Give your legs a workout! The paddle boats are a fun little attraction on the Tidal Basin and priced per hour. Its a great way to view the Cherry Blossoms during the annual festival or the greenery in general throughout the Spring and Summer! It was a great time (and a great workout!). Lots of fun and friendly and quick staff. Prices while we were there:$20.00 per hour – 2 passenger boat$30.00 per hour – 4 passenger boat$35.00 per hour – 2 passenger SWAN boatSWAN boats are handicap accessible.
The manger has taken the privilege of withholding the umbrellas that go atop the paddle boats because he wants to collectively punish everyone during hot summer months. Wear an umbrella hat or just skip the paddle boats all together...way too hot to be out there on the tidal basin with no overhead protection. The crew on the docks helping people get on the paddle boats are very cheerful and helpful; however the staff inside the booth taking payments are rude and short tempered.
Gorgeous spot/path on the water looking across to the Jefferson Memorial + plentiful paid parking
Amazing experience!!! My friends and I went to the Tidal Basin Paddle Boats for my 24th birthday and had a blast. The boats are $30 which is pretty cheap if you split it. In my case, it was only $7.5 each and we got to enjoy the boats for a couple of hours. Its also a cute date idea. Highly recommend.
We got a boat and took it over to see the Martin Luther King and Thomas Jefferson monuments. Amazing views from the water. We got there at a good time and walked right up, but a half hour later it looked like there was about a 45 minute wait to get checked in and paddling. Might be worth going earlier in the day.
A great family friendly activity for any day that isn’t too hot to spend an hour in the sun on the water. You can paddle by the Jefferson, Washington and MLK Jr. memorials, and get some pretty serious exercise in! If you’re not up for an hour of paddling you can rent the (more expensive) swan boats which have both paddles and a motor.
It was a fabulous experience to paddle on the lake with my family. Everybody enjoyed it, so relaxed and get a chance to have a quick view around the lake. I would definitely recommend it if you have never been on it.
Gorgeous view! Nice walk from the museums and fantastic photo opportunities especially during cherry blossom time. It can get very crowded tho.
It was relaxing and calm. It wasnt bad but this is my honest rate! Please do this around the world and let Adults and children experience this wonderful travel around the lake!!P. S:The mini raft closes at 5:00pm
They werent letting people onto the boats, then the one stand closed at 430. By the time we made it back I was very thirsty with no where to get a drink. Beautiful day, beautiful scenery, meh on anything else.
The paddle boat is the best way to experience this serene, picturesque oasis encompassing popular attractions such as the Jefferson and MLK memorials, one of the most iconic images of the DC famous for the annual Cherry Tree Blossom Festival. Its also a nice respite from the crowded museums on the Mall and great place to exercise. A photo with the Jefferson memorial building next to the basin water is a must when visiting DC!
We were able to take in the sights from a Waterview vantage point! Exceptional, so much fun. Able to take photos of several monuments without the hassle of tourists. Great activity only 20 bucks an hour for a 4 person paddle boat.
Fun activity for the family with great views of all the monuments around the tidal basin. Just remember to ask for one of the shinny new boats lol
This is a beautiful area in DC. If you visit please help the park restoration fund. They are trying to restore the area to its former glory and handle the 1 million plus cherry blossom festival visitors. The paddle boats are a lot of fun and overall it is a great walk.
Beautiful. Calm & peaceful
It was a good experience. Sightseeing while boating was great, the Jefferson memorial looks amazing from here. The normal boat ride was of $19 and the duck boat ride was of $30.
So much fun !! $20 for a boat for 2 People(With no time constraint!) my husband and I enjoyed every minute of it. I would suggest going after 12PM (1-4 PM) when the sun is past its highest point because it does get really hot (we went around 12:30 PM and forgot sunscreen). Also, you can get some amazing pictures in front of the congress building, bridges and Martin Luther king Jr. Memorial. If you get hungry or thirsty theres a nice lunch spot directly next to the Paddle Boat Station. A little costly ($18 - Two hot dog combos, one combo comes with a bag of chips and a fountain drink) but we were on our way out of Washington DC after that so it was worth it :) Happy Travels!
Still not open. Strange that the kayak rentals are open but not the paddle boats
Super fun afternoon activity on a summer Sunday! Highly recommend going out for an hour!
Great way to get a leg workout. Dont go on a hot day! Next time we will bring cold water. But loved the views from the boat. Got to see the monuments up close without stepping off the boat.
Its beautiful yearround. Especially during the cherry blossoms
Very nice today, a couple of days before the peak of the Cherry Blossoms. Paddle boaters are beginning to take to the waters. Not too crowded yet, you can get close to the trees and get that selfie. The weekend will be crowded and parking will be a premium, good luck, if driving. Shuttle buses will provide transportation options.
Weve enjoyed doing paddle boating over the past few years, however theyve decided to remove the ability to reserve a boat in advance, meaning we had a two hour wait in line before we could ride. When asked why, they simply said they didnt want to do it this year. Severely disappointed, and I would suggest skipping this attraction and take a stroll instead.
Cant wait till the pandemic is over
The pedals condition is moderate. This minimum rent is an hour for the pedal. It is insanely hard to keep pedaling for a whole hour. The hour costs $30. We asked to rent 30 mins and pay $15 but they refused. Also, the life jackets are unclean. After people use the jacket and get sweat while using it, they return it back and someone else may use it without cleaning.
Been there to see the cherries in blossom! A great place at this season!
It was so fun! We went at 10 am on Saturday morning and the weather was about 70 degrees. They have paddle boats for up to 4 people. Me and my mom paid 20 bucks for one hour. Worth it!
