Easily one of my most cherished parks in Chicago. The nearly mile long loop has become of my favorites to walk my dog. The Nature Trail is absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. I wish I could go on it more often as I usually have my dog with me (for fellow dog-owners, please make sure to not use this trail, although I know it is tempting. They have many species of birds that will not nest there if there is dog traffic on the paths). They are currently in the middle of building a new dog park as well, which I am looking forward to. Aside from that, the massive hill on the North side of the park is one of my favorite spots in the entire neighborhood to sit with my pup, read, picnic, etc. They have basketball courts, a playground, tennis courts (with pickleball markings), baseball fields, and a soccer enclosure. Basically everything you could want in a park. This is a really well cared for park and is so beautiful.
Was happy with the ample parking available right next to the park. Also surprised by the varied landscape - nearer Montrose there is a nice sloping knoll with plenty of space to social distance beneath scattered trees. Horner is a large park with a good paved trail system for running or a stroll. A fun day at the park!
Horner Park is very nice and a safe place to go to enjoy all the park has to offer. I parked my car in the parking lot and forgot to put a window up for about 1- 1/2 hours. The car was left untouched. I really appreciated that.
Its one of the best parks in Chicago. It has it all including a dog park. I especially love the area around the Chicago river, which has been allowed to resume the natural prairie environment. This park is timeless and well loved.
Horner Park is a real treasure. The field house and field house staff provide a huge variety of service and activities including arts and woodworking along with the other things You expect from a Chicago park. The park itself has a lot of natural beauty including being adjacent to the river and having a much more rolling landscape than your average city park. It has at least two significant hills that really add character. The walking track is large and significant enough to keep it interesting rather than feeling like you are a gerbil on a treadmill.Overall a great city park.
Grew up around here.. glad they upgraded the tennis courts, and included pickleball courts as well... also cant wait to see the finished dog park! love all the space in this park
Love this park! The little trail along river is scenic and those in touch with nature will appreciate it! Watching the bees, turtles, ducks, bunnies, butterflies live amongst the beautiful wild flowers is awesome. Its amazing how these plants thrive in a relatively urban environment along the river. I am here frequently and have seen a coyote once and a chicken once (I believe it was a domesticated one that got loose but still cool, will post pics ) Highly recommend nature loves check it out if they want a mini urban hike.
AMAZING PARK LOVE THE NEW PARK ITS BEAUTIFUL!! THE CAMP WAS GREAT
Its a nice sized park for Chicago. It includes some open fields for recreation, a little wooded area where some stick huts have been made for kids to play around, several baseball fields, some nice walking paths, and a natural prairie area along the river.
One of the best parks around especially with the river walk addition and dog area. I would say the main attraction from all the years has been the huge hill in the park where people hang out, play soccer, excercise going up and down. The park is decent for playing Pokemon Go.
Awesome park! Tons of open space and ball fields. My family was able to play wiffle ball and fly kites for hours without bothering anyone. Will return soon!
It was great! Me and my friends played at the soccer courts there and had some great fun getting snacks at 7-eleven after!
Nice large park. Good escape into a bit of nature but also a lot of recreational amenities like the dog park, baseball field, tennis courts, and playground.
This place was great for my daughter and puppy. They both had fun playing in the green spaces and offers a lot of shaded areas.
The trees provide nice shaded areas along the edge of the circle/hill to lay out picnic blankets or get plenty of sunlight on the hill itself. Clean, with good walking paths.
Everyone at this park was very mindful of distancing from each other. Very fun trails for the kiddos
How many parks have a functional woodshop in the basement of their fieldhouse? Ok but Horner had Mr Eric the best shop teacher in Chicago.
Its an enormous piece of land with a bike and walking path. Ive been at several different times of day and its never too crowded. Lots of different ways to workout or just have a picnic.Nature trail, tennis courts, kids playground. Just an all around fantastic outdoor space.
Its a beautiful park, with lots of space to spread out on the paths.
Nice peaceful place nice people!! Always enjoy the visit with my dog
This is a great park in any season: lots of room to go for a run or sit down for a picnic when its warm and quite a few hills to sled when it snows. It has plenty of parking as well.
Lovely Park with nature walk, dog park, and all your standard sport and child offerings
Live nearby, it is always a wonderful place to walk, the paths by the river are really good and a nice diversion from the park, very large and easy to spend an hour walking.
The park is usually pretty clean, free of trash, and relatively well-maintained.
Lovely nature walk in bird and butterfly area along the north Chicago River
This was a pleasant surprise! Lots of walking and biking trails too!
One of my favorite parks in the city! A bit better drainage is needed around the path on the east side of the park.
I went to Lane Tech there. Theyve made some nice developments but they got rid of the soccer fields. Bummer
I sometimes run here early and it’s nicely socially distracted. I can’t attest to the capacity of the park after 7am but otherwise it is nice.
