyed it way more than them! I wish i would have found the back exhibits earlier. I went closer to closing and they were cleaning the ball pit for kids. My daughter would have had the best time. We stopped and got ice cream before going home. The gift shop has items on clearance as well.
This place was amazing I was enthralled the entire time I was there. The Birdly experience is a must!
Always have a blast when we come here
Amazing museum. The dinosaur event they are currently having is absolutely perfect! The body section of the museum is awesome too. Definitely a must see
Geared for kids that are under 10, not for everyone. Very nice but very hands on with the little kid tables. Would have been great when y kids were little.
This museum is part of the astc. Chances are if you have a science museum membership in your home town, this one offers reciprocal benefits. That said, weve been to a plethora and this wasnt as much as fun as other science museums. Some of the exhibits were broken and the cage animals were gone. There only two levels and the 2nd floor costs extra.
My 7 year old daughter and 3 year old grand daughter had a lot of fun here. They gave us a great military discount. There were so many things to do that we ran out of time. Great quality family time!!
We always have fun with exhibits, interactive learning & playground area for the small kid. IMAX theater is ALWAYS a must. I love that you can eat popcorn in the theater now.
So much fun. Great place for kids to learn and play.
One of the main reasons that we decided to visit this place is because they were on the list for Blue Star museums that were free for military families. The other reason is because I have had other friends recommend it to us. All the stations they offered kept us busy but some of the items did not work properly or were not working at all. All in all we still had a great time and spent about two hours there. I wish that the staff would be more interactive with the patrons to advise us what each display was about and how it worked.
Great place to visit with family. There is always a nice exhibit. Along with interactive, fun learning stations for children. The Imax theater is a great experience for the whole family. Im looking forward to our next visit.
This is a great place to take the kids. They are always very friendly and have new things to learn about.
Grandkids love it.
Great staff! Love the new dinosaur exhibit!!!
We have always enjoyed going to the exploreum. A lot of activities for the family. Overall a good place.
Small but mighty. Lots of things for kids to make, staff was very friendly. Food wasnt good. The body exhibit was awesome.
Enjoyed the trip. Educational and informative. Staff were all super nice to us.
It is a fun and educational experience for any child. Plenty of interesting activities and games to keep any child entertained for hours.
Fun place for kids
We were here for a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised by what it was. There is an hour of play time before being taken to the party room. Our host was great but we both felt like the gifts could have gone better. After the party, we had until closing to play in the rest of the Exploreum.
Amazing childrens play area! The museum needs cleaning and some attention but this is a wonderful place to play. The body exhibit truly needs to be reconsidered. It does not truly offer interactive educational experiences. It certainly tries.
Really enjoyed. Interesting educational exhibits for all ages. Nice that there is an Imax associated. Even though downtown, parking wasn’t a problem. As someone else has pointed out the body works area is well worth the visit. You will learn here.
Definitely NOT worth the money! A huge disappointment. Not only have they gotten rid of alot of the fun things they used to have but most displays and events are broken. The Exploreum used to be a great place many years ago. Sadly, Wont be visiting again.
Usually an interesting exhibit going on here! Very cool children hands-on activities. However, their Genghis Khan exhibit was cringeworthy with glorification of racist Genghis portrayals in cinema (i.e John Wayne). But generally, the Exploreum us a great family day out!
After meaning to visit the Exploreum, we finally made time to do so. We got there about 3:00 and were concerned that we didnt have time to do the Center justice. The lady at the desk said that it usually takes families about an hour to go through the Center. Our inquisitive pre-teen managed to be the very last person to leave after they closed at 5:00. Two hours wasnt nearly enough time for our visit. The exhibits were good. The activities were good. The staff was friendly and helpful. The staff-led activities were really engaging. It looks like well have to go back again soon.
This place was absolutely fantastic! I wish I lived closer. We went here with my daughter on a field trip and I couldnt be more impressed! So much for the kids to do and learn and dont even get me started on the IMAX theater. We watched the Gallapogos Islands and it was definitely an experience to see!!!!!
School age children would love this. It was a little too much for my 3 1/2 year old grandson. Maybe a more calmer, quieter type child would enjoy it more. His favorite was the hands on section. I highly recommend it !
Fun place to visit with kids, if we lived closer, wed buy the membership. The kids love the hands on learning.
Staff is excellent!
The staff was amazingly friendly! But the exhibits where very lacking. Most where non interactive videos and displays for the right wing of the museum. The left wing however was very decent for the kids. They really need to revamp their health and space sections to something more hands on. Not just computer programs.
What a fantastic family place. Plenty for the children to do but also keep the adults interested. Staff was friendly and helpful and the building was clean. We will be back for sure.
Staff was friendly, exhibits were interactive, food was moderately priced. All in all, a really great visit and a wonderful way to keep us entertained on a rainy day.
Always an amazing experience. My kids love it and my toddler talks about it for weeks. She was absolutely obsessed with the shadow wall. I think the membership is point worth it for any family especially you go more than twice a year.
What a fun place to spend a day! Your little ones are learning and they dont even know it!
A really great place for kids under the age of about 12 I would say. Well done, fairly priced. Clean, clever equipment and exhibits. The Imax is simply an awesome experience but I think for teens and adults, not the little ones.
Wonderful for children of all ages (even us 50+ ones)
I keep stopping here with my kids and everytime I walk in I remember just how bad it is. nothing has changed in as long as I can remember (besides the very low quality traveling exhibits) and I would say more than half of the old exhibits are broken. The price for what is here is rediculus.
My kids love going here! They are currently doing the homeschool science classes this semester as well and so far love learning about paleontology!
Even at 71 I learned quite a bit. Had a blast with me 9 yr ole great grand-daughter. The IMAX was great, superhero dogs. I did get a $ 10.00 parking ticket, but it was worth it.Had a great time thats all that counts.
