The primitive camp sites are a little close together but it makes it a little easier to make friends. Everyone was nice. The bath house was clean and the showers where hot. And the lake is full of fish. Lots of wildlife as well we saw squirrels deer, ducks, loons, osprey tons of birdshad a run in with a screech owl that roosted right above our tents. Lol to top it off we saw a huge bald head eagle catch a fish and scream in the air. We had a blast and will come back
Clean and safe. Well maintained facilities and campgrounds. Friendly staff.
The campsite was sufficient. We were at holly pointe #113. I loved how the cars were right there with you im the driveway. I loved how the bathhouse was right across from me. There was a water pump at the end of our driveway that was very convenient when we needed to wash dishes or put the fires out. We were very close to the playground which was great. The lake was beautiful but we couldnt get in the water because it was closed. That was a bummer because it was hot. The trail walk was horrible tho. There was no rhyme or reason. It was hard to follow because the trail blended in with the regular ground. Not enough signs to say go this way. We just ended up giving up. It was no longer fun. Just frustrating. Then there were things that couldnt be controlled like being shot at by big acorns throughout the day non stop. The loud airplanes flying over your head at night. & a million gazillion daddy long legs that have taken over. They were everywhere. But hey thats their home. Were the visitors. But all im all it was a nice 1st experience.
Found our campsite to be well separated from others. Was a great place to relax and laz away the day. The access to the water was just a short drive away from the campsites and the kayaking was great.
Good water for fishing. Clean facilities. Nice boat ride
Great place for tent camping, rv camping, boating. The facilities are nice and clean.
Shinleaf campground is beautiful, with lots of old, interesting trees make it cooler in the summer. Its hike-in, but a short hike for some sites, while others pretty much require backpacking gear or a wagon to haul stuff. The trade-off is that you dont have cars driving by as you sleep (though people can still be awake and moving). Bathrooms and showers are nice to have and usually stocked with soap and TP. And if dinner goes wrong, youre not too far from Bojangles or Harris Teeter.
Falls Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes youll ever see. It is also a trophy bass lake, favored by the tournaments every year. In Autumn, the mix of hardwoods and evergreens paints a heavenly picture. The park is always maintained well by the staff and the boat launches are just right, with any water level. Love this place.
Very quiet, mid-week in the off-season. There are nice and easy trails through the woods and by the lake.
If you are just trying to escape the city, this is probably the place for you. If you are already from a rural area, I wouldnt recommend this place, unless you want to camp near the cityThere was an awful lot of noise pollution. Cars from the road just outside the campground, jets from RDU, and frequent traffic inside the campground.Falls lake is a very nice lake. I have a kayak and found it impossible to avoid the wake of boats because of how narrow it is. But, there are some very nice coves off the main channel that offer great paddling. There is also a trail that goes between the two sides of the campground. It took about 25 mins, or so, to hike and there are signs that have the species of some of the trees (many need to be repaired). All in all, it was an enjoyable experience.
Many of the campsites here look wonderful. We did not get one of those. Site 9 should be closed. It is narrow and down an incline. It is not at all level, and is incredibly muddy. Folks, putting down some gravel to level the site and prevent tracking mud through the camper is a minimum that could be done. The table and fire ring are located at the bottom of old, steep stairs. I’m surprised no one has seriously injured themselves there. Truthfully, the site should be closed.
Kind of disappointed. Booked a 30 amp site. When we arrived, our surge suppressor was stating Reverse Polarity. Had a neighbor check it with theirs and results were the same. Didnt want to chance any electrical issues. They were full and couldnt move us. We just went home. Bummer.
Love this campground! Plenty of good lots, some more open, some more secluded. Bathouses are very well kept. Staff and rangers are very nice. We wish they stayed open year round though!
Beautiful lake. Camping sites where you can launch a kayak directly from your site. Boaters on the lake were extremely polite and as a kayaker that means a lot (honestly so much better than the boaters on Jordan Lake). Beautiful area and you can get in 5 miles of walking if you simply walk the camping loops. Had a fabulous time camping there. Cannot believe Ive lived in the area 28 years and just realized how fabulous it is.
They clean the bath house ALOT. LOL we had a great time.
This was a great campground. Not too crowded, no one bothered anyone. Saw a few rangers drive by. The thing I liked the least was the bath house had showers that were the times ones. You have to push it in, the water runs and eventually you have to push the thing in again to get the water to run. Not terrible, just a little inconvenient. Wonderful lake access right down the road. There were beautiful deer. We had a great time!
Falls Lake State Park is beautiful and we cant wait to come back to explore more. We were only able to visit two of the areas during our short visit. Come with a plan for the areas of the park you want to see.
Great park that gives you a great experience in the ok outdoors while being within 45 min of anywhere in the triangle!
Wonderful experience! I loved the setup they had, and the bathrooms were weirdly spectacular (for park bathrooms at least)
Quiet, quaint, and cheap weekend vacations, decent prices, take out and eat in within walking distance. Beautiful lake side view and picturesque setting. Good getaway to get some alone with hot momma time, allows smoking too but rooms need updating.
