Fun spot, with *very* knowledgeable and friendly staff. A good mix of living animals in tanks and mounted displays. Theres a short, narrated exhibition of live animals where you get to pet a millipede, a cockroach, a tarantula and a scorpion. Recommended for the bug-obsessed or even the mildly bug-interested. Great place to spend a couple of hours and learn a thing or three.
As others have said, its a small place. But if you (or better yet, your kids) like BUGS, this place is great! My kids loved the ant colony and beehive. Being in this area, there are several place nearby to eat before or after visiting. Which, with kids, is a very good thing. The staff are friendly and the admission price isnt too steep. We visit when we come to NJ to visit friends in the Toms River area, so we stop by annually.
The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The assortment of insects was amazing, and my daughter is still talking about this place. It was so worth the 2 hour drive to see her dive into learning about everything on display. Make sure you stay for their hourly hands on tour where you get to see and touch an assortment of insects up close and personal.
This is such a wonderful place with a great staff! My son and I love going in the morning and getting to do a meet and greet with the bugs! There are lots of activities and plenty to see! Great price too! Plenty of parking!
Interesting displays of insects. Great for children.
Very knowledgeable staff! Pam was great, she took the time to answer lots of questions.
My family went to attend a birthday party. The staff was amazing at handle the group of children and adults. We were led on a tour of the whole bugseum and the children even got to pet some of the bugs. The guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job of making sure to keep the childrens attention and talk about all of the featured displays. They also have a small gift shop with local artwork and butterfly displays. With the ticket price only being $10, I will definitely be bringing my family here again.
Awesome Awesome and Awesome...I never really payed attention to the place I thought it was just a exterminator company, until the library gave us free passes to the museum. We went as a field trip my son and I loved it !!! Now understand Im terrified well more disgusted from bugs but surprisingly I found the museum very intriguing. The staff was very polite, friendly, informative and the most welcoming to my fear of bug phobia. I even pet a centipede and a tarantula. The tarantula was very soft I actually like it we will definitely be going again in the near future... God Willing
Great place to go on a rainy day while at the shore. Kept my 6 year old and 4 year old interested and happy, while looking at and learning some cool things. They didnt want to go in at first because none of us are big on bugs, but once they got inside, they were super excited to see more. Doesnt take long to get through either, probably about an hour and a half of time inside for only $10 per person. The people who worked there were really nice and knowledgeable about the insects. A really good time.
Wonderful place to go, lots of cool bugs, lots you can hold. Very clean and friendly place, go more than once
We love it here normally but Halloween event was really fun! My child wants to have her bday here next year!
When we walked in my daughter hated bugs, she found it absolutely fascinating and by the time we left she was asking if we could go back because she liked bugs now. Kinda funny since we went for my birthday.
Very cool all ages place. More than meets the eye and really a cool source of education
When we first walked in we were greeted by the lovely ArachNickone of the beautiful staff members there. We were directed immediately with where to start for the best experience. You do it at your own pace. It was a super educational experience and once you feel underwhelmed or think its over you turn a corner and it keeps going. We went in the winter on a weekday and it was fantastic. I am made aware while there that there are bees in the summer and adult events that include a mimosa or two! We were ushered to an observation area to meet 4 amazing bugs, were able to touch and hold certain ones, and even got really neat trading cards. My son and I flattened a penny as a souvenir and visited the surprisingly cute gift shop that was beyond fairly priced. While I do really wish there were more living bugs, it was the coolest experience I didnt expect and very personal. Nick made it a point to capture my son, use his name, use his animals names from home he told him about. My son imprinted on him and seeked him out. Nick was never annoyed and rather engaged my son so well it felt like wed been regulars there, it was our first time. The place is so so clean and my son loved crawling through the mud tunnels. I want to thank Incectropolis as a whole but really give Kudos to Nick. He made learning fun, and not scary. Even this Mommy wimp held a giant millipede!!!
Wonderful place! Kids love it!
Fun and educational. Plan to spend several hours.
Great place for kids. Lots to learn.
Knowledgeable staff. A great place for a day trip or a birthday party
Nice place. Kids will love it. I went on a rainy day with 2 other adults and we were done looking around in 26 minutes. They do have shows where you can hold certain insects but we didnt do that. I am glad I visited though.
Cool place for kids to learn about bugs/insects but i believe their parent company is exterminators so if look for other places to learn these lessons. One time visit.
We had a great time on MLK Day, with my daughter and grandchildren.
It’s a great concept and it’s very apparent that they work painstakingly to keep their specimen healthy. Their tarantula display alone is the most comprehensive I’ve seen. The price is right. Fidgety kids, however, will not be occupied for long since the museum area is relatively small. I would recommend going once and then letting the kids decide if it’s worth a second visit in the future. Plan for a couple of hours (max) if you watch the presentation/petting part and let the kids play the games on the iPads.
We loved the hands-on experience we had here.... staff was very patient with our young (2-4yr old) children and explained how to pet the insects properly. We were shown feeding times of the iguanas. The interactive exhibits were a huge hit with the kids, while us adults loved the butterfly charts and the bees nests. It was much bigger than I expected as well
Great little insect museam! Self guided tour. They have so many bugs preserved and alive to see and learn about. They have an amazing room of tarantulas. Bathrooms and gift shops available. Perfect for the insect lover or anyone who is curious and just wants to learn more. I definitely recommend at least checking it out.
