I love to watch the sunset from the A Mountain, the view of Tempe city from here its amazing. Its a moderate trail, there are stairs if you want to do harder exercise, the ramp to mid mountain is steep but after that its easy. If you like to watch airplanes near you this is the perfect spot.

A great place to go a short exercise.Going up to the top is about 10 min. On the top, you can see ASU campus clearly in the south. In the north, there is a beautiful mountain. The PHX airport is in the east. Many planes fly by every few minutes.

Short step climb. Trail is not well kept at all. Avoid evening as there are lots of people who walk up at this time it does offer some nice views but for such a popular place to climb one would like to see improved trails.

Relatively steep and challenging for the less than in shape or small children, but overall a quick and scenic hike with ASU on one side and the expanse of Phoenix and its suburbs on the other. Pavement leads to rugged steps and Rocky terrain so proper footwear is a must. Well worth the effort.

Trash isnt strewn everywhere. A major bonus is that planes landing on Sky Harbors left runway (including widebodies in the PM) fly directly over the top. It is better for big kids (at least 6 or 7), though, because parts of the trail can get narrow and steep with high railing that is easy for tall adults to bend under.

This mountain was exceptionally fun and simple to climb because of the trail. There is a really big incline so if you cant walk up steep areas big dont suggest it. The amount of Tim to get to the top is about 15 minutes and the view of the city below is worth it.

If you want to enjoy sunset near asu tempe campus this is the place you should go for. You can take any orbit and get down at tempe transport center and from there there will a small hike for around 15min to reach the top of the mountain. Its a easy hike and from top whole tempe can be viewed. I didnt see any public restroom and there are paid street parking available. I dont recommend to be there afer sunset as people take weed on that time so if you dont like weed its not the place for you after sunset and its also pretty dark. If you like sunset and want to enjoy the sky color its the place you should try at least once

As commonly known as A mountain. Parking is available in a bog lot. Moderate stiff climb. The end part of the climb has got wooden and concrete steps. The view of Tempe from top is amazing. Planes just fly over your head and you can see the airport. Sunset is one of the best time to be there. Dog friensly hike.

Great views of the city. However, the asphalt part of the hike was extremely steep. We should have gone on the dirt pat around the butte. Also, the climb up the stairs was a little nerve racking. The dirt around the wooden steps had eroded making the steps extremely tall and hard to navigate.

If you are in downtown Tempe near Mill Avenue and the Salt River then this is a great little spot to do a very short hike that goes straight uphill and then straight back down. Its kind a like going to the gym and using the stair mill only outside so not quite as boring. You get great views of pretty much the entire Phoenix area until the nothing of the desert begins from up top of the mountain. The only real bummer is whenever youre in Tempe parking is a pain in the butt. You have to find a meter that doesnt have a ticket saying that you cant park there but your credit card in and remember to get back because people ticket and tell you in no time at all.

You can park in the Mission Palms North Lot for easiest access to this place. Theyll charge you about $2 an hour.Best times to come to this place if you want to avoid the crowd is around sunrise OR you can go after sunset. Come any other time, and youll run into a few people climbing up and down.Although the trails arent too fancy, it will get your heart pumping. My favorite workout here is that concrete trail that runs from the base of the mountain facing Rio Salado and then goes up and then down to a sandy/gravely area. Just do 3 of those and you got a cardio challenge! The views are amazing too. You can see all of downtown Tempe, and whats really cool too is even when youre halfway up, you can see the Sky Harbor Airport runway.

Nice little climb in the middle of the city brings up the heart rate and gives excellent views of the valley. Aside from Camelback Mtn and Piestewa Peak, Hayden Butte offers the best views of the sprawling metropolis, especially during sunrise and sunset. Good footwear is a good idea, and bring a little bit of water, but you shouldn’t expect to carve out much time for this one. Quick and easy, albeit somewhat crowded and often dirty after college kids trash it on the weekends.

An easy and short hike to a great view of Tempe and Phoenix. Also a full view of the ASU Tempe campus for students like me.Theres a couple viewpoints along the way for inexperienced hikers but most should be able to do the hike with little rest. It is a bit steep at the beginning and there are a few steep stairs along the way but its worth the 15-30 minute climb. You can also climb down the other side and get a great view of the gold A!Just make sure to bring a bottle of water per person and come either in the morning or around sunset, I recommend the latter, the city with the sunset orange background is beautiful!

Hayden, one day I hope that you read this. One day is all it took for you to show me something I never knew, that I deserved to be happy with myself and loved by someone. You changed me forever; I am a better person, and because of you I know what its like to meet your soulmate. I begged God to let me find you like you found me, I would make you feel, as good about yourself, as you made me realize my own strengths. My door is always open to you; my home is away there for you if ever you may need me. Im here for you. Towers-#824

Beautiful trail, especially at sun set. Id recommend bringing at least a liter of water if youre going in the summer. It is quite steep and there are some tight spots (easy to maneuver if someone is coming in the opposite direction, though). Wear shoes with good grip and a camera to capture the beauty! Not a full five stars due to the awful amounts of litter at the top. Its a shame people cant respect it!
