We have religiously chosen this venue as our family reunion retreat for about 8 years now. Each year we book 2 large condominiums to accommodate 20+ family members. We love the option to swim on the beach or in the lazy river and pools. They keep the condos in pristine condition and they make the check in and out clear and painless. The location is in the middle of a strip with just enough restaurants, but not too much clutter during the busy seasons. All amenities are kept clean and amid this pandemic, they have implemented many safety precautions to help us feel safe and as worry free as possible. There are many spots to enjoy if you are coming with a significant partner to get away, but plenty of things to do with family. They even have a private dock and you can go crab fishing if you bring a net and bucket.There is plenty of nightlife options within walking distance. The pools and lazy river run late for some nice chill evenings with bbq grills all around. You can rent large umbrellas and chairs on the beach for a reasonable price if you are flying in.We have 20+ people every year for many different interests and preferences and this is the only location we have found that makes everyone happy. I highly recommend!!

Nice place. We stayed Bayside and my family loved the Lazy River and pools. We went over to the beach side and spent time at the private beach which was great and at hotel next door.

Loved our stay! Looking at the reviews I had no idea the resort was so big and had a gulfside and beachside but the walkway over the highway was so perfect. We loved going to the beach in the morning and spend the afternoon in the lazy river. The lazy river had bbq pits, tables, spa and pools around it and we absolutely enjoyed it so much. We stayed on the villa side and although our room was still small for a family of 4 we will definitely be back and look for a 2 bedroom.

This was a great place to stay. Easy friendly check in and plenty of access to all amenities. You also had access to two other resorts pools and such right next door. We had a great time with our family and would highly recommend it.

Great place to vacation. We were in one of the gulf side condos. Views were great and rooms were nice. Plenty of swimming amenities for young kids to enjoy. Only downside is the day of check-in and having to wait on your room. They didnt call me until 6:00 when we were out to eat at supper. Thats 8 hours they had time to clean our room. Definitely need more house cleaning staff to better that process. Other than that, great place.

The condo was perfect for our family! Our two girls (4 and 2) loved having their own ‘room’ with the bunk room and adjoining bath. Unobstructed views of the gulf. Quick beach and pool access. Clean. Looking forward to our next trip!

Check in is easy but parking and finding your room is a hassle. We stayed in pelican. The room was very clean and spacious with a view of the pool and beach. The room also came with beach chair service. I recommended getting a room with chair service if your a beach person. The chairs are first come first serve and people are there at 8 am to claim theirs. I also love the lazy river pool. That was my favorite place to be. The atmosphere is great.

Well it was very nice and very happy with access to beach and board walk area. the pools felt so good swimming in after all the jelly fish arrived lol.

Great vacation!! The lazy river, pools, & beach were excellent!! The condo was comfortable for 6 people! Just one suggestion... needs a larger coffee pot! I enjoyed sitting outside on the balcony in the mornings drinking coffee & looking out at the bay & lazy river. Excellent vacation spot!️

Love this facility and stay every year here, primarily on the bayside. Love the lazy river, although this year was way busier and more hectic than normal during this time of year (I guess due to Covid.)

Destin west vacay was great! my family really enjoyed the condo which was a pent house, the only dissapointment was that the hot tub was not working and the microwave though they gave us another microwave and refunded hot tub cleaning fee. We Enjoyed the lazy river and off course the white sand at the beach. Will definately return.

We have gone back the last 6 years and have enjoyed it every year! The only hiccup we ran in to (which is not their fault) was the company responsible for chairs and umbrellas (La dolce) did not follow protocol for first come first serve. It appears that people were reserving and/or paying the employees to reserve spots in the morning. Really unfair considering we got to the beach at 8:45 to get our spot. Other than that, the place is amazing and we will continue to go back every year!

Stayed gulf side with gulf view. Totally worth the extra $. Saw dolphins every day from the porch. Some rooms come with free beach umbrellas and chairs saving you loads of money. Much more relaxed location than Destin just a few miles away. Bay side has an awesome lazy river that you can visit even if you stay gulf side.

Weve been coming here for years. Except that one year with circumstances beyond anyones control, its great. Always have a wonderful time, even the bad year!

