The SW corner of Rural Road and Southern Avenue in Tempe has become a real cultural center in the East Valley. Not only is it the location of Tempe Public Library, Vihel Center for the Arts, and Pyle Adult Center, but it is also the home for Tempes new, modern Historical Museum. The Museum offers a walk through Tempes historic, ethnic past set in a modern, colorful building. Exhibits for young and old alike. I especially enjoyed the Hohokam artifacts from Tempes prehistoric days and my wife appreciated the exhibits presenting Arizona State University history. There is an active program for school children and family-friendly performances. Free admission, free parking, and free entertainment.

I like this cozy museum. Its right next to the Tempe Public Library off of Southern Ave and Rural, and theres no charge to get in. The whole museum takes a little over an hour and half hours to walk through (if youre like me and read through all the signs). The people at the front desk are also super helpful and friendly too.I do miss that slanted wooden house thingy they had about 2 (?) years ago. It looks like they took that exhibit away and it was super fun when it was there. I hope the bring it back.

Outstanding little museum focusing on the history of Tempe. Free! They also have an exceptional committee that arranges lunchtime lectures and presentations, monthly music groups, and other educational experiences for youth and adults. Did I mention its all free? The building is part of a city complex with a library, art studio, senior center -- plenty of free parking, well lit at night, on bus routes, electric vehicle charge stations, and convenient to the 60 freeway. They now have a raised solar panel array that shades one of the parking lots! Tempe did a great job on this.

Pretty cool little place ... not that big, but it has plenty of history about the community, including local music, and it has a number of interactive exhibits, plus enough for the kids to do that they wont get bored if you want to spend a little extra time - not somewhere youre likely to visit more than a couple times (except maybe for events), but definitely worth checking out

I love this museum BUT if you do not have children nor particularly like children this may not be the place for you. There is a wonderful childs play area with a stage and truck with play food. Children love it and WILL get loud and excited. There are large areas outside of the kids area where adults can read the exhibits etc, but please be aware that the childs space invites imaginatve, excited play.
