First ever hike in this park after living in the area for years. It was an easy to moderate level hike with some hills and crossing over a creek. It has several trails to choose from which is great for future trips. There was this one fun spot where you could choose to walk across the creek on a fallen tree or on stepping stones in the creek. My friend and I took the safe route and used the stepping stones. Overall, it was a nice hiking experience mainly because it was new to us both. I would recommend this park for hiking in the busy area of the district! I’ll be back for sure.
Great place to come and just walk around. I personally parked by the amphitheater and walked down a path that brought me straight to the bridge. The leaves were beautiful and it was perfect weather. Great place for kids to get out the energy while distancing.
I love beautiful getaways, specially those that are relatively unknown. This place is huge and its in DC. There is PLENTY PLENTY PLENTY of free parking and plenty of space to set up a picnic or find a table to eat with friends/family. There is a small river running through the park and there are hills for those who dont like flat-surfaced forest areas. Will definitely relax in a hammock again here soon :)
Even though a lot of families were getting out of the house and heading to the park, there was still so much space where you didnt come into contact with anyone. Plenty of cool spots to wade into the creek that my pups loved, and picnic areas you can rent as well. Slice of nature just outside the city.
We walked down Melvin Hazen trail from Connecticut Ave to the mill down at Rock Creek, and then walked to Crestwood to visit a friend. There were many small groups picnicking near the mill, and several had fires going in the facilities there. Very nice hike and place to visit.
Beautiful and scenic. A place to visit especially in the fall or run and bike through. The colors are wonderful. Definitely a place for a picnic.
A great trail for a long a d relaxing walk. The colors in the different seasons are just magnificent.I hihly recommend to discover that wonderful hidden park.
Beautiful park!!! So many places to explore. Just need to get there early to find parking. People are very nice and respect social distancing
Nice park, but was a bit too crowded for my liking. One of the parking lots was closed off when I went, and it took a while to find a spot. The river (brook?) that runs parallel to one of the main trails gives off a strong sewage odor.
One off my favorite places in the world to be. Held me down during the quarantine. So many trails, so things to discover about the park and the beautiful area around it. Great for Weekend adventure for the locals, and for tourists, make sure you schedule a Rock Creek Day in your Vacation plans.
An oasis in the middle of the city. A perfect place for a short hike or a picnic or a family day out..... The number of ways this place offers, to make an ordinary day an amazing and memorable one, are endless.
Largest park area in a city, I have heard. Larger than Central Park? While Central Park is nature made tame in the city, Rock Creek is wild nature in the city... at least, as wild as you can get with so many trails and people using the place. Best of all, many of the roads going through are shut down to through traffic during the weekends, so only pedestrians and bike riders are making their way through the center, keeping the outside noise level down so that the sounds of leaves blowing and water flowing seem turned up in the many valleys of this spectacular feature of Washington DC. If you are a resident, and dont visit this gem, you are truly missing out on one of the finest aspects of living here. If you are a visitor, maybe this is less impressive to you, but still worth seeing and especially if you have a local guide to help you explore.
Beautiful and very peaceful area. The golf course is nice and a lot of fun to play. Well maintained and clean. Some of the cart paths are a bit rough but it makes for a fun cart ride.
I love Rock Creek Park for post-work (or weekend) exercise in a beautiful setting. With so many trails and access points, its pretty easy to find a way to enter that suits you. And outside of the nicest spring and fall days, its easy to find some solitude too. And during the 2020 lockdown, theyve been really great about keeping not only Beach Drive closed in some parts, but also other nearby roads that allow for either access or exercise opportunities. The rapids section of Rock Creek, where this photo was taken, is especially worth checking out. Thats the section between Military Drive to the north and the Boulder Bridge to the south.
Love riding my bike almost every day through the park. So happy not to have to ride in traffic
Its a quiet place to relax and its peaceful and the view is beautiful when the sky is blue with the sun hitting the right spot shouldve had a camera to capture the sight especially during the season of spring when everything become new.Awesome!!!
This beautiful & serene park is an integral feature of DC which provides a place of sanctuary, escape and recreation nestled in the heart of the US capital stretching nearly the entire longitudinal length of the city.It is easy to traverse the park without even realizing it on one of a number of the citys thoroughfares; or to drive for miles within the park without seeing hardly any reminders of being in the middle of Washington! There are numerous spots where one could easily believe they were beside a mountain stream in the Appalachians far from any city and civilization. The park features numerous hiking, running and biking trails, as well as many picnic & parking areas, and other recreational services & opportunities. The roads in the park are probably best avoided during rush hour by visitors & tourists especially! This is because of somewhat confusing changes in which lanes & entrances/exits are open and which direction of traffic is permitted.
