Having all the bathrooms closed was crazy. You would think they would give you more places to wash your hands instead of none. Otherwise it was fun.
Very well run and amazing place to go to for free tours and visit to senate and House of representatives. They have an excellent first aid facility too. The staff nurse was super duper nice and friendly to help me with my small injury. The lunch self service restaurant was good too!! Big and affordable. Food tastes better than typical attraction cafe.
Very well organized and very interesting tour. You start with a security control taking its time to line up getting ur ticket. After a quick film the tour starts and lasts for about 45 Minutes. The tour guide kept it interactive and had some fun facts to tell. Book well in advance as the tours tend to be booked out.
Book in advance but on the quiet days you can turn up without a reservation and walk straight on to a tour as we did on a Friday. It’s worth doing. The rotunda is fantastic. For international visitors it’s easy enough to get to see the extras (house of senate and House of Representatives) - just give your photo ID to the appointment desk. But note that no cameras are allowed in either of those last two places and it has it own security.
Definitely a must see. Recommend to take a tour during a week rather than weekend to a wood big crowds and stressful situations
The Capitol building is beautiful but if you do a tour here the tour guides dont always know what theyre talking about and theyre not the most helpful. During visiting hours its tough to get through security, theyre very strict and sometimes rude. I absolutely love the work they do here and respect every one working in building. Definitely visit the capitol while in DC! cant miss it.
Really great center. I did get pulled apart from the rest of my school with no warning for extra screening so that was a bit annoying. The cafeteria was overpriced, crowded, and took over an hour. Besides that the center was great. I recomend you dont eat there though!
Always a madhouse here but lines move fast and just taking in the atmosphere of Americans from all over the country visiting their Capitol is a wonderful sight. Film is informative and the tour, while brief, covers the highlights. Your best bet is to contact your Congressional rep for a personalized, longer and in-depth tour. But if you arrive in the District without a plan and just want a quick visit, this is the way to go! Walkway to the Library of Congress is a great side tour. Dont miss it!
Another awesome place to check out the Capitol from the inside. It is free of cost. There is a 12 minute movie before the tour starts. It is followed by small guidedgroup tours. Our guide was really fun and very informative. Over the 30 to 40 minute tours, we traverse through different rooms with rotunda being the main attraction. Be sure to capture the tiny intrinsic details on the ceiling of the dome.
If I am not wrong, majority of the tourists visiting DC do come here for sure. Place is enormous and is filled with lots of history, magnificent architecture, beautiful sculptures and very well organized educational tours of this place.Only setback of this place is, its so big that you walk a lot and then you get hungry/thirsty and tired. Food is not available anywhere near. You can only get lucky with the food carts but even for those, youll have to walk a lot so fill your tummy before starting. You have to buy tickets of course, but I am not aware of the price so you will have to check online. They do have discounts available all year round. Parents must bring their children here to enlighten them with some historical events.
Very engaging staff. Well orchestrated tours of a building thats far more interesting than youd expect. All items in the gift shops(North side and South sides) are made in the USA. The shops carry the same merchandise. Plan to take the Halls of the Senate tour. Its only given at 11am and 2pm Monday through Friday.
I really liked this place and it takes an hour forthe tour and you need to book it online and even sometimes you will be allowed without prior reservations but that’s not possible all the time I guess. It’s a good place to visit in DC and it’s worth it .
Lifetime experience.Wonderful and amazing sculptures inside.A movie about the American history followed by guided tour who will take you to dome and all other important painting and sculptures.
Good tours are offered free if charge through an efficient system for getting a lot of people through there. If you want to view the house gallery, you will need to get passes from your Congressman in advance. You can see the gallery whether they are in session or not. But you will want to save yourself some time by getting the passes from your Congressman in advance rather than have to make a special trip to their office while youre trying to tour the capitol.
Honored the work and life of Congressman John Lewis.
Arrived early and was allowed to go with an earlier group. We scheduled online and the instructions said to arrive an hour early to get through security. It didnt take long at all and if you have reserved a tour already you enter a separate line that was much shorter (at least for our visit). When he saw our scheduled time, he asked if we wanted to join the earlier tour which we did.You watch a short video and then exit the theater and they direct you to one of several guides who the hand you a headset. The guide walks you through the tour touching on paintings, statues and architecture. You can also get a tour through your local representatives I believe. You can also use the tunnel to the Library of Congress so you wont need to go through security again.
Great values on which the nation is built .. every American should do this tour
This is an amazing experience when youre in the Washington DC area. I had no idea that the visitor center for the Capitol building was so extensive. I got to participate in an NASSP organized panel discussion with some other school leaders in one of the conference rooms. Very humbling experience to be able to be here.
