Check out one of Raleighs newest nature parks! I used to bring my dog and kids out here to walk down the abandoned highway 98 and go swim in the lake, and I was a little bummed when they closed off the area a couple years ago to build a new park. However, I can say Im really pleased with the way they built it out. Great walking/biking trail, really nice playground and picnic areas and the frisbee golf course is well used. Lately my son has discovered mountain biking and the single track trail at Forest Ridge Is one of the best in the area- both a great ride and really beautiful scenery.
Great park with playground, pavilions and picnic tables. We like to pick up dinner on the way, eat and then let the kids play. Our kids especially love the zip line!
Beautiful place. Lots to do! My daughter loves the zipline especially. The even have a fossil dig site!
We checked it out today to visit its seasonal disc golf course. Found it to be a nice nine hole course.
One of our favorite parks in the area!! Beautiful walk to the lake and amazing park.
Very new and clean looking park. The 9-hole disc golf course is fun, albeit long and difficult
Staff does a good job cleaning up the paths from both the wrath of Mother Nature and the less respectful guests who think the world is a trash bin. Thank you yall, we appreciate all the work you put in, especially during these trying times.I can almost always count on seeing some wild life- I see at least one squirrel every time Ive gone, Ive lost count of the box turtles Ive seen, and Ive also seen rat snakes, a worm snake, a doe, a copperhead, and a handful of toads as well! Wasnt super excited about the copperhead, but he was preoccupied with eating a toad, so.. it was okay haha
Nice open spaces, modern facilities, great Greenway and single track MTB trails with superb flow. Also cool to see old 98 fade into the lake.
A real treasure, located just outside of Wake Forest. Staff are wonderful and I have enjoyed seeing new trails and recreation opportunities (such as disc golf) added in the time since the park opened. The park also features a beautiful pollinator garden (at the parking lot turnaround circle, just past the playground). And, the playground is top-notch and includes a zip line for kids. The mountain bike trail (entrance is past the playground) is wonderful to hike during the day on a weekday, when few cyclists are on it. Just be sure to call ahead or check the signage at the park entrance, to make sure the mountain bike trail is open; following heavy rain, the teail is often closed for a day or two to prevent trail erosion. I love long walks at Forest Ridge with my dog and recommend it as a great place to take a picnic lunch or meet up with friends to walk! My only complaint is that the park lacks sufficient signage at present: first-time visitors often have to ask for directions in order to find the mountain bike trail entrance or pollinator garden.
This park has a great playground for kids. The play area is currently closed due to covid-19, but I would suggest checking it out when it reopens. I walked on the gravel peninsula trail. Its 1.2 mi out so 2.4 mi round trip. Good walk. Wide trail. I saw a beautiful hawk and lots of other pretty little birds. The trail is quiet and a lovely walk.
The fossil pit is my personal favorite and my son loves this park!
We just held a beautiful wedding ceremony there.
This is such a nice park to ride your bikes and have a nice lunch.
The pictures of this place are misleading. The water access is far from the actual park and not suitable for wading. The trail is nice for cycling. This park has a nice play area for kids but it is closed due to covid
This is a great park for children. Plenty to do. Climbing, sand table, zip line, slides, and swings. There are two picnic shelters that can provide shade or a clean spot to enjoy a meal. The bathrooms were shockingly clean. I can see the lack of shade being a problem in summer, but there arent many parks I can think of with covered play areas, so Im not removing any stars.
Fun unique park, well designed great for the kids.
Best place for kids. Fun zipline.
Awesome trails. I wish I found this place before the covid apocalypse.
We love this place! Its a very nice spot to take your family with children of a variety of ages. My wife and I take turns riding with our older children on the mountain bike trail, while the other will stay behind and play with the little ones at the playground structures. The trail is perfect for youngsters to cut their teeth in the sport mountain biking with great views of the lake. This a new facility with soft material under the play structures. The structures are not very high and allow your children to play without having to stress about them breaking their necks. There are restrooms with running water by the playground. There is also a paved walking path that goes around the playground for a stroll. Several picnic tables are situated under a roof structure to enjoy a packed lunch or to get out of the weather. There is also a very nice welcome center and meeting place.
Great park. Was easy to keep track of the kids and great padding. Cute zip line and different climbing activities for different ages. Place to have a picnic in the shade.
Lovely trails that give you lots of lake views
Great park. Really like the mtb trails.
We love this park! The zip line is sometimes broken, but I love the openness of this area. Theres two large playgrounds with something for all ages, two pavilions to utilize (if its not reserved) and a large field to play all sorts of sports! Also nearby are mountain bike trails which I have not done. Great park for birthday parties and celebrations. Both pavilions have a grill and plenty of trash cans. Also a full size bathroom.
Nice small park with fun mtb trails for all ages
Great place to chill
Fantastic park in so many ways. The playground has great equipment, the butterfly garden is spectacular, and today I was introduced to the hiking trails which have older trees and views that are sometimes hard to believe. We love Forest Ridge and will be back!
Fun MTB trail. Short, but fast and flowy.
