Great place to bring kids and enjoy a few hours away while still being in the city. Nice network of unpaved and paved trails to enjoy a number of activities: splash near the river, have a picnic, do some hiking, go for a bike ride. The wooded area is undergoing some significant reforestation, and the trails are not really well marked or maintained (wash outs, fallen trees, rickety bridges and stairs), but it is still a nice place to go, just with a bit of caution, especially for younger children.
This park was a welcome surprise. If you havent been, park by the bathrooms and head to the trails directly across the parking lot. They are a little hidden but well worth the search. Odds are good youll see dear if you get there early.
Never extremely crowded which if great for these trying times. Our dog loves the area and everyone seems to be wonderfully respectful of leash laws overall. Great place to get some nature love into your life.
The first time I was in this park and was satisfied. A bit dirty and quite crowded, but if I came to see and walk in the fresh air, then I succeeded. I was especially surprised to meet the white-tailed deer and his family. They allowed us to get close enough to take a picture. That was great! So if you plan to be there, dont forget to say hello to their permanent residents.
Alright but not the greatest. Too close to Chicago sirens. Too close to the road.. There is a huge mud pit if you are into that. This place could use some clean up. Parking areas number should be more magnified so all populations can find where they parked. There should be more forest rangers present. There were none when I went with my friend.
Very well kept paths, day after a big storm. Very impressed. Bike path has a few street crossings, other than that kid friendly. You can see geese, ducks, and some deer if you look closely enough.
My family and I absolutely love these woods! There are deer and beautiful trails. Nice to have a picnic too.
Perfect place to bring the family for some nature time! We always seem to find something cool here in our explorations...be it wildlife or mushrooms!
Very nice trails in a convenient location. Loud at first due to the highway but then it becomes very peaceful. Plenty of wildflowers that attract butterflies. This place is a gem.
Is a very nice place to walk with or without your dog is so many friends that you well meet welcome friends
Not bad for being in the city. Plenty of deer, even seen a muskrat.
We loved it. Lots of hidden trails. Great for walks, jogging or riding your bike. Beautiful!
Perfect place to get profiled. Its not bad enough you have Police tailgating you on the streets of Chicago and profiling, but now you cant even be alone by yourself by your car without being confused for someone breaking into a car. NO MASK, KEPT INTO LESS THAN ADEQUATE 6 FT STANDARD.I just chose a day to hang out in the woods shining up my car and apparently I chose the wrong one. Apparently we arent safe anywhere anymore.Never coming back to any of the Forest Preserve sites, im too worried ill be profiled even further. Now you have a story to tell!BOY DO I EVER.Plus on the way out the officer mentioned a high amount of break ins to vehicles in the preserve. I wouldnt trust leaving my vehicle there either.
A fine place for a picnic. There are wide expanses of mowed grass and shelters. It is always clean. Currently, social distancing is easy on weekdays.
Beautiful. The trials are some of the best in the city. Can be crowded are peak times or when weather is especially nice.
Lovely woods in the midst of crazy urban traffic and noise. Besides walking/biking trails there are nice hiking trails and surprising amounts of wildlife..deer, blue herons, egrets, toads, chipmunks. A real gem in the city.
Nice walking paths along the river and a well maintained section of the North Branch bike trail. A welcome nature oasis in the city.
Nice place 2 go 4 a morning wlk
Great woods, plenty of room for walking around while keeping distanced from people.
This is a pretty rustic wooded area on the Chicago River. Its hidden away from the neighborhood it borders. Good for taking leisurely walks.
Nice and quiet place to hang out with friends for a picnic, not too far from the city and away from the crowds.
Everyone should visit, want to go hiking, but don’t wanna travel out of the city? LaBagh has beautiful trails and a wonderful time!
Nice place to lock up your bike and walk through the woods.
Who’d have thunk there was such a lovely but of woods right off the highway at Cicero? Not I!While it was rather rainy and muddy the day my dogs and i visited, it was still lovely. The river running through makes it quite charming, though flood prone.Like all county forest preserves, dogs should be leashed, though many owners work around this....
Really nice wood . Walk paths around the park.grate for Walk and have fun .
Great place to get away from the busy city life.
Good day for a walk! Saw lots of deer as we walked along the river.
Covid friendly gathering place for less than restricted numbers. Bathrooms were clean...no odor...was pleased with how our birthday celebration turned out.
Great place to spend great family time. I wish the bathrooms were a bit more accessible and regularly cleaned though. (Due to the over saturated amount of people- not all the times.) Either way, its a nice place to have fun with friends or be alone contemplating some of natures beauty.
A nice nature oasis in the city!
Awesome place. Close to the city, enough greenery to catch a break from the urban jungle. Real nice
It was great for kids to explore the woods and along the river on a beautiful day... esp if you’re kids are city kids and not used to open nature!