PLEASE READ WHOLE REVIEW!The resort and staff were amazing! Beach and pool access were very easy to walk to, and there were plenty of space for chairs, even on the busiest days! Access to the adjoining resorts pools and bars were a huge bonus!The villa V409 was clean, stocked well with dishes, and cooking pans. Nice balcony area, and comfortable couch. It had a closet, which is a bonus imo.The mattresses in the bedroom and couch however were horrible. They were old, coil style, covered in plastic, and need replacing badly!So why only 4 stars?There were minor incidents that could easily have been rectified. There was only 2 rolls of tp to last a family of 4, for a weeks stay. when I asked for an additional roll, I was told they only provided 2. Same response for additional trash bags. This would not be an issue, except we were not told this ahead of time, nor was it mentioned in the booking notes.Beach chairs and umbrellas! Be prepared to pay $$$!!!We were never told we would have to pay for them, or even told we had to reserve them!The persons that managed them on the Beach are very rude.the company is LDV.We walked down to the beach at 0800, there were probably 50 or more setup. We sat in a set towards the front of the beach. About an hour later, an employee told us we had to move, they were reserved. He told us that the reservation line had already booked all the chairs. When I asked where do we reserve, he pointed to the resort Beach access point. WE WALKED RIGHT BY THAT AREA TO GET HERE AND THERE IS NO LINE OR SIGNS STATING ANY OF THIS! BEWARE!He then threatened us with security if we did not leave. I asked if we could rent the chairs and he said no, they were completely booked up. We setup towels behind the rows of chairs, and about 1100 he put up a daily rental sign. guess what? nobody ever sat in those chairs! BTW, 1/2 day is $25, full day $50 +taxesThe pools and lazy river area is awesome! (Bring your own tube or inflatable to avoid waiting for one)I will definitely stay here again though!

Our condo was very roomy for our family. The weather was not so good so spent some time in the condo.

Visited during July 2020, everyone was very considerate and kept a good distance from one another. The pool areas where regularly disinfected. All the restaurants, arcades and fun centers had good precautions in place.

Its a good resort. Be prepared for a lot of walking no matter where you stay on the resort. If youre on the Bayside, youll have to deal with a long walk to the beach, where you will be unable to find a spot (because theres maybe a 50 yard strip of beach that the resort owns) prompting you to walk left, past the next resort, to the public beach. Plenty of pool spaces for those who dont want to do the walk or just want to catch a break from the heat. Having the bay is a plus, makes for enjoyable night strolls.

Our family has stayed with Destin West for almost two decades. The convenience of the resort and its amenities are what keep us coming. Our room had spectacular views of the bay to include the sunrise and sunset.However, this last trip has us looking at the surrounding resorts. Destin West is starting to show its age. Our room was somewhat grimy. There was mold growing around one of the vents. More mold around the corners of the walls and ceiling. Our nightstand lamps had stains on the shades. There was quite a lot of dust in common areas such as dressers and nightstands. With COVID around, this is not something you want to see.The lazy river was quite dirty every day, even with regular cleaning. There are lots of broken tiles, mildew, and mold around the buildings and common areas. The elevators were filthy with no ventilation.We still love Destin West but we may think twice before staying here again.

Loved the views, great location with a lot less traffic then what we ran into in Destin. Walk to the Beach from the bay side was a bit far, but the lazy rivers and pools were a plus. The resteraunt nextdoor was a disappointment, overpriced and super greasy.

The Amenity Resort:+2 Stars - The Amenities. Beach access, Lazy River, Pools, Spa & Free Tubes! :D+1 Star - For the Views. We got a corner apartment facing the beach and it was amazing! The Sun Rises were amazing.+1 Star - Good Location. Almost everything is at a walking distance. Place is surrounded by activities and eateries.Minus 1 Star - The Bathrooms dont lock! Room service sucks.

We have been coming here for around 5 years and have enjoyed it. My 1 star is because of how bad it is getting at night around the lazy river. Too many disrespectful teens. My 5 year old daughter was almost hit in the head twice by a football. A lazy river is not supposed to be a sports plex.

Awesome place! Our extended family rented 3 more condos and we had a wonderful family reunion and vacation here! Disappointed that the lazy river was cold this year and the hot tub jets werent working well this year, and the volley ball tournament brought a untastefully disrespectful crowd, needed some security staff to keep them quiet and such, but overall, we had a wonderful time at this property.

Very nice place

The lazy river is the longest on the gulf coast. The complex is huge with condos and pools on both the bay and ocean side. Centrally located on okaloosa island etween Destin and Fort Walton Beach. its just a 10 minute drive to Destin to the east or fort Walton to the west with plenty of restaurants.

Great for family fun. Kids loved the pools, beach was just a short walk away and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Room was very nice, overlooking the bay. Will definitely come back

We love this place! We stayed here for years and the lazy river bay side is the best. If you want to go the beach there is two poils on the beach side and a splash pad for little kids.