Fun and informative place..touch a millipede, a tarantula,a scorpion and a hissing cockroach then play bug jeopardy...Fun place!
Great educational fun
They are great. You can see and interact with all sorts of insects. They have a knowledgeable staff who are willing to answer questions. When we drove up to pick up some gifts the door was accidentally locked but they came around and helped us out. Which was awesome. I was able to get really butterfly necklaces. If you have never been you should totally check it out.
The displays are phenomenal, the entire place is spotless, and the owners are the nicest people ever! We visit every year and never get tired of it! Highly recommended for children of all ages!
I took my grandchildren. We had a blast. They had a demonstration that day on bees. They are very knowledgeable and patient to answer questions. Bring your own food.
Very cool place. Definitely more suited to slightly older kids. Our 8 YO loved it, our 6 YO liked it, but couldnt read all the signage and info, so we read it to him. Staff was friendly and museum was reasonably priced for what it was. Fun activity for a rainy day! Very cool collection of spiders and scorpions!
I had a great experience that was incomparable to none. The exhibits were well done and the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great family outing where kids and adults get an opportunity to learn about the diverse world of insects. It was an amazing site watching how the kids reacted to the displays and shows. For a insect fanatic like myself, 2 hours was not enough to thoroughly visit all the displays.
Cute little warehouse of preserved insects, some live specimens, and some other animals. Learn about bugs. Get to pet Pepper the tarantula.
Good way to kill an hour or so with the kids.
Great family place to learn about all the insects.
Always a fun walk around. Only thing that could make it better I think is if they had free days during the summer.
We just left here 7/27/19 and I couldnt wait to get into the car to write this review. Today we celebrated my grandsons 4th birthday here at Insectropolis. What an great experience!! Let me start by saying what an amazingly friendly and experienced staff they have. Nick was assigned to my grandson Jamess party. From the start he was so knowledgeable, patient and interacting with each and every 4 -5 year old there. Even with my grandson who is full of questions, Nick answered everyone of them and in terms James understood. Nicks demeanor made this party move along efficiently, quickly (but didnt feel rushed) and smoothly. In my opinion how all children partys should be. We didnt lift a finger. Thank you Nick!!! As Im sure all the staff is wonderful, I can only recommend to you if your are thinking of having a party here ask for NICK! Secondly, what a wonderful exhibit they have. Very informative and there is lots to learn for all ages. If you are in the area stop by.
Do much fun! Make sure to do the seminar so you can touch the bugs
Nice collection of insects. Great place for kids to spend a couple of hours.
What a great place for children and adults. So much to see and learn. The living bee hive in the summer is awesome.
The location was very clean, organized, and well lit. The diversity of the insects was just right. We loved our first visit ( two toddler boys ) and recommend it to other families.
This was the best surprise on our trip to the shore. We spent a rainy afternoon here. Excellent displays and an extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. The gift shop has really unique items that were a hit with everyone. The interactive show is worth the trip itself. Dont worry, if you dont want to touch the bugs you dont have to :) We will definitely come here again.
Great place if you love bugs! Their live tarantula collection is impressive and my kids loved the bug talk and getting to pet the bugs used in the talk!
Insectropolis is a nice place. But make up your own mind. Watch my YouTube video. Search: John Fornoro Insectropolis
I took my 4 year old here! Cute place but really small!
Cool place for an insect enthusiast. Tons of preserve specimens and a great collection of live tarantulas. However, I would definitely recommend checking their presentation times. We went a bit too early and the presentation wouldnt have been for another 45 minutes after we were all done. There just isnt enough there to kill that much time, so we missed out on handling the cockroaches and millipedes and so on.
If u love bugs this is the place
Kids LOVED Insectropolis! So much to see and learn.
Small and quaint, right on Hwy 9,Right behind an extermination place with the big bug in the front. It only takes about two hours to see the whole place, kids find it very interesting and it does not cost too much money. They will let you hold Rosie the spider which is a tarantula and most people never will forget that.
A very pleasant surprise. Went expecting a few fish tanks with bugs and found a warehouse full of museum quality exhibits. Excellent place to bring little boys to experience all the buggy glory. They also do a little show and touch show regularly.
Very interesting for children and adults.
Our toddler loves bugs and love it there
Very interesting and fun for kids and adults alike
My sons kindergarten class had a wonderful time here. Lots of preserved specimens from around the world, plus a few live pets the children could touch under supervision. Great staff, too!
Amazing arrays of insects both living and dead. Staff great!
I was expecting a bunch of cases with some bugs in them, but was amazed at how well done the entire building was set up. Theres different rooms, each with their own theme ranging from the six legged bandits to the bugseum. The rooms were informative, well decorated, clean, and even had stuff for the youngest of visitors to play with. Would definitely recommend, and plan to visit again.
Very informative and polite staff.in short, really cool
Great place to learn about our 6 legged and 8 legged friends.
