This theatre is a great place to see a stage play. The cast are always good performers and stage presence is great. The seating is comfortable and I appreciate them having ushers to help with seating. Everyone works here are nice, they offer a great discount for veterans. Its a wonderful experience for the whole family to enjoy.
The theater is great but you cant hear the actors. They have no mic, no speakers and the actors sound horrible shouting all their lines. Half of the people going there have hearing aids and you cant hear anything over crinkling chip bags. The theater does not have the acoustics to not have a mic and speakers. For the love of god, invest in a sound system already.
This is such a beautiful theatre! The architecture alone is worth stopping in to see. The entire staff was friendly and knowledgeable. There was a wet bar so you were able to enjoy a cocktail before the show. My husband and I watched 12 Angry Men and were completely impressed by the cast. The stage floor rotated so you could see multiple angles throughout the scenes. There did not appear to be any bad seats in the house. Our experience has caused us to become IRT members. ️
Fantastic theater for plays and for Education. I’ve been to several events here and never been greeted by a staff me ever with anything less than obvious enthusiasm. Most recently I was here for a young play writers event for middle school/high school. Every single person involved, from the host to the actors, made this small event feel like a big deal! Their passion for their work, and sharing their work with young people, really shined. Love this place!
I went on s school field trip and was delighted with their service from the time we got off the bus until we left. The workers were all knowledgeable and polite. Made sure we were very well taken care of the entire time we were under their care. The Christmas Carol was a fantastic production and we will definitely come back for more shows!
Charming but a bit small entry that can feel a bit crowded. However, a good little theater. No bad seats pretty much but away from the edges, even if it means a few rows further back is probably a better buy. I dont know if its the case for every production but the stage was heavily angled towards the audience the times I have been there, which makes it easy to see the entire action.
A Christmas Carol was excellent! I came in a field trip with 8th grade students and they thoroughly enjoyed the show. The acting is wonderful, the special effects are amazing and the theater itself is beautiful. Highly recommended!
Beautiful theater and good sight seeing
Inhabited by ghosts!Went to see A Christmas Carol on 12/07Venue was lovely, staff friendly and helpful, very enjoyable. But *so* haunted by spirits of Christmases Past,Present, and Future...
If youve lived in Indy for a while (like I have) but havent checked out the IRT, definitely give it a visit!
Talk about having a wonderful afternoon. Catching the opening matinee of 12 Angry Men at a great downtown location at the perfect time of day. This theatre is so packed with history and very intimate seating that you cant help but enjoy yourself.
This venue is so intimate. Not a bad seat in the house. Saw Murder on the Orient Express during its first pre preview night. A bit of a sound issue at the beginning but it was fixed quickly and hey, thats what pre previews are for. Excellent cast. I enjoyed myself emensley.
Every seat is great and the show I watched was really special. I sat in the mezzanine (which is the balcony) and view is fantastic. It really is a small theater. Make sure to ask an attendent about a parking voucher if you parked at the Circle Center Parking Garage. I only had to pay $3 to park there! Also, it pays to Google ahead of time to know which garage is closer. I parked at the Moon Garage, which was fairly close for youngish legs. :-)
The actors wore many hats and their enthusiasm was incredible. Thank you all for making our first Scrooge experience so awesome!!
This theatre is the best offering downtown. The production of 12 Angry Men to open the 2019 season was exceptional. Everything about it, stage. directing, acting, simply awe inspiring. Thank you IRT for bring fine theatre acting to Indy!!
Absolutely beautiful and historic part of Indianapolis. Must go for plays. They also hold the best dinner events with amazing food.
Good theater. Im not really into that kinda stuff but Ive been a few times and it was pretty fun.
LovedA Christmas Carol. I had a great time. Actors did a great job!!
It was a superior play with excellent actors/actress. Everyone needs to see this play. Funny and sentimental
I love the IRT. The building is awe-inspiring. The upper floor displays of costumes and set designs from different plays is informative and thought-provoking. The coffee was mediocre, which is why I docked it a star, but its pretty easy to fix. The views from our seats were excellent and the bathrooms were clean. Parking was easy (or you can take the Red Line!) and not expensive. You can valet if you feel like treating yourself. The IRT always has a play or two that appeals to my limited taste and I love to support live theatre -- you should too!
IRT is always a great venue to see a show -- High quality productions with excellent actors. I highly recommend IRT!
Have seem multiple plays at IRT and always look forward to the next one. There are some details to attend to: carpet needs work, ushers can overlook food items being carried in which usually leads to messes. Restrooms are very tidy.
There isn’t a bad seat in the theater at the IRT. “A Christmas Carol” was amazing!
Upper Stage perfect venue for And So We Walked, a beautiful one-woman show, intense and deeply personal. Intimate space for an intimate subject.
Fabulous actors made creative use of set. All seats are good, and acoustics are great!
Always a great seat. The shows are good, too.
This is a wonderful place to see a play. They have several stages and the staff members are kind. There is merchandise for sell in the lobby. The place is currently decorated for the holiday season. This location has a bar and a concession stand. I have been several times with friends, I have been alone, and with children. Parking can be validated at specific locations, if you inquire about it. Visit this place, you are bound to enjoy yourself!
Plenty of History and interesting plays. Beautiful place
Went to see You cant take it with you. It was a good performance on opening night. That said one character missed his cues a couple of times and forgot one of his lines. The humor didnt really come through until the third act.
It is a beautiful place lots of history there. I am 79 and my wife is 77. My wife has been to this theatre several time. The play that we saw there was put together with taste and class we really enjoyed It.
Always a wonderful time here watching any of their shows. The only complaint I have is that their sale agents will hound and call you persistently to sell you season tickets.