Excellent step away from the big city. Easily accessible from multiple locations. Trails through woods and along river. Can even see deer within the woods!
Great place to grill and chill. You can bike or play in the fields.
Serene wetlands and forest with plenty of nature sights, like herons, raccoons, ducks, chipmunks, and hawks. A great escape from the stress of the city.
A great place to get lost in nature. It would be better if people kept their dogs on leashes.
Its a great area to have a birthday party especially from covid and having to stay 6ft away
Love this place...I take & run with my dogs....had both group areas...as well as private trails..where u see nature
Lovely place to socially distant hang out with friends, people watch, and enjoy an afternoon outdoors.
Hike, run, jog, bike. Put one some beats and enjoy the outdoors within the city.
I loved the place its like you get full package of refreshment with nature woods swamp and clear river flowing by. A great place for BBQ, play sports, ride your bycycle and hang out with your firends by the river. Go to long walk deep inside woods or sit alone in peace so near to escape crowd and be yourself for sometime.
Really pretty. Saw lots of deer.
Its beautiful, clean and very peaceful.
Great little hike in the city.
A very nice place for camping and cycling
Very nice area. Definitely recommend the more untouched paths where there are huge fallen trees seemingly blocking the way. Stumbled upon several creatures including deer.
Cool place to go for hiking and picnic.
It is fine. Its just a forest so how am I supposed to relate it.
Nice, easy walk through the wood and a great break from the city. Especially pretty after rain fall.
Beautiful trail, so nice to have forest preserves in Chicago.
Lovely place to enjoy nature.
Lots of nice trails on both sides of the river, great for nature photos.
Nice bike trails. I wish it was a little more secluded. In winter they sometimes close the walking trails so we heard a lot of highway sounds.
Great forest preserve. North Branch Trail starts near here.
The trails are uncrowded, in the middle of the city.
Its the perfect trail to take a bike ride.
Great place to take a hike or jog by yourself or with a pooch or person. Great view of the river (you walk over it and you can walk along side of it). There is lots of biodiversity, some large trees and some nice color from the graffiti along the old railroad tracks bridge. The area is very accessible but not very quiet (although quieter than youd think) considering its so close to the highway.
Great tree colors.
I had s peace time.. I enjoyed it
Beautiful place to walkIf you love nature, youll love this place
Real deer! Dramatic police at closing.
Nice park good opportunity to go hiking here
Many paths leading into woods and along the river. Large open area, too.
Really close to northwest branch biking trail
Was just an amazing day. Beautiful park. Wonderful place to relax
Amazing nature and awesome paths to walk, bike or run. Also very cool to take babies to explore nature.
I got lost cause ik pretty dumb but other than that. The experience was fun. Saw deer and all that jazz
Beautiful!!! Just dont go at night lol
I keep coming back. So much to explore!
I bike ride 20 miles every day!
Great trails and relaxing spot
Wonderful river and very preserve forest in our neighbor. We will definitely will come every weekends.
Really nice trails
Awesome natural oasis in the city limits. Saw deer
Had our company picnic here! Beautiful but we got rained on however it didn’t ruin our cookout, games, pics or drinks
You dont have to go far out of town to get your fix of nature, thanks to Labagh woods and the other amazing forest preserves around Chicago.Youve got some really well maintained wild land, open fields, hard-pack jogging trails, and a bike path which runs up to Skokie. Theres really something for everyone. Its not a huge area though, so if youre looking for something more than a quick nature walk, like an all-day activity, then this isnt for you- but in terms of proximity and convenience you cant beat it.Ive visited labagh woods a few times in the past but today (may 6th 2018) was the most fantastic.I went to see if I could find any morel mushrooms, but ended up running into the Audubon Society birdwatchers who were there watching the river for migrating warblers- of which there was a massive amount and at least 4 different species. They had binoculars and telephoto lenses- and were willing to teach me, a completely novice birdwatcher, about what we were seeing.I also saw some deer and some beautiful wildflowers, and all of that together left me feeling very fulfilled for the rest of the day!
Walked by dogs here, was very relaxing, especially along the river. Theyre was even a volunteer event ongoing, which is always great to see. Park and creek were very clean! Go nature!
Beautiful and peaceful place
Great side paths along with the river
Large fields, miles of trails. Great place to walk or run or cycle. Its a bit muddy but only a couple of spots were troublesome. If you bring your dog and they venture off the path there are lots of burrs so be prepared to clean them up afterwards.
Me and my friend come here all the time to chill and smoke!! we call these woods the tracks due to the fact there was once railroad tracks that ran through the middle of the forest preserve.awesome place to go relax and get away from the world, therapeutic!! Great place to chill with nature!!(except the mosquitos lbs)
Saw trash by the water and people using it as a bathroom.
Great for relaxing walk along the river
Short hikes perfect for kids.