We had a PHENOMENAL time in our condo Osprey #401 ! It was extremely spacious, great views of the bay and from one of the rooms a great view of the ocean. The Lazy river and Pool were also amazing! Our kids had a great time and loved we could walk over to the beach in a safe manner with the bridge. Thank you for making our 1st visit to Destin so memorable, comfortable and convenient! We will definitely come back to stay at the Destin West Vacations!

The room was first class. Beautiful view from the balconies. The staff and owner are very friendly. Good atmosphere. The rooms were VERY clean. We could not have stayed at a better place. We will definitely be back!!!

Heron building, unit 303 - beautiful condo, resort amenities were all fantastic, lazy river was nice but chilly. Views and corner balcony were a huge plus. This unit was one of the nicer ones we have seen in our many trips to destin/ft walton beach. Only downfall was the early checkout time (10 am) which is extremely hard to do when you have four small kiddos travelling with you. Another plus is being walking distance to the boardwalk and a few good restaraunts. I would recommend the resort add some sort of signage for beach access from the bayside units.. We figured it out with some common sense, but a map or directions to the sky walk or something wouldve been nice and saved some time.

We loved Destin West! The amenities were a dream for my kids--especially the lazy river. Our condo had a couple of things that needed fixing (the tub wasnt draining correctly) and maintenance was there within 2 hours to fix it. The condo wasnt fancy, but was bigger than I thought from the pictures and worked great for our family of 5. It was a pricey stay for us, but was a great location!

The resort is so dated to start with. Great location but very odd getting around it, no good flow at all. You can tell its been added onto several times. The room we stayed in was 1990s at best. I would have considered it OK for a $89.00 motel room not a $320+ a night resort. When I went to the front desk and told them how bad our room was they knew which room we were in because it was the worst and told me that. I asked the manager to make an adjustment to my bill since they admitted it was bad. I called and left messages three times after returning home. Not even a call back.

Great place would highly recommend. Friendly staff. Nice people that live there. Just a great place for the whole family to have a great time.

We celebrated our 36 anniversary with this trip. Loved having beach chairs and an umbrella that came with the rental! The pools were great too! Our rental was perfect for two.

We had a blast on the lazy river and floating in the pool. And the view of the bay from our balcony was beautiful.

Have been going to this location for many years with my family of four and have been very happy with everything for the most part. This is the first time renting from destin west vacation rentals. It was nice except the floors were so dirty I had to wear something on my feet to keep the from turning black. There were no extra blankets for beds. No extras of anything. The beach chair rental situation has become worse and worse over past few years. Now if you don’t pay $25-$35 dollars for a chair you are forced to not sit close to water or have to walk a good ways to be next to water if you can find a place. The bubbles on hot tubs haven’t worked in years. I will keep going back again unless it just gets worse or they do not improve some of the things I mentioned.

It was an absolute wonderful vacation. The property was nice. Pools, lazy river, beach and common areas were well kept. The staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed in Villa 306, it was clean and comfortable. The pull out couch and the bed were not comfortable at all and every time a person moved it was loud. The room is very small, but nice. We payed with taxes and fees 1160.00 for 3 nights in peak season. I felt that was reasonable for what we got. There was enough activities that nothing was crowded. It was good. However, my only true complaint (besides the beds) is the chair and umbrella company. Their are way too many on the beach and it blocks the views and doesn’t allow for people that want to bring their own chairs. The beach wasn’t crowded with people, but chairs and umbrellas. We were also allowed access to the amenities next door, they have a great pool and hangout area. That was a plus! We would go back again, just get a different room with more room and privacy.

Washing machine smelled like it was burning. It flipped circuit breaker. Microwave would no other work on a higher power. Lock on patio door would no lock. Lighting was very dim in bathroom. Particularly in toilet area. Light bulb blew up and shattered over bathtub. The unit needs updating.

316 Gulfside had a fantastic view of the gulf and lovely outdoor furniture to enjoy. I felt for the cost of the week the unit needs some updating, and there was an odd smell that could not be remedied throughout our stay. Carpeting is difficult to keep clean through multiple rentals and there was carpeting in each of the bedrooms. The multiple fake plants throughout did not add to the decor, and were very dusty. Grout in the master bath and shower was dirty with mold in the shower caulking that was pulling away from the sides of the shower.People staying with children, need to be aware that this unit is above the hot tub area where people party, very loudly, until at least 11pm each night, when the pool area technically closes. After the resort office closes there is no-one to contact with issues unless its an emergency such as being locked out of your unit (it states this on the after hour voicemail). I also felt that I could hear the units around us more than other condo resorts we have stayed. The master bedroom shares the wall with the living room of the unit next door and we could hear full conversations and television shows. This made sleeping difficult for the entire family.The proximity to gulf beach, daily chair service and clean pool area were positives, but the noise and outdated unit were not worth the cost of our stay and I would not choose again.