This was an awesome experience to be out on the water! Its ideal to go in good weather, but even then you have to have really strong legs, because it is extremely exhausting to paddle boat out in the Tidal Basin. And before you go, MAKE SURE YOU RESERVE ONLINE! You can be stuck in lines for many, many hours (2-4 hours) before you can go, and so it is crucial that you reserve so you can skip the line. In addition, make sure that they are open when you want to go, because they are closed often due to weather and seasons. I highly recommend going, but its only worth it if you do your research and planning.
On their website they said the swan was modered and it is not. You can take a lot of cool photos of the monuments around the area.
Neat way to see the monuments around the tidal basin, just know that its A LOT of paddling to make it all the way around. Great leg and cardio exercise if youre of average size, great torture device if youre tall with big feet as the seats and pedals are not adjustable. Kids are allowed, but my boys got bored quickly (ages 3 &5) as they were too short to help peddle and there was only a limited number of ducks to chase.
Fun time. Good value for the $
This was a great experienceIt was truly a work outI only did it for my niece
Wen to enjoy cherry blossom. Best time to visit early morning
Make your kids paddle. It makes for a very relaxing boat ride.
Dog unfriendly place. They didn’t even allowed a service dog. Most of the other places around allow you to bring a dog and it doesn’t need to be a service dog.
Nice place! It is great for cycling
Fun summer activity, in great location where tourist like to visit!
Lovely, but crowded.
It was a really cool experience. We went at the perfect time because there were very small crowds due to cold weather. I could see it being excellent in hot weather. Boats are a workout and you only need 1 hr to see everything.
If youre a tourist and arent scared off by steep price tags, renting a paddle boat for one hour (note: youll be too tired for more than hour so dont even try to get it for longer) isnt the worst idea. Per hour, its $18 for a two person paddle boat, $30 for a four person boat, and $34 for a swan paddle boat (seriously, dont cave for this option- its cheesy). Its a good way to see DCs key monuments up close (the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument) and from afar (Lincoln Memorial and US Capitol) without the crowds. All you need to worry about is not peddling into other boaters.Warning: You may think its a quick trip to the Jefferson Memorial and back to dock, but its a longer, more exhausting trip than you think. Paddling with someone else takes a lot of communication and coordination. Be prepared to fight, but push through. By the end of the hour, your legs will be sore and ready for a break.Pro-tip: If youre going to do this, go during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Its beautiful. Book months in advance as they fill up fast!Happy peddling!
...its paddle boats on the mall. The older ones are rough, but the Swans are ok, and available with small electric motor. Stinking hot down there.
Lots of fish swimming in the water. Beautiful weather is a plus. Great walking enviroment.
Fun and good monument views. Expect long lines on windy days - they sometimes have to limit the number of boats out.
Always a blast! Great way to see our nations capital. Excellent view of the Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr, Washington Monument, and the gorgeous cherry blossoms. Pleasant ride, great memories. Super fun for the kids.
Get there early an check the weather. Had fun
Best place to enjoy cherry blossomin DC.
Boats are in great condition, staff was very efficient and supportive.
Nice relaxing way to enjoy the tidal basin
Best place to see view and relax in big lake
Great to visit throughout the Spring and Sumner and during the Cheery Blossoms if mother nature permits.
Visiting the Tidal Basin any time of day or night is amazing
Loved it first time and wont be the last.
Its beautiful! Perfect place for a picnic
Friendly staff. A wonderful experience
Lovely place just to walk and go paddle boating. Scenery is breathtaking!
Oh so much fun!
Worth a visit if you plan it for a weekday on a cherry blossom
Visit here for a great paddle boat experience
Get there early! It was the absolute best time for are whole party!! Crew was super helpful and kind. Very attentive. Would totally do it again
Our students really enjoyed taking the boats out
Expensive but worth it. Be sure to go early enough to get the covered ones or youre dying of heat!
Wonderful experience, went there to see the cherry blossom
Love it especially in blossom month
Took my little guy over the weekend and we enjoyed it... He kept feeding the ducks while we were out on the water which meant we had a gathering around our boat.. Great views of the monuments...
Great views, friendly staff.
Fun and relatively inexpensive (for DC).
Nice location right across from mall and Jefferson Memorial.
Nice service but I didnt feel safe cause no seat belts
The boats were ok however, the staff were unfriendly and the life jackets/vest are NASTY, NASTY, NASTY.
Excellent view and smooth Waters
I would recommend to check weather before boarding this boats. They don’t have back up plans Incase of emergency. Over the weekend sudden weather change got the water very choppy and waves increased, they didn’t get to come out and rescue everyone. We had to climb up the wall and if it wasn’t for the people who were passing by we would all have drowned. Same thing with other three boats that were stranded in the water.
They were busy but had an hr wait, were organized but hardly had a min yo answer questions.
Nice day date idea. Wear comfortable clothing so you can move.
Everybody was very polite and professional extremely clear instructions on safety protocol would recommend to all
It was hot nobody was paddling..
Nice view in cherry blossom festival.
It was ok ... Water was dirty stuff floating around. Not really worth $19 and change.
The workers work really hard. great place! nice view!
This was a great time and really enjoyed every minute of it we will be doing this again
Great waddle paddle for the buck!
Ive done this activity a few times over the years and its always fun... Its only about $20 for 2 ppl for an hour...
Got the swan boat. Very fun and entertaining.
Great time, clean and beautiful.
A bit pricey but well worth trying out great photos can be taken.
