Cattus Island County Park is a beautiful place to take a nice walk. The park is pet friendly so you dont have to leave your dog at home. The boardwalk is a fun easy walk through the marsh as birds fly all around you. A nice park that I feel most people dont seem to know about.
Well we went for an easy walk today at Cattus Island. We took the Butterfly Bog trail and actually saw 3 butterflies. The breeze felt good, but the green flies didnt feel so good. We walked thru a tree bone yard that was interesting and saw this unidentified large bird in his/her nest. Not crowded and everyone was distancing responsibly.
Great park. Very clean with great trails and open spaces. The kids had a great time looking at the abundance of wildlife$
Nice place for hiking, biking, birding . There is a Nature center with live reptiles, turtle, jelly fish etc. The trails are full of natural resources. We found jellyfish and blue crabs near blue trails. Super clean restroom, plenty of parking lot. Safe area and people are nice . They have a butterfly garden with monarch, humming birds and lots of native flowers. End of the main path starts the orange trail which takes you on a beautiful boardwalk amidst the marsh.
Nice place for a hike all the way to the beach.
Cattus Island is a beautiful place to walk. The trails are well kept and clean.
Great walking/bike path, with some easy nature trails that offshoot. Views are good and easily accessible.Side note: be mindful of the season because of flies and ticks. They can ruin the day.
Been going here since I was a toddler. Great trails to walk and take photos on. Some end on a beach thats typically pretty empty.
Cattus Island is a great place all year round... Roughly 7 mile trail loop if you combine all the outside mark paths from the parking lot, water access for kayaks/canoes/SUP boards at the Bandon entrance, fishing if you dont mind carrying your gear, playground for the kids and a nice environment center with a butterfly garden. Just remember but spray
Very clean lots of wild life nice people with their dogs & great park employees
Beautiful back bay scenery. Very underutilized but the trails are mostly paved with wooden walkways over the marshes. Tons of birds and other wildlife to see. I would love to spend an entire day and night just taking pictures of the wildlife.
It is perfect combo of ocean, marsh, woods and 10,000+ steps hike. Recommend the blue trail
Great park for trail walking. Well maintained. We really liked the orange trail with the board walk done by eagle scouts! Sunset is beautiful by the water.
Beautiful park with amazing nature trails.
Absolutely beautiful. As beautiful of a place as there is on earth.
Beautiful park worth checking out. Walk or jog to the end. Well worth seeing all the nature.
Beautiful park for a nice hike!
Beautiful weather. Beautiful day to be outdoors
We love this place, so well taken care of and so much to see every time you go. Love,it here!
Its a nature trail- how can someone not give it 5 stars? Love the easy-to-navigate trails, varied landscapes, and clean/maintained trails.
Beautiful place for families and nature lovers. Park for kids and lots of trails for older adventurers. Great butterfly garden and bird watching spots. Heard it can be quite buggy in the hotter summer months but perfect for spring and fall visits. Could spend many hours here learning and exploring. Free admission to interactive wildlife building. Lots of parking and easy to navigate! Plus water out and available for dogs!
Beautiful, we just didnt have enough time.
It was a very peaceful walk, very good learning experience about the difference plant and trees.
Great place to take your dog for a long walk
This is a wonderful place to take a walk through nature and also bring your dogs with you!
They have so much to enjoy within the park itself that it is hard to find things not to like about it! They have little boardwalk paths between the marshy areas; they have picnic areas with tables and benches; they have bike trails and little side paths to explore (just dont forget your tick repellant); and then, about a mile into the gravel trail, you hit the actual beach area. It prob isnt the cleanest but I always take of my shoes & socks and walk along the shore there. Literally no one bothers you. So peaceful.
One of my favorite parks!
Super cool little park by the bay!