Awesome experience! Our tour guide know every intricate detail about the history of the capital building. He was intelligent, funny and very personable.
Such rich heritage this country has. The guided tour with headphones is definitely the way to go. Quite the history lesson. Plus, you may see one of your state representatives! I saw Speaker Of The House: Paul Ryans office
The worlds most powerful center is here! America for years!
Amazing! I really enjoyed it. The tour guide was very kind and she told us all the stories and history about the gorgeous US Congress. It’s a quick tour to know the basic about the USA and Congress! 100% recomendable!!!!!!
Recommend taking a guided tour. Breathtaking beauty. Words really cans describe it.
It was a very interesting visit! We were able to go into the chamber and watch a session. It was a great experience for the students to have. The lunch area was not set up well at all for a large group and the food was nothing all that special, but it was good enough to get by.
The House of all houses. And the best: its open to the public. Just walk in and watch the Senate or the House of Representatives from the galleries.Meet senators or representatives in the hallways or at the restaurant. Cool
Great setup and very efficient for visitors. Now if only our Congress could be as efficient.
Great visitors center, it is on the east side of the capitol. It was extremely busy with many groups, I would recommend reserving online for your time. It is free to do so. The statues and building are just beautiful.
Very nice. The guide was great and shared lot of information. A must visit.
Pretty cool place. Beautiful architects as with all DC buildings, not too busy —though through the week. Very structured and organized for visitors. Restaurant onsite. Gets very busy bus is organized and structured well. The food isn’t that great, but has a good variety.
Super organized tour. Got right in to the initial auditorium to watch the starter film. Gave good info and a good overview. Lady herding us in needed to calm down a little. Liked that even though there were a huge number of people, our individual tour guide kept us engaged.
The US capital is an inspirational treasure. Its huge to start with and was built to outlast time itself. Its a great example of what you can do with Brick, marble, cast iron and sandstone. A must see if your in DC. The tour is worth it as well. You will see rooms that are not open to the public without a guide. The only complaint I have is we were not given enough time to examine all the statues. The tour seemed a bit rushed but still worth the price. FREE. We also enjoyed lunch in the cafeteria. Good food for a reasonable price.
Pretty majestic and historic building for US regardless of those who occupy it on the daily basis. A must stop on anyones visit to DC.
The Capitol tour offered by the Visitor center is a must!!! The docents are very informative and knowledgeable. This is a great way to learn about the history of the United States.
I really enjoyed this visit. Better to make reservations, so you dont have to stand in a long line.
Really impressed with the visitor centre!! The tour was informative ans getting to sit in the public gallery in the senate was great!!!Restaurant was good with a great selection and a very good range of fresh salad options to choose from!!
We just finished our tour of The US Capitol, The Library of Congress and with separate tickets, The Senate & House. It was amazing to see the same rooms we see on TV in person. The awe and goose bumps of seeing the House Floor, where every American is represented.. SO cool.To the guide of our tour, Janet, THANK YOU for being so informative. It was obvious, you love what you do and we loved being on your tour of The Capitol. To EVERY MEMBER of the staff, from security when we came in, to security where we checked our bags to sit in the House, to the Capitol Police, thank you. Everyone was informative and friendly. (Simply following instructions and reading the list of prohibited items saves one a lot of trouble). We left with a whole new love and appreciation of our country, America. If you have the opportunity to take this tour, do it!
Got tickets for the tour. was easy to find and quick to enter. The movie is wonderful and deepen appreciation for country. Marcus Cook did our tour. He was awesome! Educator and entertaining. A beautiful tour of 3 main rooms of the capital. Very Enjoyable and a must do when in DC! Thanks Marcus!!
My husband and I are both legally blind but wanted to tour the capital because our son is a huge history fanatic. We called our congressmans office to explain our needed accommodations and request the tour and Daniel Mcghei was so unbelievably helpful in getting all of our tours set up with accommodations and he gave us a guided tour of the capital and did an amazing job! He was even so patient when we got lost trying to find his office and came to find us instead. (Seriously! If his supervisor sees this, he goes above and beyond!) We got so much info from the tour and the capital is so beautiful! I highly recomend taking this tour!