I take my daughter at least once every couple months and she loves it also always has very interesting exhibits for adults and older kids and the IMAX is huge!!!!
We had so much fun here. A great day trip.
This place is absolutely amazing! They have the IMAX theater and a clear glass windowed room where you can see the huge IMAX reels in action! The interactive childrens science exploration room was incredible for adults and children. I especially enjoyed the paper airplane testing and the musical harp. There was a health exhibit that had a giant 8 feet tall beating model of a heart and a fascinating interactive maze with blocks and tools to show how difficult the task a surgeon has to do work inside the body around important and immovable structures. We only had 2 hours and ran out of time. Next time, well have more time! Only 4 hours drive from Atlanta!
Love an exhibit that has something to interest for evwryone, all ages! Good show!
The museum was cool very educational for kids and adults. Although a bunch of exhibits were under renovation. The staff was helpful and nice, fair price. The place was sooo CLEAN..
We were visiting from out of town and really found this place to be great. If you are a teacher, bring your teacher ID and youll get a discount. Parking is a little tough, but if youre willing to hunt, youll find free 2 hour parking. However, I was told that they really do enforce the 2-hour limit
Have been several times and their special exhibits are always informative and well put together. Our docent Wayne was an excellent guide. The IMAX theater will be renovated over the summer. Look forward to more interesting exhibits in the future.
Great place to visit as an adult or a child. Love the Hands-On science experiments. The Explorium offers traveling exhibits and can also host birthday parties and other events.IMAX theater is always an excellent addition to the visit.A little cafe is available for light snacks and the food is edible. Be warned you may want to have cash for the cafe because there is a $3 minimum balance required to use a debit or credit card
My children love this place. Great exhibits and fun filled camps in the summer.
Our group ranged in age from 7-75. The special exhibit was Animation Academy. It covered the early days to recent, contemporary works. A great wealth of knowledge and exposure awaits young and old minds alike. The health exhibit provides insight into medical procedures as well as personal health/fitness assessments. The endoscopy display shows the skill doctors must have for delicate procedures. No IMAX for my group. We are looking forward to the Genghis Khan exhibit in the spring!
I always love going to the Exploreum. We went to the Genghis Khan exhibit and saw some very interesting artifacts. Great place to take children! Kids can have fun and learn while doing so.
Tons of stuff to do here for kids of all ages. The adults enjoyed it too. We went for the Halloween party today. Between the special activities and the regular exhibits we could have spent the entire day but we left after 3 hours because of much needed naps. We did not visit the cafe or gift shop & we did not watch an IMAX film. We would definitely buy a membership if we lived in the area. The best part of the day was definitely the pumpkin explosion.
We have the ASTC pass and go to as many science centers that we can during our travels. The Gulf Coast Exploreum was decent and had some nice options for toddlers (our 3yo and 1yo enjoyed themselves). However as Momma, I would have preferred it to be a little more clean and maintained. The new body exhibits are cool though!
Hidden Pacific was a very good film and enjoyed doing the Birdly.
Great fun! They have a wonderful hands on learning section. This area included flight simulators although they were not working properly when I was there, a large water play table, oversized building blocks, Lego table, parachute and hover experimentation area, an ocean themed ball and more.
Im 27 years old and have been visiting this place since I was a small child. One of the greatest attractions Mobile has to offer. Its best to plan your trip coinciding with one of their featured exhibits. My favorites have been the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Human Body exhibits. But even if they dont have any major exhibits, their normal day-to-day entertainment is always a blast. Learning and fun packed into one. And they have the only IMAX theater that Im aware of on the Gulf Coast. I have seen lots of awesome documentaries in their theater. This place is really awesome and I hope itll remain open so I can take my kids, my grandkids, my great grandkids, and haunt my great great grandkids as they learn about science in a super fun way.
Cool place to bring your kids with neat scientific exhibits!
So many fun activities we didnt have time for everything! Nice spaces carved out for the under-five-year old crowd.
Great exhibit.. My students and I had a blast
Neices bday party. Kids had a great time
We took our two year old grandson. He played in the play area. They were between exhibits and it was kinda sparse in the museum.
Not as nice as bigger city children museums. But still good for a few hours of family fun
It was enjoyable but a little too pricey
Very cool. Was expecting a bit more to do but the kids area with the ballpit was over the top. Son loved it.
Even though my son was afraid of the dinosaurs, the whole family still had a blast!!
Took my one year old to see Curious George and it was awesome! There’s also the option to get a day pass and let the kiddos play. For a stay at home mom, it’s nice to spice things up and this is a great option. They also have themed exhibits and I highly recommend checking them out!
Pretty great for little (Pre-K) kids. Older kids can have fun too. Middle school and up will enjoy the IMAX experience, but the price tag does go up a bit. Still not that bad and parking around the area is very inexpensive compared to NO. Plenty to eat nearby too, but avoid the fort its just bleh.
A number of work in progress signs...and hands on things that didnt work as intended. Fun for children and very educational! But a little disappointing!
As soon as I had children, I asked for an Explorium membership for my family that Christmas. My kids are now 2.5 and 4 and we still love going to the Explorium!! We have had one birthday party there and it was a huge hit! And SO EASY! I love when the traveling exhibit is a kid-friendly one- we loved Curious George!!! The Wharf of Wonder is always fun too. I wish they had certain days or hours listed that were for field trips. I don’t like being there for those times with my small children. We love the bubble day they do during the summer and all of the special events!!!
We loved it! A great family outing not that far from Pensacola. They are right downtown in Mobile with lots of neat places in walking distance. My 2 1/2 year old loved all the hands on exhibits. I think its great for all ages.
Love it here! Great for kids of ALL ages!!
