At the edge of LEnfant Plaza where it connects to the District Wharf is a small concrete park with a fountain named after Benjamin Banneker, a freed slave who became a famous scientist and inventor. The park comes with tables and benches making it a popular spot for an outdoor lunch when the weather permits. It also offers beautiful views of the National Mall, the Spy Museum and the District Wharf. There are stairs that take you to the District Wharf and the water.
Great place to chill.. Great places to dine.. Very Convenient to Metro if you don’t want to drive and park. I love the history behind this location. I have seen all of the transformations. Wonderful views close to the waterfront! You can even do your grocery shopping. Oh, And did I say that you feel safe here as well!
Great educational park and rigjht next to Chesapeake Seafood.(Yum). In the heart of DC capital. Great touring city.
Named after one of the architects of the Federal City. The park overlooks the SW Waterfront and views over to the newly developed International Spy Museum at LEnfant Plaza. Since the summertime the water fountain adds more picturesque view.
Ive been coming to this park since I was in high school, that was in the early 2000s. I mention that because the park itself hasnt changed in all these years but the surrounding area has changed drastically!!!There are no more river views (which I loved) due to the new hi-rise buildings that occupy the redeveloped Wharf... However it is still a nice spot relax and enjoy the sound and sight of the water fountain, as well as see planes take off from RR National Airport...Also take some time to learn about Benjamin Banneker and the history of that section of Southwest DC on the information boards...
Very nice.
Great play fountain for the kids. Ours loved it and wants to go back.
Beautiful location for Sunsets looking westward in front of water geyser.
It’s a beautiful tribute to Banneker. Mostly a spot where people who eat locally to sit alone or on the phone for lunch.
I loved the park, it was serene In the manner thats very inviting
Very nice chill spot...... Especially in the warm months.
Nice place 2 read & relax
It overlooks the wharf the waterfront off of the Potomac River
Prettygrandson
Better to sit and enjoy the whether its nice place lov it
Depending on when youre there, the fountain may or may not be working. If its not working then this park will seem like a desolate, abandoned wasteland. It will have great potential, as the Wharf area that it overlooks is in full blown construction right now. Once thats finished it should be a very nice view overlooking the water. On second thought, just wait a year and youll be much happier that you waited
This park is not as well maintained as it deserves to be. A quiet place on a quiet street with nice views. That is soon to change with all the new development and the Spy Museum moving to this locality.
The Benjamin Banneker Park is not visit all that often only by office workers that work in the nearby Office Buildings but it has a fountain but the fountain is not turned on very often because the Fountain is very powerful and when it is turned on, the water is everywhere
Good area to eat relax sit around and look at the lake
Just walking through on my daily walk.
Nice no traffic walk to NEW Wharf area. Access the elevated park/walkway from L’enfant MTA via MD Ave/D St elevator exit. Near the new SPY museum bldg under construction as of May ‘18. OR Enter from the far N end near Smithsonian MTA Station for longer walk.
Great to do a few loops during lunch for exercise. Not enough shade in the summer. Seats available.
Common people having a good time walking talking and eating great food.Doesnt get any better.Take it from me.
Not much of a park here. It seems almost neglected. It affords a decent view of the waterfront, though even some of that is now gone with the erection of buildings on the waterfront.
I love the Wharf. Here from Philly twice a month. Celebrating my 45th Birthday today. Free parking. Must be patient.
Great place to park your car in the evenings when going to the wharf
Love it here. DC Wharf. New apts and restaurants. Oversea the water. Freashly new built buildings. Ots lovely. A must see and go
Nice park. Always has creative things going on and great for photo shoots.
Great place to meditate and take in the water sites of the wharf, just be careful at night for the homeless people.
With the addition of The Wharf, this is now a cool destination to spend a few moments on a nice day.
The one star is for the limited view to the waterfront. Dont waste your time on this.
Great view of the Wharf and Haines Point. Quiet spot to sit and relax by the fountain.
Great location near the National Mall.
Water is off today on June 24 but Im sure its beautiful when its on.
Beautiful views and the nearby eatery are good, especially in LEnfant Plaza, check out MOES MEXICAN GRILL, fresh fresh food, and tasty
Great place to purchase crabs, fish, and even soups and deserts! A gem to visit in DC.
Great view of the wharf. Walking distance to lefaunt plaza food court. Thats about it
Great view for a quick lunch or stop. Close to the SW water side, near the Department of Energy.
This was a nice grassy area but construction of the wharf has tore it all up.
