What a precious experience we had at Oakleigh House during our cross country trip! The Southern Belles volunteers gave us a very detailed walk through the house in a friendly and personable fashion, and were all knowledgeable and original in their own way.We learned a lot about the history, customs and way of life during the generations and various owners of this house. They also siggestd a few eateries in New Orleans (our next stoo) which turned out to be a huge success. A must do experience when traveling through Mobile AL!

Not my favorite, but still very interesting. This home was built around 1830 and was aquired by the city of mobile in the 1950s. Not a lot of original artifacts inside the home. The city of mobile has stocked the house with plenty of antiques from the 1800s though. A clock made in London on the second floor is the oldest antique in the home. Lots of photos, oil paintings and lots to read. The historian tour guide was very helpful.

Great tour of the historic Victorian Oakleigh House. Our guide was very sweet and seemed to love telling us the history of the different familes that owned the house before it became an historic site.

Went to Oakleigh House for a school project. It is so beautiful. The tour is very educational and fascinating. Enjoyed learning the history of the house and the time period. The grounds have an oak tree that is 300 years old as well as some of the prettiest Camellias that I have ever seen.

This home and tour were very underwhelming. Definitely disappointed in this home and tour. The home smelled dirty and we definitely didnt see the image portrayed on the website. Half the home was unavailable for the tour. In my opinion, it was not well kept and although the staff were knowledgeable, she seemed unprepared for tours. Only one staff member on duty and we didnt see any of the southern bells they depict online.

We were visiting Mobile for the day and had really planned to tour the Bragg Mitchell Mansion, but as they were closed for an event, we visited Oakleigh instead and were not disappointed. Both the house and the grounds were beautiful--it was azalea season and it was in full, gorgeous bloom! We really enjoyed the tour and hearing the stories of the families who lived in the house and seeing their things. Some really fascinating architecture, including the giant pocket doors and the windows with the half doors. Just a great example of American history and were glad we visited!

Nice tour but someone needs to explain to the lovely young (16yo docent) belle that slavery was WRONG and not a matter of opinion. It doesnt matter how nice they were to their slaves (I guess nice is better than the alternative).

Great little property, with fascinating period pieces in the huge house, interesting history, and surrounded by absolutely beautiful live oaks. The guided tour was very informative and was very worth the cost. I almost wish we had more time to view all of the little pieces in each room.

Disappointed. It was closed for flea infestation due to hot weather. It would have been nice to know ahead of time instead of driving all the way there and closed. We are on vacation and will not be able to visit.

Wow, what a place! The grounds (live oaks), waterfall garden, and the large home were simply amazing. I was greated promptly in the gift shop and shown the restroom prior to the tour. Facilities were clean and doors closed and latched (a treat in an older home).Great tour commenced of the upper level of the home with a discription of owners, their families, businesses, and times. The home is well maintained and filled with period paintings, mirrors, antique furniture, china dishes. Beautiful textiles too. The upper front outside staircase needed some maintenance (falling apart) but rest of home was in excellent condition.Dont miss this home! Its in a charming neighborhood and is one of the nicest homes to tour in town.

I absolutely loved Oakleigh! We were lucky enough to take our tour with the manager, and she knew so much about the place. Ill admit I was kind of apprehensive when I got there because the outside is in some desperate need of renovations, but Im so glad we decided to take the tour anyways.
