The spot is rather inconspicuous . there are no signs and u wouldnt know where it was unless informed. but the dive was good. there is a mucky layer at about 70 feet that is about 15 feet. visibility is zero until u pass thru. not for amateurs

Hospital hole is a submerged sink hole, the bottom depth is about 140 ft with a hydrogen sulfide layer at about 70ft, after that this would be considered a cave dive( there is nothing in this sink worth your life if youre not trained) because this layer blocks out sunlight, the upper visibility varies depending on the tides and time of day. The day I went I was freediving to see if it was worth carrying tanks. Honestly there are much better places to dive, especially since access is limited to a boat. But its not a bad spot to stop and snorkel if your paddling the river.

Got some great underwater video of manatees here and up river. Weeki Watchi River is awesome if the tide is right. Timing is everything. It can go from super-blue to muddy brown in hours. Time your trip right after high tide - dont wait much longer.

Weeki Wachee river is my absolute favorite place in the state of FL. If you have not been it is so worth the trip. Its gorgeous. Ive been at least 50 times and never seen a gator - which I am petrified of. The staff at the canoe rental place said theyve never heard of one in the clear part of the river (where u canoe) in 25 yrs, most likely because there is no where for them to hide. Its crystal clear and has white beach like sand. You will see lots of fish and maybe even a few manatees!

This uses to be a place where manatees would congregate on the Weeki Wachee river. It is a deep hole that appears to be a spring. I have been there many times and seen many a manatee hanging out there. I have also seen an abundance of salt water fish like amber jacks and mangrove snapper congregate near the hole . This has changed recently due to higher traffic and the addition of a rope swing which have driven away the manatees. Some manatees can still be spotted on the river but they tend to avoid their old hangout.

I did not realize I passed by Hospital Hole. Weeki Wachee is beautiful. It was EXTREMELY busy when I came at 10:30am on a Saturday the weekend after Memorial Day. Parking lot at Rogers Park was already full, and there were still more cars pulling into the parking lot than a Walmart in Arkansas on Black Friday.I went to Jenkins Creek Boat Ramp and was able to paddle up a canal to get to Weeki Wachee. Quite a pleasant, quiet route and saw manatees there. Did have to climb over a drainage structure on the way upstream, but paddled through the drain pipe downstream.

Not really a park, but Hospital Hole is a natural fresh water sink about 100 deep on the Weeki Wachee run and a favorite haunt of manatees in winter. Divers will find slight sulfuric layer about 50 down before hitting a slightly saline layer near bottom. Good visibility but bring dive lamp and no stirring up the silt. Happy bubbles...

Nice park and river area we love to visit...but the dive was the worst Ive experienced. Past the sulfur layer visibility went to a few feet...pitch black and you cant see the surface. Maybe we caught it on a bad day or previous divers messed up visibility but this was the scariest dives to date.