Great experience, guided tour that was timely didnt have to wait long. Had a tour guide named David and he answered any question you could throw at him! Definitely recommend going, approximate an hour for the tour
What a wonderful place to learn about the history of the United States of America. When you’re on this tour you will learn about the decisions and the leader ship that made this country great. It is a wonderful place to bring your family and friends service members and veterans to learn about the history of the United States of America
The Capitol visitors center is gorgeous and the food court there is delicious! Emancipation Hall is beautiful and has several statues of interest like Jeanette Rankin and Frederick Douglass, as well as an exhibit on DC growth and development since the founding. The wait for passes for the tour is quite long, especially when your representative or senator does not reserve a time slot for you. Advice is to plan in advance (I emailed my reps 6 months in advance, and still did not get reserved passes) and email earlier rather than later. Otherwise, be prepared to stand in line for 2 hrs for passes.
They tell you to come early, but if youre visiting out of summer season, you should go a bit later. We arrived around 11.30 and we could just walk in without waiting in line anywhere. The staff here is really friendly and the guide was genuinly funny! She knew a lot and could answer all our questions. They 9/11 memorial is beautiful, made a lot of people teary-eyed. Go and visit, its beautiful, but you also learn a lot, especially as a foureign tourist!
Not open currently to public but when it does reopen well worth the wait in line to get in
Great tour be prepared lots and lots of walking just to the visitors center before the tour
Amazing tour my only complaint is that the tour guide and most of the people who worked in the visitor center were very grumpy, I get that you may have to make contact with hundreds of not thousands of people weekly but thats your job and if you cant handle it then you shouldnt be doing it! People come from all over the country to visit THEIR Capitol building since we as tax payers pay for it, so please keep that in mind as well. Its meant to be an exciting experience and history lesson so staff should act accordingly.
I really loved getting to go inside of the Capitol Building! It was beautiful and I loved getting a tour of our nations capital! If you would like a tour, call into your state representatives office to make a reservation.
Attended the 400 Years Commission program commemorating the arrival of Africans in America in the auditorium. Beautiful space and awesome program. Grounds and personnel were awesome.
The best things in life are free, and this is one of them. The tours are incredible and the history and architecture are robust!
Always informative and such a beautiful building. Guides are very knowledgeable. Free and a good time limit for the tour.
Highly recommend to visit.
You must go for the guided tour, I will be able to learn so history and take awesome pictures!
Come here if youre planning to see the interior of the US Capitol Building. Entrance is at the east side of the capitol complex, along First Street SE. There is an airport-style security check to get in. Come prepared and bring only whats allowed. A list of prohibited items is published on the Visitor Center website.Once inside, you can get same-day passes for a guided tour (free of charge), which is the only way to see the buildings famous dome and rotunda. These passes are subject to availability, so they recommend that you reserve in advance via their website to secure guaranteed spots. The tour takes about 45 minutes and is probably the most well-choreographed and organized tour weve ever attended. If you dont get passes, you can still walk around and see some beautiful monuments, shop at the gift store, or dine at the on-site restaurant.Tours of the congressional halls require separate passes and are harder to come by since they can only be booked via the office of your senator or congressperson.
Booked our tour months in advance. Would highly recommend, learnt so much about the History, got to walk through some interesting rooms. The tour guilds are great full of knowledge and can answer whatever question you throw at them
Politics aside it’s a fantastic place to visit
Beautiful building. It was well kept and neat, and very orderly. The tour could have been longer and the tour guide could have given more information on the individual statues that she chose to point out. Otherwise, it was great!
One of the most greatness experience the had in my life was have the honor of to be in this place.
Go for the tour! Highly educational
Amazing! History everywhere, the good and even not so good. Tours are a must, even if you have to wait. Definitely worth the wait IMO. Wish they werent so rushed but understand the amount of people to push through.Bonus: The cafeteria is great too.Bonus 2: Take the tunnel to the library of Congress across the street
What a great place to visit! We were able to see beautiful statues and art all while learning about History! Lonie was a great tour guide who had great knowledge and a love of history! Awesome visit for the whole family!
Tour guide Emily was amazing! She is very knowledgeable about US History and made it interesting and so much fun. You can tell she loves her job!
Recommend you coordinate with your Congressional Representatives office for a tour of the Capital. Remember your Gallery Pass is renewable each year upon request. Whether you live in the DMV (DC, MD, VA) area or a Visitor to DC, there is nothing like seeing Congress in session.
Beautiful experience! Organised dispite the large numbers of tourists..Helpful guides
If your in DC you owe it to yourself to see where your tax dollars are spent. Beautiful building with a great tour.
In a city full of attractions this place has to be in your top 5 for visiting while you are at DC because the arch is really great
The guided tours are great. I would definitely recommend getting Senate & House chamber passes (from your senator or rep if youre a US citizen, also available to non-citizens but Im not sure of the process). Also take the tunnel over to the Library of Congress to see the spectacular building and exhibits.