Awesome. Plenty of camping space and beautiful. The park personnel are very helpful.
The place is beautiful but the ranger on the night shift are rude and has no comunication with the ones in the morning. One in the night tells us to pack and go only because the ranger in the morning tell us we can us the generator an we put it on, we explained that to him and he get mad. For that we are not coming back again and I give 1 star. The bathroom was clean all the time that was good
I had an amazing time here. I never thought I would swin in a lake but Im so glad I did. Its great to bring all your water toys and chill all day.
Great park close to Triangle. Nice hiking trails and campgrounds
Ive been here only a couple times. Once just to walk around and another to do a little fishing. Really enjoyed both visits. Its a very active place without feeling like you are on top of a bunch of other people. The only reason it doesnt get 5 stars is because I feel like $7.00 a visit (or $75 for an annual pass) is a little expensive.
Rolling view loop C #24, #26 & #27Nice large sites with large driveways fit 4 cars on most. Nice big natural area between sites. More room between sites than most others Ive stayed at. Bath house is nice some new upgrades. Staff was best of any Ive seen.
Really beautiful view and good fishing spot.
Nice area. Right distance from cities around. Well maintained. So many picnic and grill places. Not many people during the week. Worth the $7 day pass.
Very nice RV site locations, beautiful lake. The only downside, was sites needed grass cutting maintenance on a more consistent basis, other than that, I would recommend.
Camping at Holly Point is the best! Every site is a winner.
This is a very relaxing place. With the recent rains the water is up very high.
What a great relaxing location. Beautiful views! Not crowded. Just perfect for family and friends. The accommodations are great for large gatherings or small.
Always a pleasant and serene place, very close to highway, and especially a place to hang out and do some hiking in the COVID days
Very nice campground. The sites are large, wooded and spread out. The bathroom facilities were clean, cleaned four times a day. We will def come back.
Beautiful view with alot of trails and a nice fishing pier. Very cool
Always something interesting to see on the trail. Today it was a snake... eating this other snake.
Nice area. Part of the NC Mountain to Sea Trail. Easy hiking.
Great place to take a break from the city!! Beautiful lake with plenty of walking paths. I would highly recommend Blue Jay Point as a place to spend a family gathering or just go for a hike on one of the numerous trails. If you take the path off of the second round about it will take you to an almost magical peninsula on the lake with rocks and trees that feels romantic. The park closes at sunset though!!
Very nice lake well maintained bathhouse a lil dated but not nothing to ruin the time! Love the camping the pads was actually a decent size and held all of our equipment!
Love camping here! Lots of shade and the campsites are spaced far enough apart to ensure some privacy!
Its amazing how quickly this Lake was made back in 1988
A very clean campsite with a great fire pit and clean well-lit restrooms! 10/10 will visit again
We had a beautiful day on the lake. Picnic lunch on a lovely sand beach. The ramps and parking space are all good. Just dont take out at 3pm. All the fishermen were leaving then!#
Beautiful area for picnics, gatherings, and spontaneous sporting events. The fields and lake were huge. The water of the lake is very brown, but isn’t absolutely disgusting. Great jumping cliffs with deep landing zones, super awesome for adventures. I would recommend this spot to anybody, but make sure to pack Sunscreen!!!!!
Great place to go if you just want to get out & paddle around a little. Was going to put in at the hwy 50 boat launch, but the line was too long to get in. It was well worth the $7 entrance fee, and no big boats.
Had a lot of fun here. My son had a blast. Will definitely go again
We Hit Beaver Damn area for short hike and picnic with the kids. Lake access for kayak or other floating things. Mountain bike trails here as well. Lots to do for a small entry fee.
Beautiful lake and area. RV camping was very nice, roomy, clean firepit. Showers were clean but a little tight. Overall wonderful experience
I have enjoyed walking and picnicking here. Would be a great place to canoe, as well!
Nice facility, good boat ramps with bathrooms nearby. Lots of motorized boats and jet skis but also good coves for kayaking.
This is amazing!!! The only downfall is the bugs can get ya!!! But it is downright top notch. The hike in camping is some of the best in the area!
We stayed in Site 26 on Holly Ridge. Always a good time. Nice walking trails. Lake is busy on weekends but not on Monday. I highly recommend. Our 2nd time and we will be back for a 3rd.
Beautiful place, large sites, and nice people. Only wish that I could stay longer. Bath houses are clean and nice and the lake is beautiful.
A favorite place to camp with a group of friends, near the water.
Beautiful lake to explore by boat. I stayed at Holly Point campground where there is a boat launch and swimming area. Lost one star for unheated bathhouse!
Cool mushrooms everywhere on the hiking trails. Nice place.
Surprised to find this swim beach, boat launch, hiking trails, and small playground all in one spot. I am not sure if there is a regular admission fee as we drove past the closed booth at the entrance. However, we had a nice evening visit and enjoyed the park and its amenities. We will be back with canoes and to walk the dogs soon!
Nice place to launch a boat. About a year ago, it seemed they didnt open the office during weekend.