This is our annual Beach vacation place. We usually get one of the large corner units in Osprey on the bay side. These easily accommodate two large families. There is a sky bridge connecting the two resorts, their swimming pools, and providing access to the beach. Plenty of aquatic options for the kids to take advantage of.

Supposed to be a one bedroom and bed was separated by wall with opening in it! Shutters between bed & bathroom so had to make sure they were completely closed before taking a bath. Was not what I was expecting but it was okay. Stayed in villa no view paid for a gulf view. Sky bridge to get to other building across road for lazy river. Water on beach was full of seaweed!

Room was changed prior to our arrival which resulted in increased rate, not good. Room was not clean, pool dirty, no blankets in room, had to buy one first night before they were supplied. Limited utensils, washing machine very loud. Refrigerator was not cool, fitness center dirty and no air conditioning entire trip even after complaining about it. Will not be back. Emily was courteous but that was about it. We have stayed here for years and noticed a BIG drop off last time so I gave it another try, never again. Felt cheated on the money I spent for our family vacation. Sorry, but it’s the truth.

This hotel was very close to the beach but there are a number of things that they dont mention when you book. 1.) partial view means there is no view. 2.) only certain hotel rooms get free beach chairs, others have to pay $35 a day. You dont have any say in which room you are in so its just a 50/50 chance on if you have to pay out of pocket for beach chairs. 3.) you do not get any hospitality service so hang up your towel everyday so that you can have a dry towel after your shower. 4.) the mattresses/sheets need a serious update. We fought over who got to sleep on the couch because it was so much nicer. 5.) there is no ice maker on site.

We stayed on the gulf side in room 403. It was just my husband and I, but could have fit up 2 more guests comfortably. We loved this condo. It was beautifully decorated and the view from our balcony was amazing! We totally want to stay here again.

Love the place, beautiful sunrises and sunsets is a must see. White sand beachs is my favorite of all.

I went to Destin with my family for a vacation! It was good at first, the rooms were great and the pool/beach was awesome. But, I have many complaints. First, when we checked in the lady was not very informative and had an attitude. We were so excited to be here but her attitude ruined the first few seconds we got there after a long trip. She didnt tell us how to get to the beach, where our room was, what building we were in, if there were any activities, how to get to the pool, rules, parking, etc. She gave us a booklet and just let us go. We were left in the dust. We found our room and building ON OUR OWN. We got settled, and headed immediately for the beach. Only thing was, we had no clue how to get there. We had to ask many different guests for the location. Finally we headed over the bridge WITH THE DIRECTIONS OF OTHER GUESTS and made it to the beach. We assumed we would have seating from the hotel. Obviously we were wrong. You had to RESERVE seating. It is $39 for one set up of two chairs and an umbrella. Ridiculous. After a couple days of just sitting in ones unreserved, we were asked to buy them or else. Mind you, I have a family of 7. This $39 price is for one day. After a couple days of being at the beach and learning ON OUR OWN we went out to eat. As we were walking around and getting some food, we saw all these activities to do that none of us knew about. With 5 children, this wouldve been helpful to know. I never leave reviews like this but we paid good money for this trip. I think we are all fed up.

Nice place to stay. Everything we needed in the Condo. Furniture was a bit outdated and both TV,s were a bit small. Had Villa-Penthouse on the Gulf side, beautiful view. Road noise from Miracle Strip Pkwy was bad. Hot tub, pool was nice. 3rd time staying at Destin West. Great Value for the location.

So I really enjoyed the lazy river, pools and hot tubs! However, we stayed at a condo at Heron and out condo has NO locks on any of the rooms...not even in the bathrooms, which is just crazy. We booked a room that had a “queen” size bed and the descriptions vs the headline where they announced it was not both the same. One said queen and the other said full. We discovered It was actually a full sized bed. We were very disappointed they wouldn’t discount it nor do something about it. My 2 year old was supposed to sleep in the queen sized bed however we just had to use a blow up which was no fun.

The condo itself was very nice with beach access and the kids loved the pools. But our penthouse roof top deck had broken furniture and when I brought this up to the front desk I was told sorry but other units that they didnt manage had people jumping walls and destroying and stealing furniture. Please understand that if this is the case our unit was not safe because individuals could have come down this access and broken into our unit. We where told it was under investigation by security. No discount was given for not having access to what we paid for.

The condo was cute and clean and had everything we needed. The beach was so beautiful and we also enjoyed the lazy river. We would definitely go back!