I grew up in this neighborhood and i know this park like the back of my hand! Nature at its finest! Great place for photography, swings for the kids, take a bike ride, a jog, or a walk! Go all the way to the end and explore the roads less taken. ALWAYS CHECK YOURSELF FOR TICKS
Went here on a mild winter day and quite enjoyed. The playground is pretty bare which would have disappointed me if I had gone for that. The little recreation building with some live reptiles and stuffed animals was a hit with my young children. We enjoyed the paths and would definitely return in the future.
1st time here. Nice and peaceful feeling
Peaceful and beautiful . Trails, birds and the bay.
What a beautiful park with lots of wildlife. Spotted 2 deer, a fox and lots of Birds. Would nightly recommend to visit.
A great place to go for a walk or run. Short paths and longer mile plus ones available along bay and marsh area
Very nice park. Scenic foresty trails with access to sandy beaches.
Off shore in boat. Nice place
Great nature hiking trails. Very secluded. We saw some families taking family photos. Simply breath taking.
Lovely park with trails along the Barnegat bay.
Absolutely blown away by how gorgeous it was. Crazy number of beautiful birds - especially ospreys. Did the main trail plus blue, blue extension and orange trails.
Sweet trails, water access everywhere, benches to sit and enjoy the peace of the water lapping against the shore...
Nice spot to walk & see nature. Lots of events for familys.
Fun, fun since I was 3 years old
Went on a nature walk it was amazing.
Very cool place to enjoy the bay and wildlife.Great clean restroom and Environment center welcome center for the park.Good place for shore hiking trails and photographing. If in the area worth to check out.
Great place to take the boat
Nice trail that takes you past a beach
Great nature park lots of walking trails and very educational with information about the area
A TR gem. Lots of trails and natural beauty. Great place to hike, run, fish, go on a date, or camp.
Beautiful but too hot today!
It was so nice. Just watch out for ticks.
I love taking my dog for hikes here. Plenty of sights and smells for her to take in. She loves it!
My family loves Cattus Island park! Theres a nice nature center which was rebuilt after hurricane Sandy, light trails for biking, walking and jogging. Theres a newer playground with a a few things for those with special needs too. This park is open to pets and theres always a lot of dogs. Be prepared to do a thorough check for ticks when you get home as with all wooded areas in NJ.
Just another slice of of heaven at the Jersey Shore . If you had enough of the beach, travel inland to this beautiful park. Fun for the whole family .
Was good time here with friend maybe not family for here but I do love the outdoors here and was a ton of fun and can’t wait for it going out again
Wow. What a rare beauty by the Jersey shore. Beautiful paths a great education center. Nice place to go and walk or bike ride
Love cactus island! Wish there was less ticks, just be careful
This park is one of my favorites. The visitor center provides activities for kids including binoculars and a viewing area for bird watching. Feeders are setup so the opportunity to spot a bird is abundant, we usually see a chipmunk or squirrel too. They also have crafts and events from time to time which my son always enjoys. Outside the visitor center you can also view the area and walk to the observatory. There is a butterfly garden which was also a big hit.The playground and picnic area are both shaded and another great spot to check out. The boardwalk trail is an easy path leading to the beach area. On a hot day the breeze is a bonus. We’ve also taken some great photos of the osprey along the way.
Great Place to go for outside trails
Family & dog friendly.
Omg this place is besutiful. Great well maintained hiking trails near a saltwatwr body with besches.
Beautiful park with amazing trails. Very well kept and clean. Maintained carefully by the ocean county parks system! Dog friendly as well. Tons of parking. Plenty of beach access!
Very lovely park with great views. Great for kids and dogs and couples.Beware of ticks however.
Beautiful walking trails on the bay. Dog friendly a very picturesque. I go frequently
Gorgeous park. I love the trail a lot. Especially in the fall when the leaves are changing colors and coming down. The park workers keep it well-maintained and super clean. Well worth the visit. I go here very often. Bring your friends, your family, your pets, etc.You will not be disappointed.