The camp sites were clean and were pretty comfortable. a pretty good price as well
Was nice & quiet. Had nice site but a few were steep. Had a nice time.
Great spot. Nice being on the water with plenty of things to do.
Great location for trail hikes, Beaver Dam area.
Great place for kids, adults, water activities, and peaceful camping! We spent the July weekend in the Rolling View section (B53) and never even ventured to other areas of the larger park, as we had plenty to occupy us right near our campsite. We swam, fished (free on July 4 only, licensed otherwise) hiked a few short trails, built a bonfire with magic colors, and even had our two water-cautious dogs swimming with us! Its alcohol-free, very quiet with large (many shaded) sites. Lots of friendly kids around, and firewood for sale onsite. Id give it 5 stars if it had either 50amp service or sewer hookups at the campsites (or both!) The wastewater dump site is very near and easily accessible, but you still have to move or use a hauler. Theres no bait sold onsite, so visit the nearby marina or other bait stores first, if youre fishing. The water was very warm, with only catfish biting (worms) near shore. Theres a small playground, and the bath house was well kept, though the shower plumbing was inconsistent between hot and cold directions! (Test the shower water temp first for younger folk!) All in all a nice place for a camping getaway!
Beautiful place. Didnt know it existed
Very clean park. We had fun swimming and so did our dogs. I just wish there was clearer signage since we drove by the swimming part twice before we saw it
Peaceful and pretty! Nice place to relax.
Not too busy. Eagles, herons, osprey are common. Beautiful area
Beautiful place to relax swim peace full amd cheap to get in tables and grills its just amazing
Wonderful open space. Lots to do.
Very nice place ..Come visit .office open and employees very helpful.
Camp sites are huge and theres plenty of space between them. Bathrooms are clean (they clean them four time a day). The lake is beautiful. I have no complaints!
Super nice park with cool lake views, nice hiking trails and some picnic areas for families.
We had a great day boating as a family. I highly recommend as lots of space, smooth water, lots of areas to explore!
This was a nice campground and we enjoyed our stay. The staff and hosts were all very helpful. Our biggest complaint was that the showers were very small.
Docks are not well maintained, especially Route 50 which charges admission yet their docks create boat damage and accidents because they docks have exposed metal insteas of boat protective material. Been going on for years
Loved the walk to camp sites. Hiking trails and lake all close by. We hiked through and saw group camp site that were very spacious. Our camp site was cute and close to bathrooms with showers.
Great huge lake full of places to hang out and even enjoy the “beach”. Bring your sunscreen and bug spray though. Lots of great picnic places and decent bathroom facilities. I’d love to cruise it on a boat as well. The campgrounds are great, two families have stayed at the hookup areas for RVs. Enjoyed the stay both times, and even cooked out here at the “grill” areas.
Very quiet and mostly empty through the week in the middle of June. Holly point campground had many electric sites still available and almost all non-electric sites were empty. Public bathrooms and showers were typical for a campground, not new or prestine, but adequate.
Beautiful lake.Wish the parks were free however, fee to launch a boat as opposed to the Duke chain of lakes
Always a great lake to go to. Nice boat ramps.
Awesome time on the reservoir. Non residential with tons of shoreline to stop for a bite.
Falls lake is an amazing recreation area. Weve been here several times, shout out Loop B woot woot..clean bath houses, great are swimming and boating, clean camp sites and great folks. Fishing pier at loop b is nice as well though tbh weve never caught a fish there, if you catfish youll have luck but its not great for anything else unless you bring your boat as well. Jet skis can be launched and the ridden to your loop and moored for daily fun close to your camp site.
Husband and 1 kid caught 3 fish today at Beaver Dam area and all 5 of us with dog did the Foxtrot Trail. Had it to ourselves except for the 3 toads, 1 lizard and a fawn. Not crowded a little busy in spots around the lake. Bathrooms clean and stocked.
Falls Lake is absolutely beautiful and offers many spacious parks. There are tons of picnic tables and picnic shelters, and a few swimming areas. Its kept clean. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because some of the park rangers can be a bit Nazi-ish. However, most are nice.
Best place to camp and not too far from home! Lighting bugs are amazing at dusk in July!!
Falls Lake is the go-to hangout come spring and summer for North Raleigh residents!! Love fishing and relaxing here.
It is a good place to de-stress, but they should let people fish without a license, because only seeing others fish is very boring. I think they let them fish without a fishing license
Came all the from Norway and I had heard about this place. wow. amazingly beautiful area setting everything. nice fishing spots. Great toilet facilities. View... Ill be back more fishing. More fun. Wow i love this place, and the location you can even hear the fish swim in the water, even the woods here have some rest places. good space for parking. GO for a visit up in Wake Forest.
Very well maintained, Rangers are very professional and helpful. We feel safe here.
Peaceful walk. Deer at night.
Great lake, great water. Amazing fun!!
Beautiful wooded camping sites. Pretty lake with gorgeous rocky shores and many coves to explore.
Great place to fish. Kids loved it.
Very nice private lake access from camp site, lots of fun, clean bath house
