This is part of my raising up. Its alot different now but probably more family oriented.
Great place to walk your dogs. Its an even better place to go take a dip in the river. You will want shoes because of the broken glass. There is over 6 miles of trails that loop off a road so its easy to stay on track. The 1.3 mile look can be confusing because of unmarked forks but its not impossible to find your way out. There is very little hikers there ive only seen two people. I walk my dogs there at least 4 times a week here. Its a super great place!!!
This is a great place to go for hiking. There are many options on different trails. The views are very relaxing and I never get tired of this.
Park is dirtier than I remember it being a few years ago but it is still a nice place to go to with the kids and maybe even bring along the dogs.
Great place to go rock climbing. The walls may not be tall, but there are still many routes you can take. If you dont want to drive an hour, climb here
This place is called a park, but they keep it pretty close to nature. There is a pavilion when you first enter, but after that there are only dirt trails with a few benches. I love this place for a quick hike and swim with my pups when Im feeling the call of the wild. Its very beautiful (especially on a slightly foggy day) and serene most of the time.
Great trails! Bring some bug spray!
Park is nice. We were there to use the hiking trails which are also nice but not very will marked. Views are probably very nice in the fall/winter when the trees are bare.
Nice quiet place. Cool shady areas. Small pavilion for family and friends to get together. Small waterfalls. A favourite swimming area on hot summer days.
Beautiful. Well maintained trail. Easy creek access. I am begging everyone to clean up the trash you bring! Clean up all of it! There was weave in the parking lot. Beer bottles and chip bags on the ground. Please keep our natural spaces free of trash!
This is a favorite place of our family. We just wish other people would not leave their trash behind especially since there are trash cans. There are hiking and biking trails. There is also the creek to cool you off in the summer.
Very nice place to go to hike and wade in the cool water of the creek.
Nice walking paths
Its a great place to run and relax by the stream. I would recommend it.
Really enjoy riding the trails at Hurricane Creek. Would love to see more trails added so this place could be a destination park for mountain biking.
Nice and quite. Beautiful right on the creek. Grill, cool off, play Frisbee
Great place to go exercise. Always helps to come here and get the stress off of my mind.
It’s not really fun to swim here. One deep place only. Also I must say this place isn’t like it use to be.
Nice trails with lots of cool rocks to explore! Nice spots along the trail to relax by the creek.
This place is beautiful. Crystal clear water, nice cool temperature, easy access for children with a slow moving water. For the most part the water is approximately 2.5 - 3.0 feet deep. There is ample parking and the walk from the parking lot is probably only 150 yards.I would give it five stars if it wasnt for the main stream visitors who leave much to be desired. Being that its completely free, the area has been proliferated with Alabamas finest residents. Your typical redneck/NASCAR fan is polluting the place with beer bottles and cans, dirty diapers, cigarette butts, food wrappers, plastic cups, etc. as of August 2017.As an alternative, I would recommend Lake Lurleen about 15 miles from the university. For a small fee (I think it was around $12 for a family of four), you get warm water, clean beach, bathrooms, and more favorable clientele. The water varies in depth but is probably no more that 4.5 deep in the swimming area. The park looks like something out of a summer camp themed movie. There is plenty of parking, sites to picnic and eat, and some playgrounds. And the walk from your car to the beach is probably only 75 yards.
Very Clean and relaxeing
Trail well marked. Did 5.1 miles. Could have done more. Beautiful trails.
Beautiful views, decent hiking. Main trails are fairly boring, but long. Eagle Scout trail is a lot of fun, but not very long.
Repeat visitors
This place is awesome! A lot of great sights and the trails are maintained very well!
Good place for outing
Theres a cool creek that flows through this park.
Kind of a hidden gem. Small trail network with a scenic river. Some Alabama artifacts are spread throughout the forest, which is interesting.
I will agree with the reviewer who said it is starting to get a little funky as it gains popularity, they need more of a police presence. However, Hurricane Creek is a beautiful gem in the state of Alabama, and recently the trailkeepers have added a new trail further down the creek that provides some great views. EO WIlson did his doctoral work here, and he called Hurricane Creek one of the most varied habitats outside of the Tibetan steppes.
Great place to hike!
Great park for a short hike!
What a great local hidden gem!!!The water is rock bedded and crystal clear! There is a medium size main beach area, other wise its pretty much up to you to explore and find a cool spot to have some fun in the water and sun. And on their trails (pay attention to your surroundings, theyve marked paths with a few swipes of blue paint on trees to keep you in the right direction). No alcohol, glass (obvious reasons) or fires/BBQs allowed. Open from dusk until dawn; I belive the little sign says 7pm. Park rangers make a presence to ensure everyone is safe and having fun. PLEASE PICK UP YOUR TRASH! THERE ARE SEVERAL GARBAGE CANS, IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS, PLEASE USE THEM! Im from out of town and couldnt stand seeing the locals just toss their beer cans, food wrappers, cigarettes, etc right on the ground ( some right next to garbage cans!) Seriously?! Have some common decency people! Especially the locals. We were talking to some locals and they threw their unfinished food and wrappers over their shoulders into the grass/woods... I Couldnt belive what I was seeing! I picked it up and handed it right back to them; I tried to be as PC and polite as possible...they ended up cleaning up more garbage after we finished our conversation. Anyways, there are really cool hiking trails that lead you to some spectacular rock structures. The terrain under the water and above the water is really interesting; big slabs of rock are submerged and some above water. According to the locals, in the last few decades the water level has significantly decreased, but there are still some good spots that are pretty deep. You can definitely sit in the water, go tubing, walk down the river (may have to swim through a few parts unless you jump up on a trail to avoid that),swim, and kayak. What we explored, being long time kayakers, we wouldnt drop our boats in, too many shallow places. Maybe farther down river but we only went about half a mile down the river from the main beach. As of now, June of 2016, its free to enjoy this piece of mother natures playground but I do think in the future they will start to change money. They have put in a nice parking lot, porta johns, gazebo, etc and as previously stated, park rangers come through; all the above cost money...just my opinion though. Thanks to a local mechanic, we enjoyed a wonderful day, enjoyed it so much we decided to grab a hotel for the night so we can spend a full day there tomorrow :) we would have never found this glorious place if he didnt tell us. Just a really spectacular place to enjoy the water, sun, family, friends and mother nature. We plan on making a road trip from home (MI), back here in August with some friends. THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO COOL OFF ON A HOT SUMMERS DAY! I do recommend some kind of water shoes if you want to walk down the river- the rocks are very slippery and sometimes cant be avoided. Remember, drink lots of water and pick up after yourselves!!! It wont kill you or cost you anything to pick up other peoples trash, I promise it wont! Every little gesture counts! :)
Great place to hike.
Very cool place to go and hike
Will be back for sure.
Love
