A historical site in Georgetown. The house is a good quick stop to see a bit of old Georgetown. It has signs and placards of the history of the house and Georgetown. They were working on the second floor and told us it will be set up like how it was when the house was built. There is a souvenir shop on the first floor and the ranger was very pleasant and helpful.
Georgetown is an adorable area great for walking and shopping ! We were with our puppy for the day and found this super cool Old Stone House.. has a lot of great facts about the area and home itself. There was a great garden area in the back as well which fortunately enough we got to bring our dog back there for a quick stroll and a nice little run around. Quiet and cute! Benches to rest tired feet as well.
Really cool historic site, which is supposedly haunted. Must see for history buffs and paranormal enthusiasts alike! The lady inside was super nice. I only rated it four stars because the upstairs was closed for renovation when I visited, which was disappointing. The house definitely has an eerie feel to it.
The only remaining relic of a pre-revolutionary abode located in Georgetown. The quaint stone house still exists as a present-day time portal exhibiting rooms, furniture, toys, and a fireplace as it would have appeared to the residents over 200 years ago. Ranger Jeff was a very friendly and knowledgeable curator of the property, making my wife and Is experience very enjoyable. Free admission and a gift shop as well!
Interesting old building with a cool story behind it. Not a lot to do or see at the moment, as renovations are being done. However once completed Id definitely recommend this house as a great way to learn about DC history. Also has a nice garden around back...
It is amazing to go into a place that was built before or country was even formed! They have not completed seeing up to tour the entire house just two rooms. You can walk around the entire house. Worth a visit but it will be really great when they finish opening the entire house to the public!
A neat attraction you can visit in Georgetown is the Old Stone House, which is the oldest surviving structure which remains in its original foundation remaining in the D.C. area. The attraction can be found right on M St. NW and is open from 11am to 6pm daily for visitations. This stone house was built in 1765 when the area formed part of the British colony of Maryland. Here you can see a prime example of early colonial and pre-revolutionary architecture, making use of blue granite material quarried nearby. Inside you will see several rooms with 18th century furnishing and a small book store section. There is also a small garden area in back, which makes for a good place to rest your feed before or after visiting the Old Stone House. This is a historically interest place as well, supposedly being the only remaining rectangular property from the original foundation of Georgetown back in 1751.Overall, a rather neat (and free) attraction to visit if you are spending time in Georgetown.
A walking tour of Georgetown is a nice change of pace from touring monuments and museums all day, and the Old Stone House is in the heart of Georgetown. To my understanding, this is the oldest building in Washington still in its original state and on its original foundation. So it is old for the area. Administered by the National Park Service.
My mom got a nail in her foot there it was sticking out and ripped in to here foot dont recommend.
What does original and unchanged mean if its being newly renovated?
Very cool place to visit but staff does not take care of their customer properly
This was such a beautiful place.
The upstairs was still closed for renovations so I couldnt get up there. I saw the downstairs back room and walked in the garden out back. The ranger was very informative. I am a collector of the National Parks cancellation stamps, and was able to get 6 stamps at this location, so that was nice. I wasnt able to visit the other 2 locations associated with Rock Park. The mill is closed and the planetarium show wasnt on until after I had to leave, so Ill catch those anther time. I think Id wait until renovations are complete before going out of my way to visit this site. Theres just not a lot to see right now.
Really neat to see and experience. Nice little 10 min stop if you like history and are walking around Georgetown.
The Old Stone House is a small museum, gift shop, and garden in the heart of Georgetown. Its run by Rock Creek Park and free for all to enter. The building itself is small, but its historical significance great. Its the oldest structure in the city still on its original foundation. The house is two levels and tiny. With reading through the exhibit, it may take 30 minutes to go through it all. Theres then a small gift shop in the front to browse. Outside in the backyard is a long garden with several benches for reading. Its a great spot to get some respite from the city.
Oh how I wish I could have gone upstairs! Im a history lover and it was amazing to be inside a home that has been around for a long time! We were able to go to the backroom and see the old fireplace and how homes were designed back then. It was amazing!
Good information. However, upper floors still being renovated so we could not go upstairs. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lots of shops and dining nearby.
Big garden you could walk through. Inside, only the cooking area was open for viewing. The rest is a souvenir shop. The history is cool and its free but dont plan on spending much time here.
Ehh...for the oldest home in the DC area it’s not much of an attraction. Walk through the gift shop to one room with some interesting facts.
Disappointed that the entire house was not open. It is Spring Break time for many States schools. The gentleman working the store was extremely nice, however. Also, some of the national parks passport things were sold out. It could have been better. The gardens need upkeep, even if it is not quite Spring. There was an old blanket in the back and trash.
It amazes me at how many tourists just go right past this National Park Service (NPS) location, and or have no clue as to that historical value it holds!Just verify it is open!
The Old Stone House is the oldest unchanged building in Washington, D.C., United States. The house is also Washingtons last Pre-Revolutionary Colonial building on its original foundation. Built in 1765
Old, rustic, colonial house from before DC was created. Interesting story and wonderful garden in the middle of the Georgetown bustle.
The park ranger was super knowledgeable and the cashier was the nicest guy ever. Also this place is super old the US. George Washington slept there man.
Well done curatorial exhibit
Very disappointed that only the downstairs was open. Loved the kitchen area, but the other room was a gift shop.
So much history and a very knowledgeable park ranger to tell you all about it!
Website stated an opening time of 11:00 am yet the hours were covered in tape - NOT open - disappointing after paying for parking.
Good information, only one room on show
Take your horse to the old stone house
The woman working in the gift shop today 6/23 in the afternoon has ZERO business being in customer service. She was rude and dismissive to my mom for no reason
It looks like a big park but it is quite small.
Lovely old historical building
Very small, but informative
Limited interest except if you are a history passionate
Lovely gardens, which has a nice variety of birds for a small area.
Great piece of history. Worth the stop. Parking is free on the back streets, but the challenge is finding an open space. The parking lot next to the Old Stone House is $30.
Was closed for structural renovations when I went but looked pretty from the outside. Was in sort of an awkward place since everything around the house had been rebuilt and modernized
Beautiful architecture building
Good to know Georgetown history
Hidden gem in Georgetown. Lovely backyard area with a bench all the way in the back letting you survey a sight seen as far back as 1765.
Unbilievably old.
Interesting, but not a lot to see.
The old-timers get stoned out back, then go in the house. The party is upstairs.
Awesome little home! It has been very well preserved and is a nice side stop on a walk through Georgetown.
Doesnt have anything really interesting.
Informative and beautiful
Great laid back wedding venue for our small ten person group, and a sweet oasis in the midst of Georgetown chaos.
I fell in love with this romantic house. Jealous of the family that used to live there.
Interesting historic place. Very friendly staff, and very knowledgeable.
We couldn’t see it, because it is closed and it will remain closed until Dec 2018!! I couldn’t find the way to update this info in google maps, the open hours appear as if it’s normally open.
Good touristic spot to go if you are around Georgetown
Place closed earlier than hours listed on website. Randomly located between a stores.
Almost the entire thing is shut down right now.
Cool
It was closed
Not much to see really.
Cute piece of history in unexpected area.
Nice and old...
Great garden in the middle of a concrete jungle!

Closed until December 2nd 2018 for renovations
Beauty
Couldnt go in, but cool looking on the outside
Never been there. Was looking forward to going. Got here and they are closed till Dec. 1, 2018. Thanks Google.
Lots of fun
Adorable
Spiritual
Haunted as hell
Under construction
In repairs
Too small.....
Small little house...if youre nearby its free...
Really interesting place
Old historical site!!!
Fun place to visit while in Washington DC.
