Very informative staff. And the premises were spotless. Whoever is doing the maintenance is doing an awesome job.
A wonderful museum. Jacob was very friendly & answered all of my questions. Five stars! Long live Mobile, AL.
This place was just great ! The lady who let me in was just as nice as can be, and its only $10 admission, so that was great too. They have the nicest collection of old original horse carriages and buggies I have ever seen. They even have a Hansom Cab ! Ever read any Sherlock Holmes ? That was worth the price of admission in my book ! The museum is rich in Alabama history and culture, with a lot of unique old relics on display. Flintlock rifles, a Sharps and a Spencer. I really learned a lot, and had a great time. The second floor is a blast too ! You should stop in and see this if you are in town. Absolutely !
A superb museum. Jacob was very friendly & answered all of my questions.
A beautiful museum dedicated to the immense history of the area. Ruled by the Spanish, French and British, this town surely has an exciting past. The museum does a wonderful job of discussing the interplay between each portion of the city’s past and also describes the reason for transition between each period in a refreshing manner. Highly recommend paying a visit when in the area.
A nice small museum about Mobile. Free on the first Sunday of the month.
Wonderful and fascinating displays. Very well done.
I only had about 15 minutes to have a look see, but....,The History of Mobile seems to, so far...,be a collection of artifacts that reflect the old southern way of life. However, i am so thankful that GOD had enough of allowing the enemy to robHIS Children of their lives .,And in doing so, put an end to slavery. To GOD Be The Glory !
A little gem. They have actual conquistador helmets! The authentic dugout canoe and fossils were interesting. And the WW2 section held some great surprised as well. I was so disappointed that they didnt have anything yet about the last slave ship, Clotilda, because it landed in Mobile and there are numerous descendants still there.
Wonderful staff and a great museum. Really tells the history of Mobile, Alabama
A good little museum. We went for the Roman exhibit, but we took time (about an hour) to see the permanent exhibits of Mobile’s history. Overall, this was well done. I was a bit disappointed in the Roman exhibits. Most of what they had were models of what Roman military hardware was like. That was interesting and, history buff that I am, I did learn a few things. However, Rome as a superpower was so much more than just its army. For this part I would say, it was well worth the price of admission, but don’t go expecting too much.
The staff was wonderful! All the exhibits were very informative and interesting! They also had a Holiday Market when we went which was great. This museum is probably best for older children or adults, but they do have exhibits occasionally that are fantastic for younger kids(like a pirate exhibit). If you check it out, be sure you have at least 2 hours to walk through. It takes awhile to see and read all the different items that they have.
Went in for the Roman empire exhibit and spend the good part of 2 hours down stairs looking at the permanent exhibits on mobile history, being a vet I particularly enjoyed all aspects of mobile military history. As for the Roman exhibit, fantastic. If youre mildly into carpentry you can learn a lot from this exhibit.
First Sundays are free! Does a good job representing the history of Mobile, with lots of things to see and interesting stories from the area. They also have great traveling exhibits. Will definitely be back!
Very great! I came here in November, great museum explaining Mobile, and must see if you are coming here!
Great history museum for Mobile city and Alabama. Plan on at least 3-4 hours to make it thru all the exhibits and short movies and audios. Our favourites were the doll houses and the ship building exhibit. Price was reasonable At $10 per adult ($9 for seniors).
It was wonderful. I would highly recommend.
This was a family trip for the kids to see some of their own artwork displayed in a real museum. The staff at the museum went out of their way to make all the participants and guest feel at home. They provided light snacks for everyone present. They were nice to the kids and helped everyone get to the exhibit site. They also helped parents navigate around to particular areas of the museum where their child might have pieces displayed. Also, the rest of the museum was open to everyone and it was free. That is an excellent price. This is not a bug museum but it has a big heart.
Beautiful historic building. Amazing artifacts and exhibits. A city treasure that has been rediscovered!
Nice museum, changing exhibits. Wish they had a few more benches scattered through for old people to rest. The ladies at the front are nice and the restrooms are always spotless.
I learned so much about Mobile!
A great collection of rotating exhibits and some that are year round. Great place to go on the first Sunday of the month when entry is free.
Amazing museum with fantastic permanent exhibits showcasing the colorful and interesting history of Mobile. Only 10 dollars and worth twice that, you could easily spend 2-3 hours in this museum.
Great exhibits, explaining all stages of Mobiles history, accompanying the predictable artifacts. Great displays.
