I have some very special memories of the Rivoli Theater . I remember the man who used to own, or run it, i think his name was Jack, he used to give me hot dogs with whatever i wanted on them . He took me behind the screen where there was a storeroom, where they kept the candy and supplies . There was someone who lived over the theater, i think a brother of his, or brother in law . Anyway, i always got in free, with free eats, anything that i wanted, usually a soda and hot dog . He was such a nice guy . Those days were the good old days and are long gone now, 1965 - 1970 . I remember walking to the theater from Sturm and Arsenal . 10th street would have a magical look around Christmas time, with snow falling, and the lights lighting the night up . How nice it would be to be able to turn the hands of time back . My parents would still be alive .

Many years ago, when I first moved to Indy, I lived on LaSalle and could walk down to the Rivoli for live concerts. At the time, I didnt realize that some of the people Id see here would be famous later in life. Kris Kristoffersen, Bill Wilson, Leo Kottke, Renaissance and others whose names have faded from memory. Its been many years since this old theater hosted some really good live concerts and so sad to see it deteriorate to what it is today - a shell of a better time.My understanding that some are trying to restore this old treasure of the neighborhood and would love to see it come back to life, but dont know if it would be enough to help revitalize the area. Used to be a nice older neighborhood. So sad to see what it has become, but perhaps one day soon, it too will have its Renaissance.

The Rivoli is one of the oldest theaters in the state of Indiana. And the first theater to show movies with sound. Built in 1920 by Universal Studios. Work is being done to restore this iconic theater on the near east side of Indianapolis.

I guess this is historical place. I was working days Ive been by and when asked to Shar info and pic I was kinda shocked. Area around here isnt a place really want to be walking around. People Ive ran into arent necessarily who you want to run into in alley. On my last visit was a guy wearing a mask screaming at police that were in middle of arresting a couple people

The roof is gone. The area is teaming with criminals and losers all day and all night. Not worth seeing in person.