Perfect location! The grounds and pools were well kept. The only thing I can say negative is that the doors into the condo and to the balcony were needing some attention. It was a struggle to get them to latch and lock,whichwas a little annoying, but we made it work. Our favorite things were the lazy river, Rockin Tacos on the boardwalk and of course the views of the bay from the balcony. We stayed in The Pelican building #602. Overall a great experience and would definitely stay here again.

Stayed in the bay side. Pool was awesome. Walk to beach was a little long like 3 elevators, a ped bridge etc. Condos are a good size. We had 5 adult and one child.

It should be noted that the units are individually owned and outfitted differently. We stayed bay side. The unit we stayed in was amazing. Our family of 5 was very comfortable. The first thing that caught my eye was all of the landscaping around the pools. A lot of attention and care is done here. Pools were setup great and were very clean. There is quick access to boat rentals next door, and an accessible marina if you need to park and make a run. This was a great experience, we will be back next year.

Beautiful yet very pricey

The resort is a great place andis a lot of fun for the whole family. But keep an eye on your belongings. My grandson had his slides (flip flops) stolen and also his little brothers stroller was stolen.

Overall, it was a good stay. We were disappointed that our check-in time of 4:00 wasnt an option because our room wasnt ready, so we had to sit in our car until it became ready. Another issue we had was not being allowed to use our own floats in the pool. My five year old was playing on her turtle float, and a lady made us take it from her because it wasnt allowed...that was annoying. Other than those two things, it was great.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The facility and the unit we were in were very nice. The family enjoyed all the different pool options and the gym was nice. My biggest problem is the beach, which is why I subtracted 1 star. The chair/umbrella vendor takes up the ENTIRE area setup for Destin West. If you do not want to rent a spot, you are forced to be back away from the ocean. I felt this was rude for Destin West to allow the vendor to do this. Do yourself a favor and walk down to the public beach area if you dont want to rent.

Property is beautiful and located in a great location—close to watersport rentals, pier, shopping, and restaurants. Unit itself, Heron PH #4, is an amazing unit. Very roomy, comfortable beds, beautiful view, private hot tub. Lazy River was close and pools were clean and very nice. The only reason I am not giving this property 5 stars is the slow response to maintenance request. I emailed “Mala” the contact on the business card we received upon check in on a Tuesday morning to let her know that our outside lights were out, and the a/c in the master bedroom did not appear to work. I got no response. So I called at 5pm, when we arrived back to our unit and also added to that service request that the microwave went out. She said they wouldn’t get to it until tomorrow morning as maintenance had left for the day. The next day, maintenance didn’t show up until 1pm and did not know anything about the microwave. He wrote down the model of the microwave and said he would get back to us about it. As 5pm approached, I called the front desk who knew nothing about the microwave, although I had emailed once, called once and spoke directly to maintenance. I had to email the owner directly who got the ball rolling apparently. The microwave was finally replaced Thursday evening, 2 days later. This was after Labor Day weekend, so not many guests were there when I called. I would understand if it was very busy, but it was a ghost town on Tuesday after Labor Day. Not sure what happened here—it seems not characteristic for this property as everything else was amazing at this property. We would definitely come back again—I think this was a one off fluke.

Beach access has gotten out of hand. Have stayed here for the last 5-6 years in a row and never seen it so hard to find a place to put chairs/blankets out near the shore because the beach chair vendor had the entire coast line filled with empty chairs. Went to the front desk to ask what the deal was with all the signs on the beach and they said they didnt know anything about it. Hard to believe seeing how with a little googling a found several news stories on Destin news sites. Wish I knew this before I booked the vacation. Also worth mentioning, we went during the off season so I cant imagine what its like during the middle of the summer. Boat slip prices are crazy considering there were only three boats tied up the whole week. Why not drop the price some and get more business. Pools, gym, elevators, room, etc. were clean as usual. Pretty sure my family will try another resort next trip.

Nice place, clean with a great pool and hot tub. Only thing we didnt care for was the lady who walked the pool asking guest to show their wristbands. It was irritating after the third time in three days. I came to relax, not be hounded.

Best place on Okaloosa Island! Rare location that offers access to the beautiful Emerald Gulf Coast but also has access to the awesome bay that is a jet ski or short boat trip away from the famous Crab Island. Rentals are next door, resort has their own private docks, a sky bridge walk away from other resort locations and there pools in addition to the resorts relaxing palm tree shaded lazy river, pools and hot tubs. Go all out and get the Penthouse with roof top that has an amazing 360 views ideal for sunset bay and ocean views! The fireworks that go on all month in July are breath taking! Many of the roof tops also come with grills and hot tubs! Treat yourself and the family and you’ll catch yourself coming back every year!