Great museum with lots to see!!! Very interesting array of artifacts
Super fun evening of Night at the Museum.. met many famous people like Mozart, Galileo, Sally Ride Martha Washington Etc all these years they said Amelia Earhart was missing but we found her right there at the Museum.
Excellent staff and very interesting! If youve never been i highly suggest you go! Great for kids too!
A wonderful place to visit. The Ancient Rome exhibit was good.
Great history. Knowledgeable personnel. Excellent exhibits. Marvellous building.
Great staff (Van) at visitor center.Gave great advice on places to seeMuseum cpnnected and well laid out
I was really disappointed been there before the sixties that they were supposed to have was the few clothes Adams the cashier was very sweet and polite she was telling me about the pamphlet and the other room but I could go get some I have family from out of town I wanted to get some of mobile the man inside of there was exceptionally rude he told me to call in number to get some I did not have enough even though I seen them stacks everywhere in that room tell the cashier about it how rude he was I said I wont recommend it to any of my friends or relatives
This place is simply the best! What a great place to learn the history of Mobile for a very nominal fee. You can kill a couple of hours here easily.
Great Museum. Historic Fort Conde across the street! I was pleasantly surprised at how great the this Museum is!
Fabulous little museum, very well put together. Took about two hours to go through.
It is a nice place to get some information about Mobile. The exhibits are well presented. However, some parts of the museum were closed due to renovations. So the price felt quiet expensive.
Such a hidden gem. A must see!!There are so many amazing things to see and learn kids and adults will be fascinated.
It was lacking. I went with my gal so that made it better the horse carriages and buggies was my favorite part
This is a great museum for learning the history of Mobile. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and are willing to help you at any point. The displays are intriguing and educational. The building is very beautiful and takes you back to olden days.
My family just moved to Alabama from Michigan and we heard about this museum giving free admission on first Sundays of the month and we thought that would be a great thing to do after church. It was by far the smallest museum Ive ever visited but it was packed with very interesting exibits. My two boys and husband enjoyed themselves and in my opinion thats all that matters. They had a diamond exhibit and a scavenger hunt, not only did they learn about diamonds but they got a cool little treat out of it. I learned a lot about the history of mobile so thanks for having a free day!
The exhibits are amazing
Too many cool things to mention or take pictures of.Great way to beat the heat and enjoy some mental stimulation
This museum is awesome! If you want to learn the history about Mobile AL than this is the place to visit!
Free every 1st Sunday.
Eclectic exhibits all with a tie to Mobiles past. Learned a lot, but wish offerings were fewer but more in-depth. Definitely worth visiting more than once.
I enjoy all the exhibits that they have and all the special ones that they bring in. Great for the whole family.
Full of interesting items and exhibits to learn the history of our city.
The museum is an excellent place to explore the history of Mobile.
Beautiful place
My 2nd time to visit the museum and this time was just as great as the first visit. The Representatives are very knowledgeable and friendly.
Beautiful historical setting. The abienc was great
Fun afternoon with lots of fun history!
Great little museum.
The exhibits were informative and well put together. The staff were friendly and helpful. Some of the other visitors were in the way but we went during their Halloween event. The children had a good time.
Superb experience with history and special exhibits. Enough to come back several times
Must go place to learn about Mobile history. For me, too much to take in in one visit. Definitely plan to go back.
Beautiful and fantastic museum...Great staff!!
Outstanding. Lots of thing to do for kids as and kids in heart.
Enjoyed the Clothing/Fashion of the 60s exhibit as well as the other permanent exhibits.
This is a beautiful place that has a large variety of displays on local history. In addition to the regular displays, there was a temporary section devoted to Mardi Gras. Everything was first class. One of the rooms included very large handcrafted contemporary dollhouses that were designed to scale for the artisans granddaughters. In the photos I took, it looks as if these are full sized homes. It cost $19 for 2 adults. Very nice and informative.
One of the few museums open on a Monday, it taught us a lot about the Mobile area. As first time visitors we were fascinated by the history, both heroic and heinous and the hard work it took to overcome numerous natural and man made disasters. One of the highlights was the display on the Mardi Gras, and the various Krewes that populate its parades and history. The miniatures were another highlight, and any student of the civil war will find more than enough of interest.
Some of it was fun.
I love going to this museum!
It was a great place to visit. It takes about 2 hours. The docents were very informative and helpful. Enjoy our visit.