Loved this place.calm and quiet.not crowded.my kid really enjoyed a lot and he loves bugs and insects very much. He was so excited when he touched the live creatures like Tarantula, hissing cockroach, and scorpion.he want to visit again.and the giant praying mantis statue in the entrance was amazing.they have gift shop . good staffs.
Amazing place for the family great time
Did a guided tour with the Cub scouts and it was pretty cool inside. Not sure if the kids would have enjoyed it as much just walking around but with a group its great. The young lady that gave the tour Kelly the kids entertained and kept the tour going at a great pace. Would highly recommend for a birthday party or such event.
My son had a blast! So did I haha. Not to mention we got to touch some creepy crawlies!!
A little small but great for kids should charge less per person I personally think, but kids really enjoyed it
Experience was fun and exciting. Staff was friendly and informative. Among the dozens of live insects exhibits from around the world, the most impressive is a live indoor bee hive colony with clear tubes running outside for bees to get in and out. Great for family and class trips, children and adults will love it.
Bring a sketch book and take your time. What a place full of rich inspiration, beautiful patterns, and interesting shapes to render!
Fascinating. Fascinating...did I mention fascinating?!? What a wonderful surprise to visit. I read previous reviews saying this place was small, not sure how big they expected, but this place was very big with hundreds, if not thousands, of insect exhibits. The collection was massive. The material was laid out for easy understanding. The displays that showcased specific traits like mouthparts were all well done, and extreme attention to detail was taken for the displays. I learned so much from our visit. My teenage daughter was a bit squeamish, but my three sons were equally as impressed as I was. Very clean bathrooms. The gift shop had many great educational books and toys. A real hidden treasure in South Jersey. We missed the live presentation, maybe next time well be around to stay for it. Highly recommended!!
Fun place to learn all about bugs!! Had interactive touch screen games. Best part was it was a museum that wasnt too big or small so the kids womt get bored
Great place to learn about bugs. Once in a lifetime opportunity to touch a scorpion and Tarantula
Very affordable day trip! The museum is well-kept with bright and attractive art and detailed displays. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. My son loved crawling through the mud tunnel and we all enjoyed the live bug demonstration where you can touch a tarantula, scorpion and millipede.
4yr old bug enthusiast loved it!!
Our guide was wonderful
Great for kids, so many different bugs on display and the kids loved when they brought out the live ones.
Looks like they stopped caring about the place
Took my grand daughter was pleasantly surprised ! So many different types of bugs, just incredible. Staff was great as well!
Great place to bring the kids!Inexpensive day of learning with the family. We really like this place.
What a cool place. Huge collection. Educational and entertaining.
We took our 2 year old daughter and its a fun place. I guess its for a little bit of an older kid but its local and pretty cool. I know I enjoyed it and I was delighted to see adorable juvenile iguanas there, too. We were just in time for the presentation with the tarantula/millipede, etc. Um, I have to say, Jess is a stud; he knows his stuff. Id go back just to watch him talk about his scorpion :)
Very cool place. Such a unique experience and kids have so much fun while simultaneously learning science! Its also a great place to have kids parties and events.
Nice place to spend a few hours. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Nice selection of displays for the young ones. Cheap $8 admission. Spend anywhere from 1-2 hours there. They have live bug presentations as well every hour on the hour.
Good service and good food
Fun for the kids. The presentation was fun and informative
Great clean place with a lot to see. Dislpays are set up in a very organized and efficient manner for browsing. Many programs and workshops for kids during the year and sometimes for 18+ also. Friendly staff too!
This was a great find and a great experience. This kids museum is built in a kind of loop, so its very easy to keep track of where youve already been and to circle back to the things your kids want to see again. Its a bit on the small side, so plan to spend two hours maximum there. Still, each room is packed with interactive information about all types of insects, as well as plenty of displayed and live insects to stare at. Theres even an insect show where you can touch and learn about the scorpion, millipede and hissing cockroach! The staff are very friendly and always available to answer questions.Great place to spend an afternoon!
Quite well done---exhibits are clever in how they present different insects and facts about them. We enjoyed it.
My kids love this place. Im not a fan of bugs, but as long as my kids enjoyed it, lol. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and couldnt wait to share their information with us. The presentations are great.
I personally am not a fan of crawling things but my grandchildren loved every minuite of it. And yes I even touched a tralantula!!!!!
Very affordable for a unique place to visit. Family friendly, great for every interest and age level. Clean, beautiful, and educational. Highly recommend
Cool place for something to do. My sons loved touching the Tarantula and Hissing Cockroaches. Its not a big place but its something to do for an hour or so learning and having fun.
Great exhibit! Lots to see and do!
We probably spent an hour and a half there. It was fun and interesting, but not worth the cost of admission.
Cool place for a school field trip or a family pit stop. Mario was super knowledgeable. Petting the tarantula was cool!
Definitely worth going to plenty of different insects to check out they also have insect shows wich you can touch the insects very educational a great place to bring the kids
This was a very exciting trip for my family. My kids range from 17 years to 2 and they all loves it!
Lots of bugs to look at, both alive and otherwise. Our kids loved it.