Lovely place to spend an afternoon socially distant picnicking with friends!
Great park for a few miles run, basketball courts, playground for the kids.
Lots of room for a picnic and clean bathrooms during the day.
The park is great but too many owners let their dogs off leash
The correct place to walk with the kids.
Great place to relax thank you .
The new nature trail is tranquil and scenic thanks to river
Back in the 90s Homer was considered one of the most dangerous parks in chicago, but today its the park has done a 180 and is fantastic place to spend your weekends in. Also they have special events like live performances and farmers markets.
Great walking had a cool drum circle
Large park for activities. Stay far away from others for social distancing or just because you dont like people! They will never know the real reason.
Wonderful park with a lot of good things going on
Love the bike ride... with housebent...beutifull tress.
Great park year round. And they are making new walking paths
Always fun to come here. Lots of dogs
Que nice park to relax.
Was worth of dashing until got in construction zone
Debbie should not be working here. She’s disrespectful. After trying to help her out with cleaning the floor to the gym she wanted to kick us out. As we explained that I had dust swept it for her she wants to tell me it’s my fault and walks away. As paying quest we shouldn’t be treated this way. She picks and chooses who to treat nice. She should be gone!
Huge! Nice facilities. Not great signage
This is my favorite park in the city!
Love this park- plenty of space and paths to walk, bike, run, stroll, picnic, play!
Wonderful place to walk with your dog...
One of the few non-lakefront parks to be bordered by three major streets (Montrose, California and Irving Park), its also one of the largest bordering the north branch of the Chicago River and the redo of that aspect of the park now takes full advantage of that fact. This is where got taken a few times as a kid for the playground and band practice, so I have fond memories of the place from both childhood and my adult years.
Big park. Old brick yard
Decent, but bathroom and vendors are closed.
Great off leash dog park
Theres a lot of space, big dog park, grass is mostly clean. Watch out for broken glass by the trails though.
Theres something for everyone there. Park for kids, food stands, basketball courts, tennis courts, nature trail, bike and walking path... You name it! They have the bikes you can rent By the Montrose exit and there are often fun events offered too!
Lovely walk along the river
This park is awesomely BIG. It has just about everything: playground, field house, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, a path that runs parallel to the river with lots of local plants and full of butterflies, a big hill for kids to run on and roll down, and a parking lot. Even a food truck. Its pretty awesome!
Great park for a walk.
Spent my childhood at this park it was a wonderful place back in the 80s. Now the whole park is fenced in so I really couldn’t tell you howIt is now.
This place was my childhood lol
What a beautiful park in the north center neighborhood
Even when its crowded, its roomy.
Beautiful place to walk by the river
I havent been into this park for over 10 years. I felt the atmosphere in the park is so much better now, and family oriented. Did not see gathering of teenage kids causing trouble like it did 10 years ago. I had a really good time with the family and watch a couple of little league baseball games with my kids.
Lots of good programs and activities. The wood shop is awesome.
This has to be one of the largest parks in Chicago. Dog park, basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, childrens play area, nature trail along the river, recreation building, farmers market during the warmer months.
The park is nice. However, in the winter things get messy.
Clean park, very open and inviting. Currentlythats is construction on the bridge die of Irving park road.I took my 4 dogs tho the dog park there. We frequent it a lot. In the early spring time out was a complete mud pit. The park isnt on a slant so all rain drains ought if the park. However-in the summer so far it has been amazing. If there was a hose or water water source close by it would be amazing, but the park is still in phase 1 with continued expansion and upgrades to come in the future.
Very clean and well maintained.
The new prairie trails and layout is very nice
Beautiful park with baseball diamonds, running/walking track, dog park and plenty of parking.
I love this park and sitting on the hill watching others. It has so much to watch and do.
A decent sized park by the river. Long walking/bicycle paths, baseball diamonds, playgrounds and a hill.
It has soft/base ball diamonds. Plus there is plenty of space for all. With a small food stand that if you catch at the right time you can get some goodies.
Its a safe park to do walking and as I like to do watch all of the beautiful pooches play in the dog park
Great park, so much to do. Fieldhouse is excellent.
They have many programs to choose from! And...A large indoor gym, small workout room, shower room (a handicap shower room even), an indoor basketball court, shop room (for wood chopping), an outdoor garden, a giant grass hill, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and an extended bike trail and extended outdoor gardens that are new. You can also take the hiking trail around the park made of woodchips overlooking the lake! This place is HUGE and has pretty much everything minus a pool. You could always go a few blocks down and travel to Welles Park for that :)
Best park in Chicago! I love the spacious greenery in the summer and the path by the river is one of the best parts!
Played the yellow disc golf course. Was pretty well maintained. No the most challenging but a nice quick little round.