We have been a couple times. Equipment is well maintained and the bathrooms are very clean. We love this park and will continue to visit here
I enjoyed this park. It has nice trails, great play area for the kids. My favorite part is the 9 hole disc golf course around and through the woods.
Flow and low elevation make for quick laps. Great for beginners! Take your kids!
Love this park, the zip line is awesome. Good walking trails. I hear there is mountain bike riding too! But I usually just go here for the kids.
We love this park/playground. Its fairly close to our home and has a great variety of equipment for kids to play on (with fun little activity stations), with an area for younger kids (toddlers) and a separate area for bigger kids. I love the paved trail that goes around the outside of the playground, great for walking and riding bikes. I just wish there were more shady spots. Its pretty wide open and all of the play equipment is in direct sunlight. There are a few areas to sit in the shade and a large shelter/pavilion with picnic tables, but today I had to have my son come sit down in the shade several times to avoid getting overheated and its late September. Well love coming here more as it gets cooler. :)
Forest Ridge Park is a great way to get away from everything, while not going very far. Not only that, but the trail is very wide and open, and its an easy walk out to the water. The water is beautiful. Falls Lake is a very large reservoir, that feels clean and you can allow your dog to swim if desired. I know my GS loved it!
Beautiful park tucked into a corner at the end of old country lane. I went there for the mountain bike trail which was well designed, flowed great and was fun for a beginner trail. Also lots of hiking trails. The center of the park has picnic shelters and playground for the family. The times I have been there on the weekends the playground area can be a bit crowded.
Walking and bike trails are nice, and surrounding park is gorgeous. Childrens playground area is very nice as well, and divided for ages, but there is absolutely no shade. On a sunny day, all the plastic equipment, and rubber ground, are blazing hot. On cloud days, or more spring/fall weather, this park is perfect. In the summer, try another playground. Around the playground there are two separate areas with tons of covered picnic tables which make parties nice and easy, but again, dont do it in the summer as the playground will be literal lava.
Nice place to just relax. Listen to the river.
This is a beautiful new park. The playground is great for kids, and the whole family can enjoy the hiking trail. I have never been on the bike trail, but you should call ahead to see if it is open/closed due to the weather
Fast flowy non technical ride
Awesome tucked away park with lots of walking trail (distance) around the peninsula. Family Park area for small ones, bathrooms, and dog stations along the way.
Great walking trails - pet friendly, too! The playground is on the smaller side and the zipline had a constant line. There are bathrooms and water fountains.
We love it there my kids had a blast I will have another birthday party there again
Challenging and well-maintained bike and hiking trails with great views, nice facilities, and close to civilization.
Love this park! Has paved walking trails for strollers. Swings for infants, disabled and older kids. Has covered seating and access to Falls Lake. Great for older and younger kids. The ground is soft so you can bring your crawlers. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff is nice. Highly recommend for all ages. There is also a natural play area behind the welcome center. It’s a short easy hike that isn’t paved and child friendly.
This park offers a variety of trails and are awesome being so close to town you can still feel like you are getting away even with a quick walk.
Forest Ridge is a fairly new access to Falls Lake at the end of old N.C. 98 in northern Wake County. Some of the trails leading to the water are old farming gravel roads. Hikes are short, less than 1-2 miles round trip, and pretty untouched. Mountain bikers were using the trails and it would be good exercise for that, with some elevations. Fishing and hosting allowed, no swimming or camping.
Very nice and relatively new park near Wake Forest. A hidden gem. Recommended for families. Very good play area and two covered large group picnic areas. Hike or bike to lake nearby park.
Wide trails (roads) take you along old 98 to the waters edge or take the longer left road to the very tip of the peninsula for a peaceful view of Falls Lake, but bring your own folding chair because there are no benches (yet?). Plenty of deer around to make the 1.5 mile longer walk worth it as well. For the less tick averse try one of the 3 tighter trails: One takes you North off of the road, one goes from the welcome center to the park and one ties the two roads together. Or meditate in the wildlife garden near the playground. Build a permanent disc golf course and theyll earn a fifth star from me.
Nice springy/soft rubber surface at the playground, kiddos wont get hurt if they fall. No shade structures over any of the play area however, and the rubber ground was very hot. (We were there on a 70° day and the heat radiating off the ground definitely cut our trip short.) The equipment was very hot too. But, on a cool or cloudy day this playground is great! There are plenty of other things to do besides the playground, and the picnic shelters are huge and very nice.
Great park with lots of play equipment for various ages! My grandson also enjoyed a nature walk along trails that were right across the parking lot from the play area!
I really enjoy Forest Ridge Park as a place to take my kids to play. It is always clean, well maintained and enjoyable. It is really a hidden gem. This park features places to walk and run, a play park and fields. They also have a bathroom. Come check it out.
Nice mountain bike trails if a bit short. Problem is that they are closed 70% of the time. Whoever is in charge won’t open them until they’re totally bone dry.