Great rotating exhibits and great fixed exhibits detailing the history of Mobile. Beautiful architecture that stands out (in a good way) from the modern skyscrapers surrounding it.
Enjoyed, so many different displays
Loved the 60s display...lots of memories.
More interesting than I Thought that it Would be and a very Enjoyable Experience~!
Its a fabulous place! Highly recommend it!
Great and very interesting history of Mobile, including origin if Mardi Gras!
I recommend this museum if you are interested in Mobiles long history. The permanent exhibits cover the various periods from when the city was first settled to modern times. Attached is a picture of one of the French period exhibits. As of July 2018, theres a temporary exhibit on animals of the Ice Age. Cost: Two adults came to under $20. Location: Its located in what was the City Hall building at one time. If you are headed to the fort, this is located literally down the street. Time to visit: plan 2-3 hours. Parking: Depending on when you go, you may have to park by the fort or even further down Royal under the overpass. This would be free.
Very well laid out
We live in a completely different region of the United States but we wanted to see the information on display pertaining to the Civil War/ War Between States. We thought the museum represented the war very well with representation from both sides. We also recognized several other influential people in America who we had not recalled were from Alabama. We appreciated Mobile history, despite not being local. As visitors to this region, we became very conscious of the resilience of human nature and especially people from the south by viewing the timeline of Mobile. It was an amazing display depicting the numerous fires, diseases and hurricanes which affected the area. There was also a large display about Mardi gras although we didnt go through it.This museum had excellent, modern displays with very friendly and informative staff.
Ive always wanted to go. Finally had the chance to at my boyfriends Christmas party & it did not let me down. Very informative about things I did & didnt know about my native city. UPDATE: Took my son today for Titanic & he loved the museum & the Titanic stuff.
Visited July 22, 2018. This was my first visit, and I highly recommend this museum! There are a lot of exhibits showcasing Mobiles diverse history from the citys founding to the Civil War and WWI, the Great Depression, and WWII. Also theres a temporary exhibit on animals of the Ice Age, which is also interesting.Average time to visit: 2 hours.
Had a good time looking around.
I love museums and have been to several in my life. This is one of the best I have ever visited. Well layed out and beautiful. I really get a feel for their appreciation and honor that they bestow on their artifacts. This is a must visit when visiting Mobile.
A good museum about the history of Mobile.
I LOVE this place! Whether youre a history buff or not, it gives a very detailed history of the citys cultural beginnings and youll absolutely enjoy the Carnival and Entertainment portion of the museum.
Its always full of interesting facts.
Amazing place to visit! Plus got to see the Titanic exhibit.
Loved this Museum, it is small but has some really cool stuff in it
Over 300 years of history and artifacts of Mobiles history. Really cool to see
Wonderful exhibits and people were extremely helpful.
Love this place as a venue!
Great exhibits and interesting topics
Small but super interesting.
I love how the history of Mobile is told in this very informative museum.
Good place to spend few hours
F- Not work any money there is nothing there. The africa town items or history is NOT there. False advertising.
Loved the Titanic exhibit!! One of the best exhibits that they have had! They have some the artifacts from the Titanic and the sister ship the Oceania! They also have movie props too! There is a lot of historical artifacts and very interesting exhibits about the city of mobile!
Had a wonderful time, kids enjoyed it. Ige age exhibit was great! Will definitely go back to see new exhibits with the kiddos.
Very well laid out and reflects fabulously interesting history of this important city.
Really loved it. The titanic exhibit was fantastic. Front desk cashier wasnt to friendly. But overall a great visit
Beautiful building. Trolly history tour is so worth it.
The History Museum of Mobile is a great little museum for the locals and tourists. It holds permanent exhibits as well as special touring exhibits of various topics. There are educational opportunities for teachers and the public. It should be on your list of places to visit in Mobile.
A good place to spend an afternoon learning
My mom and I went here during the Explore Mobile event so we got in for free! Theres so much to see that we didnt even see it all.
Love the museum. I could spend days there and still not see everything.
Good exhibit. far too many objects not identified at all, not conducive to full understanding of exhibit. i was greatly disappointed in my home town. its long history is poorly explained to both locals and travelers. Im a history buff & quite knowledgeable but some of the displays were beyond my knowledge, therefore I was unable to explain them to my grandchildren. one case in point is the mast band in the maritime area. luckily i knew what it was & could explain but many others passed me by.the city needs to get its act together & better document the museum & fort conde.