Enjoyed the performance! Will definitely attend another show.
I love it cause I went there on a field trip and it was amazing
Watched the Christmas Carol and it was good. The seats were not the most comfortable but all in all a good time.
Beautiful theater with generous staff. Old but comfortable seating. Temperature is not well regulated. Has spacious stairs and an elevator
The IRT is a beautiful building. I attended the matinee performance today...Diary of Anne Frank. The cast did an amazing job. They stayed after to do a 20 minute Q&A. It was really wonderful. I’m going again Sunday. I also agree with a previous reviewer by saying I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house.
There is so much excitement and anticipation as the curtain rises. The music starts and the lights fade. Take a trip to beyond your imagination to the world on stage and be transported to the wonder that is live theater!
Season ticket holder for a few years, always enjoyed going, clean, good acoustics, just a great venue.
We went to see A Christmas Carol. It was an amazing show. The actors and actresses were great. We got second row seats, but it didnt seem like there was a bad seat in the house. So if the price of premium seats seems like too much, I would still get the basic if you want to see the play.
Beautiful theater and wonderful performance. Ill be returning.
Love going here with kids! Its such an amazing experience for them! Very kid friendly and the staff are always really nice and professional! Im sure some of my kids would love to pursue a career in theater because of their experience. Awesome job IRT!
Absolutely wonderful! Great hospitality! Wonderful plays!
Ive been to the IRT many times, usually for field trips. Its nice to see the small renovation thats going on.
The place was nice. The play excellent. The only downside is that it is in the heart of downtown Indy. So there are multiple homeless people close at hand and that is a shame it just makes you a little edgy late at night.
An amazing performance of A Christmas Carol 2019! Bravo!
I went to see The Diary of Anne Frank and it was amazing. Also the building is very beautiful and charming. They have a museum area upstairs and the have a snack bar for during intermissions.
My husband and I really enjoy our date nights at the IRT. We would love to see something new around Christmas time. There are so many Holiday stories they could adapt to the stage. The Christmas Carol is wonderful but you can only see it so many times. Not a complaint rather a suggestion.
Great play and actors, we go every year
My son attended the production of Anne Frank with his school. He said it was fabulous beginning to end. Beautiful theater! The organization of the staff was great.
Excellent performance. Intimate small theatre
Went here for a field trip with my son. The play was very good and staff was nice. The wait for everything to start and get out was a bit much. However I was there with hundreds of 5th graders so that couldve been the issue.
Love the production ofA Christmas Carol
Good show. Never really had a bad seat there.
Quality venue. Better show
This place was great! The acting was phenomenal ! It was amazing to watch and I thought it was terrific! It amazes me how well people can act. I have been here twice and plan to go again!
We just saw Twelve Angry Men tonight and it was an excellent presentation! I highly recommend it.
Every performance we have seen has been excellent!
And We Walked was an absolute amazing performance.
Great place to see plays, with a wide variety of genre. Nice parking discount at the mall which is a short walking distance away.
Saw a lovely play! Valet parking was very convenient. Gorgeous theatre.
The theater is easy to get to and play was great
Always a great show by IRT!
Definitely a national historic landmark. The on beyonces amazing and the set up in the feel of the place is nostalgic. Aside from that they have amazing shows here.
Beautiful historical theatre with fabulous productions! Very talented actors with many thought provoking plays. Highly recommended! A great way to support local arts!
You Cant Take It With You was one of the best productions Ive seen at IRT. So fun and fast paced! I love IRT and the high level of theatre it brings to the Indianapolis area. Well done one and all!
Absolutely beautiful venue. I love the coziness of the theater. I am not a big fan of navigating downtown Indy and looking for parking. The IRT did however provide parking vouchers for those attending performances there. I highly recommend attending performances at the IRT.
I was drawn in from the moment I came in to visit this place from details of the architecture to the friendly staff who operate this place. I purchased tickets to see the diary of Anne Frank and it was so moving to observe a part of thier life and hope they escape. I highly recommend this show and this theater.
A classic beautiful theater.
We really enjoyed the performance!
Fabulous production of A Christmas Carol!
Wonderful experience with great staff! Very helpful. Awesome field trip for school kids. The cast of A Christmas Carol were fantastic!
Very much enjoyed that play amber waves. Wonderful story of the family farm challenges in the heartland.
Good food and nice atmosphere.
We saw Doll House Part 2 and really enjoyed it. The set was phenomenal and the actors really gave me the feels
Just sAw 12 Angry Men, it was extremely well done. The venue itself is a wonderful place to watch a play
Fabulous structure with quality plays. Great seating. Highly recommend Diary of Anne Frank.
Enjoyed the show, and the price is right with discounts. Do NOT give them your phone number though. They will call you over and over and over to solicit surveys and sell you more tickets.
This is our last season of attending IRT...After over 25 years of attending, the recent plays think using the F*** word is normal language. I hope these people dont use this offensive word in their personal lives as they think they need to use it on these production..Yes, Ive heard the argument that it is a form of expression... Sorry, I dont agree...
A long time patron, love it.
This is a wonderful place to see a play. I saw Pipeline and was really impressed. The location, atmospheres, facilities, and staff were all great!
Beautiful theater. Saw Piggy and Elephant with grand daughters class. Attendants were very helpful.
As usual, the play was very well performed. Powerful and thought provoking. Only 2 performances left. Go see it.
We enjoyed Anne Franks dairy performance here. Great place.
As a hearing impaired person this was a semi disappointing experience..IRT should invest in some face microphones I could barely hear half of play. Im sorry, but some of the actors could hardly project their voices enough to be heard especially, the females and children. I will not be returning unless sound quality improves significantly.