Oh say can you see Awesome 23 km hike here in Washington DC today. One of the most tranquil hikes I’ve done. ️️️Just beautiful forests and rivers all along the way. Bridges dating back 150 years ago. Woman, families with children hike here and you feel safe ️️️Heart wrenching I saw I young chap with a prosthetic leg, - a blind man, his guide dog and friend doing this hike ( if they can ????}}}. Took over 6 hours to do this hike and loved it. Awesome to see a Mill en route.Spectacular hike being over 90 percent of the time in lush forestI did a 16 hour Trans Atlantic flight to come do this hike and I feel refreshed
Awesome park to exercise!! With so many ttails is a favorite spot in the city
Really cool hiking with many paths! I expected it to me more like a Central Park in D.C., but it is not like that at all! Youre actually in the woods going up hills and following along a river. Really fun and moderate hike.
Great trails. Cyclist and family friendly.
Beautiful area for hiking, picnics, kayaking, or just a nice drive. There are miles of trails in the park with many interesting historic locations along the way. The greenery and the creek make for some spectacular views especially near the Calvert Street and Connecticut Avenue bridges.
Having visited the park for 60+ years, it still is marvelous. People we saw were respecting the rules about physical distance and wearing masks. A peaceful haven in the city
This place is beautiful and plenty of space to do whatever you want. Took my dog on a walk from 14th and U. The journey was well worth it. Dog friendly that also includes trails. On a beautiful day, check it out but make sure you clean up your trash!
There are various picnic areas that can be utilized. Its spaced out enough to make you feel like you have your own private area. I wasnt able to find any accessible restrooms.
From the miles of trails to the beautiful trees you can spend hours here hiking or biking. We live close to the north end of the park with entrances in 16th Street and Parkview. If you love birds, there are nesting pileated woodpeckers, hawks and all your favorite songbirds. One of my favorite places to feel miles away from the bustling world of the DMV.
Of course its a nice place! But theres people too.
Lovely view and relaxing picnic area for a relaxing bite pre or post hike.
This is literally the best place in DC to spend your weekends. Theres an abundance in activities that you can partake in and myriad new trails to explore that you will never feel bored. The trails are clearly marked with the approximate level of difficulty, so you wont find yourself struggling at any point even if you choose a seemingly steep one. Theres also a few picnic spots with scenic views that one could use.
Great walking or running trails. Scenic and maintained.
Absolutely beautiful park. Watching the water crashing over the rocks is very relaxing. A lovely drive thru the park. Unless its rush hour! Then its not so much fun. Great place to take the kids. The dogs and run.
My dear friend had brought us together to do weekly hikes in this park. I can drive all around with ease but I fear my walking will get me lost. Lol. I do wish there were more markers/directions.
Beautiful park in the city. Such an awesome place to hike.
Although part of the park was closed, it was nice, quiet, serene. I went to check out the atmosphere. The only thing missing was my girlfriend. I will return with her. I noticed he shelter and the old bathroom had holes in the roof. An eye sore !! Other areas I noticed not enough tables.
Did a photo shoot in the park, one of the top city parks in the country!
Nature at its best and i live right next to it and i love my neighborhood and easy access to Rock Creek especially now in fall weather.
Beautiful place to have a picnic with the little ones, grassy spots, picnic tables, nice options for easy hikes for tots, not too crowded.
I am visiting from Florida so this was all new. Its gorgeous! I did a photo shoot which I would reccomend for everyone. You can hike on trails or sit on a bench or just ride through. A fantastic, beautiful experience!
Not a great park, over used and way too busy. It does have nice trails however
Amazing park with multiple trails and so much to do. Living next to it is a true blessing.
Had lots of fun with my family stop by its worth the visit.
A beautiful park, with easy access to hiking trails. Note: many areas of the park, such as picnic areas close at sundown. The main paths are well maintained. A person with a keen eye will see wildlife. If youre into horseback riding, you can do that as well here. Check out the Peirce Mill while youre here.
Nice amount of parking and trails, the one trail we went on could have used some better marking than just pink tape.
Lovely place for a walk, bike ride, or to sit and read.
Its an amazing park to unwind and fellowship with nature.
Its always beautiful, driving through the park, looking at the leaves.
I love this place! Great atmosphere and endless trails to hike/run!
Easy trails and hikes just follow the paths. It is along the river and roads so great for beginners! The summer is great too cus all the trees provide cool shade. It also has some pretty good views :)
Great family friendly park to enjoy nature at his best. An oasis in the middle of the City
The peace, serenity and beauty are amazing. I enjoyed walking the trails passing other hikers on romantic walks, families with children, people walking their dogs and people jogging. The trails are well traveled.
It was soooooo relaxing. Some of the visitors were so polite. It was a blessing to see so many parents enjoying playtime with their kids.
We had a great time exploring a small part of the trail system here. Looking forward to heading back for more. Amazing that we couldnt hear city traffic noises at all. What a great oasis so close to the city!
Great trip to DC to visit Uncle Tony
We enjoyed a beautiful day of hiking and running the trails in the park. Part of the trail went right by the river. Dog friendly park! You can easily put the miles in while weaving through the trails.
It was fun and a beautiful day
Great place to run on the weekends. Part of beach road that runs along the creek is closed off to vehicles from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. Tons of easy, well defined and upkept trails.