Very nice place to visit, especially with a tour guide that explains every detail of the place
Great place. The tour guide was very well prepared for any questions
And wonderful experience welworth planning ahead for. Just call your local congressmans office and they will arrange it for you
Take the guided tour, its great! You can get reserved spots if you sign up online. If there arent any tickets, dont worry: you can also get tickets once inside, and usually you dont need to wait too long. Tours last about an hour, but theres more to look at once the tour is over. The capitol is connected to the gorgeous Library of Congress using a tunnel: would highly recommend going there afterwards, to skip the security checkpoint.
Wonderful!!! A family must event!! Very informative and interactive tour guide. Overall Great!!
So beautiful! Such a nice and great staff. Wonderful experience there.
They offer well organized tours of the capitol building. I was impressed with the volume of people they are able to handle in a timely way. We didnt have to wait long for the tours.
Absolutely beautiful. Get there when it opens or face a very, very long line.
A great place to learn or just to visit, the guided tour was enjoyable. All the art is amazing.
This place is full of history. The tour is nice but the guides are not very friendly. It is a good place to learn about the government.
Good tour, friendly. Accessibility good, told them I used personal FM, they loaned me one for tour. Tell them your accessibility needs in advance. Our guide was knowledgeable, interesting and engaging. Learned lots of history in a fun way and understood what we were looking at.
No comments on this place. Just go and see this place.
Our Capitol is quite simply exquisite! The Rotundas Apotheosis of George Washington is such a powerful piece and I was blown away to learn that it is the size of a basketball court on our wonderful Capitol tour. When in our nations capital, you must visit the Capitol Bldg.
A placebof awe and wonder as well as a home to our democracy.
Such a wonderful part of our history. Our tour guide couldve been a little more friendly.
Long wait in the queue. But it was worth the wait. Nice day out idea it was. Beautifully made.
Security seems too strict. I had to go through a metal detector AND a body scanner. I also had to remove my belt, watch, belt, and everything from my pockets, including my wallet. At least I was permitted to keep my shoes on, and I didnt have give up my shoelaces.(I was there for a meeting, not a tour; but I think the same security is applied to all visitors.)I think that such measures would be more effective on certain members of Congress, than on the general public.
Great tours and a free museum in the centre showing the history of congress and the capital building. Well worth a visit
If you’re coming to Washington DC, then you need to add this tour to the list of “Things to Do”. It’s not as thrilling but you do get to see a few historic rooms and learn some facts. You need to reach out to your local U.S. representative to get the tour scheduled. The tour begins with a video showing how the building was built and what happens there. Afterwards you are split into groups and get your own tour guide. The tour guide takes you around the building to explore and goes behind the history on the statues and rooms. If you want to see more rooms then you can make an appointment with your local representative to get access. Unfortunately, for me I didn’t have to time to do this, but you get to see the inside of the dome which is exciting. My tour guide was D. Ike and he was nice, outgoing, and funny. Overall, it’s a must thing to do while you’re in Washington DC.
Great historic views as well as insight into how our nations laws are made
The place looked beautiful with statues everywhere but the food in the cafeteria was not great. My apple wasnt ripe and the pizza had little to no sauce. It tasted like plastic. Other than that everything else is okay. Staff there are kind and will help you with everything. They have good security as well so no need to worry.
Great tour. Takes a while to walk there from mall, dont be fooled! Visitor centre is on the left hand side round the back and then down stairs!
Good! You can play there one day and eat lunch inside.
Very well done, as expected. The security staff were relaxed, yet thorough.
Loved it! Staff are very knowledgeable and courteous. The building itself is really beautiful and the guides will fill you in on some of the thought that went into it as well as some secrets..!
Great tour and so much history worth checking out
Very informative, highly recommend visiting when seeing the US Capitol building. They offer free tours of the building.
Really well run with pleasant and professional staff. Audio set are available to listen better to your quide. Tours are large in number, but it works. Worth the visit for the understanding of the building and the history.
Good tour, quick and to the point. Also free, you can reserve a time but not required. Didnt get to see chambers but you can get another pass to do so during the week. Would repeat.
This tour is so informative and really gives you a respect for the building and what happens inside of it now and in the past. If you are lucky enough your tour guide will be British John (my name for him- his name is just John but he is British). He was a fantastic guide and I highly recommend this experience.
Had the absolute best tour guide. Retired history teacher from the south who loves his job. Easily the best guide at the Capitol. Gave some very interesting facts about that gorgeous building. If you go, ask for a gentleman from Arkansas with the last name McDonald.
World class visitor center. Must see in DC.
Very cool. Feeling patriotic!