Beautiful park. Great for biking and hiking and just relaxing. Take a hike to the lake or hike the trails arou d the park. Great for children and family gatherings. Great for soccer or kickball or tag football. Nice park. Nice hat away.
This is an awesome park. There are 2 pavilions here...but they are typically rented out, and outside of those 2 there is virtually no shade. So be prepared to be hot! There are some really nice trails here, and the welcome center offers some explorer packs that I got for my kids and they loved going on the hike and using all the little gadgets to explore nature. Very Cool!!
Came here to mountain bike. Nice facilities. Easy biking. Smooth groomed trails with nothing technical. Good to pedal hard and practice turns.
There are many great parks in the Wake Forest area. This one is very nice PLUS it has a kids zip line. My 4 year old loves that there is a dinosaur to ride, and my 8 year old stays on the zip line the entire time. This is a great addition to the area. There used to be frisbee golf nets and players here. However, the last time I visited, I didnt see them there any longer.
Great park for the kids that had a zip line. Also hiking and biking trails
Nice new park. Could be a bit more shaded but nice to have the picnic areas so close. Zipline was out of commission and some of the more frequent park goers said that it normally isnt running.
Wonderful place to mountain bike and hike, with beautiful views of the lake. Bike trails are good for all levels of riders.
Beautiful around the water
Fantastic park! Nice addition to the Raleigh park scene. Love how this one is kept pretty much as it was. Nice playground with some unique elements. You can come out for a round of disc golf. Great hiking trails that go all the water to the water.
Nice park for hiking, good play area for kids
This park is super fun. Very clean and new. The zip line is the show stopper for the kids. Lots to do with picnic tables, rocking animals, and large playing structures. It is full sun so wear sunscreen or go on an overcast day.
Park seemed to be well maintained and well lighted in dawn. Staff in Welcome center were friendly. I hope map from Welcome center can be more illustrative. Trails could have more road and direction signs, especially for first time visitors. Somehow, the mens room was locked. Overall, we had great experience.
One of the best trails period is not to long but is really fun
The MTB trails here are really nice. Fast and flowy and really well maintained. Not a lot of elevation but they are fun and a nice view around the lakeside part of the trail. One of my new favorite trails for a quick ride.
Grab a book and easily spend a morning/afternoon here. There are visitors, but not crowded 99% of the time. Nice water front and river/valley view. Aircrafts in and out of rdu take route right above this park. Two BBQ grills with canopy and one restroom at the entrance. Parking could be challenging in peak hours.
This is a wonderful park. My daughter loved it!! She really loved the zipline. Its clean, great walking trail, nice playground lots of parking, great open space to play ball and run around. Nice bike trail picnic and BBQ area! We will return. The young lady and young man in the welcome center was very nice!!
Great park. Convenient parking, bathrooms, paths, and great playground.
Very nice. I only rode the mountain bike trail but I like it. Smooth and fast and not very technical. No granny gear hill climbs.
Great park. Hidden from public. Great trails for hiking, walking and biking. Lake nearby. Playground for kids. Bathrooms onsite. Clean and well kept.
Nice park
There are two big picnic shelters and a visitor center here, but my main interests was the trails. You can get down to the lake in just a few minutes by taking the main trail down the hill to the right of the visitor center but if you take the road to the left of it youll walk all the way down the peninsula to the tip of it. Theres some great views there as well as at the center point of the small hiking trail to the right as soon as you start walking past the gate. The trails and gravel roads are in good condition and I would describe the difficulty as easy to easy moderate.
Great park for couples or especially with kids, also great trails for mountain biking and hiking (separate trails)
Great park area and beginner level single track mountain bike trail.
Beautifully maintained. Great hiking and outdoor experience. Beginner mountain biking trail.
Playground has some unique features, but no shade canopies or trees so you cant use it most of the day. Trails arent paved, but are gravel, making them impossible to use too. The visitor center has nothing in it but flyers. This could be an awesome park if a few changes were made.
Great parks and rec programs during the week for little ones! Highly recommend a day trip to play, eat in the covered patios right off the playground, and use the kid-friendly zip line!
Fun, but really hot in the summer because of the lack of shade over the play area. Plenty of shelter over the many picnic tables though.
Amazing park with fun things to do for all ages. Its my new favorite park!
We rented the meeting room for my baby shower. Its definitely a cute park, nice trails, secluded and they over lots of family activities
Playground looks and smells like it hasnt been cleaned in years.
I love this place and my kids do to. We just found it and we will be visiting more because there is stuff for my older kids to do and thats always a plus.
Very short but nice trail. Great for kids learning.
Nice park and I heard good things about the bike trails.
No canoe launch, no disc golf course. Bummer. Its great of you have little kids for the playground. With only a few miles of MB trails, it was a disappointment. They really shouldve included more activities for big kids.UPDATE: some new trail areas and talk of disc golf course gives me hope. They have a few miles of MB trails I havent tried yet, but plan to. I talked to a few riders who said theyre decent. Been here half dozen times since first review so they are doing something right. I hope it keeps improving. Please open the gate, so there is a canoe launch we dont have to hike to!