There is a high ridge trail and lower trail by creek which we took I felt like in Rocky Mrs. Many roads closed We parked by tennis courts with huge parking area and bathrooms. Connector trail starts due west by the bathrooms.
I love hiking here with my dog. There are tons of little trails and if your dog needs water you can head to the creek. My little oasis in DC
I cycle, jog and walk through Rock Creek and its beautiful. The trails are nice and the hills makes it challenging.
Always nice to be there been going since I was a teenager please get the Carter barron open back up soon.
Free and open every day from dawn to dusk. Lots of great hiking and bike trails. Easy access from the heart of Washington D.C.
Rustic park with trails running through the city.
Simply beautiful, not much to say. Ibwas driving by and I had to stop for pictures, some of which Im not sharing. So if you happen to pass by, stop and takes pictures and enjoy the fine weather I enjoyed Late October.
Rocks, creeks, grass, trees, air....good things to have in a big city.
The park is huge! There is so much gorgeous nature to explore right in the heart of DC!!
Rock Creek Park is great. I ride my bike on the weekends and hike the trails when I get a chance.
Great park for being in the middle of DC. Lots of trails. It was a great way go get out of the house and get some exercise in
A national treasure. The beauty of Gods creation in forest, river and all the abundance of life. Miles of joy.
Rock Creek Park... Walked 2 miles on the trail. Its a great trail absolutely! Youll see a few people walk or jog then at times its so quiet too. I seen a couple snakes. Mainly black snakes but I did see a copperhead though so watch out. The whole time being in DC Id never thought I was. Would I go back? You bet I would and I am this weekend.
This is one the beautiful I came across when I was in DC...Beauty and Calm..Loved it
Love to go, grab a picnic table and chill in nature...
Rock Creek Park is an oasis in the middle of the city. I feel so lucky to live so close to nature and so many trails while living in the middle of a big city. It’s so fun to explore. Check out Pierce Mill, the Nature Center where you can learn more about the plants and animals found in the park and see a free planetarium show, and the Capitol Stones. Or just pick a trail and start hiking to see where it will lead you.
A beautiful and safe place to cycle on Sundays
A beautiful place for a chill afternoon in the city.
Yupp! I think Ive found a new happy place. #Alive #nature #love
Finally visited and it was amazing. Coming from a more remote area of the USA I was shocked to find a park like this in the middle of DC. In certain areas you cant hear traffic, only birds chirping. Definitely an easy way to destress from City Life and go for a nice hike.
Great park with lots to do! There’s a nature center, multiple bike trails, a historic ford, and a beautiful stream that runs through the middle of the park! My friend and I walked over 7 miles last week and loved every bit! Definitely recommend this park. It’s the “Central Park” of DC!
Be little bit more hospitable!
Best city park. Every visit rejuvenates
A very large park full of trees. Incredible to such a park inside the city, very close to downtown! It’s kinda our local park - great place to hang out, ride a horse, and to do hiking along the water.
Its a Lovely and Quiet Park Ill go back every chance I can get
Was there the 1st of December’17. Even though fall was ending and winter was coming, the park was still beautiful. The leaves were orange and brown and a lot of it was on the grown already so it was kind of fun swooshing them as we walked. Would love to come back and visit in October
Beautiful nature walk for free. The paths are not difficult and the maps are easy to follow. Down side is bathrooms and parking.
Thinking of somewhere to go and relax rock Creek Park is the best place
Great cycling road leisure and training
Pretty park in the middle of DC. We totally picked the wrong metro stop to use to get there though, so that made for a few extra miles of walking. The visitor center was nice and clean, however, the park ranger wasnt sure where many things were on the map and I had to point them out to her. The Mill House was very cool and the people inside were knowledgeable and friendly.
When tourists flock to the National Mall, locals flee to Rock Creek Park, the largest green space in Washington, D.C. Mainly in Northwest D.C., it starts near the Kennedy Center and winds north for miles. On a good day, its full of runners, bikers, urban hikers, and thousands of people enjoying all it has to offer. It has a horse center, an amphitheater, historic bridges, Civil War forts, the old U.S. Capitol stones, playgrounds, workout stations, and so much more.
Nature is always great....very peaceful nice spot outside the city
Beautiful park to go on an adventurous hike!
Hidden gem! Youll never believe this beauty and calmness exists in DC! Go explore, thank me later!
After driving and parking in DC this gem of a park is a nice change. It was a little difficult to find from the directions, but worth the search. I wish we had more time to explore this area. Much of DC was closed; parking, museums, and restrooms. Visiting this park was kind of a relief from all the pandemic social distancing patrols.
Great place to run, walk, picnic and a lot things more! I love it ! I will recommend it! Dont go when is dark!
Absolutely beautiful best day in 2020
Good place to relax or exercise.
Great hiking trails clearly marked!!!! Experience levels for everyone! And it’s clean you don’t see any litter at all. One of my favorite parks in the DMV!
This is a great park also known as DCs Central Park. There are plenty of hiking trails near the stream. The park is a safe family destination.