Great place
Its a nice park to walk. Several poke stops and gyms. They have a butterfly garden. Nesting birds. Marsh. Crabs and millows. A nice playground. Seating randomly placed on the walk ways. They even have a wooden walkway that should work for wheelchairs that offers a beautiful view of the Marsh and nesting birds. The rangers working there are knowledgeable. The volunteers are awesome. Never a bad visit whether the visit center is open or not.
Very nice anf easy trails
We Love going to Cattus Island it is very relaxing and we enjoy the quietness. Sometimes people go with their waverunners and go fast around the boats, they do not understand that their are kids in the water swimming and are on the tubes. Please be careful and enjoy the water with others.
Great place to have a picnic or take the kids!
Awesome park on the bay. Interesting place with picnicking. Reminded me of old school all day picnics and just family fun
Great place to run trails!
In the summer months, this park is absolutely INFESTED with green heads and ticks. I have never seen so many ticks in my life after leaving and doing a tick check.Something has to be done about them, because theyre beyond out of control!I will only ever set foot in this park again during the winter.Way too much of a risk for a lifelong tickborne illness, and i will not take the chance. My wife recently contracted Lymes disease last summer. While I cannot say it was because of the ticks in this park, I can say she became symptomatic after pulling off 5 embedded ticks, after a short walk from the parking lot to the nature center and back to the car. We were in and out in 10 minutes, and she was covered.
Love this place. Ive been there about a dozen times in the last month. I hike with my daughter. So far only picked up one tick on my dog.
Beautiful park with bathroom/porta potty and with picnic tables .. gorgeous views! Lots of wildlife!! Definitely would recommend for bird watchers! The osprey are amazing and easy to see.Only con is the amount of ticks!!! Come prepared with appropriate clothing and sprays!
One of my favorite places on cooler days and rainy weather.
A wonderful family experience can be had here! More than eight nesting Osprey pairs are all within an easy hike from a lovely visitor center. Also great for picnics.
Everything about Cattus is clean and serene. But careful of ticks between April and November because of ther wildlife.
My favorite place to walk, relax & spend time with friends and family! The views are beautiful and the trails are great/easy to follow.
Well maintained, clearly labeled trails. Great for runs,,
Lovely park with some simple trails. Fun for a family outing. We visited on a warm December day and it was windy and muddy after a recent rain, so definitely wear boots if youre taking the trails when its wet! Plenty of parking and the trails were clearly marked for most of the way.
I love this place so much! Im so happy its right down the block where I live. I can come here for a nice long walk with my dog and get lost in nature. There is a variety of trails, my favorite would be the yellow. The park is HUGE, so if you feel like you finished a trail in a mile and your done. Think again, because there are TONS of different trails. The park is always well kept too.
A very pristine view of what this area looked like before migration of humans from North Jersey & NYC.
Great place for a family hike
Nice place to walk the dog. Peaceful and beautiful
One of the best parks in all of Ocean County. Lots of different trails to hike. None are very strenous. Dog friendly. Has a cool little nature center also. This place is really nice for photos during the magic hour
Great place for biking
A great place to walk, alone, or with a friend. So many things to see. An awesome place to spend a day !!!!
Fun for all ages. Theres a site book for bird watchers/animal watchers, bald eagles have been seen in pairs of 2, as have many others. This is inside the information desk, written by viewers. Kids can get involved with so much that us parents and grandparents love with the butterfly garden, nature walk, boardwalk, and playground, ++++ so much more. Bathrooms are ok (cleanliness), and are at different spots throughout the walk. Theres a few spots to rest and watch. Plenty of maps and animal friendly.
Theres a lot of resources for people to learn about the ecosystem or also if they just want to relax and enjoy nature
Great scenic views of the bay and wonderful staff.
A great place for hiking and exploring! Theres a playground for kids (5 & up). A learning center that explains the indigenous wildlife. Plenty of parking. Sits alongside Barnegat Bay. Gets packed during the summer and evenings.
Mosquito and fly-filled hell!! Never again, at least not in the warm season.Might be an interesting walk (although kind of boring and not very challenging) in the fall or winter.
